I’m doing exactly the same. The 7 plus was an awesome phone! Hasn’t left my side since the day it came out and was eventually in my hands! Going to be sad to retire it.
I honestly believe the 7 to be one of the most perfect iPhones ever made. It’s A10 processor and refined body initially seemed underwhelming at the time, but almost half decade later, look at all the people who are still running it with their 1st gen AirPods.
And once again ... my hometown youtuber is Killing it ! For the reviews I always wait for MKBHD. But when it comes to information and actually making a decision... there is no one doing it better than Rene ! Simple, precise,informative. @@Richard_Barnes maybe but if I’m being honest I seen a lot of early pro Max camera test so far aren’t overly impressive (over the 12/12pro) obviously the iPhone pics and video are downright amazing but like Rene mentioned I think for the Pro models Apple need to upgrade the optical zoom for the telephoto camera. But I’m very satisfied with my 12

Rene, I enjoy your videos and reviews! Thank you for pointing out that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is really not much bigger than the iPhone 11Pro Max. In fact the difference in size is minuscule.. I’m so tired of people saying, “Oh this thing is HUGE”!” It’s not! The other thing I want to point out is that many iPhone users (regardless of phone size or model) are TWO HANDED USERS. I have owned every iPhone model since the iPhone 3G.... I have never used a single hand to operate my iPhone. There are lots, and I mean LOTS of two handed users... it’s something I take note of when watching other people use their phones.

@@lavontelorick7659 512 is a lot... And if you’re taking that many photos/videos you should be familiar with external drives...I’d say get 256gb and save that $200, and later buy a $100 500gb SSD for photos/videos boom 756gb of storage and $100 saved
@@lavontelorick7659 Depends if you're transferring videos onto your phone from your cameras. I have a GoPro and Insta360, and the videos are 4k, so they tend to be around 30gb every time I download them to my phone.

I absolutely LOVE my iPhone 12 Pro Max, best phone I’ve ever had! My only complaint is it’s so heavy! Laying in bed looking at it, you get nervous.. You know if it falls and smacks your face, you’re either getting a blackeye or a bloody nose..
Every year I hear tech reviewer talk about one handed functionality but at a pro max and plus size phone user, this has never concerned me. I’m mostly able to do things with one hand but when/if I can’t do something one handed, using 2 hands is second nature at this point. People who are buying plus sized phones I think already know this. I don’t think there’s anybody out there who wants to know if you can use these phones one handed. They either get the smaller-mid sized phones because they just don’t want a big phone in their pocket or they do. Even when plus sized phones first started coming out for Apple at the 6 plus. I guess back then it would’ve been nice to know but for the most part over the past 4 or 5 years, phones have kept the same form factor.

Thank you! Finally someone who doesn't say the Pro Max is huge! It is only a smidge taller when compared to the older version! This year, I'm going back to the Pro Max size because of the camera. Wished Apple didn't make that difference in the camera because I like the Pro size iPhone.

I upgraded from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro because I often found the dimensions of the Max to be unwieldy. I have both an iPad Pro and the new M1 Air, so I'm covered for large screens. I need my phone to be easily one-handable, and ease of slipping in and out of pockets is crucial as well.

Reachability mode - start the swipe down inside the bottom dock area and in between app icons. If you do this it works every time. 😂 (you were swiping the screen so got search mode) Also /me - runs to find a potato................ I mentioned this in one of your other pro max vids but I just really want to thank you for mentioning people with vision problems and showing how the zoom looks I always put everything as big as I can I’m on the iPhone 11 but I’m upgrading to the pro max for that reason
I still use and like the iphone 6s plus inspite of the upgrades coming all these years. It has a sleek thin design and has a button at the bottom, to get the feel. It has large screen, the camera is good, has long life battery. I do like the iphone12 pro max, due to similar large screen size , the new pacific blue color and the 5G network, but you need to ask yourself a question, DO YOU REALLY NEED THE UPGRADE against your previous upgrade by spending 1000$ if the previous one is pretty good enough ? Upgrades always come in future years be it a smartphone, TV or a car. If you really need the upgrade then ONLY one should consider buying it. I am surprised the iphone 12 or iphone 12 pro does not come with ear pods or a charger. But nevertheless if one really needs an upgrade then should go for it, otherwise previous upgrades are also quite good.

