Dude I absolutely love you for this video. I bought a vct SR already disassembled without an intake and with every single bolt in one big bag. 💀 So I'm on a bit of an adventure to build my SR. This has helped me so incredibly much! Thank you! ❤
Thanks for this video, I sprung a leak on the oil filter turns out it's possibly the hoses under the intake manifold. At least I know which hoses I need to change.
Awesome! I'm glad it helped you out. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if there is some other part of the engine that I should focus on. Thanks!
@@BrainPowerMotorsports I have the exact same motor so it's awesome watching your build so far. I just started on mine. I like the way you break down the fittings and details.
Thanks for the videos! I just realized that I have too many useless little hoses everywhere. Maybe the old EGR hose and more. I need to watch the video better, think better and learn English better. I believe that thanks to you I can find out why my engine is heating up too quickly
Did you find out why your car was heating so quickly? I have the same problem on my SE20 maybe your problem can help me with mine if you found the solution? 😁
Thanks very helpful. Just picked up my first SR which was built, set in the car and sat. So I’m now trying to figure out all the plumbing and what’s there and what can be simplified if at all possible. Thanks again
You rockstar!!! That video is a gift to the Sr20 community, really appreciated mate 🙏 subscribing was a no brainier.. trying to fix mine, heats up way to fast and and then doesn’t start when hot, maybe a leaking injector let’s see.. thanks again for the video 🙏 quick question if you have the time where does the valve cover top Center left breather pipe connect on an NA non turbo model, I have seen it just with a pipe pointing downward but I’m guessing that should create a huge vacuum leak, does it go in the intake pipe before the throttle body and after the MAF? And shouldn’t that bring oil to my already oily intake? 😅
Awesome video and not boring at all!!! Very informative and detailed , building my sr and this has helped big time . Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work ! Subbed :)❤
This is going to come in handy. Picked up a notchtop that we are putting into a 240sx and there are no cooling lines and no intake so I have a huge a task ahead of me :(
Great video really informative mate! Hopefully you can help me a little more, I recently bought an s14 and the previous owner capped 2 lines off that I believe were a part of the recirculation valve system! But I have no idea if they should be connected to anything now, one of the lines is the blow off valves line you referenced in your video which is currently capped. The other line next to it is connected to the carbon canister which I think has a split which also runs to the waste gate control solenoid valve. The other line that’s blocked off I am not sure where it’s coming from atm but it is larger? I currently have no blow off value but want to fit one to avoid turbo stall/flutter
Thx big help! Been searching for a vacum leak forever, used a boost leak tester and couldn’t hear anything. Car makes -1 vac psi at idle, a little strange. Bolt ons. Any ideas on where to look for this big of a leak?
That must be quite the leak! Best to test individual components or portions of the system. Cap off pre throttle and test the intercooler system and pipes. Then move on to the smaller components. For that big a leak, I’d suspect a coupler has popped off the piping, the intercooler has damage, or there is damage to a pipe. Good luck with finding the issue.
thanks for the vid, i wonder if those stock intake support brackets are necessary or i can delete them? i hate unnecessary components but i also don’t want to delete anything i need lol
I'm not entirely sure about the brackets. I removed them since I was putting in the aftermarket manifold, however I would imagine they were engineered for a reason on the stock intake. That unit is fairly heavy.
Thanks for watching (and sorry for the late reply). The throttle hose was blocked off when I bought the car. Not a problem for me as I'm going with an e throttle though.
At 13:48 What’s the black and red connector between intake manifold side under cylinder between 2 and 3 called? Ive tried looking it up but can’t find anything sadly.
That's too bad this seems to be missing info I need. My S14 SR20 has two extra vac nipples comming out the bottom of the TB (one of them capped off) but I couldn't spot them on yours, maybe S15 didn't have them? Also I beleive the WG line came off the hotpipe on the turbo side. Some of these lines should be for EVAP canister (again, at least for the S14).
