Why can't we just go back to basic mechanical vehicles that get you from point A to point B? I want a truck that can tow lots of weight, i don't need all the bells and whistles that just add complexity to the damn thing.

and of cause who should pay for the missing emission standards - come to germany and watch the picture of bavarian forrests with needle trees that had 0 needles anymore .
That has been in the 1980s due to CO2, bad air pollution - as far as your eyes could look a scenery of WW1: trees without needles , all dead.
You want that back in the USA ?
What else do you want back , no medicine against cancer, the spanish flu and what not ?
ICE is dead at least in europe and the manufacturers do know that here and are moving ahead, they do not hire ice engineers anymore, the suppliers are reducing production volumes big time. Each month further and our CO2 prices are increasing the gas bill cause each year the prices are increasing. Put 40 cent per year on top of the gallon price or 2 $ in 5 years you will learn to compare prices and decide far more economical than today.
USA was the market leader with Tesla for so many years - and now it is BYD from China, missed opportunity I would say.

I saw a video about it and there was a fair point… a lot of people love the prices of the basic, no frills cars, but how many customers would actually buy a car like that in 2024? Most customers actually like tech, they like that added safety feature, it makes the NEW car purchase a little more worth it.

I'm a Toyota guy, I've have had over 10 Toyotas throughout the years. In 2020, I traded a 2019 4Runner for a Colorado ZR2 Bison with the baby Duramax. It was an incredible vehicle, and I regret trading it.
The Chevrolet Colorado of that generation were a far better value than the Tacoma. I currently have a 2019 Tundra with 38K on the clock and a 2017 Highlander with 120,000 miles. We really want to get a new vehicle to replace the Highlander, but there's no Toyota's that are worth the price.

Excellent video. Some in the industry have stated that many dealers are trying to hold out because they fattened their wallets during the pandemic. If true, those dealers cannot hold out much longer without dropping prices dramatically. Also, what happened to dealer service departments covering upwards of 100 percent - some even 120 percent - of the entire dealership’s costs? That’s what these dealers should focus on and move the darn metal already. It’s absurd.

Heck, Chevy dealers are discounting Stingrays 11-12 percent. I really think that most car companies don’t mind if some of their dealers go under. The “traditional” manufacturers would love to have the control that the EV manufacturers have over distribution. Not really a good thing for consumers though. If companies don’t have decent choices at 30k in development, they will not have a future.

TARIFS = no need to lower the prices cause foreign cars will become more expensive
the end of the big 3 as we know it - cause they will be beaten big times in the coming 4 years cause the rest of the world is still in competition but the big3 are not and becoming fatter and fatter
REMEMBER: Marketshareleader in germany in the 60s far ahead of VW was who ?
GENERAL MOTORS with far over 25%
ROTTEN AFTER 40 years when GM LEFT: 8%
Obvious that the big 3 are not competitive - at least in Europe.
Same for Ford which has lost 50% of its marketshare in last 20 years or 75% since mid 80s in germany.
Good luck, tarifs will make their situation worser than today cause the prices can not drop due to tarifs unless the chinese and others will establish a prroduction in Canada or even USA . BYD for example could - easily with VW together.

Go back to pre-pandemic prices, then adjust for actual inflation. That is what the price should start around.
Then deduct money if you get a turbo over a non-turbo.
And yes a screen might be cheaper up front, but lifelong it will cost the consumer more. These LED touchscreens are disposable and only last so long.

It all boils down to price price price. Americans are broke. And who in their right mind would by an electric pickup truck? Pickups are known to be work vehicles. Anyone whos used electric snowblowers and lawnmowers will tell you they'd prefer gas powered. Not just because of longer run time, but electric cannot keep up with the steady power of gas motors.

I have a chevy s10 and yeah it has issues and is it worth fixing? No, cost way too much to make new again. The new Silverado is like ehh I mean I don't dislike the new Silverado and I don't like it either. I mean everyone has a Silverado, Silverado Silverado Silverado.
