Still one of the coolest bands of all time. The Beasties are absolute legends how they would fuse hip hop, punk, funk, lounge jazz and alternative sometimes in the space of one song , let alone an entire album. RIP MCA.
I think this kid making 90s rap style music is going to blow. HE IS DIFFERENT
ua-cam.com/video/YQFyf4JK8po/v-deo.html
Every time I see the Beasties I just miss MCA's totally unique voice and sense of humor. Rest in peace Adam~
TBH, I consider MCA to be the best MC in the group
@@flux1968big same. he always had my favorite rhymes of the beastie boys!
"Sabotage", " No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn", "Check Your Head" album and "So What'cha Want", and " Brass Monkey" are other worthwhile ones by The Beastie Boys.
FYI:
"Sabotage" is the greatest music video of all-time.
They already reacted to the Sabotage video, and Brad was hella distracted by the video.
"Sabotage" is the greatest music video of all-time.
This entirely.
Sabotage is the greatest 1970s cop show we never got to watch.
All of this
Sabotage is amazing! It was on MTV so much, and maybe it's easier for 'old' folks like me who grew up in the 70s/80s with those cop shows to understand, but it's so hilarious...and a great song, too.
You've got to do "Three MCs and 1 DJ". The video is FIRE. It really shows off their skills.
Definitely, a great intro to the group.
Yes. Brilliant stuff.
Nah the song is below average
And still nobody can do it like mix master can
Agreed..amazing
Beastie Boys were the OG's man. SO many good tracks. Truly, one of the ONLY hip-hop/rap groups that consistently put out hit after hit after hit. Airwaves were blowing up with the Boys back in the day.
Oh man I loved these guys so much. They were the absolute best at whatever it was they were doing and no way can you categorize their music. LEGENDARY!
Love this song. The rhymes just flow like a river and a great hook.
So many great songs from this legendary band.....how about: " Paul's Boutique"?
When the disc before Ill Communication dropped, Check Your Head, I told everyone who'd listen that the Beasties were going to the biggest band/crew on the planet. It took until this disc that it happened. Awesome stuff !
“The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” is a 1974 movie about armed gunmen who take over a NYC subway train and demand a huge ransom. (skip the remakes)
The name comes from the fact that subway officials refer to trains by station at departure time. “Pelham One Two Three” on the 6 line leaves Pelham Bay Park Station in the Bronx at 1:23pm bound for Manhattan.
Apparently the movie caused a superstition about scheduling the train that way, and for years there was no Pelham 123 on the board. Officially, that’s been rescinded. Still… 😅
Beastie Boys; NYC to the end.
MCA; May he come to eternal rest from samsara and reach nirvana. 🙏☸️
The Beasties are just simply BADASS! "Open Letter to NYC" is a must!!!!
YES!!!
These guys were very influential and are well liked by many in rap. Eminem made one of his album covers in honor of them, w/an almost exact copy of their cover art. You should watch the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction for Beastie Boys, by Chuck D of Public Enemy and LL Cool J. They both have personal connections to Beastie Boys when they were starting out, and love and respect them. It's a great video.
They were strictly a punk band when they started. Maybe you knew this I don’t know but a lot of people don’t
@@GG-dc3qs Yes, I didn't know it in the beginning, but somewhere along the way I found out they had been a punk band and played their instruments etc. That punk vibe/attitude is definitely still in their rap/rock music. Very innovative people
@3:21 Hope this girl hears/sees this. “I want to say a little something that's long overdue, the disrespect to women has got to be through. To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends, I wanna offer my love and respect till the end.”
At the time - and even now - REVOLUTIONARY BARS
Still listen to the Beasties today... My vote would be for 'Root down' and 'Get it together'. both are awesome
"Get it together"...a masterpiece.
Root Down is the best!
Ill Communication such an awesome LP & hit #1 in the US. Despite the flute sample on this one, they were trending away from their more sample heavy sound and moving toward live instruments (Adam -guitar, MCA - bass and Mike D on drums). Amazing instrumentals on this LP, such as Sabrosa 🔥
What do you think about this young kid doing 90s style rap? ua-cam.com/video/YQFyf4JK8po/v-deo.html
Thank you both for doing a Beastie Boys review. Still one of the most amazing groups that stayed true to themselves, their art and continued to grow. I'm hoping you'll add a couple more songs to your reaction list .. highly suggest 3 MCs and 1 DJ, as well as Root Down. Lex, for you, I suggest any track on their instrumental album, The In Sound From Way Out. This is one of my fave albums of theirs along with Check Your Head, Hello Nasty & Ill Communications.
