I know this is an old video but you made that plane look sooo easy to fly! Way up high on my consideration list. This is also surely the perfect inoffensive park flyer.
I had one of these after they released them. It's been glued and taped so much that it lasts 3 minutes tops and the balance is off due to the added weight. I like how extremely locked in it feels with knife edges and flat turns with just rudder. Hover mode is cool too. I'm getting ready to drive a hr one way to a hs and get another since Horizon is back ordered!
nice review , nice camera work too , i got both the extra and the yak , both very more or less the same like you say 20 flights on my yak now and still love it , you got a great little flying spot there , perfect and entertainment for the dog too lol
thanks Grant - this park is just by my house and is good for flying umx stuff and giving the dog a run. :) He hates the flying stuff though so I try not to bug him too much! Thanks for checking it out.
When I maidened it I was on position 1 by mistake. It flew exactly as I had expected. Nice and smooth. When I realized my error on the next flight, I started in position 0. It acted like it was in a heading hold mode. When I would do a flat turn to the right it was pretty smooth. To the left it didn't want to turn, but would suddenly turn left with much more stick deflection than should be necessary for a large flat turn. That was also when I noticed the oscillations. When I switched back to position 1 the oscillations stopped and the rudder behaved normally. I double checked, and channel 5 is not reversed in my tx. If I reverse channel 5 I assume it would only reverse the switch positions and would match the manual. I just don't understand why it would be backwards from the manual. That was why I was hoping you could look at your monitor screen for channel 5 and confirm where it should be for position 0 on your tx. Since you have a 3 position switch you should be at 0= general flight, 1= standard as3x, 2= hover assist. I have mine programmed for the alternate flight mode so 0 should = standard as3x, and position 1 should give me what position 2 is in the manual which is hover assist. In my monitor ch 5 0= indicator full left and 1= full right. Curious as to where yours is at for all 3 positions. Sorry for the long post - haven't got many replies on the Yak or as3xtra threads!
Very nice brother :) Great review as well offcourse! I've had a Extra version of this a few years back.. a ton of fun indeed! :) I'd probably prefer not to have a stabeliser in it.. but well yeah.. does make it really easy to fly :)
thanks Dutch! yes the original red and white extra was very cool when it came out. I just fly this one in as3x mode - can't beat it for quick in the park fun.
Great review! Can't wait to get one (hopefully I do) and learn some 3D! Simulators on the iPad just don't cut it haha, I need real gimbals. I will then probably progress to the sukhoi around Christmas. 3D looks so fun.
Found some batteries last night on banggood, £2.80 per 200mah 1s lipo and they are said to be good competitors with the mylioo batts. Can get 6 with a charger for £16.
I thought about this one. Nice flying by the way. I want a PA Addiction but I settled for an E-Flite Ultimate II I picked up for 210 dollars shipped off JET. Jet is trying to compete with Amazon. The best Horizon could do was 225 dollars with their 10% off.code. I may get one of those 3D UMX planes for christmas :) Thanks for sharing the video.
Already reserved an A-10! :) It looks very cool - can't wait! I remember the A-10 from going to airshows in the early 80s as a kid-you can never forget that Gatling gun when you see it up close. It's the honey badger of attack aircraft. So far one other guy at our little club is getting one, but I hope we get a small fleet going!
Where do you get those batteries? I am using the e flite batteries and they are horrible! I have several that are new that wont charge and not enough power.
Nice review and flying! Are you using some kind of hat-cam to do the video? I've tried using my Runcam2 as a hat cam to record flights, but the wide angle lens just doesn't work very well unless flying really close in.....just wondering what other people are using.
Thanks for the reply. The GoPro seems to do a really good job as a hat cam. The Runcam 2 I have doesn't have a "narrow" option, so that's probably why the GoPro works so much better in this application.
I am using medium on the go pro 60 fps if it's sunny and 30 if not. It does work well and after trying some others and seeing other hat cam vids I am pretty happy with it. The rest is keeping your head from turning in odd ways :)
this is exactly what i was looking for, except i would like it to be more durable. i plan on crashing a lot, is there another airplane like this one but maybe epp so it can take some abuse? thanks a million and great flying.
thanks DXF - you are right on, these are fragile planes. They can put up with more crashing than you may think because they are so light. Still, the foam in the nose and other places with break and crumple. An epp plane will be much more durable overall-they just come a little bigger although the smaller ones are flyable in the small park I was flying the yak. Check out twistedhobbys.com if you haven't already. Pretty much any of their planes are tough and fly great.
Great review as always! Learning 3D right now with a Twisted Hobbys MXS-C. This looks fun for indoors. Curious, where did you get your 205mah lipo? I searched mylipo & it sent me to a German page. Looks like a good quality 1s lipo!
I've found that this hovers at about 7/8ths throttle. Is this the same for you? It has almost no power to fly vertical after hovering which has been surprising to me. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
