Great video! Disappointed no M&P’s ! You left one outside for a few months and it still shot like a champ! No greater endorsement for reliability than that!
Yeah, Smith and Wesson have done and are doing great things in the gun market when it comes to quality, design, and innovation. The newer M&P Metal handgun that released is really a pleasure. My only personal drawback is the amazing trigger. It's amazing in terms of smoothness and reset, but I want my personal carry/duty gun to have a stiffer trigger like a Glock so there's no accidental discharges during possible highly tense lethal threat situations where one's adrenaline will be high. I mean you just put a bit of pressure down on the M&P Metal and bang! Great for the range, but not my personal carry.

Kids really are second class citizens in a way. RIGHT?!?! I couldn't believe the echelon was in here but the M&P was. I don't love the m&p lineup, but I at least know they're reliable. I can't say the same about the echelon
@chadillac95 i have over 3k rounds through my echlon, and it has been nothing but reliable. Out of those rounds, i have had maybe 3-5 malfuntions (from minuteman ammo). It's my EDC, and I'd bet my life on it. I owned an M&P Shield chambered in .40 and would chose the Echelon each time. This is my own biased opinion so take it as you will.
I have the echelon. Feels good in my hand and I shoot it well. I have a 507c on it. I have maybe 1000 rounds through it with absolutely zero malfunctions. I also have an S&W M&P 2.0 and I don't even take it to the range. Some guns just fit better to different people I guess.

I got an old gen 2 glock 22 and after thousands of rounds it has never not gone boom. I dont even like it but it is the most reliable gun I've ever owned.
I also purchased a Glock 19 when they were first imported in the late 80s. Got a lot of grief about having “a toy gun”. I cannot give an accurate round count, but probably close to 10,000. Recoil spring has been replaced once. I also have gen 3 models 26 and 27 for home defense and carry. All have been incredibly durable.

You can make a good argument for almost all these guns on HO's list, but I swear to hell... Glock is so fucking overrated. I have seen video after video of glocks failing while other guns like an M1911 and a S&W M&P 2.0 succeed with flying colors. Now, I WILL say, I think perhaps the older Glocks may have been much more reliable than the newer models for whatever reason, but regardless, I hate how Glock gets this place of honor in so many gun lists that it really REALLY doesn't deserve. Overpriced, shitty out-of-the-box trigger, temperamental, bad finishes, lacking in features, and without any external safety. The Glock is just a joke with the only exception being, again maybe, the older models. Like gen. 3 and down. And only because they might actually have the purported reliability that glocks are supposed to have.

That’s also my top 5 based on word of mouth, but I don’t own a Glock or an HK USP, so based on personal experience I’d have to swap out those two for a Walther PPS M2 (3000 rounds with no malfunctions) and a H&K VP9.

@@Sleepy7666 Not true. Check out SmallArmsSolution on the break down for the XM9 program. The P226 even got a rematch and the Army still didn't see any difference in reliability. The 1911 did the worst, but that was probably due to the guns being worn out.

