Very good information. Swiss Military has 3 solar watches in their catalog. I rather liked their titanium offering. Why didn't I buy it? I felt it was over-priced. Thanks to you, I now have some other options to check out.

I own a Tissot automatic and a Citizen eco drive. Aways wanted an automatic so got the Tissot for my first watch in many years and came across the eco drive feature and thought it was so cool I had to have one for my daily driver and keep the Tissot for occasional use. Thinking of trying one of the Jack Mason solar watches because I really like the compass feature that actually works. I will probably add a few more solar/eco drive watches to my collection just because it's such a no brainer as a watch feature.
Great job! The passion that you have in putting together all this information is amazing. I learned a ton. I thought solar watches are another type of movement.
I've had a Citizen for a few years I don't think that it was TOO expensive. (it was a gift) so I hope not. And it has run perfectly and kept super accurate time.

It depends! That was what I thought until I learned that the life expectancy of those rechargeable batteries (ctl1616) is about 10 years, maybe 20 years if you're lucky, so in the end you'll need to replace them. A CR2016 battery for a square g shock with basic functions (DW5600 series for instance) will last up to 10 years. In my country a ctl1616 recharcheable battery costs 13 US dollars, for the same price I can buy 100 (!) Sony CR2016 batteries for my DW 5600 g-shocks! So my conclusion is that tough solar is worth it only for those watches with power-hungry functions such as altimeter, barometer, compass...those functions drain a non-rechargeable battery very quickly, and you'd need to replace it after a couple of years only...but solar power is useless for watches with just basic functions. To me a tough solar GWM5610-1 g-shock which outside atomic time, has only basic functions doesn't really make sense. Maybe that Multiband 6 function is super power-hungry...but who really needs that function?!
Great video man. Love learning more about watches and this really was an interesting video about a niche but very important genre of watches that many overlook...for my 2 cents, its got to be citizen every time. 👍😊
Originally, I absolutely love SWISS made time pieces; like my TISSOT super sport rugby tachometer chronograph. But I just purchased a : CITIZEN ECO DRIVE brycen chronograph perpetual calendar, rose gold w leather straps. Never ! Needing another watch again, one for work (tissot) and one for the weekend (citizen) couldn’t be more happier.
I own both promaster toughs.the H link bracelet and the black cordura strap..and they are accurate as hell..i wear them to work and my job is ALL hands and they stand up to the beating.
Seiko and Citizen are by far the best ones, but I am biased XD Also, Coutura watches are INSANE value to money wise (they are Seiko's mid tier, something like between their regular line and Grand Seiko). actually no, I take this back, it's better less people know about them so they won't up their price :P
Interesting summary...thank you! I own an ALBA Solar ( Seiko's SE Asia brand) after owning several Seiko and ALBA branded automatics...all of which happily travelled the World with me...I live in Melbourne, Australia. I believe Solar is the future for watches...at aĺl price points. I imported this ALBA V158-0AX0 from Japan, instead of Singapore where I usually shopped when passing through. Keep up the good work...I'll look for your videos in fufure.
Los Relojes de Sergio Thanks for the feedback! Glad you were introduced to some new brands! I did a review of a 111 watch on my channel if you want to check it out!
Great video. I'm looking at purchasing a Solar watch as a gift and considering between Citizen and Bering. Main criteria are that it has actual readable numbers, Clutter-free face (like the Citizen Field watch (Garrison) - Totally the opposite of the Citizen Nightmare...er..I mean Nighthawk, light-weight, an easy to put on/take off strap and a bonus would be one that illuminates in the dark. The only Bering option that matches most of the criteria is the Bering 16433-002.
Great sum up! I fell in love with solar powered watches after getting a Pro-Master as a gift. My current collection of three (all that I want and more than I need!) is all solars and also what I wear. From less to more formal : Casio B5600BC G-shock Tough Solar. WR20bar, composite link band, for hard work, sports and outdoor swimming Citizen AT0361-06E World Time Chrono Eco-Drive. WR10bar, NATO strap, for daily wear, sports and indoor swimming Seiko SNE525P1 blue dial Solar. WR10 bar, matching blue leather strap, for fancier occasions If I had to keep only one, It'd be the Citizen as it combines some of the Casio functions (world time, chrono) with the classier look of the Seiko and it reminds me of Kaneda's bike from the Akira comics/anime.