Hey mate. How are people getting such great battery life? I would say mine is beyond average. 12 pro max, 1 week old getting 6hrs sot with 9hrs off the charger. I’ve had apple run a diagnostic test and come back all good. I run no auto brightness and have it manually set to half or under. Spend majority of my time on UA-cam and socials. Thought these phones were meant to get upto 14hrs sot
I am on an iPhone 6s. Can’t wait to buy the Max! The iPhone 6s did an awesome job but it’s finally time to upgrade. I hope the Max will get me trough the next 3-4 years. I’m hyped! :-)
I really wanted the 12 Pro Max cameras and battery life. But I have a work XS Max phone and I hate using it because it’s so uncomfortable to handle for long periods of time. I decided to go with the regular iPhone 12 Pro. The cameras on that device seem incredible, even the 2x telephoto. And even it’s battery will be better than my current iPhone X. And like you I’m looking forward to someone coming out with a MagSafe wallet-sized external battery. It’ll make Pokémon GO Community Days so much better than carrying a really big external battery with a wire. Here’s hoping.
Rene, could you do a video that explains the big problem so many of us are having with using Dolby vision on our iPhone 12s? Here’s the confusion, and there are several points of confusion: 1. If we film in Dolby, edit it properly in FCPX, export it as a master file, and upload the master to UA-cam, have not we just lost the Dolby quality since UA-cam probably converts it to HDR10? 2. If we want to film in HDR and not Dolby, how do we do that in settings on the iPhone 12 Pro Max since shutting off HDR (the Dolby option?) puts you back in SDR? 3. What if I want to shoot in HDR, 1080p, 30 fps, but not Dolby? If I shut off Dolby, doesn’t that put me in the dreaded SDR? Help please.

Based on your experience so far, do you think its worth shooting in 10 bit all of the time and working with the color for daily youtube uploading? Or does the benefit not really outweigh the file size/time needed to work with the color?

Marques did a comparison of camera photos between. pro, and max Just based on what he presented, it seems hard to find an actual difference beyond the spec sheet It would be interesting if you could do a side by side demonstration of the max vs pro photo/video results
Rene is in Canada prices vary by country for import taxes, taxes, exchange rate. Usually after converting from your country back to USD it’s offset by a marginal amount. Years ago I compared Australia, Singapore, and USA converted all to USD and it was about $20 and $40 dollars different. Might be because of import taxes and which port they shipped to. Like when your checking flights to the same country but different cities the price is different.

Have you had any over heating issues? Today I got a temperature warning that blocked me from using my phone for around 2 minutes. Contacted Apple support and they told me it could be the case. The Apple MagSafe case! iPhone 12 pro max.
First, how does Rene not have 10x as many subs!?! Second, everyone can decide for themselves about the size, the extra $100 gets you as close to a "value" upgrade as you're every gonna see from Apple. I went with the reg Pro because I'm tired of the size, weight, lack of pocketability, and constant 2 handed operation of bigger phones. I'm done - plus, Apple could do a MUCH better job of utilizing screen space. You don't get anywhere near as much additional information considering how huge the phone is.
I enjoy the videos. You really do go into detail, the only thing I would say is you sound a little robotic recently as if you are directly reading your review. I would appreciate it if your reviews were a little more relaxed.

I know for sure the 12 pro max was waaay wider than the xs max, I had one and I used to hate that it was more narrow than my trusty 8+, and I read somewhere it would share the same width measurement as the 8+ (3.07 in), so glad apple finally made a wide phone again🙌🏽
@@lilycat1694 Exactly! It IS wider, its even a tad bit wider than an 11 pro max. I know because my boyfriend has the pro max. We compared both phones and yep, 8+ is wider, not by much. For some reason its more comfortable to type on my 8+ than it was on the xs max, because of the wider body, thats why the xs max was returned. I cant stand narrow phones
Brilliant! So glad to see the comparison with 8+! Pro Max is coming Friday and I’ve been second guessing it since I ordered it, for me I love the size of the 8+, had it since launch and now it gets a new battery and gets handed down to my eldest for his birthday and his 6s will get a new battery and go down to the youngest for Christmas! I love being able to keep recycling them this way, the kids are excited to get a ‘new’ phone but they also know that they are used and hopefully giving them an appreciation of money/value and not ‘needing’ the newest things like some of their friends that get the latest phone only to smash or lose it! We also do this with iPads and tend to upgrade iPhones/iPads roughly every 3 years so I feel we get real value from them by the time they go through us, the kids and then if they are still good they go to younger nephews or grandparents, grandad is still rocking my old iPad mini 2 that I replaced the screen on for his emails and kitchen tv!
Simplifying their iPhone name to mini, air, pro and max makes the most sense! I’m sure apple are willing to spend some money on redesigning the graphics on the box to differentiate which year/model number their iPhones are.
The camera performance in the pics you have provided are almost no different than the 12 Pro. Can you show clear examples where the Max vins? It seems like you want the Max photos to be better because Apple said so when it is clear from the samples that it is not better in any meaningful way and in some shots not better at all.
I have an 8 plus I bought slightly over a year ago. I'm not.biying a new iPhone until I get promotion, and maybe also fingerprint scanner and less of a notch. But mostly promotion, that's my dream phone!
I have an XS Max. Simply put I’m upgrading due to have WiFi and Bluetooth issues. For some reason it takes forever to get connected to a WiFi network while my 7 plus never had an issue with that. It might just be the Intel chip on the phone that’s causing the issue. Otherwise, I would have just waited till next year to upgrade. Plus I have the 64 GB storage option. At the time when I purchased the XS Max I was very budget conscious because of money constraints. I consistently run out of space to where I have to delete stuff every 2 days. It gets annoying after a while. Honestly, I really wanted the 120hz in this year’s model, I guess you can’t always have what you want. Which mostly likely means, I will be trading in the 12 Pro Max for the 12s/13 Pro Max next year if they have the 120hz. if not, I will keeping this phone for at least 2 years or more Ordered the Gold 256GB option. Cannot wait till it’s in my hands on Friday.