Honestly ion paper it seems simple but coming from us market like n/a v8s this looks like so much clutter!! So many hose to hardline fittings, etc. Is there a kit that "declutters" or simplifies all the lines going everywhere?. I might be buying an s15 this summer. Sr20dets seem like such a mess to work on.
Hey great video. I have a question. I'm working on my notchtop sr20det and I had to take the fuel rail off to replace a bad injector. Now that I'm putting the fuel rail back on I noticed that when I bolt it down the rail tilts. I was wondering on your sr20det did your fuel rail have oem fuel rail spacers where the bolts go?
Hi there. Yes, there should be spacers. If you head over to Partsouq in the attached link, you should be able to see where the spacers are. partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/unit?c=Nissan&ssd=%24%2AKwGVobCCntLTy-HX4Nuzsc3Z-f7gkZ6TkoCThcPm2oLThJuBvdLAhcvGw4Wc-oGkwc6LhPuShYqD-c3SsdrY1MnD5tqBk5mIhZyYlZWKg86Zk86dhPuRhYqD1p3S1oWXl5TmhpGTz9KR2dDIxOfdg8af0taH_YOR-O2Dj97S3vj185KX4uT33NzMhZX-kvD1g4_e0tj49IOMh4SU_L-kwuGSg_2LhoPKitLWh4Tx4fXn7IHS0M7K1YOah4TyksvSwIeExMbRhJuDyNzMhcvTycOEm4PcuryF2wAAAAA0iqYl%24&vid=0&cid=&uid=418748&q=
I was lucky. When I bought the car, it already had the relocated oil filter. It is a "Tomei Oil Filter Block Relocator" on the block, and a "Greddy Oil Filter Relocation Kit" for the filter itself. If you search either of those, there are multiple websites that sell them. As for the stainless steel hardware, I usually keep a good supply on hand for my builds. I stock up on M6 and M8 bolts in various lengths.
A good trick for the lengths of the bolts is to look on partsouq.com at the diagrams for the vehicle. You will notice that often, when you hover over a bolt on the diagram, the part number that comes up will tell you what length and size the bolt is. Take the intake manifold diagram for a 97 Silvia with an SR20DET for example. One of the bolts called out is 08120-8201F. The 3 digits after the dash tells you the size. -820 is an M8, 20mm length. 08120-61228 is an M6, 12mm length. And 08121-0251F is an M10, 25mm length. I hope that all makes sense.
Without seeing the vehicle, it is a little difficult to diagnose, but I would recommend checking through all your wires and connectors. Check the MAF sensor and the cam sensor in particular. Also, would be worthwhile to check the fuel pump and make sure it is priming. If the fuel pump is working, move on to the ignition system and ensure there is spark. If you have fuel, and spark, move to the fuel filter. May be clogged up. Good luck with it!
Hi, subscribed as this is a great video. The pipe that goes on the end of the iacv hard-line, where does it go? Onto the intake pipe? Am trying to get my Sr up and running :)
Hi there. Sorry for the late response. UA-cam flagged your comment as spam for some reason, so I only just saw it. That pipe feeds air from the intake system to the IACV. The piping in my car is quite modified, so I'm not completely sure where it would feed from on the stock system. Best bet is to check out a service manual, or if you can't find one, go to Partsouq.com and find the parts diagram. It should also show you where you need to feed the hose to. Thanks for watching!
@@BrainPowerMotorsports hi, no worries I figured it out in the end :) thanks for responding though! And thanks for that website, definitely a new favorite

Hi there. Appreciate the feedback, and no disrespect taken. I could have made it more clear by using "notch top" for the description, for sure. I did however try to distinguish in that the title of the video specifically calls out S14 and S15. Yes, the S13 had a black top too. But I'd hope that the obvious VCT system, as well as the low ports, would make it clear as to which version I am working on. I also know that this is a hotly debated topic on the forums, and it seems everyone likes to have a go at dissecting it. I'd be happy to amend the description for the video to clear up any confusion. Thanks for watching!
