In this I share with you all the jobs I’ve done since age 12 - these include gardening, cleaner, care home kitchen staff, builder, waitress and more. I actually clean private homes for a living. I have the same customers evvery week and I am home by 3 or 4. I have every weekend off, holidays and I get 5 weeks paid vacation. I was a florist before that and a billing/accounting/data entry/archive person for like 20 years before that and I have NEVER been happier than I am doing the cleaning thing. I have so much more time with my family and that is THE most important thing to me. I am an American who married a Swede and live in Sweden now. I've been here almost ten years and it is perfect. I was never able to buy or do the things I've been able to do until I started that job. It is so rewarding and I LOVE time challenges. Having a set amount of time and having to get something done in said amount of time. I have learned so many tricks and stuff with cleaning that my own home sparkles now. LOL! I wouldn't change a thing with my job. I can't believe it took me this long to find out that I love to clean! hahahaa!
Wow. That's impossible in the U.S. The quality of life for people in the service industry in the U.S. is usually terrible, unless they marry someone more well-off.
@@emmacat3202 I know, I remember that. It's sad that is how it is and that also, new mothers only receive 6 weeks maternity leave there. Here in Sweden they get a year and then the father can take a year to bond with the baby. It's so wonderful. I wish the U.S. would catch up with the rest of the world. People ask me all the time if I miss America and I have to say living in Sweden and having modern technology keeps me from that. Don't miss it much at all anymore.

I used to work in an aged care facility as well and the residents are just so amazing I’d urge everyone once this time has passed and we get back to ‘normal’ life to volunteer at a care home. Just chatting brings residents so much joy and their wisdom is priceless 💕
Sophie I love your career videos to be honest, I watched those videos first when I stumbled across your channel. It’s so inspiring seeing who far you’ve come. A lot of people doing luxury videos put on airs but you are down to earth and open about how you got to the point of living this lifestyle. You worked hard and nobody gave it to you. A lot of us watching respect that!
Also I feel because you worked your way up you are more honest about luxury brands that have lost their quality overtime. A lot of people in this space are just happy to say they have a designer bag and just ignore how some of these brands have poor quality for the price point.

Can’t believe these types of videos get the least views I absolutely love them along with the finance ones. They give such a good perspective on the working world. As a student about to embark on a placement year I find these videos so helpful and inspiring. You have such an admirable work ethic. Your parents have brought you up well to set yourself goals and to strive for them. I watch some you tubers who don’t seem to have much of a concept of the value of the things they show (bags, shoes etc) but you give off a whole different side to yourself and as a viewer I genuinely believe you have worked very hard to get where you are now. Thank you for this video, Sophie. This has honestly helped me out so much! I graduated in July last year and have been struggling to find a graduate job due to nobody hiring over Christmas and now the coronavirus. I've been working in a restaurant full time and I absolutely hate it but like you've said I've learnt some of the best life lessons and I still believe that everything happens for a reason. I found your channel a couple of months ago now and you're one of the most underrated UA-camrs. You definitely keep me motivated and inspire me to keep working hard towards my goals x

Sophie how I wish you were my mentor when I went through my career story ! I love your journey and could have learned so much from you ! My biggest regret in life I have where my career was concerned was I never felt like I was good enough at anything I did ... be it a babysitter or a retail sales person or a compliance specialist for a major UK based bank. I let personal struggles affect my career and I eventually left the industry and now I am at an age where it’s very hard for a woman my age to get back a career let alone any kind job ... the mistakes I made ... can’t take them back ... but your story is incredible . ❤️ You truly inspire me ... just wish I were 20 years younger and had a second chance ... sort of an unfortunate twist of fate with this COVID pandemic ... my husband was in the process of getting transferred to London ... and I was getting all prepared to rejoin his bank which is headquartered in London ... but now we are stuck in a long period of uncertainty. If I do end up relocating to London ... I am most definitely going to use your inspiration to try something in terms of a new career. Your work ethic and determination is commendable ... look at your success ... not talking just financially ... but I can feel your confidence and drive and that feeling of achieving your goals. What a great video. My dad owned a commercial cleaning business and all 3 of us kids grew up helping him clean office buildings or scrub campground toilets in the summer. Then I worked sticking shelves at a grocery store, then at a pizza joint. I also worked at a high performance car parts store, at a bank as a merchant teller, as a sales rep at a car dealership, a cocktail waitress, bartender, waiter, as a coordinator at a hair salon and then a personal carer for an at home care company and I’m currently an AIN at a nursing home. You’re so right that the interaction with the people in these homes is so rewarding. I want to do my RN studies after my husband finishes his bachelor’s degree!

I love this video!! When I was in college, part of the prerequisites for my major was working in a nursing home... it was one of my favorite jobs I’ve ever done. When I hear people say “I could never do that job” or “I would never put someone I love in a home” I just shake my heard because I loved every minute of it. The residents are genuinely grateful, and the majority of them truly needed professional care. Thanks for highlighting an overlooked industry!!

