Thanks for the shout out, Steve! I’ll be back in the kitchen soon. So glad you enjoyed the records. I put some thought into the records I sent you. You’re a good man, Steve! I’ve been enjoying your channel for quite some time now. Thanks for putting in all the hard work to entertain us all! I cried in the back set of my dad’s 1976 Volvo after my first kiss. My tears began to flow as soon as Barry Manilow’s Mandy came on the radio as I knew I was never going to see my first kiss again, lol. I have great respect for BM. He is one of the greatest songwriters of our time and a sheer master of his genre. Yes I sent the BM record in fun but also because I thought to myself if your wife doesn’t listen to it she can at least look 👀 at him. 😂
    Summer Breeze is killer sounding!
I love when groups push the envelope like that! Great choice. I was really digging the bass line in the Heather Black needle drop! I picked up 40 mint stereo pressing of some of my favorite classical records for 50 cents each in New Mexico on this last trip. I’ll never pass up opportunities like that. That a beautiful Mozart album you played. I think my next VCS video is going to be homemade chili rellenos. 😊

Ooooo sounds like a great first recipe Steve. Great story on Barry. I liked his stuff growing up, good for slow dancing and making out but once I was introduced to punk and alternative everything changed. Still, it is about memories and about growing up. BM is full of those and he did know how to make a heck of a great chorus for singing along. My wife really liked it though she may never listen to it. I did get her a greatest hits CD of his Thank you for the time and effort you put into this package, it really meant a lot I hope things start to slow down so I can enjoy music again

That was some great VCLT. Wow - three symphonies on one record! That's really packing a punch. You know, Chris Propfe does an outstanding version of Manilow's "Mandy" accompanying himself on guitar. Thanks for showing the records!

    • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
      @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147  4 місяці тому

Mandy would work nice with an acoustic guitar and it sure dominated the airwaves. Barry could write a hook, that’s for sure. Mozart was crazy good, new symphony every couple of days. What a mind Randy

Steve, that was an unexpected shout-out. I didn't mean to be an influencer! I did play a sample of the 1st song on side 1 of Heather Black in my video, but it was much slower and you probably fell asleep during it. Nice Sir Douglas Quintet album, I have the CD. Thanks, Chris

I must have slept through side one Chris. It obviously did not catch my attention. Side two made me stop hating I was doing though and go look for that album. Music samples are deadly. If you had not done the sample I would not have bought it

Hey Steve great scores especially the Jon & The Nightriders. In my area (Alberta, Canada) you don't find many surf albums in the wild. I have managed to find 1 LP of theirs & 1 12'" EP. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend. Cheers.

Alberta, not really the surfing Mecca of Canada lol. In the Midwest I also don’t come across many surf albums so this was a good one. I can find a billion Ventures album but they try to redo too many songs. This one had the pure feel of the music to me and does not cost an arm and a leg

Interesting stuff as always, Professor! There was a terrific documentary on Doug Sahm released in 2015...it's well worth finding and checking it out...although I'd read they had to pull it from Amazon because they lost the music rights, hopefully they've fixed that again. The surf Rock album sounds interesting - and I love that channel, fascinating stuff they're doing at Vinyl Record Mission. And..there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits, you know...I've shown my collection of his stuff before...heh heh...you DO need some time off, though. You're supposed to be RETIRED...that means relaxing, not working yourself to the bone, you kknow...hang in there, get some rest when you can, sir!

Funny. I mixed a streaming show for Amazon in Denmark. I went there because that is where the Director lives. One of the episodes featured the song Mandy from Barry Manilow. About two minutes of it played during a desert night drive scene with a famous actor. Never was a Barry Manilow fan. But after hearing that song over and over again during the sound mix of that particular episode it was hard not to have the damn thing grow on you. Catchy tune for sure. Thanks for the awesome video and needle drops my friend.

Well how fun to go to Denmark to work! I have been there only a couple of days but loved it. Now I am glad that 1000 repeated listens of Mandy was not torture. Pretty sure the CIA uses some of those crappy songs as torture. A Manilow greatest hits works great for me, I do not need to delve deep into his catalog. And I’m glad you survived Mandy lol

Sounds like your working harder now than you were before you retired Steve.. take it easy my friend!...
That version of Summer Breeze is outrageous..yet somehow refreshing.
I've watched a few of the Vinyl Mission videos, the digging in the container is quite compelling..Nice vclt.
I have a lot of classical on CD but very little on vinyl..I love Chopin piano etudes and preludes, what you played sounded nice.
I love the surf music energy...never see Ventures or similar stuff over here ..
My wife is a big fan of Barry Manilow..can't say I share her enthusiasm!..she saw him in concert with a former boyfriend (poor guy).
Psych- folk from the 60s, Heather Black sounds right up my street...I'm sure I'd love Side 1..😂
Apologies if I'm missing some of your videos Steve, mum lost a fight with a supermarket trolley and fractured her heel..she's laid up for several weeks and needs some extra looking after..still holding out hope Kat may show up...