I didn't realise there were so many Solar watches out there. Like you I also purchased the citizen promaster tough(BN0211-50E) I now have my eye on a Seiko Astron (SSH073) a radio controlled satellite GPS Solar powered watch. Would you do a review on it? I'd love to know your thoughts. Cheers from Robert in Australia.
Thanks for watching! I've seen those Seiko Astron watches, they're quite impressive pieces though usually very busy dials. I'm not sure if I'll review one anytime soon although I'm not opposed to the idea.
Seiko Astron is the best in my opinion, rather expensive but what a beauty! I 've a great experience with a Seiko Astron SSH001J1, I also put Citizen and even Casio for the same amount of technology. It's just my opinion. Cheers from Yves in France.
@@yvesleponner9907 Check out the Seiko Astron SSH073 satellite GPS. it's a real beauty. I bought one earlier this year. Yes it is expensive but will last a lifetime with absolute Precision time keeping.
I have a couple of solar watches in my collection. Both are from Citizen. I have the Promaster and the Flieger B Dial. I have the black dial model which is no longer available. Anyway, not only a good review but also packed with info.

My first dive watch is s citizen promaster automatic that I bought in the 90's. Then I bought another citizen divers watch promaster Aqualand eco drive that is more than 18 years old and still going strong. Last year I bought another citizen Promaster Aqualand Eco drive. I prefer my Eco drive divers over my automatic divers watch for accuracy and convenience. I put my eco drive under and LED lamp in our basement when not in use.
Great video man, hard to tell who has the better solar watch. However I do know that Citizen’s core product is the eco drive movement. Therefore that would be the “affordable” recommendation IMHO!!
I enjoyed watching this video. There isn't enough information on this platform on solar watches. I have a citizen chronograph which I bought 25 years ago approx. Granted it did spend a few years tucked away in a drawer until recently but it is still running strong. Love it
Michael Mizzi That’s awesome! Glad your Citizen is still going strong! I have a few videos I’ve done on solar watches. I hope you’ll check them out. Also, I hope you’ll subscribe if you’re not already!
What do you think of Citizen Chronmaster Eco-Drive? It has +-5 seconds per year accuracy. I think it is one of the few "luxury solar dress watch" that is missing in the market niche.
Very useful info! I would like a solar watch too but somehow the women's choices are far less than men's. Do you think most are unisex or do you have recommendations for women?
Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I don't have a lot of knowledge in the women's watch realm but I know Citizen and Seiko make some nice options for women. I would look through their websites and see if anything catches your eye and then maybe try and find it on Amazon for purchase.
Pulsar, Lotus and Alba also have solar watches, but they're all owned by Seiko and presumably use their movements. They are the budget brands compared to Seiko, like Toyota and Lexus. I have a Pulsar solar watch and I'm extremely impressed. All the best.
@@TheTownWatch thanks for replying . I mean seiko astron GPS solar watch’s . They are about between 1000-2000 . I know they are good in General But I just don’t know if they will keep value after years
@@DK007xXx They are quite expensive. I’m sure they are well made high quality watches but if you’re talking about resale value I’m not sure. I would check eBay and see how much they sell for used.
@@DK007xXx I can’t say 100% since I’ve not been able to use or test each brand etc but I think Citizen does a great job with their Eco-Drive technology, I really love my Citizen Promaster Tough (find a review of it on my channel). I also have a few Casio Pro Trek models too which use Casio’s Tough Solar, I found these to be good as well. Please check out videos for these on my channel too!
I have a Casio Solar Powered Wave Ceptor. This watch is very nice and practical. I have owned the watch for approximately 10 years. Unfortunately the case of the watch is made from a composite material and not from metal. The case broke on me just near the place where the wrist band attaches to the case. I have been unable to find a replacement case for the watch anywhere including the manufacturers Casio. I do however manage to fix the wristband in place by using, after many different brands of glues and resins, UHU Super Glue. The wrist band is still in place after using the watch for the past 4 months or so. If Casio made the case out of metal instead of a composite material I would find it very difficult to find a more rugged and serviceable timepiece at a very modest price anywhere. Well done Casio but please manufacture the case in metal.
