Oak Mountain Acotts
Canada
Приєднався 28 лис 2020
The Oak Mountain Acotts are living the dream on a 500-acre woodlot in New Brunswick, Canada. After purchasing an abandoned homestead in 1996, we have continuously worked to bring the property back to a productive state focusing on woodlot and forestry management and making the most of the natural resources available to us.

We experienced a storm in December that may qualify as the storm of the decade. With 1/3 of the province losing power and the department of transportation moving trees from roads with snow plows and loaders, the damage to our forest in Oak Mountain is considerable. We are using the Kubota 4060 Grand L tractor, the Kubota B2601 and the Kranman hydraulic timber trailer to start the clean up proce...
Hardwood Revenue as a Commodity vs Value Added Firewood - How Much Do We Earn? -E196
Переглядів 13 тис.11 місяців тому
In this video, we thought that we would break down our hourly pay from our hardwood operations. Does it make sense to spend our time cutting and selling to the mill or should we value add the hardwood into firewood right here on the property and sell it? We are using the Kubota B2601 and the Kranman T1750 hydraulic timber trailer to yard some wood today while we run the numbers! Important Note:...

Delivering a Load of Firewood and a Story Of A Country Boy in the City with his Toyota Tundra -E176
You edited the video(added a banner) to say you can combine the yellow and red wires together and use a standard switch and still have the light color options? But how would that work? Do they change color every time they go off and on? I guess the AuxBeam switch isnt smart after all!
Basically you set the lights on the function you want with the controller then hardwire. That function stays in “memory” after that….
Led are better
LED is the way to go…
Great review of the EzzDoo! I’m sold.
Still working great!
Why not eny snow chain in the wheel. In Scandinavia every one use that in the forest, even in the summer.
I take my tractor on a paved road routinely. Would they cause damage?
Your camera girl does an excellent job!
Thank you!
Have been using this Fiskars Sappie for 1 season now, I really regret that I didn't discover this 15 years ago, a real back saver! So useful, nice to see your woodworking process, greetings from the Netherlands
I love mine and use it every time I run the processor. Thanks for watching!
More informative than a thousand other.. 'Quick Fell...Quick Buck' UA-cam videos on forestry management... woodlands deserve care and respect...Great providers, cruel punishers👍
You can never let your guard down, that’s for sure!
I don't remember if you have frame steering on your Kranman. If you steer it out towards the stuff you are loading and raise it up so it lifts the tractor a tiny bit it will shake much less. You could also install a bar with pad to rest your forearms on, that will make the movements much more stable when using the controls.
This trailer is a little small for the 40 hp. I think some stabilizer pads or a drop hitch on the tractor would fix the issue to ensure the stabilizers are taking the bulk of the trailer weight when loading.
I am looking at power stations like blueyetty. What wiring did you use for the Vevor. I guess I am asking what I need to do / get to install the AC plug?. There are + and - vires. What kit will I need to get? We plan to use the heater for heating up the plane engine in the winter. I want power station because it can also recharge plane battery when not flown often enough
I bought a 110 AC to 12 volt DC transformer power supply from Amazon for about $30 and an AC power cord pig tail to wire into it. This allowed me to plug the heater into an AC outlet on the Bluetti
Henxlco 12v 15 amp to 110 AC is what I used
The rakers ground as well would probably speed things up a bit more.
I usually take them down a little….
Doesn't seem like the best location to be standing while operating the winch, are you able to stand behind the guard and run it?
Worth a shot!
How many of these trees can be brought at a time?
I could probably bring 8 or so…
Great video, thank you for the direct straight forward review.
Glad you liked it!
Wrap the exhaust pipe with Header/exhaust wrap like they use on motorcycles with open pipes. It won't make it so you can touch the pipes but it protects from a lot of heat transfer!
Good idea. Thanks!
The hot exhaust is helping to heat the space.
Hi, any chance you can confirm outside dimensions of your Kubota with tracks on? I want to make sure mine will fit into sea can with them on.
Hi, I traded my unit on a new tractor. From memory, you can take the review width and add 4” ?
For me, processing 2 cords a year for home use, the sawbuck wins out. For commercial firewood processing, it’s very different.
Thanks, the saw buck certainly has its’ place.