Is it weird to say that my living as a jazz musician was heavily influenced by the Beastie Boys? Samples of Jeremy Steig, Jimmy Smith, and even a tune called “Groove Holmes.” I principally play organ at this point, and these samples, along with the organ shit on “So What’cha Want” have played a huge role in my evolving love for the Hammond organ. Hearing “License To Ill” played by my older brother was quintessential to my musical development. Beastie Boys fan for life! RIP MCA
You know you're great when you are your own genre.
My favorite Beastie Boys video is for their song "Sabotage".
It looks like they're having so much fun! (Serpico style.)
I love it!
the flow in this song is mesmerizing. I hope the subtitles weren't behind for you like on my feed. Just an amazing showcase of their talent. And the number of layered sounds and music in the background to create a new song is Public Enemy level. Excellent
True hip hop the kids can’t do today. I was in 6th grade when License to Ill came out. Been a fan ever since.
They could if they put the time into it; but they're starting from behind not growing up on stuff with some actual flow. Here's to hoping that the influence of those like Kendrick can shift things for the positive in future generations.
I am a 47yo white boy from the streets of NYC back in the 80s I was among the 1st to like rap which was unheard of cause most white people listen to rock. Then in 1987 my neighbor said you gotta hear this new rap record I got from the mall they're white! She played Paul Revere on their 1st album L 2 ill, I already heard Hold it on their 1st single on the radio but I thought they were black. I played their album so many times I knew every lyric to every song! In 1987 I was 13 me and my friend took the subway by ourselves to our very 1st concert ever to MSG for the Beastie Boys/Run-DMC "together forever " tour
Beastie Boys were amazing. They have many great songs. Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff had some really good/funny story telling raps too.
Beastie Boys entire catalog is fire.
You couldn't go to a skate park in the 90's without Beastie Boys blasting.
“I got more rhymes than I got gray hair, and that’s a lot, because I got mr share” 😂 Best rhyme ever.
The dog in the beginning says, “I love you“!
Catch the old-school references: Lee Dorsey, Kojak, John Woo, Rod Carew, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and Vaughn Bode & Cheech Wizard.
The Beasties are so damn good! One of the most diverse and talented groups in Hip-hop!
Love the flute loop!!!!
I love their track "Flute Loop."
Beasties were so good at what they did. Many years of great music.
One of my really good friends from when we were about 12 or 13 yrs old, over 40 yrs ago, Amery "AWOL" Smith was the touring drummer for the Beastie's tours and live performances for from 1992 until the band broke up in 2012 due to the death of one of the members.
Brastie Boys were very influential to artists like Kid Rock, Eminem, and many more.
Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J. They weren't the first rappers, but they were the first rappers to get really popular and bring hip-hop into the mainstream. The Beastie Boys influenced a lot of hip-hop acts that came after them like Public Enemy and NWA, among many others. They were true trailblazers and hip-hop would not be the same without them.
I saw Public Enemy open up for the Beastie Boys.
@@bluebird3281 saw beasties on lollapalooza tour in 94
90's packed dance floor song
This song went through my head whenever my ex wife started her non stop stories that went nowhere.
OK, came here to comment on B-Boys (again), but:
Brad's PJ Harvey shirt--- is *totally badass.*
Respect. '90s, y'all.
This is real hip hop. No disrespecting women, no guns, just fun.
This was my last ringtone, so I keep thinking I'm getting a call😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's weird to think that for Madonna's '85 tour, these guys were the opener. Back then they still felt pretty connected to their punk roots.
Always an awesome time with Beastie Boys. R.I.P. MCA.
always felt they nailed their rock/rap/hip hop lol what a dag tho lol
I've noticed that most rap music, punk rock music, and alt rock trips Lex out at times. lol
Brad likes those type of music, though. Very unique and cool music and crowd.
30th anniversary of Check your HEAD.celabrate today!
I've never paid attention to lyrics for all of my favorite jams. It's all about the vibes.
Flashback to 97/98 when my college roommate and I used this are the “opener” for our room voicemail message (the fist part and then “hi! This is Liz and Kristin. Leave a message!”). Back when we had no cell phones and a landline for the room.
Man these guys bring me back to my High School days so much fun back then, miss those times now more than ever before 🤔
Lex is a metal head 😄😄😄. She’s our metal girl.
Some of my friends in high school loved this group. I like them more now then I did then.
I hated them until "Check Your Head" dropped. Then I changed my mind real quick.
that sample "ah yes indeed it's fun time..." is "Moms Mabley" a FANTASTIC comedienne from way back...so funny...and she "works blue" AF!
I never really understood what they said but just went with the music. The Beasties were SOOO BIG for soooo long. I saw them at a Free Tibet concert in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Their lyrics are catchy!
They make a call out to Vaughn Bode!!! Vaughn Bode was a classic, alternative comic book artist in the 1970s. That is so cool!
