Doug Polk Said NEVER DO THIS (But He Just Did It)

  • Is Doug Polk a raging hypocrite? This video is arguably proof that he is. He once said "don't fold sets" but that's exactly what he considers doing versus a $10,300 all-in. He flops bottom set, but the turn gives his opponent "E" a higher set. E plays his turned monster fast and puts Doug in an agonizing spot on the river. Will Doug pay it off? Nick Petrangelo analyzes the hand.

He's a hypocrite? That's the worst part of it. Almost like that guy, Bill Cosby?

So what your saying is, never fold pocket 4s in this spot when I'm playing 2c/5c six max online. Gotcha.

Whenever you raise a guy postflop, and he takes back the betting lead by raising you, he probably doesn't have a lot of bluffs.

Nobody has bluffs ever, and if they do, it’s very obvious who they are.

Yeah no one is like oh yeah this is the 4% of the time I'm going to float flop raises and then turn a gutter and blast it hoping to move my opponent off his set by repping a straight, and it actually is 4% of the time instead of 100% of the time because they are an obvious aggro donk.

Appreciate the GTO response, but in live poker aren't most players capable of overplaying all the 2 pair combos here, especially in a straddled pot? If that's the case, do bluffs matter as much? I was under the impression that generally if you can beat any value hands villain might be betting, you should call.

while possible, it is quite unlikely a regular would overplay two pair to that extend at this stack depth, and E is a regular.

I also wonder how many aces Dough might have. What if he bets 78s for value as well? Will 4s become call?

Pretty standard fold vs an unknown but you can't do this vs good regs even if they aren't perfectly balanced coz then they can just win every pot when you don't have the nuts. I always cringe when I see people showing big folds and then just get completely run over.

I wish someone would fold sets vs me 😰

The word "pure" is used way too many times here... and flopping a pair is being called a set blocker now? Other than that, great breakdown

it's a pair and also blocks sets, pretty simple idea and very important multiway (when there are 3+ guys who can be lying in wait with a set or two pair)

Doug promised years ago he will never ever play poker again. Look him now. Liar. He did not succeed in crypto and other fields and he went back to poker. Lost my respect.

he's playing to promote the Lodge (the card room he owns) but I'm sure he'd be real broken up if he heard you lost respect for him.

@Knot Sweaty we are ridiculous? You should see how sure he was that he will never every play poker anymore. But he lied.
