As a Muslim, your faith can help you cope with life’s pressures. But being a young Muslim in the UK isn’t always easy. You might face challenges related to your religion or cultural identity, which can impact your mental health. But you don’t have to face this alone.
We know that mental health advice that doesn’t take into account your faith, or cultural background, might not be as helpful as you need. And if you’re struggling, it can feel especially difficult to talk about what you’re going through if you’re worried you’ll be misunderstood.
We’re not experts in Islam. And we can’t change society and mental health services to be more religiously and culturally aware overnight, even though we’d like to. But we believe you deserve the right support for you. That’s why we’ve partnered with Muslim Youth Helpline, and worked with lots of young Muslims from across the UK to create this film, information and advice that’s designed with young British Muslims in mind.
Hat’s of too YoungMinds, more like this, giving a voice and empowering our young people
Thank you 💛
Mental health is SO important and I hope the majority of young muslims in the UK watching this know that their feelings are valid. Ignore what others say, its all about opinions and perspective. It is absolutely okay to struggle with your mental health and 100% okay to seek help. We got this 💜
Thank you - we couldn't agree more 💛
Interesting concept but with all due respect, all minority faiths struggle in their own way, and from my standpoint I wouldn't say Muslims are a minority or oppressed, I'd say quite the opposite.
Thank you for your comment. Insights and research from our partner, Muslim Youth Helpline, shows that young Muslims can find it hard to reach out for support and so as a first step we have created faith-friendly mental health support for these young people. In the future, we hope to replicate campaigns like this to support more young people and especially those who often feel underrepresented in the mental health conversation.
Every single day people make us feel like terrorists or criminals in this country
We are so sorry that you feel that way. It is unacceptable and we appreciate how difficult it must be for you. If you need support, please visit our website (link in the description).
Because you are !