Can’t argue with the P226, Glock 34 or the Wilson CQB. I have owned all or these for years. Performance and accuracy are fantastic. I have carried all of these at various time and shot IDPA with the Glock and Wilson for more than a decade. Never had a malfunction with any of them, not caused by me or hand-loaded ammo.
CZ 75 ... I love the P01 Compact and SP01 Tactical ... they are right up there with Legion P226 ... I first carried a P226 back in the 80s ... If I had to pick just 1 handgun to have > it is going to be 1 of these 3 ... I guess the P01 gets a bit of a jump on that decision based on the size towards a carry ... I prefer DA/SA and I prefer a decocker
Carried a 6" 686 on duty for years, qualified distinguished expert and did well in PPC competition. Moved on to 1911's for a while, then had to go to M&P when the department deemed it the one to carry. I miss my 686!
My go pistol is a Ruger SR1911 standard model 45acp. I’ve got at least 3500 rds through it and it’s never failed. Runs 7rd, 8rd and 10 rd mags with zero problems. Fed and fired anything I’ve fed it. Sometimes it’s 500rds between cleanings and it just runs.
My first handgun (1985) was the S&W586. (6”, RRWO sights, Pach grips) Since then I’ve purchased the 686 and the 686+ I carry a G23, but I have to say that the 586/686 has always felt more like an extension of my body, moreso than my G23 - and my G23 goes everywhere with me - literally an extension of me.
My issued Duty Gun through my department is a Gen 4 Glock 21. My off Duty carry is a Glock 45 with ACRO P2. My bedside gun is a Gen 5 Glock 21 with Holosun 508, and I love all of them. Glock isn't perfect, but it works best for me
I love my G21 gen 4 so much but honestly I wish I would have went with a Gen 3 for aftermarket support. My main gripe was the finger grooves but fixed that with files and sanding. The Gen 5 is tempting dang it as is a G2O cause it's basically the same frame.
The Glock is the best, I love my G17 and G19. Uber reliable and doesn’t break the bank. Plenty of parts are available, better sights and now MOS versions. Can’t be beat.
Glocks are easy to beat. Even Taurus is above them at this point. Glocks come with the worst sights, triggers, ergonomics, plastic guide rods, and unsupported chambers. Not to mention they aren't even top 5 in reliability. Most other handguns come with premium parts out of the box except glocks. Possibly the worst choice except for a sccy or hi point.
I had an Echelon... *Had* an Echelon. Loved the way it felt while getting to know it in dry-fire practice, HOWEVER the magazines couldn't handle the Arizona desert. I took it to a competition as it's maiden voyage. Stage one, flawless. There was a reload in the stage so I dropped one of the the mags in the dirt. Picked it up, banged it on my knee to knock the dust off it, loaded it back up. Stage two, jams, failure to feed. Convince the RSO to give me a mulligan. Go back to the tech table, completely disassemble the mag, run a rag through it, wipe off the follower, reassemble and reload, run the stage again. Jams, failure to feed. Good thing I brought a backup pistol, I finish the match with gun X. Afterward I experiment with the Echelon again. Clean the mag again and I get it to run. Drop BOTH mags in the dirt, bang them on my knees, reload, BOTH mags jam. Repeatable results, this is an unreliable system. What was gun X? A Shadow Systems XR920. That same XR920 went through a 2-day ~500 round pistol training class and allowed me to qualify Expert, no jams or problems AT ALL, all while dropping those mags (Magpul GL9) in that same dirt, them getting kicked and stepped on, and all me doing to clean them off is banging them on my knees and loading them back up. But that's more a testament to the mags than the gun, right? Well, I traded my Echelon for a used Shadow Systems MR920 with an RMR on it. I brought THIS one to a 2-day ~750 round pistol optics training course. About 2/3 of the way through day two I dropped the gun, at the time it didn't have a magazine in it and all that desert dirt went up into the frame through the magazine well and locked it up to where I could barely get the slide off the gun. But I managed to field strip it, wanged the frame and slide on a folding table a few times to clear out as much dirt as I could, blew into the crevices a few times, added some fresh oil to the slide rails, rammed it all back together, and ran it the rest of the class without any further maintenance. Racking it sounded like I was rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together and I could feel the grit in the trigger, but despite all that there were zero malfunctions. Ran the qual with it like this, achieved Expert with it like this. Shadow Systems products have earned my trust, I've owned 4 of their handguns at this point and plan to own more. I know FOR YOU Shadow Systems has NOT been reliable, and that's completely the opposite of my experience. And here you are recommending an Echelon, which is completely OPPOSITE of my experience! Funny how much a change in environment and/or a bad case of QC can completely change the end-user experience.
Use what you know, don't let anyone sway your opinion, The 1911 will always be an Experts gun and this from a guy that fields a Glock 17 as an EDC, however the trigger of a well conditioned 1911 will always rule the roost. This comment always infuriates some folks.
A Glock 34 and S&W 686 are the oldest guns I own. Absolutely dead reliable. I'm over 20k on the Glock, and just replaced the springs. Was still running like a champ, but preemptive maintenance is the right way to go
I grew up with the original 1911. As far as my dad was concerned, that was the only semiautomatic pistol. He never considered any other. I like the 1911, but once I fired a Glock 19, I was hooked. It just fits my hands, and I can shoot it well. I found that extended to most of the Glock family. I have the standard calibers, 9 mm, 40 caliber, and 45 caliber.
Dad gave me a new S&W 586 4" in 1988 for graduation from HS. God knows how many rounds have gone through that pistol (im 54 now). I will never get rid of it. It is so fun to shoot and accurate. Went through a Police Academy after Navy with that gun (couldn't afford anything) and did great. Reliable, accurate, stock never an issue!. S&W makes the best revolvers IMO.