Solios is another solar brand. Very new company. I haven't tried them myself. I have a Timex, Citizen and Casio solar watch. I love all three and because all three are so affordable, I don't have to pick a favorite. I can have them all. 😁
i dont agree at the "luxory" argument for tissot. tissot is not realy a luxory brand, they have a lot of watches on the 500$ mark. like other brands, tissot have a full spectrum. for a luxory solar powered watch, there is, in my opinion, nothing other then the citizen cal. 0100. its the most acurate wristwatch ever produces, uses all of citizens mastership of great quartz movements and added a highly refined and presice finishing, that puts swiss high end watch companys to a shame.. oh, and the price starts at 10'000$. In terms of variety and reliability, i think, citizen is the king of solar watches, they have a great solar watch on every budget and for every taste and for every needs
Stefan Infanger I agree with you, perhaps we could call Tissot a “semi” luxury brand? I forgot about the Citizen Cal. 0100! This is an amazing piece for sure! Thanks for watching!
@@TheTownWatch your welcome :) btw: i think, you wear one of the greatest solar watches ever in the video.. the promaster tough is such an impressive watch for the price
Goals, functions, design and budget need to be defined first before evaluating "best". Example: Casio Duro overachieved in all goals, design, function and budget by at least 3x. But if a watch company hits the mark perfectly 1x, then it has less value than the 3x overachiever (even if they are in completely different price ranges).
ALBA (by Seiko) makes a solar field watch which I own. I don't know if they have other solar watches. The field watch I own is titanium but I believe it is now only available in stainless steel. The watch is fine, but nothing fancy. The only thing some might find wrong with it is that it has no lume even though the hands are painted so they look like they have lume. 🤷♂️ I just use it for a grab-n-go beater.
Seiko is overpriced... Honestly their straps are bad and the endlinks are crap unless u go for higher tier seiko.... For solar id go for citizen and casio..
Citizen hands down best solar and maybe even value for solar. Orient has a solar chronograph (the neo 70s). I believe they have normal quartz and solar quartz variants.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching man! I forgot to mention Orient in this video but funny you should mention their solar chronograph, I might have one coming to the channel soon!
Great video. Very interesting. No way really to prove which is the best. I do have 2 Eco Drive Pro masters and a Solar Tuna. I would go with Citizen over Seiko with there solar models, basically beacause Citizen gets the QC right, and are much better values. I wouldn’t compare digital watches to analog quartz watches. I also have some solar G-Shock squares.
@@TheTownWatch it is a sub brand of seiko. I bought AEFD557 few years ago. Still working great. This week I bought seiko ssc015p1 on sale online. Alba AEFD557 for everyday use. SSC015p1 for formal wear. Love them both.
@@TheTownWatch I got few collection of watches myself. I love cheap and quality watches. I keep switching watches so automatic is not a good choice for me. Most of the time I use my cheapest watch (Casio quartz F-91W) anywhere I go. Practical and comfortable.
In general a Camry is way better than a Bugatti, unless you want to talk speed Camry is better coz: 1- it has four doors 2- it seats 5 people 3- it has a trunk 4- it's more safe 5- it's more reliable ... ect So you should specify in which way you want to compare them
I have both Solar and Automatic watches , Invicta and Tommy Hilfiger Kenneth Cole Michael Kors and Versace, plus Armani and Fossil.. and cheap ones like Biden and Forsingning and Toing and many more
Orient is a brand of the Seiko Epson Group and they use Seiko movements, which is not a bad thing. I've been drooling 🤤 over their Neo 70 Solar Panda but i already bought 3 watches this month 😓so i'll hold myself while hoping prices don't go up!! 🤞

i have 3 seiko solar watches. the first i bought it 6 years ago. i live in a country where there's little sunlight during the cold season. the watches never ran out of battery. very good price quality from seiko. totally recommend them 👌
I prefer kinetics over solar tbh. I like a bit of mechanical aspect with a rotor. I know kinetics are needy for those with large collection but fortunately my most worn watch is a Seiko AGS. It is old, made in 1988. I bought it pre-owned. The former owner has replaced the capacitor in 2013 so now the new capacitor is 10 years old. When I bought it, it was dead. I recharged it by shaking for few minutes. It run with no problem untill today. I haven't check the power capacity but the new modern capacitor should hold charge for few months at least.
For the record the Camry is a better car. In 20 years time the Camry will still be on the road and the Bugatti simply wont be. Hyper cars are only cool until you start to scrutinize them up close. Shoddy fit and finish and problems are quite common unfortunately. I like Citizen. I have owned a number of Eco Drives. They were/are all good watches! I haven't owned any other companies solar watches so I cant vouch for them.

