    You are absolutely right to be positive about this keenly priced lens. I'm one of those people who got one as part of a kit with the Panasonic S5, except that I also received the 50mm f/1.8, which is virtually identical in shape, weight and size. I certainly won't be parting with either of them any time soon and with the zoom, it's finally allowed me to get rid of my Canon EF 20mm f/2.8, which has now become redundant. The Panasonic gear, as usual, doesn't deliver very interesting colour rendering or contrast, but it is functional and reliable, and for me that's generally been the case with them ever since the early days of micro four thirds. I don't understand how all these competing systems still exist, but as you say it's fun and often practical to interchange across various brands where possible. I hadn't previously considered the Leica CL, but it's a beautiful camera without question.

      There was a lot said about shrinkage of the camera market, but it certainly seems like there still is room (and customer) for everyone. Social media and current video-mania definitely helps with that. I love my CL and hope it will last me many years. There's just nothing like it!

    Hum thé price is good .. but if thé item on sale on eBay are from kits with S5 you should compare this with the price of the second market for the competitors.. mainly the sigma. Then as built for FF it’s quite big … for such an aperture which is poor (f3.5-f5.6) and even worse for aps-c. Again the sigma with its f2.8 seems more attractive. Then 18 vs 20 is better and more interesting (for me) than 60 vs 56mm. So yes the price is interesting and it seems to be ok between f5.6 and f8… but it is beaten on all other characteristics by the sigma for me.

      I struggle to find a single used Sigma lens while there is a ton of used Panasonics... and while I agree with you on te Sigma being a better choice for APS-C camera, I do make a point in the video why the Lumix may be better choice for some people.

      I agree. Unless I had a FF SL or Panasonic body to use this in conjunction with my CL, I would stick with the Sigma 18-50 zoom -- it is wonderful, smaller, lighter, and faster. Also, I don't see many options for the Panasonic Lumix 20-60mm on eBay presently under $350.

      @@paulrwallace $350 is a lot... I think I got lucky with mine! Still want to put it against the Sigma and Leica 'kit' lenses to see what's what.

    Hello Petr and others.I'm a photo enthousiast from the Netherlands. I really enjoy the content you make on your UA-cam channel. The gear selection you make and the insights you give remind me a lot of Matias Burling's videos. Your videos are also why I reach out to you. A few weeks ago I purchased the original Leica T with the sigma 45 f2.8 dg dn. I use the camera as a secondary camera next to the magnificent Q2. After your video about the hidden gem, the lumix s 20-60 I'm thinking about trading the sigma for the lumix. I hope you can give me your thoughts about it since I assume you use it on your CL. Is the image quality comparable and do I miss a lot in terms of depth of field? Of course the 20-60 is much bigger than the 45 but is it out of proportion on the T? I really hope you can help me out a little as I can't find any good information on the internet.

      Hi Niels and thank you for your kind words. The Pana 20-60 is a good lens but unless you have another full frame L-mount camera, the best optoion for your Leica T is the Sigma 18-50 f2.8. I have not tested it yet but everything points to the fact that it is the zoom to have on a crop sensor (M4/3) camera. Nothing else offers its combination of size, fast aperture and image quality (which is, allegedly, on par with the legendary 'prime zoom' Fuji XF 16-55 f2.8 lens).

      Thank you for your reply. I will look into the sigma then. I don't own a ff l camera, but was thinking of buying into FF l mount lenses for an eventual upgrade somewhere down the road. I'm familiar with the Fuji. Excellent zoom. Is the sigma on par with the Vario elmarit from Leica. I tested it once. Great lens if somewhat slow. Any other suggestions for a (compact) walk around lens for the T?

      @@nielsscholtens7931 You can always grab the Pana 20-60 later, there will be plenty of them around for not a lot of money. The Leica zoom is really good and I do use it but can't comment on how it compares to the Sigma zoom (I'll make a video on this). If I didn't own the Leica zoom I'd 100% get the Sigma just for the fast constant aperture. But the best lens (imo) for T (or TL2, CL) is the Summicron-T 23mm. I always thought I'm a die hard 50mm shooter but the 23mm on my CL (35mm FOV) is now covering 90% of my photography. It's small, sharp, with fast AF and great colours. But if you cannot justify the expense and want to future proof your lens collection, look at the full frame Sigma 24mm f3.5 - it's not a lot bigger and has an aperture ring. But... saying all this, you can just get the Sigma 18-50, set the zoom to '24' and go do some reportage photography. The results will be very good.

      Thank you Peter. I agree with you on the lumix 20-60. There are plenty around. The low cost was my main reason to go for it. Sigma 18-50 seems like a real good choice. The 23 f2 is probably great but I'm afraid it is too close to my Leica Q2 with the great 28 mm (and crop options). So I will probably look more for a 35 or 50 ish aps c option to make it a good addition to the Q2. Any experience with the 56 sigma. And is the sigma 30 mm 1.4 a good option?

    • @PetrGardianTV
      @PetrGardianTV  Рік тому

      Oh yes, with Q2 in the mix, the Sigma zoom makes total sense. Sigma 30/1.4 is a good lens and 56/1.4 is the best of their aps-c trio (I have the 16mm for video and it's very good).

    Thank you for this video. Is the battery consumption similar to the 18-56 or does the battery discharge much faster with the Panasonic 20-60 on the CL? Thanks

      Glad you liked it! I didn’t notice any difference in battery consumption. But CL is pretty bad in battery life anyway so it’s good to carry a spare battery regardless of the lens you use :)
