superfast30 What seiko solar watch do you own ? I got an Eco-Drive same time as I got a Seiko Solar and after 4 years the Eco-Drive won’t take a charge at all , but the seiko ssc015 is working great, so in my experience seiko is better
I collect Eco Drives as the only Non-Automatic pieces in my collection. My admiration for Citizen watches started with a Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T JY8030-83E GMT, which I even today find irresistible with that mesh bracelet regardless of it the huge size. I have the green version of the Promaster Tough you are incidentally wearing but I also ordered the Metal bracelet only offered together with Black version, and it matches perfectly with the green version colorwise. Only unique piece in my collection, HAHA.
My first dive watch is s citizen promaster automatic that I bought in the 90's. Then I bought another citizen divers watch promaster Aqualand eco drive that is more than 18 years old and still going strong. Last year I bought another citizen Promaster Aqualand Eco drive. I prefer my Eco drive divers over my automatic divers watch for accuracy and convenience. I put my eco drive under and LED lamp in our basement when not in use.
ALBA (by Seiko) makes a solar field watch which I own. I don't know if they have other solar watches. The field watch I own is titanium but I believe it is now only available in stainless steel. The watch is fine, but nothing fancy. The only thing some might find wrong with it is that it has no lume even though the hands are painted so they look like they have lume. 🤷♂️ I just use it for a grab-n-go beater.

I would vote Casio as they have the most complications in a solar watch while maintaining equal reliability to the other two (Seiko and Citizen). I will mention that I personally know owners and read reports of Casio and Citizen solar watches that have been left in the dark (closets and drawers) past the reserve times (6 to 10 months), then proceeded to fail at charging and operating accurately after that, requiring a replacement Capacitor... but have yet to witness the same from a Seiko Solar watch....

For the record the Camry is a better car. In 20 years time the Camry will still be on the road and the Bugatti simply wont be. Hyper cars are only cool until you start to scrutinize them up close. Shoddy fit and finish and problems are quite common unfortunately. I like Citizen. I have owned a number of Eco Drives. They were/are all good watches! I haven't owned any other companies solar watches so I cant vouch for them.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I love Citizen and have reviewed a number of their watches on my channel! Hope you'll check out more or my content!
It is NOT a difficult question. You are attempting to obfuscate the obvious. Citizen is hands down the accepted superior to all other solar watches with the Eco-Drive. As much as I truly LOVE Seiko, it is inferior to Citizen. Period.
I've had a Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre 2100 'Panda' for about 10 years and I really love everything about the watch... The solar battery always shows fully charged regardless of the seasons and even if it's not been used for a while. In contrast, my other solar watch a Radio Controlled Casio G-Shock Tough Solar really struggles to hold a full charge and often drains to flashing 'charge mode' in winter. I know there is a difference in purchase price between the two but I still think that Casio needs to improve the performance of their Tough Solar batteries. The solar feature spoils an otherwise brilliant watch.
Originally, I absolutely love SWISS made time pieces; like my TISSOT super sport rugby tachometer chronograph. But I just purchased a : CITIZEN ECO DRIVE brycen chronograph perpetual calendar, rose gold w leather straps. Never ! Needing another watch again, one for work (tissot) and one for the weekend (citizen) couldn’t be more happier.
I like solar and mechanical because of the sustainable aspect; saving the earth from battery waste (and saving myself from purchasing lots of batteries). Pulsar wasn't mentioned although they're with Seiko. A couple brands in your video I'm looking forward to checking out. My Armitron Solar has held the test of time. So has my Citizen Eco-drive.
It depends! That was what I thought until I learned that the life expectancy of those rechargeable batteries (ctl1616) is about 10 years, maybe 20 years if you're lucky, so in the end you'll need to replace them. A CR2016 battery for a square g shock with basic functions (DW5600 series for instance) will last up to 10 years. In my country a ctl1616 recharcheable battery costs 13 US dollars, for the same price I can buy 100 (!) Sony CR2016 batteries for my DW 5600 g-shocks! So my conclusion is that tough solar is worth it only for those watches with power-hungry functions such as altimeter, barometer, compass...those functions drain a non-rechargeable battery very quickly, and you'd need to replace it after a couple of years only...but solar power is useless for watches with just basic functions. To me a tough solar GWM5610-1 g-shock which outside atomic time, has only basic functions doesn't really make sense. Maybe that Multiband 6 function is super power-hungry...but who really needs that function?!
i dont agree at the "luxory" argument for tissot. tissot is not realy a luxory brand, they have a lot of watches on the 500$ mark. like other brands, tissot have a full spectrum. for a luxory solar powered watch, there is, in my opinion, nothing other then the citizen cal. 0100. its the most acurate wristwatch ever produces, uses all of citizens mastership of great quartz movements and added a highly refined and presice finishing, that puts swiss high end watch companys to a shame.. oh, and the price starts at 10'000$. In terms of variety and reliability, i think, citizen is the king of solar watches, they have a great solar watch on every budget and for every taste and for every needs
Stefan Infanger I agree with you, perhaps we could call Tissot a “semi” luxury brand? I forgot about the Citizen Cal. 0100! This is an amazing piece for sure! Thanks for watching!
