The thematic opening tournaments are my favorite. It's really fun to watch you explore the same opening over and over. Thank you for being a benevolent dictator, Eric!
I would absolutely love to see more tournaments from a starting position. That would be a great way to see how a player sees the same position from different angles
51:27 this is an tricky situation not just for chess players, but also for implementers of chess engines: if you program "legal" move generators (which look for possible king checks before a move is played) as opposed to "semi-legal" move generators (king check is only tested after a move is played which then has to be taken back), then this en passant possibility is usually overlooked as a forbidden move if rook or queen and opposing king are on the same fourth or fifth rank. King would be in check then and the side with the king is not allowed to take en passant.
My god, that first game...dual bishop, forced pawn push promotion mate with 00.87 seconds on the clock? You're a sick individual, sir. Freaking incredible.
I love these thematic tournament videos! Very cool to see the different variations and key ideas out of a particular opening, especially ones I'm not too familiar with such as Jobava London. An interesting video idea would be a tournament like this but with only offbeat openings like a 1. b4 or 1. f4 tournament
Hi Eric - yes, watching on UA-cam and definitely want to see more of these. Ponziani opening would be great. That double check to win the queen was awesome. Thanks for the content.
I like the opening theme idea. I enjoy the kings indian/pirc/modern or the grunfeld with black. With white I have begun playing the italian and would be interested in seeing that. Great content as always!
43:03 Apparently I'm an amazing legendary hero. I remember Eric asking us to pick a favorite game from at least one of those monster vids I'll have to watch again to do so.

Love this, thematic openings deffo an interessting way to go, lets us plebs dig in to what some of the ideas in those openings are. Any chance you'd do something as "low-rate" as the Scandinavian?
Yes! More theme tourneys :) They really show different and interesting lines and it helps 1100 scrubs like me learn! Would love to see one on the hallowe’en, queens or England gambits, they always make for fun viewing :)
46:10 isn't Nd2 crushing here? White has to take with the rook, because if they take with the knight, you have Bc3 discovered check and winning the queen. When they take with the rook, you take back with the bishop, and the knight can no longer capture because it's pinned by your rook on b8. Oh nvm, he said it later
I love Eric most chill GM ever he has a crazy game and he goes oh that reminds me to turn on my heart rate monitor like what? You have a heartbeat chillest guy ever
That double check queen win should be a puzzle maneuver, I’ve never done a puzzle like it and that’s an awesome move. Also, Eric, you should partner with Levy and create courses for Chessly, I’d love one on your Jobava london especially after doing gothams D4 london/trompowsky course. A specialized Jobava london would be great
@@MicahHeard moving the bishop comes with tempo so can't he just take a pawn and come back to the same square next move. Sorry if the question is a bit stupid as i am new to chess
When you said that Jobava was a strong grandmaster from Georgia I got confused if it was a state or a country. Usually the answer is clear by the context, but not in this case. Although I guess he's from the states judging by his name =)
if I remember correctly, Eric said he used Dall-E 2 for the "World's Largest Duck Chess Tournament" thumbnail (video released in November 22). Maybe he keeps using it for other thumbnails

I laughed so hard there...
3:14 No one can blunder a queen as cheerfully as Eric.
When I blunder a queen I don’t play again for a month
it's not a blunder if it's the engine's best move
I love it when he says "don't hurt me" like he isn't the most ruthless killer in the entire tournament.
I really like the thematic opening tournaments it helps to get to know different openings more in depth
That's true actually, Eric together wth Hikaru
,I truly enjoy watching their chess streams
Yes more thematic tournaments please !
Agreed! Fun and instructional. I'd love to see more like this
Did I expect to watch an hour of Eric playing jobova London instead of getting out of my bed this morning? No.
Did i enjoy it? Absolutely.
Reading your comment at 4:30 am. (instead of going to bed).

I'm pretty sure there's at least a Ponziani themed tourney and a Stafford Gambit tourney lead by Hikaru somewhere on one of Eric's channels.

Good job, Eric! I like the themed tournaments because it helps instill some common themes for the different openings. Cheers!
the way camel lost two games, with one a queen up, that he even lost his top place is pure anime villain backstory
Frankly, I find any type of blitz tournaments really enjoyable, the thematic ones are really great, but nothing compares with the gambits!
Hi Eric - yes, watching on UA-cam and definitely want to see more of these. Ponziani opening would be great. That double check to win the queen was awesome. Thanks for the content.
52:39 omg, that tactic is so beautiful.
He missed an easy tactic right after it. When the king moved to the d-file Eric had rook to d1 which would have won the rook and forced mated
Thanks for posting this to UA-cam was interesting to watch the whole tournament with your commentary.

What's the issue with Nc6 at 41:50? Nc6/Qb7, Nb4/Bxd6, Nc2 wins rook? Possibly traps their Queen if they castle to defend C2?
