Thank you Matt for bringing another DCS tutorial on the f16. I have now close to 150 hours on this module and I am loving it plus I learnt a lot from your videos.
A very subtle but important point made at 3:50 where you can see *ALL* the steer points move when you update one. So you can’t just change the position of one to, say use it for CAS, and then fly off to your other steer points and expect them to be in the same place.
Call me stupid but I don't get why we have to do this. Shouldn't the GPS keep the INS automatically aligned? Or is this just in case the mission timeframe / nation does not allow the use of GPS? Or do you have to do this when you pulled max G and then want to super precisely CCRP in the next second?
Over time, the alignment quality degrades so it has to be corrected. It only happens on long flights, so if you fly 50-150 miles I believe you should be fine.
@@agostonbazmajer1100 Reddit moment. That's how inertial navigation systems work. But what do I know, I only have over 3100 hours of military flight time.
Hey Wags, this is totally unrelated to the video, but why are we not able to carry more than one BDU-50 or training GBU-12? I'm a weapons loader, and that configuration is loaded all the time. Thanks.
So Wags you are talking about this a bit backwards. You are talking about it "as if the steerpoint position has drifted off". The steerpoint isn't what is drifting but the current position of where the INS thinks it is at. Your HUD steerpoint diamond display is shown based off of where the aircraft thinks it is at and where the steerpoint is in lat/long/alt. So seeing the diamond not where you know the target or steerpoint is at isn't the steerpoint drifting but current position drifting.
Thanks @matt for the Upload ! are we going to be able to update based on OA1/OA2 offsets also ? Worked with a legacy viper guy this week and he had indicated they used wp offets with the radar to update as well off of known objects with high reflectivity. Thanks
How much drift would be expected over, say, six hours? A mile seems a little large already given the GPS correction. If the jet showed a delta of 7 nautical miles I'd suspect that the crew chief has a long night ahead.
While a FIX only updates the current location your INS thinks you're at and does this instantaneously, an in flight alignment will realign your entire INS. In flight alignments also have quite a low accuracy and they usually require you to fly in a fairly straight line for several minutes.
No, but if you make a mission that takes place before 1994 in the ME there will be no GPS available meaning that the INS will drift much more than it would with regular GPS updates.
I initially thought it was a cut, but the head movement is flawless. I think what we're seeing is the time of day lighting changing in active pause, accidentally on the beat of the switches being pressed. On the second occasion, the dobber isn't yet pressed when the lighting changed
Soo if I'm watching this correctly, I can move a steerpoint that's near a target, to on top of a target to make it easier for the Tpod to find the target?
No. You're better off using mark points for that. This is simply for updating and re-aligning the INS in case it drifts too much. In fact if you tried to use this method to try and place a steerpoint directly on (a) target, all your systems would be too inaccurate to get any precise bomb drops off and whatnot.
All new features are nice but talking about balance, when will there be a DTC function in servers and ME to take some workload off? Theres a lot of data thats clunky to input during missions that normally come from the cartridge which will save you a lot of tedious work so you can enjoy stuff like this more.
@@wraith444 thanks yes i already use the DTC mod but who knows for how long they will support it. Hence my efforts to get this implemented into the sim 😁
@@jdliefting8926 Understandable. @@wraith444 definitely! AI, dynamic campaign options, ME functionality etc. stuff like that would improve the experience a lot as well. I agree that a DTC is not a priority on that list.

Matt ! there is a problem using GBU-10/12!! bombs in CCRP mode refuse to be released! If changes have been made, then make a new guide, if this is a BUG, report that this is a bug and you know about this problem! I wouldn’t write those here and would write on the forum or in support, but I just ran into an inadequate reaction from the worker’s ED, they started waving a banhammer instead of giving an answer! I find this behavior unacceptable!!
No problem here. Feel free to post a polite and construction message with a track on the forum and we can try to help you understand where you are going wrong. Thanks.

There might be a blended ins/gps solution, but the gps won't update the ins on its own. That's the pilot's job.

No, but if you make a mission that takes place before 1994 in the ME there will be no GPS available meaning that the INS will drift much more than it would with regular GPS updates.
Does it change steerpoint cordinates or does it change entire navigation system to match steerpoint?

I think GPS is correcting INS all the time so not required with aviable GPS
Will there be an update to the Hornet as well or isn't it required because it uses IFA?
It’d be handy to fix the accuracy of a single steer points except it moves all your other steer points
This isn't recalibrating the steerpoint. It's to edit the aeroplane's position in the hope of reducing error.

You can change/edit the steerpoint elevation in the steerpoint page.
