Best & Worst Beaches in Los Angeles & Orange County
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 чер 2022
- Southern California is known for having some of the world's best beaches. But they aren't ALL great. In this video I'll share what I consider to be the best and worst beaches in Los Angeles and Orange County California. We'll start at Malibu in the north, and work our way down to San Clemente in the south.
What do I look for in a good beach:
Lots of sand, the softer the better - on the beach, and in the water
Suitable for play, swimming, bodyboarding, and surfing
Easy Access, with ample parking
Clean and accessible facilities (restrooms)
Good restaurants nearby
Qualities of a bad beach:
No sand… only rocks
You need to hike a mountain goat path to get to the beach
No parking.. Or parking really far away
No waves = no fun
No restrooms
No food
Awful traffic

Awesome vid Chris!
Video was great, Chris allways does a great job
Not every location is great that’s all,
We’re headed to So Cal for a 14 day family road trip, And I just wanted to say, thank you, for all your great videos. It’s so helpful seeing how tourism is reopening/coming back, and what to expect. We used to get to cali once a year but sadly haven’t been back since 2019. Can’t wait to get back.
Thanks E B!!!
Hi Chris. Thanks for the great video. Nice to see all the locations of the beaches and the proximity they are from each other. I can go back to the archives again to get the more details on a particular beach area. Take care.
Thanks James!
Thank you Chris so so much for mentioning Seal Beach. 😊I personally feel Seal Beach is my favorite. It seems cozy, calm and friendly. I’m so glad now. 🎉Jumping up and down here of joy thanks to this video. The other beaches is nice too of course. 😅
I really like your videos. I'll be in Vegas and California next month, and your explanations are very usefull to organize my trip 👌. Thank you !
Awesome. Thanks Vincent!
I will to Vincent from the uk. I can’t wait, enjoy your trip.
You are so informative …my fav you tuber !
Thanks Janelle!
Sir you are a lifesaver! I've wanted to move to Los Angeles my whole life now I'm getting ready, but had so many things to think of, the beach was one. I had no idea there were so many beaches and now I understand the difference. Thank you Thank you! I gave a like as well.
Glad I could help!
Of real value you didn't just go beach to beach, but added context at every point along the way such as the airport and Port.
Plus "defining your terms" at the start was valuable extra effort to usefully, unambiguously deliver the information.
That's great work. Great channel. (No reply necessary)
Thanks Bill!
This video is on point! Thank you!
Glad you think so!
Awesome video Chris. Can’t wait to go to Laguna Beach later in the year!
Thanks Sophie!
Hello Chris, I love the streams. I absolutely love the photos in the intro. Will always be a Yellow Productions fan :D. Been watching your streams since 2020, and have enjoyed each one. I am already looking forward to the next one
Awesome Yoshi! Thanks for being so dedicated!
@@YellowProductions no problem
Among the ‘Bad Beach’ criteria list I would have also included the historical risks of Shark Attacks, Drownings (due to strong undercurrents, no lifeguards etc.), and Theft. 🌊 🏖 🏝
An excellent presentation; thanks for sharing, Chris.
P.S. On a slightly different note, it’s been a while that I’ve been meaning to tell you that: I really enjoy the Live Chats’ pre-opening / countdown music. It’s got a happy, ‘travely’ (I think I just invented a word 😀) vibe to it.
Good additions to the list! And travely sounds like a good word to me!
@@YellowProductions Thank you, my friend. I’ve known these beaches all my life, but I’ve never really looked at them from a global systematic angle like you have. One always learns something new by watching your well-researched, informative, and highly entertaining videos. Much appreciated, indeed. 👍🏻👏🏻 I must also say that it pains me to no end to see the deplorable state of Venice Beach, with all the homeless and the rampant criminal activities after dark. It seems the future of many of our beaches just isn’t what it used to be.
You are doing Gods work tyyy
Have a nice long weekend Mr. Chris.
Thanks MP! You too
Great video!!
Thanks Eva!
Very informative video! I hear that Dana Point used to have a killer swell back in the day before they built the harbor. Would have loved to have surfed it!
Killer Dana!
@@YellowProductions Indeed! Couldn’t leave without picking up a Killer Dana Surf Shop TShirt.
@@pointstraveler Sweet!
Sorry I missed your livestream tonight. Just got back from Texas tonight
Welcome back Joe!