Has anyone tried Centric watch? Their solar chronograph looks really nice but im not sure how much I trust a brand that launched in 2018
I own both promaster toughs.the H link bracelet and the black cordura strap..and they are accurate as hell..i wear them to work and my job is ALL hands and they stand up to the beating.
They're great watches!
Seiko and Citizen are by far the best ones, but I am biased XD
Also, Coutura watches are INSANE value to money wise (they are Seiko's mid tier, something like between their regular line and Grand Seiko). actually no, I take this back, it's better less people know about them so they won't up their price :P
One of the best videos i’ve ever seen, thank you 👍🏻👊🏻
Los Relojes de Sergio You’re too kind! 😊Thanks for watching! Which solar watch brand do you think is best? Did I miss any?
J. City Reviews 1st citizen 2nd Seiko 3rd casio , and you show me the other brands, now im looking armitron and 111 watches for my collection 🤩🙏🏻
Los Relojes de Sergio Thanks for the feedback! Glad you were introduced to some new brands! I did a review of a 111 watch on my channel if you want to check it out!
Just ordered a seiko solar, pretty excited
Nice! Hope you enjoy!
Great video with interesting information!
Casios Tough Solar works great.
Yes they do
Great video.
I haven't had hands on experience with any Bering watches but I have with many Citizens and they are usually great pieces! Thanks for watching!
Solar watches are just a no brainer lol it’s literally the most accurate and least maintenance-relied watch movements available Forrest.
Yes! Thanks for watching!
Great sum up! I fell in love with solar powered watches after getting a Pro-Master as a gift. My current collection of three (all that I want and more than I need!) is all solars and also what I wear. From less to more formal :
Casio B5600BC G-shock Tough Solar. WR20bar, composite link band, for hard work, sports and outdoor swimming
Citizen AT0361-06E World Time Chrono Eco-Drive. WR10bar, NATO strap, for daily wear, sports and indoor swimming
Seiko SNE525P1 blue dial Solar. WR10 bar, matching blue leather strap, for fancier occasions
If I had to keep only one, It'd be the Citizen as it combines some of the Casio functions (world time, chrono) with the classier look of the Seiko and it reminds me of Kaneda's bike from the Akira comics/anime.
Nice job, Very helpful, Decided on a solar, It's all new to me, Cruising the websites from your list, Thnx
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! Don't hesitate to reach out if I can help!
Just curious, i know a full charge lasts 10 years, but how long does it take to get a full charge? I have a seiko solar
What about bering solar watches ..r they any good
Haven't had one in person but there are probably good. Thanks for watching!
David McKenna Nice! Glad you have a couple Citizen Eco Drives in your collection! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Great video man, hard to tell who has the better solar watch. However I do know that Citizen’s core product is the eco drive movement. Therefore that would be the “affordable” recommendation IMHO!!
SoCal Watch Reviews Thanks for watching my friend! I think Citizen has been the consensus so far! I can’t really argue with that!
Casio definitely. Just the Tough Solar G Shocks and ProTreks alone are awesome.
What do you think of Citizen Chronmaster Eco-Drive? It has +-5 seconds per year accuracy. I think it is one of the few "luxury solar dress watch" that is missing in the market niche.
Thanks for watching! I don’t think I’ve heard of that one! I’ll have to check it out!
@@TheTownWatch thank you!
Nice video..i wonder how much i really need to build my own watch brand???? Whew..
count vertigo Thanks for watching! I have no idea about building your own brand...
Pulsar, Lotus and Alba also have solar watches, but they're all owned by Seiko and presumably use their movements. They are the budget brands compared to Seiko, like Toyota and Lexus. I have a Pulsar solar watch and I'm extremely impressed.
All the best.
Do solar astron gps solar watch hold value?
I’m not sure how you those hold their value. Sorry. Thanks for watching!
@@TheTownWatch thanks ! what’s the best solar gps watch brand and items In your opinion
My first Ctizen Eco Drive watch is now 15 years old and still going without issues.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
What model number?
I have a citizen echo drive watch it’s a very good watch
The second hand is right on each marking your friend eddie
Thanks for watching!
Citizen good in solar watch,. But they really lack of 38-40mm size solar watch, with good lume on it.
Good point! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! Sorry this happened to you! I’m really surprised you couldn’t find a replacement case!
Casio does make solar watches from all metal. The resin watches are lower cost, so you get to choose what you want to pay for.