So Glad I watched this! I feel like crying after the video ended because it gave me hope that I can have a place in the industry that I wanted to go to... I had a horrible job interview experience (mainly on my part) and I kept telling myself how much of a failure I was and I won’t end up anywhere like this. Also it’s hard not to compare myself to my friends that seem successful and disappoint myself even more. Thank you Sophie! OMG Sophie, I LOVE how you share this side of yourself. It's truly empowering to be able to relate to someone in your current position through similar life experiences. What you've described in this video demonstrates the worth of varied work experiences from a young age in building an understanding of life! Some people are lucky(?) to be given everything on a plate in their early lives but that's just not the reality of the world, for the majority of us at least (and I personally believe that can be totally debilitating for personal development)! I recently graduated Uni and I have not managed to get a job so I am stuck in my retail job. Your videos truly inspire me and I thank you for sharing them. A lot of people that I look up to make it seem that it's so easy and there must be something wrong with me for not getting the job. The fact that you share with us your journey is helpful and inspiring.
Sophie this kind of videos are amazing! you should do them more often. Luxury doesn't come for free to a lot of us, so this talks are always a great reminder that nothing pays off better than hard work. I consider myself to be a very hard working woman because of the life i want to achieve and it always helps to hear ir from other woman. There's tons of girls that have it easy but there are a ton out there just like us that want to achieve things by ourselves!! THANK YOU!

He was a fisherman/builder and we had a self sufficient farm.
I grew up waking up at 4:30 to feed and water the animals, collect eggs, then school, build site or out onto the water!!

Sophie, I really appreciate your sharing. Some stories I have heard many times again and again perhaps, but that doesn't matter, when i look back to my life, it gives me new inspiration also. Maybe I'm in the moment like stuck somewhere or a comfort zone perhaps. In a situation not too bad but also not satisfying. And now I don't want to be worried too much of it !!

I completely agree with you. Some of my earliest jobs taught me the most. In college I worked as a forklift driver and a dishwasher. It gave me a strong work ethic and taught me the value of a dollar. It also made me focus on my education because it taught me to set goals.

I personally LOVE your money/job related videos and this one instantly became one of my favorites. The reason is that I can relate to what you were saying SO much! I used to have all kind of jobs through highschool and college, some easier than others, some better paid than others, but they all taught me so much! I've learned the value of time and money, I learned about responsibility, I learned to communicate... Although at the time I very often felt like I was missing out on a lot of things (my friends could go out much more, they didn't have to work and just got the money from their parents), today I am very grateful for each and every job that I had! I ended doing something that I never thought I would and I really love my job and I always feel like I have an advantage because of my previous experience.
My parents didn't necessarily sit me down and teach me anything about work or finances, but my mom was always mindful to teach me about money and hard work from an early age. The rest of it came through observing my parents' hard work and learning from their own actions. We also came from humble beginnings and both my parents had careers in making things (mom is a seamstress and dad is a construction worker) so naturally my sister and I became very crafty people ourselves. My parents never made me do chores (other than ad hoc asking me to help out around the house, but it wasn't as if I was assigned chores to do on a regular basis) nor did they ever give me an allowance (if I wanted money, I had to ask and say what is was for... eventually my mom would leave me a few bills in an envelope for petty cash I could take out without permission just so I wouldn't have to bother her for cookie money or something small). But this also gave me a blank slate to decide for myself what's important. I could've just sat home all day and watch TV (which I definitely did a lot of) but it also forced me to be creative if I wanted money.
In high school I did occasional babysitting. I loved babies and the pay and work was loads better than any job at the mall. Plus it came with food! I also collected all the free/giveaway books at my school's library and teen health clinic, plus whatever my teachers didn't want anymore, and would sell the books on Amazon and Half.com (eBay). In college I continued babysitting, as well as taking on a managerial job at my housing facility. I also worked as a home health aid to a man in a wheelchair. I also used my hand sewing skills to repair quilts for a quilt collector (who sadly passed away a few years ago). During college the Victoria Secret's Pink collection came out and it was a massive thing but not all stores had a Pink section or Pink store, so I would buy up items on clearance and sell them on eBay for a small profit. These were all useful skills when I graduated undergrad in 2009 after the recession and couldn't find a professional job. I continued babysitting and I would rummage through thrift stores and discount stores for designer clothes to sell on eBay. Even after many years in various professional jobs... when I lost my job last year, I returned to nannying and babysitting as well as selling clothes for wealthy clients on eBay. As Sophie says, USEFUL skills. You will always have these life lessons and practical skills with you. You always have a fall back plan. You can go through life knowing you'll always be employable. I never have to worry about money in the sense that I know I'll always be able to earn some some how, some way.

Even though I am much older than you, I do identify with many of your experiences. So many of us get cough up on "being" the job title that we don't realize that a job is what we do not who we are! I knew of a woman who WAS a writer and she WORKED as a truck driver! I have worked in everything, but I am an ARTIST.

Oh my gosh ... wow this is exactly the video I needed. I work in a car dealership in a front desk and customer service role (currently doing two jobs because of lay offs) and I’m going to get my masters in the fall for marketing. I’m so stressed about how I’m going to make that jump and if I’ll get a job but knowing you did literally the same thing and just stayed focused. That’s so reassuring to hear! Somehow this one slipped past me. Really interesting to learn about your work history and how you got where you are! I hope it helps some people understand that you're not living the way you are by accident and to be less inclined to leave unnecessary, rude comments about your lifestyle. I've seen some. It's odd.

Gave me some confidence that things will be alright. 💖
Working as a hotel cleaner years ago was one of my best experiences too. It was the hardest work, but the team was amazing (most of us are still in contact) and I learned so much about people and life in general. Even though it has nothing in common with my current job, I know for certain I wouldn't be the person I am now without that experience.
