I have the same stove (& Inferno wood burning insert for winter). I've had it for 10 years and love it.Y ou have the right idea with your pot shape. It's height-to-width ratio is the most efficient. I have the 3 cup mating anodized aluminum pot B/C aluminum transmits heat just a bit better than ti. In my pot I keep a small cut-down Zip Loc plastic bowl and plastic measuring/drinking cup. Normally I burn ESBIT fuel tabs in a Brian Green (BGET) tablet holder for a much longer burn time B/C it retains the "juice" form the tablets that is given off when they burn. I also have the KOJIN alcohol stove as I don't like there 12/10 stove. You can make a ring for the KOJIN to slow down burn time like the Starlyte II stove.
I agree, the weight of the bags do add up, but since I am carrying the food that comes in them I find it more beneficial for me to eat out of them. If I was carrying bulk of each item in each bag, or all mixed in one, that would make more sense for me. I have used the Gram Cracker with the 1.3L setup the most, then wood, then alcohol. With Esbit, a single 14 g tablet will boil 3 cups of water. I almost got one to boil 4 cups of water in one of my previous videos.
Yea Stick, the titanium foil is very clever. That's the kind of thing that impresses me in the UL world. Anyone with money can go out and buy the latest UL gear, but when you can shave off a whole ounce with innovative thinking....now that embodies the true spirit of UL!
Sounds I might need the 1.3 L Evernew pot. In the past, I've done freezer bag cooking, but honestly there's something about eating out of a pot. (Plus the heavy duty "freezer bags" I used to use were rather heavy, and can add up in weight). When you are using the 1.3 L Evernew pot with the Sidewinder stand/windscreen, what kind of stove do you take? Esbit or alcohol? I was thinking the gram cracker stove? BTW, how much Esbit do you need to boil 2 or 3 cups of water with this setup?
I must of missed that thread... I have noticed lately that there have been a few threads on the cone systems popping up, but admit that I have not been reading through all the threads much lately... I'll get on a kick where I will read through them pretty good for a while, then I'll slack off for a while and just kind of browse through... Anyway, it sounds cool that our systems are pretty similar, although, I didn't DIY my cone... :)
thank you for explaining the details...i have a starlyte, old style, and was wondering why the newer one has the inner ring/if the old one would work with the caldera. thank you!
I really dig this setup. Do you prefer Esbit or alcohol with this setup, and why? Which is more efficient and easier to use? Looking for a setup that I can use to rehydrate food in my cookpot, but need enough for two (my wife and I). Also trying to decide between the 0.9 L and 1.3 L Evernew pot.
Great cook kit Chad! You had me worried A tad when you started talking Canadian... A mili what? But then when you obviously started saying obviously so much I obviously thought everything must be ok...:) I just need to learn Canadian...LOL! Thanks for the vid Chad I have been meaning to get one those Cones for awhile now! take care! Tom
Haha, No i only say that cus i posted my diy cone and lid on bpl about a year ago and just recently posted it again couple weeks ago answering someone's question about a myog cone. Thought you might have seen it..
What is the boil time difference, if any, when you use the original lid vs that DIY lid? If the original lid has a better seal on the pot, maybe you could shave some time off of your boil time? I guess I've never really understood the advantage of saving .8oz...I mean if the original lid was 8oz...that I could understand.
Chad Poindexter Fair enough...I've ditched gear here and there for the same reason...was just wondering if the lid was any more efficient for the weight. If it works...it works is what I say. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
@@TanukiParis I think you’re talking about the regular caldera cone vs the sidewinder/Ti-Tri set ups? If so it’s important to first note that all of these Caldera Cones are made to match exact cook pots. With this in mind, if you are comparing the regular caldera cone to one of the Sidewinders/Ti-Tri set ups with the same cook pot, there should not be any difference in efficiency whatsoever. This is also assuming you are comparing esbit to esbit or alcohol to alcohol, as well as the same environmental setting. It’s also worth noting that the regular caldera cone is not made to be used with wood fires, whereas the Sidewinders can (hence Ti-Tri: these are made from Titanium which can withstand the heat from a wood fire, and Tri, meaning Esbit, alcohol and wood fire). So the biggest question to ask between the regular caldera cone and the Ti-Tris is, do you want to use wood fired? If no, get the regular Caldera cone, if yes get the Ti-Tri. Now, if you are asking about the caldera cones as compared to any other cook set up, that’s a bigger, more involved response. Hope this helps though.

Thanks... and you're definitely not the first one to tell me that my vids are a little long... :)
Good video. May now be tempted to try one of these cones.
I'm liking that wind screen.....

Hi. When you have the cone rolled up, what is the length and diameter? I have a different pot and wondering if it will fit. Good cooking.
love the coffe mug
Thanks Tony!

Great set up Chad! Love a gear video :-)
well done
Hmmm that lid looks familiar? where ever did you get the idea for that?
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

Well, at least they are enjoyable and informative.
Hi, what is the difference with the caldera cone ?
The difference in what exactly?
@@SticksBlog Efficiency but maybe you didn't try the caldera cone.

Are you still using this stove?
On occasion. I have several stoves to choose from, so it depends on the hike and my goals.
Great vid. A little long for what it is. 18 mins to boil water! ;-)
hot water of the animals...
A thermos bottle is SOOOO much easier
+Complaint Department Easier than what?
Way, way too much waffle. Got bored!!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching. 👍
