Instead she says she shouldn't have put all that into moans and says that she'll follow moana anywhere and proceeds to support her 2. Tekka being te fiti(I probably butchered the spelling) was brilliant. I didn't see it coming at all and I love that such a small thing can so effectively make you think "oh. So it's not actually a villain. It's just a shell of who she used to be"

I know it's a bit morbid, but I find it humorous when they make little jabs like the pig being sad at her eating pork because Pigs in nature of omnivorous and would even eat another pig if need be. They do a similar thing in Lilo and Stitch too when Lilo freaks out about Nani suggesting a Tuna sandwich for Pudge the fish. Most fish are just an Omnivorus and opportunistic if not more so when it comes to eating smaller fish. As someone who's watch many nature shows, these little details are funny to me because I know it's purely for the kids.
Yeah even when I first heard Lilo say that when I was a kid I was thinking "uhm... what do you think fish eat? They're stuck in the ocean, they don't have many options other than fish" 😂
The fish logic I’ve actually heard from grown adults so it’s even funnier. I wonder if they think sharks are not fish or something. Which is weird since they’d say that whales were probably fish.
This entertains me on another level because Tamatoa says he ate his grandma and that is very true to life - coconut crabs have two predators. Humans, and other coconut crabs:D
5:05 Fun fact about newborn turtles and this little ritual: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own. This scene is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.

The movie and all the cultural elements of the characters are based on Oceanic (Polynesian/Micronesian/Melanesian) lore and society while the non-English music is sung in the Samoan, Tuvaluan, and Tokelauan languages specifically.

Such a masterpiece! Loved seeing it in theaters. It easily is in my top 10 favorite animated films of all time. Perfect balance of everything, and beautiful to boot.
The trend of Disney showing other cultures is amazing in general but I got to see first hand the importance of inclusion. I was at Disney World earlier this year and songs from Moana are used multiple times during the fireworks show at Magic Kingdom. I was standing behind a family for the entire show, the parents were an older couple made up of a white dad and a Filipino mom and their adult daughter was with them. As soon as the first song from this movie started the daughter started weeping. I'm not talking gentle tears falling down her cheeks, I mean seconds away from ugly crying. She sang every word to every Moana song with tears in her eyes after that. As a grown woman she finally got to see someone who looks like her be a hero in a Disney movie. Everyone should have that chance.
The reason every song is amazing is because it's Lin-Manuel Miranda who did the lyrics! (He made the Hamilton-musical and later did Encanto for Disney. He's also working on the upcoming live-action Little Mermaid)
I love Moana so much. I saw it in theaters twice and bought it the day it came out. The way the water was animated was absolutely amazing and every time I watched it I got so thirsty lol

