academia is a useless business in 2024. It shouldn't exist anymore, its legalized slavery with virtually zero utility for humanity. Innovation comes from businesses anyways simply because the goal for them isn't to write useless papers, but to actually make something useful out of novel findings. I regret wasting 4 years of my life doing a phd, if I had spent that time working in a junior position in any business that experience would have been more valuable than the phd itself. I am literally competing with bachelors and masters with teh same experience I have... and the phd literally does not count shit.
Remember this: Healthcare is an intricate and demanding field that requires years of experience to master. Consider this: 90% of individuals enter nursing school, but only 10% stay for a long and fulfilling career. If you're passionate about saving lives and contributing to people's well-being, then the healthcare industry is where you belong. However, if your primary motivation is financial gain, you'll likely find yourself seeking an exit. It's important to recognize that while AI is advancing rapidly, human lives are at stake, making critical thinking an absolute necessity in this industry.
Thank you for your information. I have a background in human clinical trials and statical analysis. I studied computer science as a minor to my integrative science (bs). I enjoyed the programming the aspect of the undergradate degree. I initially didn't care for statistics in my graduate degree, but loved it once I started applying it to clinical trials. I will have to look to find several careers that fits my love of science, statistics, and computer science.
Thanks a ton Tina for this awesome video! I'm now my master's in Bioinformatics as I was a biochemist originally and then I started watching your channel in my undergrad and got a passion for coding and data science so I tried to transition into a more computational subject. So a big thank you again as I was able to find something that I love doing. It's super cool to see how much AI, especially in drug design, is changing things every single day to be honest and is hard to keep up in just one field with everything. Every day there's something new in AI, even when GPT-4 came out, as a programming newbie, it can be a bit overwhelming and I started questioning if I should keep studying coding until I realised all skills are usefull and coding will still be a valued skill and transferable even if one day our robotic overlords will code for us :D ! But I know my field has a lot of potential however i want to escape the standard working style in research in both academia and industry so I am always on the lookout for new job opportunities that might fit my skills. Hey Tina, Watched this video today. It's pretty clear from the level of education that jobs like the ones presented will work for someone smart like you. My take is however that there are not many of these jobs available, not as many jobs as will be replaced with AI. It's not possible for 80% of the graphical designers to find jobs making presentations, making plans and selling "green" solutions, eventho I expect with traning many of them could be good at it.