Redondo car shows on friday afternoons are awesome in summer
Thank you for responding! We will be flying into Long Beach.
Sweet!
Nice! 💜💜💜
Thanks Nancy!
Good video.
If you’re going to use a skim board please double check first. For instance you can’t use one at main beach in Laguna. Also if you want to fish you gotta double check ( and you need a fishing license).
Don’t rent a car at LaX. It’s most expensive. If you can, just take a taxi or Uber literally anywhere else. Ten mins to Inglewood, Marina, El segundo etc . And try not to rent on weekends. It’s cheaper to use a taxi on weekends.
There’s a good kebab guy at main beach Laguna but he only takes cash.
If you snorkel deffo Laguna because you’re near the kelp forests where you can see lots of fish. But be aware the kelp can wrap around you so don’t swim in the kelp.
And beware of stingrays, shuffle your feet in the sand walking in the water.
Don’t forget South of Marina del Rey there’s Bellona wetlands. Great for bird spotting and wildlife watching .
As for Venice it’s always been a bit skeevy. I lived in Marina Del Rey in the early 80s and Venice always had homeless and beggars. But it’s just not my scene. The boardwalk smells like weed . It’s not the place to take kids but young adults will love it.
Thanks for the extra tips mocrg!
The homeless situation in Santa Monica is really unpleasant. It’s everywhere and inescapable, but fractionally less than Venice Beach.
True true
My favorite beaches are Manhattan, Mother's Beach, and Newport Beach in the Balboa Pier 🙌🏼
Awesome Gumer!
Loved Redondo but kelp big problem when we visited in 2016. Manhattan, Santa Monica, Laguna r stellar Went to Manhattan & SM in Jan this year
Hey Greg. Kelp comes and goes to all the Socal beaches. Probably just happened to be a bad time at Redondo when you went
We love Westward Beach at Point Dume. Not usually a lot of people there and the parking is right next to the beach. You can back in and just pull out your chairs and be sitting at the beach. Also, it is where
the last scene of the original Planet of the Apes was shot with Charlton Heston where he sees the torch of the Statue of Liberty and realizes he is on earth. (spoiler alert 54 years later?)
Thanks for the tip Mara!
Will you be talking about the Ventura County beaches as well?
Hi Guy.. I haven't spent as much time up in Ventura
We visited Will Rogers State Beach in 1996,my daughter been a big Baywatch fan wanted to see the beach they made it all on.She got her wish to walk on that beach, saw the famous lifegaurd headquarters that was used in the show and met a couple of real lifeguards who worked on the show, that made her day.We visited Venice beach too,we weren't too fussed on that area, too many strange quirky people about and also really crowded. We didn't stay there too long ,
luckily for us there was a police man nearby who noticed we were out of towners,he asked us were we were from.We told him we were from the UK and was now wanting to get back to our hotel in Anaheim, could he direct us on how to get back from Venice,he turned round and said not to worry,i will take you all back, which was what this kind policeman did for us.He saved us getting lost and the possibility of being attacked or mugged
plus the stress and hassle of getting back to the hotel on our own.Thankypu for this interesting video.
So much to do in Newport Beach I think it’s the best in OC
You have the ONLY UA-cam channel where you can find out what Cherry Blosson Cola taste like... cool!
Hah! Awesome :)
We are planning a vacation to California. Thinking of doing Disneyland, Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park. But I’d also like to drive some of route 1 and see some coastal towns. Do you have any suggestions on towns to visit or an itinerary of what to do in what order? Thanks!
Hi... I don't have quite a video on that topic... I did make one on my favorite things to see in California: ua-cam.com/video/CD7Aq42EpeE/v-deo.html
But if I was starting from San Francisco driving south along the coast -- then the highlights would be Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Solvang, and Santa Barbara before hitting LA. When you're in OC the couple beaches to see are Laguna Beach, and Newport Beach (go to Balboa Island to see how the rich live with their yachts)
You should do a video on Ventura beaches.
I probably need to travel there more first :)
@@YellowProductions check out some of the ? State Parks while your up there.
Redondo to manhattan beach is #1, bike paths, 3 great piers, LAX is close
Have you done any reviews on Catalina Island?
Hello Magical, we have a lot of island reviews and travel
Check them out ✌🏼
Thanks for watching 😎
Not yet Magical Me
Venice Beach boardwalk was dreadful. Felt so unsafe and left
Hello from Florida
I fell the same way about southern cali especially that beach area. Trip over the homeless to be greeted by the drug dealers and pimps.
