Welcome to Still Life ❤️🙏🏻 wonderful acoustic transitions throughout.. this one has such wonderful melody and beautiful but rare clean vocals. Moonlapse is my favorite from this wonderful concept album plus two wonderful “ballads” in benighted and melinda ❤️ like no band ever 💀

How wonderful of you to give us so many reactions so quickly.
    Thank you!
99.9% of the time I have never paid attention to lyrics with any bands.

The album is conceptual. It’s about a guy who was banished from a village and left behind his love, Melinda. He comes back many years later and try to get her to leave too, and a lot of things happened.
I find this video (link bellow) very helpful. In my opinion she did a real good job explaining and added some of her own ideas of what the album is about.

Going to put this out here. Many prog fans wish for a collaboration between Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt , and.... Mariusz Duda. Who you may ask?
Mariusz Duda is the principal songwriter/ bassist/singer of Riverside. He has collaborated with SW , as they are friends.
" The Old Peace" can be found on UA-cam, but isn't available elsewhere , as it was a fundraiser ( backstory in the description). NOT TO BE MISSED. SW sings and did production, Mariusz set the poem " The Old Peace" to music. Glorious
3 Riverside songs get the most reactions....
1)Escalator Shrine ( bonus if you can figure the time signatures throughout... I can't believe Mariusz can sing and play those meters simultaneously)
    2) Second Life Syndrome
    3) Left Out
Any Riverside song is worthy..... A band for musicians ( I found them from a Mike Portnoy recommendation)
How to describe Riverside? Just today I read a comment that was perfect.... Dream Theater with half the notes, no double bass( or very little), and a much more soulful singer..... I would add that they have a very distinct sound , drawing from everything from Deep Purple , Rainbow ,Pink Floyd , Porcupine Tree, Vangelis , Tangerine Dream ,Rush , Marillion , Dead Can Dance..... You get the picture. Many genres involved, but defying genre classification one song or album to the next.
The Daily Doug just covered them, and they are just finishing a new studio album , so the timing is good to spotlight them.
Also of note, Mariusz also has a solo side project ( a few) called Lunatic Soul. No electric guitars , all bass , piccolo bass and acoustic guitar. He plays all the other instruments except the drum kit.
    1)Gutter
    2)Summerland
    3)Suspended In Whiteness
    4) The Fountain ( this one is achingly beautiful)
He has made many guest vocals appearances as well...

I would actually recommend NOT checking out the lyrics while listening. Just use your imagination and let the music take you to a different place.

I agree, it's better to concentrate on the music first.
Also, you can then read the lyrics and do an album review with the story in mind.
However, do what brings you the most joy. I like your reactions either way.
