Matt, my 86 year old mother fell and broke her hip. The replacement got infected, so they removed it and left her unable to walk. She stayed in a bed for 2.5 years until she had enough and stopped eating and drinking. Thankfully she had dementia so maybe she didn't know how difficult it was. I have always stayed fit. I love your take on moving and getting strong. I try to watch a little 'Matt' every day for inspiration.

My Grandfather was 96 and still going up on the roof to repair it. Still driving, going fishing, living alone, doing great. I asked him his secret to youth. He said if you stop doing something you lose the ability to do it. My reason for following your channel. I thought I was doing good til one day I couldn't get off the floor without my hands. Looked on utube, found you, 2 months later I am doing Asian squats and can easily rise from the floor and climb ladders and stairs. Thank you so much. I plan to continue to absorb your wisdom. Keep up the good work, you are my mentor.

There’s nothing sadder than watching/caring for a relative who didn’t do anything to maintain their mobility as they age. Their world becomes so small and they become so sad and angry.
Health and fitness has always been part of my life but as I get older, I accept that I need to modify my activities. Staying active is what allows me to travel, hike, explore and just enjoy life even if I have occasional aches and pains.
    Thanks for another excellent video.

My mom didn’t become sad and angry. She just sort of accepted her fate. But I understood all along something she did not: that she was imprisoned in prison bars of her own making. These were the prison bars in her own mind of her erroneous thoughts and beliefs. I don’t know how many times I heard her say “You’re supposed to get arthritis when you ‘get old’.”
These can keep a person in prison far more effectively than steel bars forged to incarcerate.

I am 57 and was in a doz. car accidents in my teens and twenties. There have been numerous times I felt like giving up and going down the bigpharma/surgery path. Luckily I found a great osteopath and a personal trainer who literally “have my back”😂. I have always put my socks on standing up, I can still get on my horse from the ground, and carry a 45lb backpack for 8 days in the high country of Olympic National Park. I work on my core stability and balance in weight training a minimum of 2-3 x per week. I ❤your videos!

Yesterday, I had the worst day of my life. I went to the funeral home and viewed my mom laying there in a casket for the last time of my life.
I fully support what you say, because a few years ago my mom was walking, driving a car, and she was free to live.
Then it began. Arthritis pains in her hands and joints. Minor pains, but arthritis, nevertheless. Well, those insignificant pains increased and increased over the past four or five years, till she ended up walking on a walker for support (all bent over) to the point where five weeks ago she COULD NOT EVEN STAND OR WALK TWO OR THREE INCHES FROM HER RECLINER TO HER POTTY CHAIR. And yes, her doctor had her on a ton of those prescriptions that you mentioned. I call it “the medical merry-go-round!”
Then after that came a hospital stay and then a nursing home for a couple days, then she was called away out of her earthly body.
And I had to live through the heart-wrenching pain of watching her slowly decline over the past four or five years. I wouldn’t wish any of this on my worst enemy!
All I can say is if you get minor aches and pains, you better NOT think of them as minor or innocuous! That’s a clever LIE! They are death in disguise come knocking! The moment they come you had better totally devote yourself to ridding your body of INFLAMMATION!!!

I’m 55 and 4’11”. I have become my 77year old 5’7” husband’s caregiver since his cancer diagnosis. He is tolerating chemo well because he was strong and healthy and active. He has lost a lot of weight and muscle and strength, but had he not been a “young” 77y/o, he’d be dead. Also, I realized how important my own strength and activity and balance have been as a caregiver. Thank you for these tips!

Man, nothing more hurtful, than watching people you love suffer & die. My deepest condolences to you. I get that. I try to encourage people around me to get moving, but it mostly falls on deaf ears.
I'm 69 and fully engaged in the battle for old age survival. My main weapon is strength training, but this channel has really helped me to think outside the box.
I'm in decent shape, but there's always room to improve, and balance & VO2 max are 2 areas I need to address a bit more thoroughly.

I’m 62 and finally retired from my “regular” job with the time and financial means (thanks regular job) to do what I truly love to do > SAILING - as in cruising, racing and teaching. And I want to do this actively for as long as possible. I worked a desk job for over 32 years and now it’s time to reverse the sedative habits and results to go “live my best life” (my 28 year old daughter says that’s what doing, whatever that means 😂).

Thank you so much for this. I've done eldercare for 15 years now and have lost much strength and endurance! Also seeing the painful deterioration of so many elders and the medical Pill popping industry they subscribe to is sad. We need to shift the concept of aging from accepted deterioration to ever improving and hopeful enthusiasm through exercise and other practices. I currently see a 98yo Welsh woman who still lives alone, does her Pt exercises, cooks & bakes. My Dad was in the gym in his 80's. I am hopeful that lifelong patterns can be improved at any age if we are WILLING. Thanks so much!

