UPDATE RE: Dolby Vision HDR Video on iPhone 12/12 Pro
The workflow is only working effectively if you go from videos on your Camera Roll to iMovie and then publish content at the moment. I tried posting to Instagram, and it can't handle the video file leaving it extremely overexposed. Twitter processes a standard version of the video, but not HDR. I'm not sure about other platforms yet. People are also having issues going from iPhone to iMovie to convert the videos, and then to Final Cut Pro.
Adobe Premiere used a slightly more exposed version of the videos I took, but they weren't the HDR versions of the videos.
It's still ahead of its time. We'll have to wait for third-party apps to figure this all out and it might cause you more headaches than you anticipate right now. You might want to turn off 'HDR Video' in Settings - Camera - Record Video and then Toggle 'HDR Video' OFF.
The iPhone 12 Pro is a worthy upgrade for Apple users unless you own an iPhone 11 Pro. It brings features you can't fully take advantage of yet like 5G, the new LiDAR sensor, and even Dolby Vision HDR can be tricky to use out of the gates. It's an iPhone for the future, but you'll have to wait for it to get here.

I've had my 12 pro for a few days now, and boi do I not regret getting it. I upgraded from a 7 plus so it was quite an upgrade. Wireless charging is great, I hate cables, magsafe made it even better. And I'm so impressed with the battery life, compared to what my 7 plus was like at the end. I could barely get through the day, now I can get through two days no problem with regular use. I love the new design, I like how it feels when I hold it and it looks amazing. The camera is great, tested it outside in the dark and I'm SO impressed. I like the size, I didn't want anything bigger than my 7 plus so the pro max was out of the question for me. It was time for me to upgrade and I think I made the right choice.
You had a 7 plus so this is a big upgrade for you, Congrats, but for those who have an 11 Pro max, don’t do it, you will regret it.
@@studivan Oh, absolutely. I'm not the kind of person that upgrades their phone that often anyway, my wallet would hate me. Going from the 11 pro to the 12 pro doesn't really seem worth it, unless you're absolutely bonkers for magsafe.
What color did you end up going with?
I had the Midnight Green last year, and I ended up getting bored with it. I had thought I’d go grey this year, but the Pacific Blue just looked great. I’m hoping I don’t get bored of this too, and wondering if I should have gone grey instead.
@@Blackbeard0791 I went with the pacific blue! I'm usually the type to go with a grey or black, but since blue is my favorite color and it's not a very bold color, i went for it. I prefer muted colors for tech if I do stray away from greys and black. The pacific blue is gorgeous, and I don't regret getting it over graphite.

I’m upgrading from an iPhone 6s Plus I got 5 years ago! The rear camera is messed up and the battery has deteriorated a lot. When I’ve handled friends and family members iPhones that were released in the past couple of years, my phone feels so ancient! My new iPhone 12 Pro is going to feel like an immense upgrade!

@@PdaZona I’m the kind of guy that enjoys a heavier device. The 12 feels as light as a feather. 12 Pro feels properly weighted, I loved the weight. If you like a lighter phone you’ll love the 12
Coming from a 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro, I'm honestly in love with the design. I know the Pro Max is larger and heavier but being able to actually grip the squared off sides vs the rounded edges just makes it easier all around.
I’m keeping my 11 pro max for a while.

Upgrading from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 12 pro for me. I don’t like the idea that Apple isn’t gonna give the faster charging adapter with this phone. It’s like I got penalized for not having the 11 where it gave you the better adapter.

That’s the main reason why I always go iphones.. android phones just aren’t anywhere near as optimized as apples iPhones. They will rarely lag software wise like it will on an android

I was toying around with portrait mode photo on irregular shaped objects like plants and it really performs better with lidar. I believe it helps with identifying the distance between objects and knowing where to focus while blurring out things further back
I love my 12 pro, I upgraded from the X finally and what a difference. Much faster, smoother, sound quality is amazing(I now only have to have my volume at 50%, on the X I had to have it at 100%. The battery life is much improved, just hope that lasts. The camera quality front and back is fantastic. Very happy with my purchase.