But hey the POT shops are good 👍 lol
Its not bad, u were probably first timer there
Nah. Used to go in the 90’s all the time. Loes on the beach
@@runningkirkwa2934 my first time experiencing junkies shooting up on the wall so you know..
Go go La Jolla San Diego very family oriented and safe
I’ve been to Santa Monica and Venice but didn’t know they were next to each other.
Lol you have to trip over all the surfers in Santa Monica to get to all the homeless in Venice.
Sounds like fun 🤩
@@EpicAdventureCouple I’ve gone to Santa Monica for walking around and a few rides and Venice for walking on the boardwalk. Never into the water!
The best parts of Venice Beach is the VENICE sign and the parks also the parking at the South but Homeless is where the North is you know after the skatepark but their both nice beaches but I rather be at Santa Monica at Night.
Where do you recommend that we stay near a California beach with public volleyball to avoid that?
I loved La Jolla San Diego Beach last summer ! Next goal is Laguna Beach
You'll definitely enjoy Laguna!
@@YellowProductions what are your top 5? Have you been to the glass beach and Big Sur?
@YellowProductions also what are your top 5 most incredible whole California? I want to go back and be mind blown
What area has the best christmas lights? We will be there this december.
Balboa Island in Newport Beach has epic Christmas lights. So does the Naples Island neighborhood in Long Beach
@@YellowProductions thank you!
💛💛💛
I’ve lived in LA and later in Orange Co since 1973, been to all those beaches. I will never go to an LA Beach again.
Yeah. OC beaches are definitely superior to LA beaches
Hi, we are planning an LA trip in 2023. Can you provide any tips to travellers about the homelessness in LA. It seems to be a growing problem everywhere in LA. We like to walk where possible but I know LA is not a very walkable city. We don't have such a large on street homeless problem in the UK.
Hi Eileen. Hmmm. Not sure what kind of tips you're looking for. But yeah. Homelessness is indeed a big problem in LA and it's getting worse for sure. The worst areas are Downtown LA and Venice Beach
Hollywood, Venice Beach, Downtown LA, and Santa Monica all have homeless issues. It's not safe to be walking around as a tourist.
Downtown LA for sure and the inner cities like South LA and Watts just to name a few. If you stay close to the cities towards the beach, you should be good.
The first time I went to Venice it was so weird because it’s gloomy
So awesome to see a Jewish guide for the OC! Mazeltov!
Back in the late 60's and early 70's and even in the 80's the ⛱️🏖️ Beaches of Southern California were all safe and well cared for but alas not anymore. "What a Shame".

The beaches of Orange County are still pretty well kept and safe
@@YellowProductions That is Great 😃👍💯!
I have a son who lives in Fullerton CA and Love's the Beach ⛱️🏖️.So it's very nice to know that he will still have a nice 👍💯😁 place to go.

What would you say is your top. 10? I went to la Jolla and I want to go back and be mind blown
He said they can’t get there lol😂
Hi I will be visiting LA at the end of july, I will be staying in DTLA and plan to go to Malibu and getty villa, is that possible through public transportation? Thanks in advance
Yeah. From DTLA you can take the Metro Expo Line to Santa Monica. Then from Santa Monica take up a bus along Pacific Coast Highway in to Malibu
Hello!
Hi Elizabeth!
Because people usually leave Venice at like 5-6 p.m. or earlier just to go to Santa Monica because it’s filled with so much homeless and dirty
Redondo is awesome, get a fire chief at tony's, manny the bartender has been there 40 years
Thanks for the tip!
@@YellowProductions u make nice youtube videos. Appreciated
I live in Santa Monica, but NEVER go to Santa Monica beach. The water is dirty, lots of trash, filthy bathrooms with homeless and is now over run by illegal vendors. Its OK if you want to do the "pier thing", but as beaches go, go SOUTH
Thanks for your local perspective
@devangel what beach do you recommend to avoid all those factors you mentioned?
Pb wienie roast?
Beach ambiance: Malibu>Hollywood trash. Santa Monica>nice mix + gays. Manhattan Beach>comfy middle class. Long Beach>mix + gays. Huntington Beach>lower-class, trashy. Newport/Balboa>richies. Laguna>artsy, mix, gays. San Clemente>mix, middle-brow people.
Laguna is best for sophisticates. Great for a weekend.