@@TheTownWatch your welcome :) btw: i think, you wear one of the greatest solar watches ever in the video.. the promaster tough is such an impressive watch for the price
I've had a Citizen for a few years I don't think that it was TOO expensive. (it was a gift) so I hope not. And it has run perfectly and kept super accurate time.
Great video man. Love learning more about watches and this really was an interesting video about a niche but very important genre of watches that many overlook...for my 2 cents, its got to be citizen every time. 👍😊
Very good information. Swiss Military has 3 solar watches in their catalog. I rather liked their titanium offering. Why didn't I buy it? I felt it was over-priced. Thanks to you, I now have some other options to check out.
I own both promaster toughs.the H link bracelet and the black cordura strap..and they are accurate as hell..i wear them to work and my job is ALL hands and they stand up to the beating.
Great job! The passion that you have in putting together all this information is amazing. I learned a ton. I thought solar watches are another type of movement.
Interesting summary...thank you! I own an ALBA Solar ( Seiko's SE Asia brand) after owning several Seiko and ALBA branded automatics...all of which happily travelled the World with me...I live in Melbourne, Australia. I believe Solar is the future for watches...at aĺl price points. I imported this ALBA V158-0AX0 from Japan, instead of Singapore where I usually shopped when passing through. Keep up the good work...I'll look for your videos in fufure.
I own a Tissot automatic and a Citizen eco drive. Aways wanted an automatic so got the Tissot for my first watch in many years and came across the eco drive feature and thought it was so cool I had to have one for my daily driver and keep the Tissot for occasional use. Thinking of trying one of the Jack Mason solar watches because I really like the compass feature that actually works. I will probably add a few more solar/eco drive watches to my collection just because it's such a no brainer as a watch feature.
Great video. I've just bought a seiko solar divers and have become obsessed with the idea of solar watches being the ultimate solution for any watch. I also have an original tissot touch titanium which is an amazing watch... except the battery life is hopeless.
I own seiko solar Steel & it is gifted by my son Bhushan from Canada 6 years back & working in wonderful condition & without problem. Even in less light & cold conditions it works miraculously & no single second difference even in manual book it is mentioned that + or - the first 25 seconds is experienced . Thanks to son & seiko company & Sai God for getting available such best watch - K Girish. India, Maharashtra, Pune
Thanks for your detailed and persuasive video about solar watches. I am the inheritor of a Citizen Eco-Drive (wr-200), and I really do enjoy wearing it. I would like to know everything that this watch can do. The features and specs of the Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre movement blew my mind🤯...Next Level!
Great sum up! I fell in love with solar powered watches after getting a Pro-Master as a gift. My current collection of three (all that I want and more than I need!) is all solars and also what I wear. From less to more formal : Casio B5600BC G-shock Tough Solar. WR20bar, composite link band, for hard work, sports and outdoor swimming Citizen AT0361-06E World Time Chrono Eco-Drive. WR10bar, NATO strap, for daily wear, sports and indoor swimming Seiko SNE525P1 blue dial Solar. WR10 bar, matching blue leather strap, for fancier occasions If I had to keep only one, It'd be the Citizen as it combines some of the Casio functions (world time, chrono) with the classier look of the Seiko and it reminds me of Kaneda's bike from the Akira comics/anime.
I have both Solar and Automatic watches , Invicta and Tommy Hilfiger Kenneth Cole Michael Kors and Versace, plus Armani and Fossil.. and cheap ones like Biden and Forsingning and Toing and many more
In general a Camry is way better than a Bugatti, unless you want to talk speed Camry is better coz: 1- it has four doors 2- it seats 5 people 3- it has a trunk 4- it's more safe 5- it's more reliable ... ect So you should specify in which way you want to compare them
A great presentation - packed with factual information - plus a new brand I had never heard of (Centric). Also, nice to see recognition of Bering - a brand which is ignored by the watch media.