@@nicolecastaneda9316 It all depends on usage though. For me, I use it a lot including gaming. It won’t lasts the whole day if you’re talking bout 12 hours. So prepare a power bank in bag.

For me, it can lasts more than 12 hours on weekdays as working and can’t use much except for gaming during lunch hour and whatsapp during working hours.
It really depends on the screen time though. Hard to gauge... :)

Just upgraded from the regular iPhone 11 to the 12 pro on Saturday so I’ve had a few days to mess with it. Didn’t need to upgrade necessarily, but I wanted the OLED screen and the extra camera so went with the pro model.
6.7 inches on the Max is just way too big and 6.1 inches isn’t by any means small. That’s one of the reasons I loved the 11 last year was because the 6.1 inch screen seemed just the perfect size. This thing is smooth and so crazy fast, and it feels amazing in the hand. I actually like the flat edges feel over the rounded edges. No complaints at all so far. Let my wife have the Pacific Blue and I went with the Graphite as our Verizon store only had one of each left and I’m partial to the grey and black colors, anyways.
Finally a legit honest review with proof side by side. I have the 11 pro max and I don’t see that much of a difference to upgrade to the 12 pro

I’m in love with the design of the 12 Pro, especially in that pacific blue color. But the 12 Pro is far too close to the 11 Pro for me to see a need to upgrade. I live my 11 Pro. I’ll get next year’s iPhone with (hopefully) ProMotion.

I am into cameras so the better cameras and extra night modes is huge to me. I spend a ton on lenses and other stuff so selling my 11 Pro and upgrading to the 12 Pro Max is a negligible cost. I want a clear case, just not their clear case.
Thank you for being the first review that has raised the comfort issues of this new flat edge redesign. It’s not a good move in a 6.1 inch or larger phone. Keep in mind people liked that design on the iPhone 4 and 5 because they were much smaller devices. A 6.1 inch phone with flat edges is not comfortable to hold. I’ve had mine for a week and am returning it for a mini.

Confortability really depends on how you hold it for me. If I hold it with my pinky finger on the lighting port it’s quite uncomfortable but if you hold it with all your fingers on the site (normally gripping it) it’s insanely comfortable. I came from the XS Max and I love the smaller size

Part of the appeal for an iPhone is that it has a fair number of update cycles, but one or more could be used on waiting for 5G before that feature can be fully utilized. Not sure what to make of that. No power adapter is a drag. Apple wants to help the environment and save on packaging by forcing those of us who don't have a USB-C to spend more money on... more packaging.

After replacing the 11 Pro with the 12 Pro for half a week, I can say the design is an upgrade, the cameras are an upgrade (night mode on all cameras is great), UA-cam not crashing all the time is an upgrade, but the battery life is a downgrade, even with 5G turned off.
I have not noticed a battery issue. I have dual sim so my 5 G is off automatically but I’m getting close to 7 hours screen on time

Kamayan feasts are the best! It is also called a "Boodle fight." I love my iPhone 12 Pro over my iPhone 11 Pro. My iPhone 11 was 256GB. I noticed I don't use that much device storage since I like to send photos and other cloud-capable items to iCloud. Now I have 128GB to save some cash.
I live in Whittier/Ontario, Cali. I have my 5G on Auto. I noticed the battery go down while using Waze and plugged into my car charger. I bought a USB-C PD car charger from Amazon last night that should fix this problem.

You're doing a good job on these reviews. I agree completely that there's little reason to upgrade from one year to the next, but I have a much older iPhone so this year's model will be a great upgrade for me. Although I still haven't decided *which* of these iPhones to get!
I used to get a new phone every 3 to 6 months, this year I’m sticking to my 11 pro max, the 12 is a weak upgrade, hardly any real difference. The phone market has matured to the point its not worth upgrading after every new release.