I bought my P-09 after a range day with a buddy, it was my intro to CZ years ago. Since then I've added more of them to the repertoire, but I'll be damned if the P-09 doesn't remain my go-to bedside handgun. It has been the most reliable weapon I've ever owned. Lost count of how many thousand rounds I've put through it, all perfectly.
Great video!....among the many firearms i have, my #1 for accuracy and dependabiilty is my glock 29.....10mm and small, its amazingly accurate, at least for me....cheers
Big fan of the P07. I have several thousand rounds thru mine. Have had two major failures.Broken trigger reset spring and firing pin retainer roll pin. I think both were the result of a lot of dry firing. Both were easy repairs and now when I dry fire. I always use a dummy round with a soft primer bumper. The P07 is my carry gun for the last 3 years.
Great list. Lots of cool guns and like you said, there can be a lot of honorable mentions. I’ve tried to move on from glock but it’s just boringly beautiful, reliable, durable and shootable. I carry my Glock 45 mos everyday. It’s my go-to side arm for every occasion.
I’m shocked that no M&P made this list, considering: 1) your own proven first hand testing & experience 2) the outstanding performance during other grueling reliability tests from people like Garand Thumb (eg mud, freezing, dropping, etc.) 3) Its own track record with military/LE I know you like 1911s, but no way I’m taking one over a modern M&P 2.0 if I had to bet my life on it. That’s clearly just your love for 1911s coming through 😅
In 1999 I bought a brand new P95DC in 9mm. It's a tank but is one of the softest shooting 9mm I've ever shot. My buddies are amazed at the different recoil impulse. It has no metal in the slide rails and have never read of one that failed. They designed it for military and law enforcement use. Amazing pistol.
Hey Chris, I know you put a lot of effort and data you have collected into each of these videos, it really shows with your final product. Your videos are always well thought out, and I know you make some tough calls when you do top lists like this. We really appreciate your opinions. I was thinking it would be sweet if you had a 2011 series comparing the best in each price range. I’m shopping for one right now and there are so many options, I had no idea. Of the guns in this video, I own the 226 Legion and the 686 (mine is the 686+ version). I buy & sell guns a bit, as a hobby, but I will NEVER sell my 226 or 686+ because they are awesome pieces that MUST BE in my collection at all times. Everything he said in this video is spot-on!
weird answer is the USP. One of the few semi-auto guns that has a lighter and easy to pull slide and the recoil buffer system is a lot easier on the hands.
One suggestion is to not fixate on the trigger pull but on the grip. Then, once you have a comfortable grip, do a customization on the trigger to make the pull lighter/softer. But any mod to your own comfort level so you can fire accurately.
@@Slider6294 It's really dependent on what kind of arthritis they got. If it's mostly in the finger joints then definitely focus trigger but if it's in the wrists then the big focus needs to be recoil shock and slide pull weight. A lot of 9mm pistols have easy triggers but punishingly hard slide pulls to rack them. It's a tough balancing act.

Im going to take a hard look at the Springfield Echelon and the CZ P-07. I need a lighter pistol in 9mm because the only pistol I still own is a Springfield 1911 Custom Loaded that I bought in 2004 (first gun I ever purchased). It needs a refinish since it's 20 years old, but it is very reliable.

