Phase 2 of the pergola is finally done and I'm so happy to have this dream of ours checked off our list! We've definitely been seizing the day more after everything the pandemic has taught us. Next in the backyard, we're going to be re-doing our raised garden beds with something even more fantastic and it may just happen to have an awesome built-in fountain! But I didn't tell you that.

Next time 😉, look into Powerlags. They rock. Easy to drive with an impact wrench.
And great looking pergola, plus the satisfaction of knowing you built it.

Thank you!
Hello from Corpus Christi! Fellow UA-camr here. Looking for some shade in my backyard so....new sub! Peace!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
How much did this cost you?
So are you still happy that you painted the beams? We are doing a 12x12 with the new Umbrella Top. I can't wait as it has SHIPPED!!!!
Yes! I’m very happy with it! I know they’ll last a good long while being painted!
Why cedar instead of PT when you were just going to stain it black?
Because it’s a higher quality wood that will fair better outdoors
Hi from Magnolia, Tx.
Hey thanks for watching!
New subscriber you guys are awesome 😎
Ah thanks for subscribing and watching! We appreciate you!
Great job guys, beautiful!...What do you think about using the TOJA GRID brackets and post anchors with galvanized steel posts and in general to build the pergola?
That’s something I would talk to Toja Grid about. I had lots of questions through my planning and their customer service is great about answering questions!
Hi Olivegrey Ave! I can’t seem to find the vid/link referred to for the work needed to fit the lumber into the brackets. You guys are great!

New Subscriber here. really enjoying your channel.
I’m so glad to have you here!
Hi! Ihow many boards did you attach to your house where you removed the fascia to support the brace and wood? Thank you for the info!
We attached just one big ledger board that was a 2x12.
@@olivegreyavenue oh ok. Thank you! I’m inspired to build my own! You two work so well together❤️
@@jaymanu8311 it’s a great product and really super easy! Thank you so much 🥰
@@olivegreyavenue what color did you paint your pergola?
@@jaymanu8311 the Cabot solid color paint/stain color I got is just “black” nothing special 😊
This came out really nice! By any chance, after a year is there any sag on that 16 ft span? I want to do something similar
Nope we haven’t noticed any sag at all!
Hi! I am having trouble finding 6x6 cedar posts, could you by chance link where you got yours from Home Depot? I can't find them on the website either. Looks awesome!
I can’t find them on lowes website anymore but these are the posts that will fit those brackets without having to shave them down: rstyle.me/cz-n/gt5ehgcxgr7
It turned out beautifully!!! Did you have to get a permit to do it?
Every county is different with permits, in our location it’s not required if it’s not attached to your house.
@@olivegreyavenue But it is attached to your house...your patio cover is an integrated cover isn't it? Just trying to understand....
@@vagabond_trader unless neighbors complain who’s going to find out
Those are great brackets
@@joniboulware1436 we think so!
Did you have to cut the 4x4 in a 45 degree angle to fit inside the 45 dregree brace bracket?
Yes they were cut at a 45 degree angle
@@olivegreyavenue thank you
What color , brand was the paint you used for it? I like it👍
It’s just color “black” by cabot
Looks great! Side note; you got an ass like an onion, brings a tear to my eye!😜
Looking at a toja for my backyard, but sadly I'm renting. Do you think the Toja anchors made to anchor it to the earth would be sufficient for TX weather?
I would think so but I haven’t tried them!
Hello love the outcome. Im looking on make a pavilion 15x20 in my yard. Just for reference about what was your total cost for your pergolas?
It was about 5k
@@olivegreyavenue wow just a fraction of what you where quoted. I was quoted around 30k. The crazy part is that i actually considered paying that. After seeing your video the wife and i are inspired to DIY it. Thank you.
@@fidelmendoza5866 we really did want to hire this one out but no one could give us what we wanted even at those crazy prices so we did this!
Do your beams move much out in the yard side to side?
No they don’t move at all!
Did you seal the wood? It’ll last long if you do.
Yes! I provided detail of what exactly we used in the phase 1 video but we used an acrylic stain and seal for the black beams and a waterproofer for the natural looking ones!
Nice work, how much did you guys spend building it?
It was about $3500 all together and we got quotes from $15k-30k from contractors!
Hi! Do you mind sharing the entire width and heights of your pergolas?
The taller one is just over 11’ tall and about 12’x12” and the shorter one is about 8’ tall and about 8’x16”’.
@@olivegreyavenue Thank you! You two did an awesome job! So I just want to save myself some brain power and just copy your design lol
@@kimlawrence4995 thank you! Oh a lot of brain power went into figuring it all out for months and months
🎉🎉🎉
🤗🤗
Toja Grid is cool but way too expensive for how thin the metal is. As the wood warps it will bend the 14g steel and $600 just in 2x4 brackets is insane. Regardless, looks great.
It seems extremely sturdy so I think we’ll be fine 😊