Couple of errors. 1) The memory / cost table showed the 64/128/256 for all 4 iPhone 12 models when it should be 128/256/512 for pro models. 2) Comparing battery life to iPhone 12 pro you say you’re consistently getting less with the iPhone 12 pro max, where I think you mean 12 pro? Hey.....you got a hugely impressive review out in no time at all, which is fantastic. I’ve never had a max before, last phone was iPhone 11.......looking forward to seeing if I can handle a big one this Friday when my 128 blue arrives. Thanks 👌

I upgraded from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro because I often found the dimensions of the Max to be unwieldy. I have both an iPad Pro and the new M1 Air, so I'm covered for large screens. I need my phone to be easily one-handable, and ease of slipping in and out of pockets is crucial as well.

I was kinda worried that it’s gonna be too big after watching some reviews, but after your video I think I’ll be fine with the size. I liked the size of 7plus in my hands more than XS Max size.

I mentioned this in one of your other pro max vids but I just really want to thank you for mentioning people with vision problems and showing how the zoom looks I always put everything as big as I can I’m on the iPhone 11 but I’m upgrading to the pro max for that reason
I still use and like the iphone 6s plus inspite of the upgrades coming all these years. It has a sleek thin design and has a button at the bottom, to get the feel. It has large screen, the camera is good, has long life battery. I do like the iphone12 pro max, due to similar large screen size , the new pacific blue color and the 5G network, but you need to ask yourself a question, DO YOU REALLY NEED THE UPGRADE against your previous upgrade by spending 1000$ if the previous one is pretty good enough ? Upgrades always come in future years be it a smartphone, TV or a car. If you really need the upgrade then ONLY one should consider buying it. I am surprised the iphone 12 or iphone 12 pro does not come with ear pods or a charger. But nevertheless if one really needs an upgrade then should go for it, otherwise previous upgrades are also quite good.

Hey mate. How are people getting such great battery life? I would say mine is beyond average. 12 pro max, 1 week old getting 6hrs sot with 9hrs off the charger. I’ve had apple run a diagnostic test and come back all good. I run no auto brightness and have it manually set to half or under. Spend majority of my time on UA-cam and socials. Thought these phones were meant to get upto 14hrs sot

I really wanted the 12 Pro Max cameras and battery life. But I have a work XS Max phone and I hate using it because it’s so uncomfortable to handle for long periods of time. I decided to go with the regular iPhone 12 Pro. The cameras on that device seem incredible, even the 2x telephoto. And even it’s battery will be better than my current iPhone X. And like you I’m looking forward to someone coming out with a MagSafe wallet-sized external battery. It’ll make Pokémon GO Community Days so much better than carrying a really big external battery with a wire. Here’s hoping.
Rene, could you do a video that explains the big problem so many of us are having with using Dolby vision on our iPhone 12s? Here’s the confusion, and there are several points of confusion: 1. If we film in Dolby, edit it properly in FCPX, export it as a master file, and upload the master to UA-cam, have not we just lost the Dolby quality since UA-cam probably converts it to HDR10? 2. If we want to film in HDR and not Dolby, how do we do that in settings on the iPhone 12 Pro Max since shutting off HDR (the Dolby option?) puts you back in SDR? 3. What if I want to shoot in HDR, 1080p, 30 fps, but not Dolby? If I shut off Dolby, doesn’t that put me in the dreaded SDR? Help please.

depends on your state taxes. I am in California and total was 1,184
Rene is in Canada prices vary by country for import taxes, taxes, exchange rate. Usually after converting from your country back to USD it’s offset by a marginal amount. Years ago I compared Australia, Singapore, and USA converted all to USD and it was about $20 and $40 dollars different. Might be because of import taxes and which port they shipped to. Like when your checking flights to the same country but different cities the price is different.