I bought the G34 based on his many reviews of it over the years. It's my favorite gun to shoot, and protects my family at night. Now what he said was interesting: same old Glock trigger. I don't think it's the same trigger at all. Mine has a more obvious wall, and breaks a bit lighter. That was not my expectation when I bought it, but it does seem to be a better trigger.
I’ve got a p07 with like 4500 rounds. Only failures where from limp wristing heavily and a broken trigger return spring, replaced and fully canonized now, my absolute favorite handgun I’ve ever had
Carried a Beretta 92F for 26+ years. It went through rain, snow, mud, sand, hot, and cold, and always worked. No jams, double feeds, light strikes or mechanical failures of any kind, ever, and it was deadly accurate when the time came. So, yes, this gun I can (and did) bet my life on and it never let me down. Conversely, later in my career, I was issued a SW M&P. Worst gun I ever carried, complete junk. Constant jamming and parts breaking. Went back to my Beretta.
Good list. I have to say I'm putting the M&P over the echelon. I have no doubt it's solid but the M&P is much more proven and Smith and wesson just keeps making it better. I also would of liked to see a walther on there Somewhere. Possibly the ppq.
Good to know I have a majority of these guns. I'd add the classic CZ-75, Beretta M9A4 and a gen 1 S&W M&P. Gen 1 because I actually like the auto reload feature haha.

My duty weapon is a first gen Springfield 9mm tactical. Have over 15000 rounds no misfires or double feeds. Never changed anything. Only thing is I replaced the trijicon sights
I carry a Glock 27 and sometimes I carry my Glock 23 but I also used to carry the Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 and it’s a very good gun. It’s very comparable to the Glock 19.
I know you don't like the Beretta 92; but it should be on the list. It went toe to to with the Sig P226 in the military trials and came out on top although the Sig did finish slightly ahead of it in the reliability test.
@@Asidebar I do like the Beretta. Fits my hand great. Safety placement is dumb; but they fixed that on the newest ones. I've learned to live with the old safety though since its not that important on a DA/SA that you're going to carry with the safety off anyway.
@@ullrichgebhardt2737 The Langdon LTT trigger bar does a lot to improve that. You can buy it separately from the rest of the Langdon upgrades for around $80 and install it yourself without too much difficulty.
The sig is a much better gun. They did fix the issues with the Beretta, but I still will never like the Beretta after working in the Armory. The original slides were horrible. They shot ok, but after shooting the sig there is way too much to like. I will admit some bias against the Beretta but even without that I still don't think it would be close for me.
The only revolver I own is a S&W, but it's a 340PD that I weak side pocket carry because Paul Harrell taught me the value of a pocket dump and I adapted that knowledge to what I learned from John Lovell and others about defensive knives along with the fact that I'm getting older and don't want to risk rolling around fighting for MY firearm against some cranked up miscreant in the prime of his, short, life waiting for my small knife holes to stop him from getting to my AIWB when I have WAY more confidence in a snub nose 357 magnum at grappling distance... If I do have the space, I trust my life to a S&W, currently a M&P Spec Series, that I'm about to swap out for the new Carry Comp as soon as I get one. I'm a total S&W fanboy, and I trust my life to them. Only 2 of the handguns I currently own aren't S&W and only 3 (counting the J-Frame) aren't some type of M&P
I appreciate this video. My self, just a former cop 20 years ago, has very little experience with the variety of handguns. Shoot when I first became a cop we carried S&W 357 pistols.. with 38spl ammo!!. Few years later we went to Glocks, 17 I believe. Now, I took some independent training, but it was with just 2 separate handguns. So that's all I know. I can not afford to buy 100 different pistols, shoot them for 2-3 thousand rounds, plus all the testing. So I rely on you younger generation in this field and especially our military with proven experience. Ultimately I "think' my next "combat" pistol with be a Sig 226, probably legion. I don't care about concealability. I need it to be 100% reliable when the day that is coming so very soon when we all are getting a crash course in war. I also may get a G19. Just because it's lighter and 2-3 less rounds won't make a difference as i always have a SBR somewhere handy.
Ill always be a glock guy. I originally started carrying a 1911 in the early 90’s, but switched to glock as soon as i tried one. Bought my first g17 in 1993 and havent seen a need to switch yet. Tried several others but always come back to them. I like usp’s, 226’s, and pt92’s. I just dont like them enough to switch for edc. The 226 would probably be my second (other than the weight). The usp would be more appealing to me if it werent for the triggers.
I wasn’t really a fan of the ginormous flashlight on a handgun, but I got tired of my flashlight being mounted to my home defense pcc and not getting used. So I decided to turn it into a multi purpose flashlight and I got an in line mount and slapped it on my SD9 2.0 and even though it was ridiculously huge and looked absolutely absurd, I think it’s totally awesome 😂 and now I’m a fan of ridiculously huge flashlights on a handgun.
Most reliable firearms I have experience with and have at least 2k rounds through: 7. Springfield LW Operator (8k+) 6. CZ Shadow 2 (2k+) 5. HK MP5k (almost 2k) 4. CZ Scorpion Carbine (4k+) 3. Glock 34 Gen 5 (5k+) 2. FN SCAR 17 (4k+ combined between two different rifles) 1. Colt MT6400 (10k+)

