The F-15 was relying on old intel from “Charlie”stating the mig could not perform a negative G pushover and learned the hardway.
I got to say I have a soft spot for the F-5. I think the key to not dying in the F-5 is just not pulling too hard and using your small profile to help get out of sticky situations. I know that when I pull too hard in the F-5 it sometimes does a high speed stall.

I saw an interview with a UASF Aggressor Squadron pilot who flys the T-38 against F-22 in training. He said it’s not uncommon for an experienced T-38 pilot to “shoot down” rookie F-22 pilots. It must be big wake up call for the new Raptor driver getting beaten by 50+ year old trainer.
Have to remember that the Aggressor squadrons when they were equipped with the F5 and A4 often scored highly against pilots flying more sophisticated aircraft. Great video
True, But they were stripped down, super light f-5s and A4s with thrust to weight ratios comparable to the 4th gens they were fighting
The tiger F5 is one of the best fighters ever built, but sadly also one of the most forgotten, in Mexico we have a couple of tigers still in service, they were our protectors who protected us from possible Cuban aggression, which more than once approached dangerously, although it is already seeking its replacement, such as the Grippen NG, the tigers were true warriors , a greeting from Mexico
I see the Gripen as the next F5, its got that 'I may not look like much, but you better not underestimate me' vibe for the 21st century.

Too bad my country (Malaysia) already retired our F-5 back in 2015. They are really capable fighter and reconnaissance role.

There's a running joke in our squadron (if you can call it that). If you ever lose visual on an F-5, count to 3 and then check six. He'll be there every single time.

@@ironsideeve2955 There's a couple factors. First is, it doesn't really turn all that well after all. At a given speed, any of the teen-series fighters will make a lot more lift and have a lot more turn rate available to them. The F-5 is very light even for its size, largely due to the extraordinarily compact engines with a very high thrust to weight ratio. Especially compared with contemporary fighters like the Phantom, Starfighter, etc, it had a good advantage as their wings were even smaller relative to their much greater weight. In order to get the F-5 to turn with an F-15, you really need a surprising amount of speed on the plane. The wings lose efficiency pretty rapidly with AoA, so high speed and low alpha is the way to go. It doesn't have the horsepower to sustain the speeds it needs to pull the G it needs, but against a lesser pilot you can make a hit before the clock (airspeed) runs out. Especially if they lose sight of you!

Brazilian f5 and iranian kowsar they are better than f20 because it has AESA radar systems

The F-5 has one huge advantage over the F-15: small size. In a visual fight (especially if more than 1v1), that can make all the difference, assuming equal pilot proficiency. The F-5 is extremely hard to see, particularly when head-on.
Now of course in this video, the F-15 was very poorly flown and this only shows that the pilot can make the biggest difference no matter what.
Finally some love shown for the F5E, such an underrated module imo
Rumor has it that a Soviet captured F-5 proved to be a more agile dogfighter than what they had in service at the time.

it's been my favorite module for years. And i own almost all of them. it's compete so you never have to worry about signing in and now you don't know how to fly it (like the F18 adding the alignment recently). it's so simple, and can technically perform all roles (technically). i just wish it at least had the bombing computer from the F-86.

@@Reza-sl4jm It is. Simple to fly and a bit underpowered, which will make you improve your maneuver skills to survive.
Never mind the 28 degrees per second, look at that 13.2G turn! Jet should be broken...I guess that's why people say the FM still needs some work. Still, the energy equation is an oppressive master and that was good fighting to keep up with the 4th gens. It's doable (sorta), but tough!
The F 5 must have its positives because the aggressor squadrons used them and would have been against F15s in that time period. Im sure the aggressor pilots got plenty of F15 scalps. Hahah Great vid as always :)

The F-5 family have better roll rate than any big jet (Tomcat/Eagle/Flanker) out there. No way you can get it in a scissors contest.
Also, the F-5E instantaneous turn rate is almost the same as the F-15, so not everything is lost at the beginning of the dogfight.
It is one of the best modules aout there for the price. Lovely plane, easy to fly and has great capabilities in good hands.