I am a fan of classical music Rob but definitely no expert, I can’t talk real intelligently about the actual music. Instead I focus on the story behind it and let the sample make people decide if they like it or not. Maybe someone will find something new in it. Big surprise, I find Chopin a little too slow haha. Shocker!

Type O Negative is really interesting. Never heard of them before tbh, but I loved the sample. The Surf Beat was interesting, but not sure I could manage a whole album of it! Like you, a best of compilation is often all I'm looking for. Blimey, more classical. I should listen to more of it. Being a bit of a progger I should like that stuff. St Martin-in-the Field is no longer in the field! Once it was, but now that's Trafalgar Square in central London. Great vid. You really do need a break, Steve!

Surf music is fun but it only goes so far kind of limiting I think. Ventures seemed to make 100 albums but they just remade popular songs with a surf beat, who needs all that Andy. Type O album has some very good songs and then some stuff that does not appeal to me. The good out weighed the bad in my book! Fun fact on St Martin’s, I had no idea. I want to do more classical but I’m slowly stacking up on albums lol.

Hey Steve! Sorry to hear about those rough days of retirement. Type O Negative - man, they are/were one of my absolute favorite bands of all time. The loss of Peter Steele was quite a shock, but thankfully I had a chance to see them live at Harpo's in Detroit in 2007. Great album! Musical differences, I like that Harris. My wife and I have incredible musical differences luckily I do most of the driving and the driver chooses what to play! Pretty sure she would not dig Type O. Mozart was amazing, and absolute pain in the ass and pretty irresponsible but boy could he pound out a tune Harris.

Hey Steve since you like zydeco gotta give a listen to Zachary Richard. He's from the mid 80s, Louisiana and he's original!! Got a few albums out there. Try "Snake Bite Love" for a starter...fun catchy tunes with great accordion by Zachary.

Hells yeah Type O Negative. Peter Steele was a genius. Do you know the meaning of Black No.1. Go to your local salon and tell them you want your hair dyed the darkest black. How would you look with jet black hair? You’d probably look like James Bond! Buckwheat Zydeco is completely opposite of Type O. lol. I think I’ve heard of that Mozart guy before. Great video. Glad hell week is over. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman

Definitely quieter though still extremely busy Steve. My pale skin and jet black hair, I was born to be a goth! I did not know what Black No 1 was. I have probably completed my Type O Negative discography now with one album lol.

type o negative: I saw them open for Queensryche back in 95'? 96'? and though its not my type of band, I can respect the unique sound they brought to the metal scene back then. The Singer was in a band called CArnivore before he started Type O Negative.

Hi Steve, sorry to hear that Kat is not back. I was thinking that maybe he was walking back to Michigan. Have heard about pet cats and dogs walking many miles to get back to their old homes.

I have also heard about that Peter. At his age I don’t think he would go far, he would be too busy sleeping. Very sad about him, we just home someone found him and took him in

Coincidentally, my sister and I are O-Negative. That means we can supply blood to any other blood type but to get a blood transfusion, we need O-Negative (only 7% of the population). Story of my life. I'm wondering whether I could trade blood for records... perhaps O-Negative records.

You need a T Shirt that say “In case of emergency tap one of my veins”. That would make it hard to get a refill of blood. I guess this means you are just special and after the apocalypse happens you are going to be one very popular dude

I do enjoy the videos! ✌️

Hi Steve. It sounds like your having a hectic time at the moment. I loved that 80s surf guitar album. But Negative O an acquired taste I think. I'm really sorry to hear about Kat..

It is a shame about Kat, I hope he is okay. Type O is an acquired taste, not my typical but somehow that album captured my attention. Who know Mike why certain albums just appeal to us

Someone else said that. Nikki Sixx stole that guys name since he stole his girlfreind! That is an even better story!

Whoa, wait a minute, it's Not the same, Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue. Actually, Nikki took the name from this guy in Jon and The Nightriders after he stole his girlfriend, too.

No kidding? That is even a better story. Nikki one steals the girl and Nikki 2 steals the name. In the long run #2 came out ahead. Great bit of trivia