This is a personal favourite and comfort film that got me through my high school years, and I have honestly lost count of how many times I’ve watched it 🤣 Pretty much everything in this film is amazing! Music by Lin Manuel Miranda and Mark Mancina is beautiful, the characters feel so real and the animation is breathtaking!
Moana is great! I was surprised with how good it is actually because going in I thought it wasn't going to be very good and if I'm honest I only really watched it because of friend of mine asked me to for a project she was putting together. But I'm glad I did. It had some nice emotional moments and some fun songs and deserves to be on the list of great modern Disney movies. Yay! Great reaction
Yess!! I love Moana! And you’re totally right, the songs are amazing. If you’re looking for another animated movie to get you emotional, I’d highly recommend Spirit: stallion of the cimarron. It’s such an underrated movie with an amazing soundtrack. I’m certain you’d love it
Literally every time I watch this movie I cry it never fails. Watching you be openly emotional speaks to me so much because I am ridiculously emotional I can cry about anything especially Disney Pixar
i was SO emotional while watching this in the theaters! i think it was a mixture of the stunning visuals, beautiful music and amazing story, but i also kept crying at literally the least sad moments lmao
Moana was funnier then I thought it was going to be. The songs are catchy, and I absolutely love the Oceanic culture. That said, regarding horror movies, I recommend The Others, if you haven't seen it.
Moana was a unique film for its beautiful Polynesian culture and it was represented so good here. The soundtrack was epic as well and the voice performances were amazing as well. Very interesting to note that a live-action adaptation of this film is in development with Dwayne Johnson playing Maui.
I cry everytime i watch this movie, i connect to it in so many ways 🤷❤️ I am Maori from New Zealand, cousins to the people portrayed here and i grew up hearing stories told by my Grandmother and Great Grandmother of our cultural history, our ancestral line of chieftans going all the way back to and before our tribal waka (ocean voyaging craft) made land off the west coast of the north island of New Zealand and our people settled. Traditionally, this is how our history is passed down, through stories, song, tattoo and they are also symbolically carved into wooden panels which adorn our boats, homes and meeting places. We are master navigators of the oceans, sea faring people and our legends also includes that of Maui and his magical fish hook and that of Mother Earth and Father Sky. I love this film. Its beautiful and pays tribute to culture and my Polynesian family, all who bear distinct similarities in physical features, Language and cuisine, heritage and occupy many islands throughout the pacific ❤
Thank you so much for this reaction. This movie is very dear to my heart. This movie was my late love’s favorite movie, and I remember seeing this with her back in the theatre with a college friend of ours. We’d always compared ourselves to Moana and Maui. She even named her dog Hei Hei after the chicken. I can still recall when we went to an aquarium and got to watch the dolphins. I’d like to think that would’ve been her spirit animal. 👩🏻🦱🧔🏻♀️💚🐷🐔🌊
Some scientists think weather was responsible for the Long Pause. Huge tidal waves and sustained El Nino winds and storms like typhoons probably had something to do with it.
I'm so glad you watched Moana. Moana is my most favorite disney princess and love intrest. Maui is inspired the Hawaiian Demigod himself. Te Ka i really thought she was Pele the goddess of Volcanoes and Fire. Moana who is Spiritually connected to water and the ocean, she is like Namaka the Goddess of Water and The Sea, Moana is a great representation of Oceania, including Polynesia.
I read something that said the chant/dance that Maui did after Te Ka destroyed his hook is based off a traditional New Zealand haka (ceremonial war dance) that warriors do when they know they won't be coming back from battle. A culturally integrated way of showing that Maui was ready to die defending Moana. It still blows me away.
The ocean chose Moana because of her HUMANITY. Maui couldn’t do it, he's shoot first ask questions later. The ocean couldn’t do it because water hurts Te Ka.
Those guys on the tapestry are the directors John Musker and Ron Clements making a cameo. This is also the last film Musker did before he retired but it seems Clements is still at Disney but what he currently does there is unknown.
Fun Fact: Lilo and Stitch was Essentially the Ground work for this movie Until Lilo and Stitch came out Disney had no plans for movies in the Polynesian setting but then Lilo and Stitch changed that and you can thank Chris Sanders the Creator/Voice Actor of Stitch for that.
I've always loved animated movies more we can learn so much from kids movies the resont lesson was how to deal with my father's death last year and Moana, Coco and my all time favorite Lion King.