Have you had any over heating issues? Today I got a temperature warning that blocked me from using my phone for around 2 minutes. Contacted Apple support and they told me it could be the case. The Apple MagSafe case! iPhone 12 pro max.
First, how does Rene not have 10x as many subs!?! Second, everyone can decide for themselves about the size, the extra $100 gets you as close to a "value" upgrade as you're every gonna see from Apple. I went with the reg Pro because I'm tired of the size, weight, lack of pocketability, and constant 2 handed operation of bigger phones. I'm done - plus, Apple could do a MUCH better job of utilizing screen space. You don't get anywhere near as much additional information considering how huge the phone is.
I enjoy the videos. You really do go into detail, the only thing I would say is you sound a little robotic recently as if you are directly reading your review. I would appreciate it if your reviews were a little more relaxed.

I know for sure the 12 pro max was waaay wider than the xs max, I had one and I used to hate that it was more narrow than my trusty 8+, and I read somewhere it would share the same width measurement as the 8+ (3.07 in), so glad apple finally made a wide phone again🙌🏽

@@lilycat1694 Exactly! It IS wider, its even a tad bit wider than an 11 pro max. I know because my boyfriend has the pro max. We compared both phones and yep, 8+ is wider, not by much. For some reason its more comfortable to type on my 8+ than it was on the xs max, because of the wider body, thats why the xs max was returned. I cant stand narrow phones

Brilliant! So glad to see the comparison with 8+! Pro Max is coming Friday and I’ve been second guessing it since I ordered it, for me I love the size of the 8+, had it since launch and now it gets a new battery and gets handed down to my eldest for his birthday and his 6s will get a new battery and go down to the youngest for Christmas! I love being able to keep recycling them this way, the kids are excited to get a ‘new’ phone but they also know that they are used and hopefully giving them an appreciation of money/value and not ‘needing’ the newest things like some of their friends that get the latest phone only to smash or lose it! We also do this with iPads and tend to upgrade iPhones/iPads roughly every 3 years so I feel we get real value from them by the time they go through us, the kids and then if they are still good they go to younger nephews or grandparents, grandad is still rocking my old iPad mini 2 that I replaced the screen on for his emails and kitchen tv!
Simplifying their iPhone name to mini, air, pro and max makes the most sense! I’m sure apple are willing to spend some money on redesigning the graphics on the box to differentiate which year/model number their iPhones are.
The camera performance in the pics you have provided are almost no different than the 12 Pro. Can you show clear examples where the Max vins?
It seems like you want the Max photos to be better because Apple said so when it is clear from the samples that it is not better in any meaningful way and in some shots not better at all.

I have an 8 plus I bought slightly over a year ago. I'm not.biying a new iPhone until I get promotion, and maybe also fingerprint scanner and less of a notch. But mostly promotion, that's my dream phone!

I have an XS Max. Simply put I’m upgrading due to have WiFi and Bluetooth issues. For some reason it takes forever to get connected to a WiFi network while my 7 plus never had an issue with that. It might just be the Intel chip on the phone that’s causing the issue. Otherwise, I would have just waited till next year to upgrade.
Plus I have the 64 GB storage option. At the time when I purchased the XS Max I was very budget conscious because of money constraints. I consistently run out of space to where I have to delete stuff every 2 days. It gets annoying after a while.
Honestly, I really wanted the 120hz in this year’s model, I guess you can’t always have what you want. Which mostly likely means, I will be trading in the 12 Pro Max for the 12s/13 Pro Max next year if they have the 120hz. if not, I will keeping this phone for at least 2 years or more

Couple of errors. 1) The memory / cost table showed the 64/128/256 for all 4 iPhone 12 models when it should be 128/256/512 for pro models. 2) Comparing battery life to iPhone 12 pro you say you’re consistently getting less with the iPhone 12 pro max, where I think you mean 12 pro?