Hard to find reviews on Bering. Just bought a Bering Titanium Solar watch. Everything about it impressed me. I'll see how it stands the test of time :)
Great video. Very interesting. No way really to prove which is the best. I do have 2 Eco Drive Pro masters and a Solar Tuna. I would go with Citizen over Seiko with there solar models, basically beacause Citizen gets the QC right, and are much better values. I wouldn’t compare digital watches to analog quartz watches. I also have some solar G-Shock squares.
I prefer kinetics over solar tbh. I like a bit of mechanical aspect with a rotor. I know kinetics are needy for those with large collection but fortunately my most worn watch is a Seiko AGS. It is old, made in 1988. I bought it pre-owned. The former owner has replaced the capacitor in 2013 so now the new capacitor is 10 years old. When I bought it, it was dead. I recharged it by shaking for few minutes. It run with no problem untill today. I haven't check the power capacity but the new modern capacitor should hold charge for few months at least.
Great video. I'm looking at purchasing a Solar watch as a gift and considering between Citizen and Bering. Main criteria are that it has actual readable numbers, Clutter-free face (like the Citizen Field watch (Garrison) - Totally the opposite of the Citizen Nightmare...er..I mean Nighthawk, light-weight, an easy to put on/take off strap and a bonus would be one that illuminates in the dark. The only Bering option that matches most of the criteria is the Bering 16433-002.
I have a couple of solar watches in my collection. Both are from Citizen. I have the Promaster and the Flieger B Dial. I have the black dial model which is no longer available. Anyway, not only a good review but also packed with info.
Goals, functions, design and budget need to be defined first before evaluating "best". Example: Casio Duro overachieved in all goals, design, function and budget by at least 3x. But if a watch company hits the mark perfectly 1x, then it has less value than the 3x overachiever (even if they are in completely different price ranges).
Citizen hands down best solar and maybe even value for solar. Orient has a solar chronograph (the neo 70s). I believe they have normal quartz and solar quartz variants.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching man! I forgot to mention Orient in this video but funny you should mention their solar chronograph, I might have one coming to the channel soon!
Solios is another solar brand. Very new company. I haven't tried them myself. I have a Timex, Citizen and Casio solar watch. I love all three and because all three are so affordable, I don't have to pick a favorite. I can have them all. 😁
I have a Casio Solar Powered Wave Ceptor. This watch is very nice and practical. I have owned the watch for approximately 10 years. Unfortunately the case of the watch is made from a composite material and not from metal. The case broke on me just near the place where the wrist band attaches to the case. I have been unable to find a replacement case for the watch anywhere including the manufacturers Casio. I do however manage to fix the wristband in place by using, after many different brands of glues and resins, UHU Super Glue. The wrist band is still in place after using the watch for the past 4 months or so. If Casio made the case out of metal instead of a composite material I would find it very difficult to find a more rugged and serviceable timepiece at a very modest price anywhere. Well done Casio but please manufacture the case in metal.
Great video man, hard to tell who has the better solar watch. However I do know that Citizen’s core product is the eco drive movement. Therefore that would be the “affordable” recommendation IMHO!!

Thanks for watching! Glad you've got some good solar watches!
The amount of metal is negligible and can be recycled anyway. Climate hysteria
Stefan Infanger Thank you! It’s one of my favorite watches! What are you enjoying wearing today?
@@TheTownWatch the same as you ;) is also one of my favorite ;)
Stefan Infanger Nice! 😁
I've had a Citizen for a few years I don't think that it was TOO expensive. (it was a gift) so I hope not. And it has run perfectly and kept super accurate time.
Really good video but man dudes voice is slow... Speed it up to X1.25 makes it alot better imo
Great video man. Love learning more about watches and this really was an interesting video about a niche but very important genre of watches that many overlook...for my 2 cents, its got to be citizen every time. 👍😊
Kevin Tyrrell Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video! Citizen is a great choice!
Very good information. Swiss Military has 3 solar watches in their catalog. I rather liked their titanium offering. Why didn't I buy it? I felt it was over-priced. Thanks to you, I now have some other options to check out.
Greg Alonzo I’ll have to check that company out! Glad you were able to hear about some other companies! Thanks for watching!
I own both promaster toughs.the H link bracelet and the black cordura strap..and they are accurate as hell..i wear them to work and my job is ALL hands and they stand up to the beating.
They're great watches!
I have a citizen echo drive watch it’s a very good watch
The second hand is right on each marking your friend eddie
Thanks for watching!
Great job! The passion that you have in putting together all this information is amazing. I learned a ton. I thought solar watches are another type of movement.