THANK YOUUUUUUU FOR REACTING TO THE GREAT BEASTIE BOYS ❤
Those track suits and breakdancing was only happening in the mid 80s. By 1990 all that was gone and gangster rap style set in with baggy cargo jeans, Raiders caps ect. You are thinking the Run DMC era 1984-1988, and even they ditched the track suits in 86.
Kinda died out early '90s, you are right. Mainstream rap kind of changed a bit.
Gotta listen to Paul’s Boutique! BEASTIE’S AT THEIR VERY BEST!
The reasons that Lex gave for her not being able to follow hip hop lyrics, is the exact reason that you should react to more hip hop. We will get the most authentic and unusual reaction from an outsider of the genre
"Paul Revere" for the story and "Brass Monkey" for the beat... showing my age.
it was Blondie's "Rapture" that you were thinking of. "Flash is fast, Flash is cool, Francois sais pas, flashe' no do"
"And you don't stop"
"Sure shot."
Time for some DEVO...Are We Not Men 😎
Absolutely! It was one of the most important albums of the 70s
You should do Beastie Boys Egg Raid on Mojo. It is not too good but it will give you an idea of where they came from.
Lol. It's punk rock. Lex will flip out.
Not a huge BB fan, but this is my favorite song of theirs.
Yes!! OMG love this sooo much
You gotta check the Video of "So Whatcha Want?" The boys look so lit it's hilarious!😅❤
Beastie’s are the BOMB! From Day 1.
Always been a fan of this one with the flute overlaying those beats, yo. Love how they pay homage to the old jazz great. Good stuff.
their best track IMHO hands down
Also the dudes were my skateboard 🛹 jam! HIGH FLAMA JAMA!
I saw the Beastie Boys on Lollapolooza in 1994 after them was Smashing Pumpkins. THE BEASTIE’S KILLED AND I WAS HIGH HIGH HIGH😵💫😵💫😵💫 SMOKED A BLUNT FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE THE SHOW AND CONTINUED THROUGH SMASHING PUMPKINS 🎃 WHAT PSYCHEDELIC SHOWS THOSE WERE!
Great reaction! So glad you reacted to their video! Their videos are so good and have so much personality.
one of the best club songs period!
This song memories of bar b quin with the homies an skating.
The first cd I ever bought when i was a kid was the Beastie Boys solid gold hits album, and Sure Shot was one of my go to songs from that album!
The Move by Beastie Boys is a banger.
😎 it's the sure shot sure to make the body .. drop 💃👏😆🥳🥳🥳🥰🥰🙌🙌🙌🙌🏆❤️❤️❤️ beastie boys known to make that beat..drop
The Kings of Beats and Bars.
The best !! Greatest band !!
Beastie boys almost influenced a whole era with numeta and also started as a punk band, also they never took themselves seriously that why they were loved by all races
The boys body rockin
This was the shit in 94
Nobody will ever be as talented and entertaining in that genre as the Beastie Boys..
Well you say I'm 20 somethin'and I shouldn't be slackin' but I'm workin' harder than ever and you can call it mackin'- Mike D.
Lex feeling it, a natural spitter
Way ahead of their time.
hip hop is like hood code.. certain words and expressions mean things in their different contexts.. a sub language
Maestro Fresh Wes - Let Your Backbone Slide
This whole lp is genius
Finally! Been wondering where your Beastie Boys reactions were! BTW- don't let anyone talk you into Sabatoge until you've done a few of their songs first.
Mad hits like Rod Carew.
They also have a song called Flute Loop.
One of their best
Is that a PJ Harvey shirt, Brad? hell yeah!
Beastie Boys - Legendary rap pimps!
"Too many Rappers" , Beastie boys and Nas, that's where it's it
Brilliant rendition 💝
Lex you would love Paul Revere by them, it's a story.
Paul Revere and Body Movin are my favorites, isn’t it crazy how all the comments have different suggestions? They did something for everyone!
I feel ya Lexi. For me as well I often don't pay attention to what lyrics are saying. To me vocals as such are more like another instrument in the band and it's more about the sound and rhythm and harmony and timbres of it all. I really only pay attention to lyrics when it's a song I really like.
Helllll yep!
Great song and they have a bunch of them so check out what’cha you want.
Intergalactic is great too as well as body moving
I think the phrase "you can, you won't and you don't stop" appeared in a lot of early rap songs when rap was a young genre. They definitely weren't the only ones using that phrase back in the day. So that may be why it sounds familiar
The story of this song is this, "We are the Beastie Boys, and you are not."
Right right Now now is another good one.
People talk about how good they were making rap...Root down, B-Boys Bouillance, Hello Ladies and many others...They were really good at punk as well. But man! Their ambient, acid jazz and psychedelic instrumental songs, those are some wicked shit. They were so unique in many ways. The only band I've been listening from the 90's and still listening! Next one, Gratitude...