I am using 11 Pro max and i see significant worst battery performance since iOS14 and don’t get me started or wrong caller ID showing up specially on WhatsApp or Viber calls! An annoying experience!

@@davidgraham8386 with the 800 trade in for my X was a no brainer. Basically upgrading for free. On top of that my X was a BOGO promo during that time.
I have a XS Max and I’m definitely upgrading. I’m leaning towards the 12 Pro because I need a smaller and more portable phone now. The Max phones are just getting too big, bulky, and heavy.
@@Fullblown671 the most compelling reason to get the iPhone 12 pro was really the x55 modem, 6gb of ram, and a14 bionic chip. I’m someone that really loves fast phones (no brainer right?) and although the note 20 ultra’s SG 865+ chip was compelling just a little bit, the benchmarks fully converted me from android to iPhone this time around.
I use my 6sPlus. It’s still going strong, will survive until next two years.
Sticking with my 11 pro max until the next iPhone gets pro motion

Completely agree with every point you made! I am a loyal annual upgraded and I had the 11 pro. I didn’t think the 12 pro was that much better than the 12, so I went with the 12. Have to say, after a week with 12, I think I’m returning it. It’s a great phone, but no meaningful upgrade from the 11 pro. Kind of disappointed.

Recently upgraded from a X to 12. For sure we can use the old 5W brick but Apple should’ve included the 20W brick for the next to iPhones at least. Haven’t used the brick for the last 3 years thanks to wireless charging and have a 3rd party adapter to charge my iPad and iPhone when needing the faster speed.

Not only a great review, I also respect your honesty. If you have the 11 Pro the 12 Pro is not much of a difference. I went from the 8+ candy red to 11 Pro Max space gray. I like OLED and the wide-angle camera but I miss touch ID and Candy Product Red. Face ID is like a fair-weather friend, sometimes it knows me and other days have no clue who I am. So I definitely agree that if you have an 8 or 8+, still good battery life, like touch ID, and on a budget, then stay you're not missing that much.

Thanks BT for another excellent video....I’m getting the 12pro in blue. Went and checked it out at the store near me and the square form factor was actually more comfortable to me because the edges made it feel more secure in my hand. My 6s and my X always felt like it was going to fall out unless i had a cover on them because of the smooth rounded edges...looking forward to getting the 12pro in a week or so....peace ✌🏼

I still use and like the iphone 6s plus inspite of the upgrades coming all these years. It has a sleek thin design and has a button at the bottom, to get the feel. It has large screen, the camera is good, has long life battery. I do like the iphone12 pro max, due to similar large screen size , the new pacific blue color and the 5G network, but you need to ask yourself a question, DO YOU REALLY NEED THE UPGRADE against your previous upgrade by spending 1000$ if the previous one is pretty good enough ? Upgrades always come in future years be it a smartphone, TV or a car. If you really need the upgrade then ONLY one should consider buying it. I am surprised the iphone 12 or iphone 12 pro does not come with ear pods or a charger. But nevertheless if one really needs an upgrade then should go for it, otherwise previous upgrades are also quite good.
I have a iPhone 11, I went to play with the 12 and 12pro at the att store and was impressed. The speed and colors were awesome. The fit in my hands nice. But I’ll wait for the next one when 5g is prevalent

Just use whatever you used to charge your previous iPhone. Wireless Charing, usb a brick and cable or usbc brick (if coming from android or iPad Pro or 11pro). Most people don’t need to spend any money. People need to stop thinking they always need to replace stuff every year - keep using your old stuff. Be that the charger and cable or the iPhone etc
I have an 11 Pro and I like the 12 Pro quite a bit better. Low-high photos are MUCH better and the way the phone feels in your hand I like too. The screen also seem easier to read outside in. sunlight. Face ID also works better with sunglasses.