Glad you enjoyed and learned something! Thanks for watching! I hope you'll check out more of my content on my channel!
Citizen wins , maybe seiko is good but i don't have enough experience
Thanks for watching!
Solios solar dress watches are top notch also. An American brand.
Great video. I've just bought a seiko solar divers and have become obsessed with the idea of solar watches being the ultimate solution for any watch. I also have an original tissot touch titanium which is an amazing watch... except the battery life is hopeless.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
From less to more formal :
Casio B5600BC G-shock Tough Solar. WR20bar, composite link band, for hard work, sports and outdoor swimming
Citizen AT0361-06E World Time Chrono Eco-Drive. WR10bar, NATO strap, for daily wear, sports and indoor swimming
Seiko SNE525P1 blue dial Solar. WR10 bar, matching blue leather strap, for fancier occasions
If I had to keep only one, It'd be the Citizen as it combines some of the Casio functions (world time, chrono) with the classier look of the Seiko and it reminds me of Kaneda's bike from the Akira comics/anime.
I have both Solar and Automatic watches , Invicta and Tommy Hilfiger Kenneth Cole Michael Kors and Versace, plus Armani and Fossil.. and cheap ones like Biden and Forsingning and Toing and many more
In general a Camry is way better than a Bugatti, unless you want to talk speed
Camry is better coz:
1- it has four doors
2- it seats 5 people
3- it has a trunk
4- it's more safe
5- it's more reliable
... ect
So you should specify in which way you want to compare them
👍😅
A great presentation - packed with factual information - plus a new brand I had never heard of (Centric). Also, nice to see recognition of Bering - a brand which is ignored by the watch media.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! I hope you'll check out more of my content!
Hard to find reviews on Bering. Just bought a Bering Titanium Solar watch. Everything about it impressed me. I'll see how it stands the test of time :)
best of luck! @@mafiotzi
Another great informational video. I love you adding the history to the brand story. Really helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
tissot is very bad regarding sensors and compass...i am speaking after i tried and compared watches
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!
Citizen good in solar watch,. But they really lack of 38-40mm size solar watch, with good lume on it.
Good point! Thanks for watching!
Orient came out with a solar powered piece.
Thanks for watching! Citizen does a great job! Glad to hear you have a variety of solar pieces in your collection!
What does QC stand for?
@Robert Riva It's short for Quality Control.
affordable good qualitey is CASIO👍
100% Thanks for watching!
Great video! My favorite Solar watches are the same 3 you mentioned, Seiko, Citizen, Casio.
Thank you for the great content
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
It's down to Casio vs citizen...
I haven't had hands on experience with any Bering watches but I have with many Citizens and they are usually great pieces! Thanks for watching!
I have a couple of solar watches in my collection. Both are from Citizen. I have the Promaster and the Flieger B Dial. I have the black dial model which is no longer available. Anyway, not only a good review but also packed with info.
David McKenna Nice! Glad you have a couple Citizen Eco Drives in your collection! Thanks for watching and commenting!
How could he forget Orient? What a joke.
But they are part of the Seiko group
Perfect! I have one on my Amazon list and might make it my next purchase! Really enjoy the channel
The Orient Solar Panda is a very good looking chrono but they use Seiko movements.
Solios is another solar brand. Very new company. I haven't tried them myself. I have a Timex, Citizen and Casio solar watch. I love all three and because all three are so affordable, I don't have to pick a favorite. I can have them all. 😁
Thanks for sharing that brand. I haven't heard about it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching! Sorry this happened to you! I’m really surprised you couldn’t find a replacement case!
Casio does make solar watches from all metal. The resin watches are lower cost, so you get to choose what you want to pay for.
Just curious, i know a full charge lasts 10 years, but how long does it take to get a full charge? I have a seiko solar
I have been wanting to start collecting solars. Didn't know where to start. You have made this decision for me.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed! Hope you'll check out my other videos!
Ffs! Thought I had playback speed at half!! What’s the problem man??
Great video. You're going to make a real success of this channel. Keep up the good work!
SimonTheWatchGuy Appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching and for your support!
Timex released their first solar-powered watch, the Timex Solar, in 1997
I have both Citizens and Casios in my collection. Both work fine.
Thank you for presenting all the great history of these watch companies.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video man, hard to tell who has the better solar watch. However I do know that Citizen’s core product is the eco drive movement. Therefore that would be the “affordable” recommendation IMHO!!
SoCal Watch Reviews Thanks for watching my friend! I think Citizen has been the consensus so far! I can’t really argue with that!
Casio for me and their service dept is really good.
Casio is great!