Yeah, Smith and Wesson have done and are doing great things in the gun market when it comes to quality, design, and innovation. The newer M&P Metal handgun that released is really a pleasure. The Echelon but no M&P is wild imo.
Most reviewers disregard the M@P but it's one of the best performers in all the torture tests

Wow I wonder how many rounds been put thru it!?
Eleventeen thousands
I got an old gen 2 glock 22 and after thousands of rounds it has never not gone boom. I dont even like it but it is the most reliable gun I've ever owned.
I also purchased a Glock 19 when they were first imported in the late 80s. Got a lot of grief about having “a toy gun”. I cannot give an accurate round count, but probably close to 10,000. Recoil spring has been replaced once. I also have gen 3 models 26 and 27 for home defense and carry. All have been incredibly durable.
I would definitely add the S&W M&P 2.0

Like gen. 3 and down. And only because they might actually have the purported reliability that glocks are supposed to have.

you should get a f-16 fighter jet for your bed side instead
I love my G21 gen 4 so much but honestly I wish I would have went with a Gen 3 for aftermarket support. My main gripe was the finger grooves but fixed that with files and sanding. The Gen 5 is tempting dang it as is a G2O cause it's basically the same frame.
They're all the same, I'm surprised you need different ones for different scenarios.
The Glock is the best, I love my G17 and G19. Uber reliable and doesn’t break the bank. Plenty of parts are available, better sights and now MOS versions. Can’t be beat.
They have terribly uncomfortable triggers tho that are hard to pull.
Have you ever used one@@Jbird18
Well, that may be true, but You can have an aftermarket trigger installed and problem solved.
Funny how much a change in environment and/or a bad case of QC can completely change the end-user experience.

weird answer is the USP.

Constant jamming and parts breaking. Went back to my Beretta.
Walther PDP makes my list. I would replace the 686 with the Ruger GP100; I have had horrible luck with S&W revolvers.
Good call on the GP100. I HATE revolvers but that's one that I would own.
@@bradtaylor8096 - Ruger does well with revolvers. I have 2 GP100s, a Blackhawk, and a Super Redhawlk. I wouldn't trade any of them.
I bought an echelon based off of your review of it and I absolutely love it.
I have an original 1911A1 that I carry (for hunting/camping/hiking/fishing).
Same here, although mine is still in original 1911 trim.
Good list. I have to say I'm putting the M&P over the echelon. I have no doubt it's solid but the M&P is much more proven and Smith and wesson just keeps making it better. I also would of liked to see a walther on there Somewhere. Possibly the ppq.
I recently traded my G34 for a G19 and I couldn’t be happier
Why not have both???!
@@FirstnameLastname-vy2dg because. thats why...
Good to know I have a majority of these guns. I'd add the classic CZ-75, Beretta M9A4 and a gen 1 S&W M&P. Gen 1 because I actually like the auto reload feature haha.
Great video. RIP Paul😢.
Sir Harroll
1. out of context
2. i can guarantee you have never met him and dont know anything about him
3. he doesnt know who you are
4. if you died he wouldnt give a shit
5. you saying "RIP Paul" isnt going to benefit him now that he is dead
6. its not that deep, much more important people have died and the world doesnt care
7. people die every day and its normal
so clearly, you making that statement was quite unwise to say that least.