Hi nice videos I'm wanting to buy land in New brunswick and then a bigger tractor I could road from my folks to that land and a log trailer I'm thinking 70 hp size as I already have a 40 hp kubota great machine lacks road gears though Any info on your log trailer and modification serviceability would be appreciated
Hi, reach out to Hant’s equipment in Nova Scotia. They carry the Kranman’s and Farma I believe. They recommended a T5000 Kranman to me for my 4060. The one I have now is really for an ATV or a 20hp tractor. For a 70hp machine, I would look at Farma’s personally. Hope this helps.
Hi perfect thanks
Great add on. Where do you get the kit for the tracks...
I bought everything through the Kubota dealer
Not a bad idea Jason, with the corduroy or 'puncheon' road - the subgrade fill over top of your corduroy is full of organics, which will take longer to dry out and 'set up' and will always be soft when wet. If you can, try a 'downhole' borrow pit with the hoe, ie. get down below that organics layer into some better mineral soil or sand/gravel till. Then when your done with the pit, you can backfill it with stumps/etc. And, try and save out the rocks to armour the culverts!
It turned into a pretty good road. Hard to find gravel here unfortunately… ledge seems to be just 2’ down!
Nice project! Also have a dog excited about SxS and snowmachines
Thank you. Man, they get crazy for a run!
Hey Jason, Im a Forester from UNB, have a woodlot in Truro. For the hardwood (maple, birch) you want to keep spacing tight, (not like the fir/spruce), since if its open grown, it will limb out towards light and develop more crooks. Keeping spacing tight trains the trees to grow straighter with better form since they wont naturally.
Hi Jamie, what would be a good spacing limit for 4" to 10" hardwoods? Thanks, Jason
@@OakMountainAcotts Hey Jason, I should have clarified that when the trees are immature/saplings, its best to keep spacing tight, as it creates competition in the crown, so that they will grow straighter/taller and not bush out to the sides. As they get more mature, like on your lot, you can open up the crowns, but remember if you allow too big a crown gap, deciduous trees will grow towards it, (as in their whole crown will extend in that direction), creating crooked stems, unlike coniferous trees (fir & spruce), which may bush out their foliage in a canopy gap, but the single leader will still continue its growth straight up. So, what you did in the recent video harvesting the poorer quality mature tree is fine, since its stem or bole likely is almost fully developed so it may not develop poor quality crooks, but its all about crown spacing and anticipating how the remaining trees will respond to the new canopy gap. Its exactly what I do on my lot!
@jamiealguire7190 Excellent. Thanks for the added info!
Very disappointed in my last two purchases with the AC-70 and the AC-180 unit neither of these units have WI-FI connection, only bluetooth, what a foolish way to lose future buyers, today in 2024 and this company does not provide the most basic of connectivity, a disgrace.
Sorry to hear that...
You may want to add something on the end of the stabilizers too make up the hight difference or make a drop style hitch for on the tractor
Yes, that is what I need. About 3” thick stabilizer pads would do the trick!
Over a year ago but you may want to just hook up the heater to dc power from bluetti 12v and skip the separate AC/DC converter. Bluetti dc is more efficient and no loss using bluetti dc/ac converter and should be able to handle initial current spike. Just keep bluetti plugged in to ac.
Hi, the Bluetti dc rating was lower than the heater requirements. I decided not to risk it and set it up for AC… thanks!
Hi, Had couple questions on auxbeam led lights install. Where did you get pig tail. Was it compatable with existing kubota wire harness. Did you use the expensive kubota toggle switch?
I had spare toggles in machine wired from factory. I cut Kubota pigtails off and installed generic ones on both sides from automotive supply store.
Wouldnt it be better just to get a dreml as you can use it for other things? Or can this unit act as a dreml.tool as well being able tonattach dreml bits? Im just wondering which unit would be better to buy
I think a dremel would work. I use Oregon bits
As long as it's fun and give's money I counted it as profitable, I doing the same and thogether with the normal dayjob you have bit of extra cash than other people to spend 🙂 Normally people don't get money from their hobbie's 🙂
Agreed. I like getting the exercise and improving my woodlot.
Great job, great saw.
Still going strong!
Jasson, that's amazing! I think you're onto something here. Though sawdust and chips mixed with wax works good I think your wafer is extremely innovative. Is it a proprietary process or will you be doing a how to on the wafers? Cheers 👍TCT
Works like a charm… still fine tuning!