I would like to thank you for this video. I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Iam still mobile and I try to do physiotherapist recommended excercises at home but..i have fatigue everyday and have balance issuesthat cause me to stumble a lot and sometimes fall. I have an injury to my right leg which was due to a bad fall and the 'tendon' infront of my shin tore andnmy physiotherapist thinks i might have chiped the bone and the tendon joined onto the bone as it was healing. But....i have now found you and im going to try to fo the excercises that you have recommended for balance.
Thank you for giving me a booster for doing excercises and showing people how to do them while in the kitchen, bathroom etc..
Believe me i just started doing some squats before going to bed. btw, the laying on your side and getting hip pain excercise video led me here😊
    Once again Thank You😊

One important thing I learned since 2020 is to listen to my body when it wants to do the kind of stuff that would have gotten me weird looks in public back then. Getting up off my office chair and stretching is OK; using time waiting in a line or for the microwave or whatever to do some stretching or squats is OK.
Some of the exercises you advise fall into the things my body asks for. And doing them - is OK!

If I'm standing anywhere waiting on something, I'm moving. If I'm in the kitchen getting my coffee ready, it may be a pre-walk warmup. If I'm shopping, it's usually to relieve my stiff, sore hip. Same with doing dishes. Take advantage of that time, folks!

I'm 63 years old and my work has me climbing ladders and scaffold up to 35 feet above the ground. Other times I'm on stilts up to 42 inches tall. Maintaining my balance is very important to me and I have done exercises for that purpose since my late 20s. As I approach retirement age I'm turning down some jobs because of dangerous climbing situations. I Still want to maintain my balance after I retire so I can stand up in a canoe to cast a dry fly.

My motivation for improving my balance is to regain the vibrant strength and agility. I used to have before my hip and my ankle replacement this year. I had practiced martial arts for decades, and I still do, and being unable to do things I used to consider basics Really irks me. I am a boy when I can walk up the stairs without touching the walls. I still have to focus on it, but it’s a good improvement. The exercises you show are easy to incorporate into my daily routine, and I will set out posted. Notes to remind myself to do them! I have seen the enemy and the enemy is the chair.
As much as I adore relaxing in my chair, the key to growing old gracefully, apparently, is to keep moving.
Balance & movement go hand in hand like ying and yang.
What continues to baffle me is, I'm stiff everywhere.
    Im 75.

I’m an observant person. One thing I’ve observed about “age,” or the illusion of it: There are definitely millions of people who are elderly who are in nursing homes, wasting away, vegetating.
Yet here is a conundrum: If you search UA-cam you can find dozens of videos of other people who are “elderly” chronologically speaking, yet they are in gyms working out and doing things you’re supposed to only do in your twenties!
I saw one lady, I think she was over a HUNDRED YEARS OLD, and she was doing gymnastics like a young teen!
So why aren’t the second group in the nursing home along with the first group?? If you are “SUPPOSED” to get diseases and infirmity as you (cough, choke, sputter) “grow old,” then why do some people get skipped over? Are they just (cough, choke, sputter, again) “LUCKY?”
I really don’t need to answer that, because I suspect we all know the answer.

Mum passed away at 86 and although she was born about the same time as dad she didn't smoke and walked to work and back home every weekday, so about 40 mins of walking on most days, so I guess that benefitted her with longevity.

Does that makes sense?

You could say something less harsh than “OLD PEOPLE” 😂
I happen to be one of those “Old people” ❤. But I am seriously tired of people saying that. Senior was rough but it’s more gentle than “Old People” 😂🤣

At age 60, three years ago, I bought and started riding a Honda VT400C for the reason of challenge, both physically and mentally.
One of the best things I’ve done.

Love your channel. Thank you! Would you like to increase your audience? Osteoporosis is on the rise and Australia (Belinda Beck) is the only country with evidence based research on what type of exercise actually builds bone. Their method, Onero, is available in only 1 location in the Western Hemisphere in NJ. I call it LBJ… Lift, Balance, Jump. Please consider looking into it. Women, especially, are starving for guidance and expertise. You could be a pioneer. ❤

Without balance, you lose movement, and strength. You fall down and hit your head. I have seen it.

So ballet? Cause that thumbnail is kind of a ballet pose. 💗 I'm so sorry about your parents.❤😢💞 🤸‍♀️📌You have to choose between your liver and your kidneys. Medications get one or the other.