I've heard it theorized that being as the f5 is so cheap to operate, it could still make sense for smaller countries to use it over more modern aircraft so that they could train more and have more jets in the air than they otherwise would have. Maybe you could put that to the test with a 2v1
Sure that could work. There's no way we could shoot down all of them. I mean our F22s and F15s would need maintenance or maybe we run out of AMRAAMs.
I was often wondering about lead turning and why some opponents in PVP don’t do it and I’m glad you explained it. It gives you a huge advantage in a dogfight. I’m sure that F15 pilot will learn from all his mistakes and keep improving.
judging a good lead turn is critical for head on bfm. if you don't lead turn you're simply giving the other guy angles for free.

My country only has F-5's. I got to hop into the cabins tho, such an awesome plane.
If the pilot detected such an aggressive lead turn, I would have continued straight under full afterburners to get separation and then I would have gone vertical on the F5. Reset and fight to your fight. As you said, an experienced F15 pilot would not lose against the F5 unless pure luck.

I felt like your attitude in that round 3 is how Até plays pretty much every time. Those few rounds you fire on the first turn, even if they're unlikely to hit, seem to have a major effect on the rest of the fight.
I agree, its almost more of a mind game than just aircraft performance.
Im glad you showed the F5s capability. I like history. The planes from the 40s to the late 60s when the Tomcats and Eagles rolled out. The F5 back then was even to the F15 in the trials. Think i still have it on vhs, mid 90s. Back then internet was something knew and not for evry man. How about that.. ⭐
Great video GS! The F-15 should have spotted the F-5E lead turn an followed up with a high yo-yo. The F-5E would have no energy to follow the Eagle and would have been dead meat.
The Tiger is a lot more fun if you fly with a wingman and fight like a bandit. If your not cheating your losing (especially in an F-5E).

Thus is what they used to do at top gun. The F-5 was supposed to simulate fighting against a Mig-21. I suppose they still do it.

Not so, WOW is all about catching a BB with its turrets pointed at somewhere else than you. If you can pop out of smoke at 50kts upon detection, launch a brace of torps into his side while he's still turning his turrets, you win. I miss that game :(
To the F15 pilot; I know its tempting to look back, see him, and reverse your turn, but its exactly the wrong thing to do, a deadly bad habit.
Try to get better at using the verticle to exploit your power. Pull lighter on the stick and keep that speed up.

Side note, I was curious in fight 1 why your gunsight wasn’t in A-1 mode , it would have helped a bit in aiming. Take it from someone who mainly flies it .

There's a good reason that the USAF have used the F5 as an aggressor plane for so long
Take him to the deck and remove the down yo-yo maneuver. If you can get him in to mountains or canyons DO IT. The F-15 should hit afterburners and use his climb rate and fight you in vertical mode in an up and down fight.

The F-5 was matched with the F-14 Tomcat to see which was the better dogfighter. The F-5 won. They put a "Fuzz Buster Radar" in it. The F-14 could not maintain a lock on it.

@@tomdtom5407 This was done in the early '80s when they were looking for a role for the F- 5. As for your driver. I don't think he was even born then. Lol The F - 5 goes back to the Vietnam War. It was sold to the South Vietnamese AF. Twenty aircraft if I recall correctly.

@@kindanyume if it where not for the F4 the navy would not have had top gun and earned that reputation for pulling through and beating politicians shitty policies. In reality the US could have just bombed the hell out of north veitnams ports and blockaded them from imports and they would have not had any new AAA or new mig 21s. Because of the F4 being what it was it made the navy better and the air Force could have also been just as good at that time if it where not for the shitty leadership that got the pilots killed though stupid outdated taticts.

what if F-15 just climbed vertically while F-5 is lead turning. Make this a vertical fight. (F-15 can outclimb F-5 by a wide margin, at least in real life), so F-15 can just boom and zoom the F-5, it can also just acclerate away from F-5 since this is a pure gun fight and there is no missle. I dont play DCS, but in IL2, Me262 can just sit back, take coffee break while shoting down a Zero (which in relative terms is what F-15 vs F-5 is) (or is there some kind of rule with this fight that I am not aware of)?

Congratulations you are the only person to ever shoot down an F-15.
The F-5 series has been the bane of many a pilot in dissimilar air combat for decades and continues to do so. Your guns don't seem to mimic the correct rate of fire as seen in the slow motion footage. Each of the two Pontiac M39A2 Revolver cannons fires at a rate of 1500 rounds per minute for a total of 3000 rounds per minute together. Though the pilot does have the option of only arming one gun at a time.
Veteran Tiger Drivers have been embarrassing F-15s and F-16s for decades...
