I don't think anyone truly understands how much skill, as a gamer, not just a SHMUP player, to pull off something like this takes. This player is beyond words, just absolutely incredible. Having owned this game, you truly need to play it for yourself or have a SHMUP background to understand just how insane this display is. For anyone wondering, my best and only SHMUP I can 1CC is Afterburner Climax (rank top 10s on PS3), and after hundreds of hundreds of hours practicing for a steady period of 3 years. I play a LOT of Ace Combat so that helped, but it DOES NOT compare to this, Gradius V, or R-Type Final in difficulty, and that's just scratching the surface. Ikaruga is designed to ALMOST be unbeatable and is carefully curated on every mode, much less Hard, to be the most mentally and hand-eye coordination intense experience you'll never get to truly have. But that's the nature of a SHMUP! Certain ones are made for certain people, but I think naturally some just stand above others. Then there's IKARUGA. There's really nothing else that compares. (and I TRIED, it's just not for me. Kudos to all the Polarity Pilots out there; I suck at Darius too 🤭) Amazing footage.
The pilot dies as his ship explodes right before the boss dies in the end. He doesn't know that he's attained victory before his death, he only knows that he'll use every last second fighting and striving.
They say a man does not die until he achieves something. Regardless of the difficulty, man does not give in. Therefore, a man dies with no regrets. Well, now we know that was not the case for the pilot.
There's absolutely no way in hell that this was done by a human, and I refuse to believe that it was. Whoever did this is either a super intelligent and elaborately-programmed AI, or a divine being who transcends all earthly logic
Bruh, this game is 100% super impossible to play or complete. Only Japanese players did it. Nobody from America, Europe, Australia or Latin America ever did it.
The game developers had to have done this on purpose; make a really spiteful joke: "Say, this game is really hard to get through without dying once. Let's make it that the ship explodes and the player dies anyway after the final boss fight." Smart-asses.

I came in this video knowing nothing about what the game mechanics were about, and thought it was a traditional top view shooter. At first I was under the impression that you were cheating or something, and then I read about the polarity mechanic online. And I went :O. To sum up: Your gameplay is so impressive that it looked like you were cheating. Great play mate.
Am I the only one who thinks that the director of the company Treasure, Hiroshi Iuchi was a ex-konami worker? Now I know why after he created his own company, but still gave help to Konami for the making of Gradius V for PS2
Does anyone else think that the rust-soil-and-steel palette of the backgrounds makes it easier to see the light bullets than the dark? Annoying, especially since the two bullet types are supposed to be interchangeable.
I know plenty of people enjoy the game, but I've never been able to understand why. It looks like work rather than fun. But then I don't have to play it so we're all ok.
Jordan Randall McKendrick Cave has made a lot of games that are 30 minutes and just as deep. Dodonpachi, Ketsui, Mushi, etc. are all 30 minutes and people have been trying to master their scoring systems for nearly a decade. Not saying Ikaruga isn't also great, but it's not the only amazing shmup out there.
***** I will give you that. BuyMeThingsNow = +1 point At the same time, I find that it is much more of an art form in Ikaruga (and its predecessor, Radiant Silvergun). CAVE shooters are steeped in difficulty and stacked with complex scoring systems, but the (forgive me for saying this) complex simplicity of the two Treasure shooters' scoring mechanisms do a lot more with a lot less time.

thank you for your precise, beautiful observation. Due to your comment, I was able to reconsider attitude of what is to be a real man.

Well, now we know that was not the case for the pilot.
Who ever did this has to confirm if they are even human , my goodness that was beautiful game play

I love this game. Cant pass lvl 3 and i still love it.
Its hard to innovate space shooters and this game
does it beautifully just beautifully.

I've been saying for a while that Ikaruga is the closest that gaming's ever come to ballet. This is an astounding demonstration of why.
Boss at 11:19 is just too much. I remember dying so much on this bastard and this guy pulls some genius-level shit. _Unreal_...
this guy is actually unreal. some of those precision shots to keep up combos. holy smokes.

This is mindblowing. if we ever have to send a man on a spaceship to fight off millions of evil aliens, I believe we've found the perfect man for it.
This is amazing, that Player can not be Human
You are beyond Ikaruga. You need to be on the Touhou and Perfect Cherry Blossom stuff.
it looks like we have 3 people who failed too finished this game.
This game is a mindfuck. Awesome play, dude!

Best playthrough of the game.
Guys, it's not just a 1cc, but also a no-damage run!
And his score is just over 30 million!
IKARUGAがIKAKUSAに見えた自分は心がよごれている
This game lol I simply cannot. It is so fun but I feel like I slowly go insane as I play it. So damn hard and trippy
No-miss, hard mode, AND a legit non-tool-assisted run? Christ.

This guy never seen outdoors before
SWY looks like a Yakuza member tbh

This is amazing, how long did it take you to reach this level ?
Me game over at ch4: fuaaaak
This guy drops his combo at ch4: faaaaaaakkk
When people talk about video games being art, this is what they are talking about. Or should, at least.
Shadow of the Colossus actually won an art award years ago.
the most incredible play.. O.O
Dear god, just imagine trying to fly through the Stone-Like's attack phase on Radiant Silvergun, but with Ikaruga style!
Does anyone else think that the rust-soil-and-steel palette of the backgrounds makes it easier to see the light bullets than the dark? Annoying, especially since the two bullet types are supposed to be interchangeable.
"Near-perfect" ... I came here expecting to see at least one death.
chain was lost once in chapter 4
ikaruga was kalle proyect RS2 but they change the name to ikaruga so... ikaruga is a sentimental sequel of radian silvergun
what version of ukaruga is this?
i'm thinking dreamcast but i'm not sure
That's the Dreamcast version. I think it's the only version to show Shinra walking outside the Ikaruga during the mode select.
Awesome gameplay.
U are a crazy game genius!
Absolutely fantastic.
Incredible skill
That was beautiful
this is in 60fps now kek
Very nice run
Awesome!!!
Boia Faus!
Ich habe das spiel für Game Cube und XBOX 360° Arcade .... aber das original für Dreamcast ist unschlagbar
Asian skills!
wow
This game is coming to PC:

oh it should be arcade version.
I know plenty of people enjoy the game, but I've never been able to understand why. It looks like work rather than fun. But then I don't have to play it so we're all ok.
uh, okay i'll bite. why?
You have to be an asian god, brah. Are you even human? This show me the pathetic I can be as a gamer. Congratz for this score, man!!
Only the Dreamcast controller was capable of that stunt. Xbox 360 and Gamecube users are virtually incapable of doing so due to the controller alone.
gg
ballet? how so?
am i watching a TAS...?
+Vincent Newkirk This is a legitimate run played by Yusemi-SWY off of the original arcade PCB
Pretty damn amazing.
Are you a wizard?
This has to be a TAS.
Right?
No, it isn't. This is a legitimate run played by Yusemi-SWY off of the original arcade PCB.
OMG! And i cant beat level 1 without loosing a life xD
That first boss is somehow even more awesome than mecha-birdo from I Wanna be the Guy
LOL
:O
This is played by human? O.O!
no. it's superplay, so it's played by an emulator.
pgm a 3:30 ....

This is by no means a terrible game, but I don't understand why it's so hyped.
i always thought the same thing, until i played it. sometimes watching isnt enough, you gotta "feel" it. so give it a shot, its not expensive ;)
It's a good game but not my favorite shmup.
