I have an FG-345II and love it. The top is laminated spruce, rosewood fretboard, quality Yamaha tuners, cream binding around body top and bottom and on both sides of the neck and headstock, a high end feature. In 1981, the FG-330, FG-331, FG-350W and the FG-351SB were discontinued. The FG-312, FG-335, FG-336SB, FG-340, FG-345, FG-365S and FG-375S models were replaced by the same model number with “II” added to the end (ie FG-312II), which were made until 1985 and were replaced by the new FG-4XX series. The FG 345 II were produced from 1981 to 1985. They were $305 new in the early 1980's, which is over $700 today!
    Top: Spruce
    Back / Sides: Rosewood
    Neck: Mahogany
    Fingerboard: Indian Rosewood
    Bridge: Indian Rosewood
    Color(s): Natural
    Finish: Gloss
    Tuners: TM-25T

I once bought a used FG-345 at a Guitar Center Sidewalk Sale for $99. The action was awful but otherwise it was a great guitar. I had a local luthier fix the action and it's been a wonderful guitar ever since.

You really should check out those shops more often, buddy! You'd be stunned at what people end up pawning away these days. That was indeed a good find in that Yamaha guitar you showcased. I myself have been fiddling with the idea of trying my hand at a genuine hollow-body acoustic of late and finally bit on a brand new left-handed Yamaha FG-820 for just under $400 from a very reputable online seller today. Was originally gonna settle for one of the budget-level Epiphones like the popular DR-100 for instance, but those Yamaha FGs just seem to have A LOT MORE going for it within the same price range. Heck, the only thing I ever found "cheap" about these guitars is their ridiculously low pricing. In terms of build quality and level of performance, they're easily worth 2-3 times what they're listed at! "More Bang For Your Buck" ought to be their official slogan if it isn't already, lol...

Did you eventually buy the Yamaha? How was it I’m looking at some

@@ericv983 Yup, off of Sweetwater about two months ago along with the AG1-HC case that was specifically made for the FG line. Action might be a little too high for those who haven't broken in their playing fingers yet, but I needed to work on mine anyway (lol). Sound is excellent when tuned to near-perfect pitch, especially the sustain. Makes me wonder how much better it could sound had Yamaha finally allowed their Chinese factory workers to install TUSQ or even NuBone nuts and saddles on those "Green Label" FGs for once. Once I get my fingers properly conditioned on my FG820L, I'm giving it the full TUSQ treatment including the bridge pins and see just what kind of guitar I really got on my hands! So yeah, they're very good guitars for the prices they're listed at but they'll need a professional set-up to get the most out of 'em right away. Other brands you should also consider in that price range are Alvarez with their Artist line (almost made their AD-60L my final choice before settling on the FG820L), Washburn with their latest Heritage Series, and Seagull with their recent Entourage model. Best of luck in your search, buddy!
      ;-)

Some call these older yamaha guitars Martin killers. Not sure about this, but they are very good & affordable. Yes I'm a fan. Own 3 of them. Cheers from Brisbane , Australia

Big fan of 70s to mid 80s era Yamahas, solidly built laminate boxes that punch well above their weight. I think of lot brands from Japan from this time were hitting their stride, as far as affordable but reputable guitars, so much so that American brands like Guild and Martin got into the market as well by establishing their own Japanese offshoots: Madeira and Sigma, respectively.

Advantage of laminate is it can handle temperature changes better

That model was made between 1981 and 1985. It retailed for $305 back then.
The difference between the FG335ii and the FG345ii is: FG335ii is spruce/mahogany and the FG345ii is spruce/rosewood.

@@everysingleguitars Based on my research, it probably is considering the time period and where it was manufactured. I agree that it doesn't detract from how extremely well it plays for what many consider to be an "entry-level" acoustic guitar. Latest FG line does feature solid spruce tops (850 even sports a nifty solid mahogany top for an intriguing look/tone).