hmmm it should hover maybe a little less throttle than that. It should get ok vertical especially early in the pack - it's not a rocket but it can do it. First thing I would look at are the batteries-if they are old try a new, higher c rated pack. Then it could be the motor-they do eventually wear out, some faster than others so you could replace it. Finally, I don't know what radio you are using but there could be something in the set-up.
Awesome review. But I have a question. So, how do you get this plane to bind with a controller so that I can I fly it? I used to fly racing quads 2years ago. But my knowledge on this binding stuff is so rusty, especially that I've never bought a BNF product ever. So, what else should I get to make this bind to a transmitter and be able to use all of it's features or at least the important ones? I know that I'm going to need a transmitter and probably a receiver, but which one? I'm looking for cheap yet decent quality transmitter.
you need a spektrum compatible radio - 6 channel or more is best. The plane has the receiver included so all you need is the radio, batteries and charger.
we just got this and bound it to the dx6i and it seems glitchy is it because of the older transmitter? we have a black dx6 maybe try it on that? first time in the 3d relm so maybe it was just the gyros?
what do you mean by glitchy - couple things, could be it's in one of the assist modes. It will not fly normally in those modes - it needs to be in standard as3x for normal flying. In normal as3x it will twitch with movements of course but that is normal.
yea it was just a slightest bit of wind so maybe it was just trying to correct for the wind push. not sure yet but we are using the dx6i so have to program the other settings i guess or just bind it to our black dx6. we'll figure it out. thanks
@@GeneralHobbies that’s how ASX works, it’s an autopilot, sensing changes in heading, attitude and acceleration. The more disturbance it gets the harder the ASX works, hence glitching is a good thing.
Would you recommend this airplane for a country like Denmark which has a considerable amount of wind throughout the year however the wind never stays for long periods of time?
LHS has the AS3xtra on special but also has the new Yak 54 3D. Besides colour they seem basically identical with many of the same spares. Is it worth paying 30% more for the new Yak? PS: I will post the same question on your As3Xtra review.
Thanks. I got the AS3xtra. My god its fragile. I broke the bottom part of the rudder while attaching the side force generators!!!! Waiting for a very calm day to maiden.
I finally got my first flight as it has been windy lately. A hot spring(southern hemisphere) evening just on dusk, as the wind dropped. Wow the As3Xra fly's well. Makes all my other 3d planes seem like lumbering giants. Only used standard AS3X mode as it hovered, knife edged etc with ease in this mode without any assistance. I always choke at the price of e-flite planes, but my god they are always so exquisitely tuned/balanced/set-up straight out of the box.
So I am using the e flite batteries with this plane and they are horrible . The ones I am using are 150 mah and 45c I have several batteries that will not charge that are new. What brand are you using and where can I get them and did you say that they are 250mah?
Got this one for Christmas! Great little plane! I'm using the dx6i, so understand that only 2 flight modes are available. I don't really care as I only will be using it in standard as3x mode. On the 6i I assume position 0 on my tx is position 0 in the manual (general or standard as3x) and position 1 on my tx is position 2 in the manual. I maidened it with my transmitter accidentally in position 1 (hover assist), but the plane flew smooth and predictable. After I realized my error I flipped the switch to position 0 (standard as3x) and it oscillates in level flight. I had the old as3xtra and am familiar with the oscillations when flying in the wrong flight mode. It seems to me that channel 5 is reversed. I remember reading about some people having the same issue with the 6i on the as3xtra years ago. Can you look at your monitor screen and confirm for me where channel 5 should be for standard as3x mode? Emailed Horizon and they said it will oscillate in level flight in all modes. I don't believe that - no oscillations in your 3 videos that feature the Yak!
hey Mike - definitely shouldn't have any oscillation in normal as3x. Does it do that if you start it out in that mode? I am wondering if you flipped the switch in flight or does it do that even if starting out in position 0 from the start. I don't have the radio with me now - have you tried reversing ch 5 just to see?
I was disappointed with mine.. could barely hover or climb vertical at full throttle, even after buying new batteries (150 mah 45c). might have to try the battery brand you used
I know this is an old video but you made that plane look sooo easy to fly! Way up high on my consideration list. This is also surely the perfect inoffensive park flyer.
it's one plane that doesn't scare or annoy anyone.
I had one of these after they released them. It's been glued and taped so much that it lasts 3 minutes tops and the balance is off due to the added weight. What a cool little plane ✈ 💖I love it 💕 and a so cute dog 🐶 😳😍😍😍thanks for the Video 📹 😊 😊 😊
wow that thing turns like it's on a string. talk about a flat turn. keep up the good work.
thanks John
The flat turns are my favorite thing to do. It's extremely locked in due to the extreme gyro settings.
When I maidened it I was on position 1 by mistake. It flew exactly as I had expected. Nice and smooth. When I realized my error on the next flight, I started in position 0. It acted like it was in a heading hold mode. When I would do a flat turn to the right it was pretty smooth. sounds like a good deal and worth trying out