1. Get a life
@@MrNexor-cj8gs if I didn’t have a life I wouldn’t be able to make that comment because I’d be dead
I've been carrying Betty since 1989 and she's the love of my life we've been through a lot together my 92FS is one helluva pistol.
Glock 19….browning hi power ..colt .45….sig p226….cz 75 ….
My duty weapon is a first gen Springfield 9mm tactical. Have over 15000 rounds no misfires or double feeds. Never changed anything. Only thing is I replaced the trijicon sights
I bet my life on my Glock 17 all day long
I carry a Glock 27 and sometimes I carry my Glock 23 but I also used to carry the Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 and it’s a very good gun. It’s very comparable to the Glock 19.
Good old Brownells...been around forever and still going strong!
"Same glock trigger, same glock reliability" 😂😂😂
I love my P07 so much I bought another.
I was looking at the nocturne version but people having issues so I’ll stick to old reliable.
I have one but i may need another one.
That was me on the P01. I sold it to a friend during covid and was like, nah, I need one of these around
I have a S&W 686, and a CZ P07. But I have three P226's. And a P229 and a couple of P220's.
I know you don't like the Beretta 92; but it should be on the list. It went toe to to with the Sig P226 in the military trials and came out on top although the Sig did finish slightly ahead of it in the reliability test.
I also don't like the Beretta.
The Beretta sure is a good looking gun! No ugly guns for me 😁
The only revolver I own is a S&W, but it's a 340PD that I weak side pocket carry because Paul Harrell taught me the value of a pocket dump and I adapted that knowledge to what I learned from John Lovell and others about defensive knives along with the fact that I'm getting older and don't want to risk rolling around fighting for MY firearm against some cranked up miscreant in the prime of his, short, life waiting for my small knife holes to stop him from getting to my AIWB when I have WAY more confidence in a snub nose 357 magnum at grappling distance...
Every M&P owner appears to be in this comment section with a pitchfork 😂
no
i can guarantee you that there are m&p owners in this world that arnt in this comment section...
Bootlickers malding
I was expecting to see the Walther PDP on the list…..🤷🏽♂️
I absolutely love my PDP, one of my all time favorites!
Probably my favorite gun right now. Tho I just picked up an M9A4 centurion that’s giving it a run for its money
Why it just had a recall? Lol
@@UnknownUser_0000 no it didn’t lol. I just read their whole recall page it’s not on there.
@@UnknownUser_0000 where you seein that at? I just looked it up
Ill always be a glock guy.
Mr. and Mrs. Outlaw, could you guys start reviewing 10mm hanguns?
second this, we like 10mm
Autumn's Armory channel shoots a lot of 10mm.
Cz p07 is the most underrated pistol, and im glad this gentleman has given it a mention.
Great gun💫.
Tha- tha- first gun. I am truly stunned 😮😮😮
Guy leaves his M&P 2.0 Compact outside for three months and it fires, yet he doesn't have it on the list,GTFOH.
Most reliable firearms I have experience with and have at least 2k rounds through:
7. Springfield LW Operator (8k+)
6. CZ Shadow 2 (2k+)
5. HK MP5k (almost 2k)
4. CZ Scorpion Carbine (4k+)
3. Glock 34 Gen 5 (5k+)
2. FN SCAR 17 (4k+ combined between two different rifles)
1. Colt MT6400 (10k+)
My old Browning hi power and CZ 75B has been rock solid .
I have carried both. Still have the BHP.
My list: 1. Sig P226 2. Beretta 92 3. Glock 17 4. CZ 75. 5. S&W M&P