Nice video😀 Junghans has many solar watches in its collection, too.
Very informative video. Thanks
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Well my Seiko is only a couple years old and is not working my Citizen is 20 years old and going strong!
Thanks for watching and sharing this info!
Wow, what kind model is your Citizen and Seiko?
@@Eckoolt seiko solar and citizen eco drive
@flyfishincrazy Could you please be a bit more generic, if at all possible, that is...
Solios is another solar brand. Very new company. I haven't tried them myself. I have a Timex, Citizen and Casio solar watch. I love all three and because all three are so affordable, I don't have to pick a favorite. I can have them all. 😁
Thanks for sharing that brand. I haven't heard about it. Thanks for watching.
My casio protrek PRG-120. tough solar after 13 years, battery still high level of charge
Awesome! Thanks for sharing and watching!
i dont agree at the "luxory" argument for tissot. tissot is not realy a luxory brand, they have a lot of watches on the 500$ mark. like other brands, tissot have a full spectrum. for a luxory solar powered watch, there is, in my opinion, nothing other then the citizen cal. 0100. its the most acurate wristwatch ever produces, uses all of citizens mastership of great quartz movements and added a highly refined and presice finishing, that puts swiss high end watch companys to a shame.. oh, and the price starts at 10'000$.
Stefan Infanger Thank you! It’s one of my favorite watches! What are you enjoying wearing today?
@@TheTownWatch the same as you ;) is also one of my favorite ;)
Stefan Infanger Nice! 😁
I just use it for a grab-n-go beater.
Seiko is overpriced... Honestly their straps are bad and the endlinks are crap unless u go for higher tier seiko.... For solar id go for citizen and casio..
I hear ya! Thanks for watching!
citzen rules at solar they put a lot time and money in this and that toyota is a mile maker bugat is not ... nice topic !!
Perfect! I have one on my Amazon list and might make it my next purchase! Really enjoy the channel
The Orient Solar Panda is a very good looking chrono but they use Seiko movements.
Thanks for watching! Citizen does a great job! Glad to hear you have a variety of solar pieces in your collection!
What does QC stand for?
@Robert Riva It's short for Quality Control.
Junghans also makes a solar Max BIll, so that's a second luxury watchmaker besides Tissot.
Thanks for watching and pointing that out!
I have both Citizens and Casios in my collection. Both work fine.
Citizen, Casio and the others
I love it when people are stoned and do reviews
MrAlucard1964 😅 Why do you say that? Is it because I’m talking so slow?
J. City Reviews Well yes and you’re eyes.
MrAlucard1964 I can definitely see why you might say this! I think I filmed this one late at night! 😅 Thanks for watching!
J. City Reviews Hey I was stoned watching it. Legal here in WA
MrAlucard1964 Gotcha, I never smoked in my life though.
If you don't have enough money to get seiko, you can get cheaper version under alba brand. But the choice is limited
I haven’t heard of that brand? Where do you buy them? Thanks for watching!
@@MirawanChannel Awesome man! That’s great! There are a lot of great affordable watches out there!
@@TheTownWatch ALBA IS COMPANY UNDER SEIKO GROUP
In general a Camry is way better than a Bugatti, unless you want to talk speed
Camry is better coz:
1- it has four doors
2- it seats 5 people
3- it has a trunk
4- it's more safe
5- it's more reliable
... ect
So you should specify in which way you want to compare them
👍😅
hello thanks for your vidéo,i have an eco-drive since 2014 which is great but heavy
i discovered an other brand with simple and light watches : Solios
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I have both Solar and Automatic watches , Invicta and Tommy Hilfiger Kenneth Cole Michael Kors and Versace, plus Armani and Fossil.. and cheap ones like Biden and Forsingning and Toing and many more
Citizen is more better
You should go only to Casio Seiko citizen .
Thats it .
You forget to mention Orient solar that i recommend to .
H M These are the three best in my opinion! Thanks for watching! Hope you’ll subscribe if you’re not already!
Orient is a brand of the Seiko Epson Group and they use Seiko movements, which is not a bad thing. I've been drooling 🤤 over their Neo 70 Solar Panda but i already bought 3 watches this month 😓so i'll hold myself while hoping prices don't go up!! 🤞
Great vid thank you!

Casio for me and their service dept is really good.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I love Citizen and have reviewed a number of their watches on my channel! Hope you'll check out more or my content!
