- This video displays how the Oak Mountain Acotts harvest firewood poles from their woodlot using micro forestry equipment. They have a Kubota B2601 subcompact tractor and a Kranman ATV logging trailer. Enjoy a typical session in the woods with us as we cut a trailer load of wood!

Good cleanup! I see you got a frozen ground again! So we did yesterday after very warm week here. Whenever I had birch that is not close to be 100% sound, I discard it, as it does tend to develop molds in the wood cord. That is what I found on my side. This year, they end up in the boiler the same day! Lol! That winch on the log trailer is mint! Thanks!
Pretty much frozen again… a few soft spots here and there to watch for. I’ll run that birch through the processor and split it. It will be good to heat the shack at the very least!
I love seeing how you care for your forest! And the fact you take the time to work safely! Well done!
Thanks Rick! Hoping to leave something for the boys that they can enjoy and pull a few dollars from the property when they need too... This is how I unwind from the day job!
Sometimes it’s nice just to get work done! 👍🏻🪵 sights and sounds of the forest! Love it!
Agreed! Something about the sound of logging chains when winching that I really like…
Nice little load you got there!..... I am almost your neighbor!.....near Montreal In Québec !
Not my best load but this area is easily accessible but the wood is not that great in there! Thanks for watching neighbour!
Great winter if u have a spot to work that isn't too wet. Great video Jason.
Thanks Chris. I keep moving around the woodlot working around icy trails and wet, unfrozen ground. Nice cutting temperatures!
In watching your videos, it seems like you handle the logs a lot for just making firewood. Have you considered getting something like a Halverson processor for the front of a tracked skidsteer? Then you could cut/split the logs in the woods directly into IBC totes and save hauling the logs out, stacking them, reloading them on the forwarder, and unloading them onto the processor table?
I’ve seen those in action and they look impressive. Our bottleneck here is currently wood availability. I can’t buy logs (everything is going to the pulp mill) and I don’t want to clear cut my lot. So, we’re just working away. Thanks for watching!
I also have a B2601 with a 3pt winch and an Anderson forwarder, I'm jealous of your krannman forwarder! i guess they won't ship them to Maine due to US equipment certifications, any way good to see another b2601 in the woods! I made a saw scaboard that mounts to the inside of the left load arm base, keeps it in view and out of the way.
Nice! The Kranman is working really well. I was thinking about buying a bigger one to put behind the L4060 but this T1750 will bring out a 1/2 cord per trip... good enough for me!
Thanks Jason, looks like you had a great day managing the wood lot, mix of snow and rain here this evening, muzzleload season starts in the morning.
Hi Mark, that was a pretty good afternoon. Just a few degrees below zero and a little sun! Not much of that lately that's for sure... Good luck tomorrow!
Love seeing a fellow New Brunswicker hard at work in the woods, great video, most of your equipment is on my wish list so I enjoy seeing how it performs in a NB woodlot. Thanks! 🙂
Hi Troy, thanks for watching. Not sure how hard I work but I am pretty consistent at showing up! I would like to see some of these small scale harvesters that they use in Scandinavia in our NB mixed woods to see how they perform.
Jason, it looks like you had a productive day in the woods. The ground looks a lot more firm in your nexk of the woods. We have had an extremely mild winter here in Eastern Ontario. Cheers, Scott.
Thanks Scott, that was a great afternoon for January! There is still a lot of free flowing water and muddy spots out there. Sure is a different Winter for us here in NB but I am able to get out a little. Lucky to have a few different spots that I can cut so I can pick and choose based on trail conditions. Thanks for watching!
be nice to get some cold weather for the woods, i haven't moved the tractor for weeks, nothing but a bog here
I would say the ground here is half frozen? A lot of water in the woods and I dropped a tire in quite a wet spot out there… Thankful for the warmer temperatures in January though!
@@OakMountainAcotts easy on the firewood, but some cold weather be nice…lol
Hey glad to see you back. I was worried a little bit because I know how the winters all are up there in Canada but I hope you and the family had a wonderful holidays and we looking forward to watching you do some more of your little micro forestry stuff I really like watching a Jason.
Hi Tommy, we are having an easy Winter so far this year and taking advantage of it with the woods work! Thanks for tuning in to our little channel and Happy New Year!
Glad to see you can get to the woods. Here in my area in Nova Scotia it’s terrible soft. All I can do is cut bushes along the woods roads. Ps. Cut those bushes low and flat or you will regret it later.
Thanks Laurie! Quite a difference between this year and last year so far.... I hate to pile my brush up in the woods but it is a trade off sometimes for me... my wood is small so I try to make a little production when I am in there too! Take care, Jason.
😁👍
Hope you enjoyed the video!
Hey . I noticed that you use Fiskars tools . Fiskars make's a good axes , but do you have Husqvarna ax ? It's a good tool also .
I haven’t tried a Husqvarna axe yet. They have a lot of stuff that I would like to try out though… just got to work it into the budget!
Hey Jason.
I am over in PEI and have the exact same set up as you. I also use to haul mine with a four wheeler and now have the 2610. How did you switch from the power pack to the tractor hydraulics. Was there a conversion kit or did you do it on your own ?? Thanks. Love the videos
Hi Jon, good to hear from you. It was a bit of an exercise to switch over. My brother in law is an excellent mechanic and took the lead for me. We cut the hydraulic holder off of the power pack hydraulic tank and built a frame on the rops of the tractor to weld it to. He also made another support to hold the trailer drive controls which we bolted to the ROPS. I believe we had to get a few new hydraulic lines made up as well… I can send you some pictures if it would help you.
That’s great Jason. Honestly I can figure out the fab work. It’s the cabling that ya had to change that is melting my brain.
do you tag the trees to be cut or does a forester help you out?
I do all of my flagging:

Thanks for watching!

Hi Doug, we are near Woodstock. Did you happen to know Earle and Sylvia Blackie?

Will ask my aunt
I thought you might be related. They grew up here and had a century farm in Oak Mountain. Both are gone now but they had a huge extended family with lots of relatives visiting every Summer from all over.
