The iFixit toolset has the secure bit for Samsung 2.5in SSDs. The screw under the label is a warrantee/tamper screw so they know if it's been open. You don't need a thermal pad for an SSD that runs on the Sata bus. The transfer rate isn't fast enough to heat the silicon.

Question: does the SSD need to be formatted on the Atomos itself or on the computer OS that will be getting used, before being used on the Atomos? Cheers

The most annoying thing of the Atomos caddy is that I can't read the ssd inside, using my sata usb reader. Basically it doesn't fit in the reader plug because the aperture of the caddy is too small. Will be the same with this Angelbird AtomX alternative caddy?????? 😅