This is one of the cutest reaction videos of yours that I've seen. Haha, just loved how you were getting into it and showing that you were loving it. I loved watching this movie with my sister when was little, it's a beautifully done movie.
I’m so glad to see you enjoyed it!
I’m certain you’d love it
Yes, you’re right! Wow, I totally forgot. But yeah, same here!
Literally every time I watch this movie I cry it never fails.
Watching you be openly emotional speaks to me so much because I am ridiculously emotional I can cry about anything especially Disney Pixar
Granny has so much sass makes it hurt more when she goes
i was SO emotional while watching this in the theaters! i think it was a mixture of the stunning visuals, beautiful music and amazing story, but i also kept crying at literally the least sad moments lmao
The work of directors John Musker and Rob Clements has evolved with Moana!
Newcomer Auli’i Cravalho succeeded as the lead heroine with her singing!
Moana was funnier then I thought it was going to be. The songs are catchy, and I absolutely love the Oceanic culture. That said, regarding horror movies, I recommend The Others, if you haven't seen it.
Te fiti did not deserve to be that beautiful she was mesmerizing so pretty
Moana was a unique film for its beautiful Polynesian culture and it was represented so good here. The soundtrack was epic as well and the voice performances were amazing as well. Very interesting to note that a live-action adaptation of this film is in development with Dwayne Johnson playing Maui.
I love the showing of Polynesian culture here, traveling the seas island to island. Beautiful stuff, excellent songs, great voice acting.
28:51 that was improvised by the voice actress!
Cody: We have a chicken on the run!
Me: Chicken Run!
Cody did you know that the actor who played Moana was only 15 years old at the time she is 22 now and she is Hawaiian
9:20 moana is a polynesian character :)
16:24 remember the story she was telling in the beginning to the babies including baby Moana
This is my go to movie when I’m laying in bed sick. Just makes me feel better
38:34 Fun fact: this is actually true! Polynesians DID stop wayfinding for a period of time, and nobody knows why.
Some scientists think weather was responsible for the Long Pause. Huge tidal waves and sustained El Nino winds and storms like typhoons probably had something to do with it.
My absolute favourite titbit about this movie:
The voice of Hay-Hay is also the voice of the old man that inquires about eating him. :)
cody, don't forget about the post-credit scene! it cracks me up lol
This movie is so emotional and I love you're welcome as well.😍😍
Moana is one of my favorite Disney movies. And it's my favorite 2016 movie
41:04
Cody goes into full Stefan from SNL mode
Cody : no no don't take it 40:48
The water : umm imma take it
Judging by the size, I believe the grandma actually became an eagle ray. The biggest in the ray family.
I really love this movie.
Moana was an amazing movie.
Maui and the chicken are the best ones
This movie along with Frozen is a masterpiece. And don't get me started on the songs.
16:30 not just that: it was keeping her alive this whole time. Hence why she passes away not long after giving it to Moana.
You’re correct on that but New Zealand didn’t come up with that. The people of Samoa did
@@ItsTotallyCody My bad! I guess that's what fact-checking is for
The ocean chose Moana because of her HUMANITY.
Maui couldn’t do it, he's shoot first ask questions later.
The ocean couldn’t do it because water hurts Te Ka.
I love that the chicken is voiced by Alan Tudyk! 😆
Fun fact: traditional wayfinding is still practiced even today!
I absolutely love Cody's laugh! It's just so infectious 🥰
15:13 Lin Manuel Miranda wrote most (if not all) of the songs here
Idk if you've seen Hamilton, but you should!❤
"When Cody watches movies that his fans recommend"
Cody: You're welcome
Those guys on the tapestry are the directors John Musker and Ron Clements making a cameo. This is also the last film Musker did before he retired but it seems Clements is still at Disney but what he currently does there is unknown.
Fun fact: Moana’s Dad is also Boba Fett from the Star Wars franchise!
I thought I recognized that voice!
@@ItsTotallyCody It took me awhile too!
WAIT THAT WAS BOBA FETT'S VOICE ACTOR?!?!
@@GracemarieJohnson2763 Yes. That’s Temuera Morrison
My Nephew loves this movie!
15:13 - "Why is every song in this movie perfect?" Lin-Manuel Miranda. XD
Baby Moana is so cute and adorable 🥰 😊😊😊
Lol 😂 the “Manta Ray… Said the wrong thing because I am dumb” quote from you got me.
I really love Disney movies they always make wonderfull and beautiful music.
23:58 she almost sweared, thank you Disney
I'm new zealand so here's a fact:
"Probably not a fact"
Fact: Moana in Maori language means ocean
A suggestion:
You may not understand Maori language but there's a version of it and u should totally watch it!
