    Your video has inspired me to make this cutting board. Mine is cherry and red oak but I'm doing the boarder with walnut and ash. Thank you for the video.

    Beautiful job and display of no-rush, careful woodworking skills. Thank you! I would like to have seen how you might have mitered the ends of the frame pieces. It would be dicy to get all 4-corners aligned and tight but a nice touch.

    I wonder if you could tell us what the measurements are for all the cuts for this beautiful board?

    • @sumandl
      @sumandl  5 років тому +1

      sure! It's about 13'x11' . And the frame is 11/4 ' /1/2' / 1/4'

    Is the walnut and maple insert frame all end grain too? Lovely work.

    • @sumandl
      @sumandl  4 роки тому +3

      Yes every board or frame should be endgrain. That way it will not crack or move

  • @jackhealy8467
    @jackhealy8467 3 роки тому

    Beautiful work. Could you glue up the frame pieces all at once? You would have four bundles then glue 2 opposite sides at a time, reducing the time spent.

    What is the tool you're using at 9:23 into the video?

    • @sumandl
      @sumandl  4 роки тому +1

      It's the makita 5 inch oscilating sander

    Hi I know this is a long time ago but I just seen it and had a question, What was the purpose of the second cutting into strips when it was already flipped up to end grain? What does that do? Thank you.

    • @sumandl
      @sumandl  2 роки тому

      You get a nicer pattern and the board is much stronger... That way it will not crack so fast

    • @livinlife394

      @@sumandl Thank you so much, So to understand, once cut and flipped to end grain, glue it up them crosscut it again arrange pattern and glue up? Again thanks.

    Do you have any worries about shrinking and expanding of the different woods. Ive been concerned about combining wood especially with a boarder of different wood in a cutting board because of this. Absolutely beautiful final product!.

    • @sumandl
      @sumandl  4 роки тому +1

      This cutting board is daily used at the place i work and it is still in the same shape. It will be ok if you use kilndried wood and oriented it the right wat at the glue up. I made hundrets of boards like this in the past. Thank you so much for stopping by!

    I think the board you made is beautiful however when you don't give any measurements it tells me that you want people to see what you can do but you don't want them to be able to make it.