Looks like a winner ! Can’t wait to try it.
They are dandies…
I've made these before with a circular cotton make up remover and some melted paraffin wax. They work great.
They sure do!
Where did you get the cart or what brand is it
What about higher altitude how would this affect/effect power draw off battery?
I’m not sure about that… sorry!
Great video. I use those 2 n 1 sharpeners and they seem to work ok but takes a while with a 24-25" bar and lately my hands start cramping about 1/3 of the way through it, not a huge deal but any time you can find something thats faster and works well is a plus. Ive seen these popping up on several videos and they all say they work well.
I get good results with mine. I run the oregon bits in it which I prefer. From time to time I'll file by hand but generally, this sharpener does the trick. Hand filing does seem to cramp my hands too!
The roof of your truck looks much better now, lol. I hate parking garages
That sure was a tight spot… I have Montreal figured out now!
So glad you are back. Waiting for your father and Karen in a video or two. 💐
Me too!
GREETINGS JASON/KAREN, LEE HERE, GREAT LOOKING JOB ON THE ROAD AND YOU DID IT WITHOUT A THUMB ON THE HOE. I SEE YOUR UP TO OVER 22 THOUSAND SUBSRIBERS, YOUR REALLY MOVING NOW. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY KEEP WELL, LATER
Thanks Lee, a thumb would have really helped!
Nice work Jason, I cleared 90% of our property with an old international backhoe, watching from the Paul Bunyan show in Cambridge, Ohio👍🇺🇸
Awesome! Lots of firewood hounds there I bet!
Nice job 👍
Super highway!
The old back hoe sure is handy.
We have done a lot of work with it here since 2008 when we bought it. Most of our woods roads were built with it!
So peaceful to be in the woods! When you go that far in the woods, you have to make sure you brought everything! Whatever implement I have for snow work, I like to paint it a dark color for visibility. Especially at night, everything seems to fall within clear white to gray shades... That is my 2 cents! Thanks!
I added some reflective tape to it this week. I went with a light colour so that it wouldn’t heat up and melt into the yard if I didn’t get a board under it when I come back from dragging!
Could you tow the delivery trailer alongside the processor and then load it onto the processor?
Yes, we actually did that with future loads.
Re straightening the board, “ the enemy of good is better”…
10-4… thanks for watching!
I’ll definitely check out Grampie’s workshop. Thanks!
His channel is still going!
Ahh, I just can't get over snowblowing in reverse... Nice tractor!
It actually isn't too bad. The seat will turn 30 degrees to the left or right. I turn it to the right and then run the tractor speed with my left foot... it is pretty comfy and I do not get any neck strain...
@@OakMountainAcotts I could imagine doing that in an area that was relatively straight and flat. Where I live we have steep hills and twisty driveways and roads so I don't think it would work. It's too bad because the set up looks great!
Good job That wood will make some good syrup.
It sure will!
Good to see you make making videos
Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate you watching them!
Have you tried tying the end of a few slabs together so you are cutting more than one at a time when the end is close just pull the slip knot loose.
Nope not yet… might work good. Dad claims using a saw buck at the pile is the way to go… may have to try that next!
Good job nice video.
Thanks for watching!
GREETINGS JASON/KAREN, LEE HERE, I REALLY ENJOY YOUR SHARING WHAT YOU HAVE. 2 KMS BACK IN THE WOODS SURE WOULD BE PEACEFUL AND QUIET, JUST THE BIRDS DOING THEIR THING. EVER COME ACROSS ANY BEARS OR MOOSE WHEN YOUR THERE? IT USED TO BE LIKE THAT HERE IN MOUNT UNIACKE WHEN I WAS YOUNG, A LOT CHANGES IN 60 YEARS. NOW WITH THE 101 HWY WE ARE LESS THE 1/2 HOUR FROM BEDFORD AND AREA IS BEING BUILT UP IN SUBDIVISIONS. WE ARE LOSING ALL OF OUR COUNTRYNESS. KEEP ENJOYING WHAT YOU HAVE, ITS PRICELESS! YOU AND YOUR FAMILY KEEP WELL, LATER
Hi Lee, we are pretty lucky. Lots of wildlife here. I’ll share some trail camera pictures on some future videos!