Ultimate II is a nice flying plane - good deal to get it for that price. 3d umx is nice because you can fly it anywhere :)
Yeah I love the mini twisted hobby crack yak as well but they are sure expensive
Cool plane and so small! You need to get the new EDF A-10 ultra micro and let us know what you think. I have always had a warm spot for that A-10.

Yeah it is one of my alltime favorites. You should have some remote control tanks and pretend to have some strafing runs with your tank killer :)
if we can get a basic formation going that will be a giant success lol...and not run into each other.
Like you dog ! Nice flying,
good job !
thanks Kevin!
What button on the transmitter activates hover assist mode
can I fly in my front room??
you could

if there is a lot of wind you won't be flying it. It can handle a little wind but is best in the calm or indoors.
@@DiscoverRC maybe they have wind indoors in Denmark!
I have 25c batteries now, and wondering if a 45c will make much of a difference? Thanks!
Only if you change the prop to a bigger one, it will draw current. 45 c relates to the rate you discharge.

unless your really want the Yak the xtra is pretty much the same thing.

they are really fragile - keep it stored in the box :)

Hi TakeItToTheGround - I loved my AS3Xtra and would love to replace it; what is LHS? [gotta link?] Thanks!
with a DX6 will I get all the modes you were talking about?
just talked to them at HH they said a DX6 will give all modes of flight assist
Yes, but if you don’t have one and you only have a 4 channel transmitter you can only use a few modes

I was disappointed with mine.. could barely hover or climb vertical at full throttle, even after buying new batteries (150 mah 45c). might have to try the battery brand you used
Probably because my battery came from hobbyking, they tend to exaggerate the rating
yeah batteries make a big difference with this plane.
Its a amazing UMX plane :-)
I idid my maiden-flight today *-*
nice - it's fun right?
I've made 20 flights in 2 days ;D
Just amazing
What skill level is needed to fly this plane
if you are comfortable with a 4 channel plane it should be ok.
Yep as said above as long as you have flown ailerons, you can always turn the rates down in your transmitter to make it more docile.
better to just grab it out of a hover. not a turf lander, fo sho ^^
