You sound killer as always. I’ve only owned one Marshall, an Origin 20 that I used for the Beano video…now you’ve got me thinking that I’m due for one. Great video Ben.
Oh no, what have I done?! I'm sorry for fueling the habit! Think of it like this...it's the most Plexi for the least money...Thanks man, much appreciated!
Thanks, Graeme. They were ok amps weren't they?! They were absolutely everywhere for a while. That drive channel was full nu metal, ha! Remember the scoop button?! *sings* 'you don't know why, you just wanna justify, ripping someone's f*$%ing head off...' Haha!
Thank you Ben, great video, great playing! I played so many amps over the last few years, but this one is an absolute keeper. I purchased it a couple of months ago and its killer. Never had a better souding amp. And clean Marshall tones are superb too 🙂
Thank you! I'm with you, having tried it live a fair bit now, I'd say it's the most consistent and best drive sound I've had when paired with my Small Fry Burn Unit. Really nice combination for me. The cleans are also great at lower volumes, but some of the drummers I play with are loud enough that they'll never get to hear them! ha!
Ben!! Your slide playing is just fabulous. I really look forward to future videos on this amp. I’m using a Peavey 5150 combo and it’s loud. That amp there is just a bit much for me at 1800$. I was thinking about the Boss DD3T, I almost went down the HX stomp route but I just have too much stuff. My wife says if I sell my gear off I can buy newer stuff, I just can’t seem to do it. 🤓
Far too kind as always, but thank you. Those 5150's are damn loud. Most people say their amps are loud, when in reality they're only loud for home use. Yours on the other hand...! That's a surprising price on the Marshall, but then it's a UK company. They're currently 720 quid here, less if you're lucky. A few friends of mine are using the HX Stomps and they're great, but I'm going to side with your wife here! Ha! If you're looking to replace lots of things with a multi-effect unit, then it's probably a great move. On the other hand if it's in addition to, then it's just more stuff! I mention in the video about the DD3, but some of these videos are a few months old by the time people see them. (April for this one if you're wondering) I've been using that Fly Rig for delay and verb with this amp. I'm finding the Fly Rig gives me what the DD3 gives me, plus it has a few extra things that are nice, like the tuner, the leslie etc. I can use the Sans amp if I'm using one of the DV Mark amps and it gets pretty close to the Marshall to be honest. It means I don't have to keep changing the pedal board for different gigs, I can just use what I need from it. Still using the Small Fry Burn Unit for drive though, I've just not warmed to the OMG section of that pedal, it's too fizzy for my taste. It's not easy to let go of gear.
@@ProfessorGabrielMiranda Yes absolutely! I'm pretty sure some people will think it's a bit dark just using the normal, but ditching the bass a bit leaves you with a beautifully smooth lead tone, when combined with a nice drive pedal. No need for me to stack drives either, which is nice.
Amp sounds insane! You do tend to make everything sound great though! My favourite Marshall style thing I’ve ever played is my Traynor YBA-1. Basically a Canadian small box plexi. Let me know if you wanna borrow to try/feature it!
Also, absolutely no hate on the DS-2 Turbo Distortion. That pedal on the turbo setting through a Marshall with a strat is THE John Frusciante noise. It’s just annoying that they changed the original DS-1 sound in it so it sounded worse that a normal DS-1…
Thanks mate, far too kind. It's a lovely amp, I'm learning it's eccentricities every time I take it out. I've never come across Traynor, that sounds interesting, I'll have to read 'aboot' it. I'll buzz you a message, sounds fun.
@@StratShredder69 Absolutely! To be honest I'd get far more from it now than I did then, which should tell us all something! I just meant that at the time I was going full blues pure tone with a 59' reissue and a tele and then paired it with a bright orange box of destruction! Ha!
Hi Ben, thanks for sharing your experience. I am looking for exactly this sound. But I would also like to have a clean sound. Is that possible with the amp?
Hi, no worries. Yes it's possible and the cleans can sound great, BUT up to a certain volume. For recording it's ace, but live you're really only gunna get semi-clean sounds unless your drummer uses brushes on everything! I run the normal channel about 1-2 o clock over a band and at that setting with humbuckers it's driving enough for country rock rhythm tones. On the bright channel, you'd be driving even more by that point, as it seems to have more gain for some reason. It cleans up really well with the volume knob though, which is how you're most likely to use it I would think. If you're after a true clean channel and also for some drive, I'd be looking at a twin channel amp with a footswitch. By the way, worth noting that the bright cap on the bright channel is insanely bright, so if you're running it low enough for totally clean it'll likely rip your face off with treble unless you go with a VERY extreme eq. The bright channel will become less bright but more distorted as you turn it up. The normal channel stays smoother but will get slightly brighter past about 2.00. It's plenty quirky! Hope some of that helps, Ben.
Hi Ben, so you are running the DI out (which according to the manual already has a cab sim applied to) into your audio interface/ir loader for an additional sim? I‘m very curious because the results are stunning - as is your playing😊! Merry Christmas 🎄
Very kind, thank you! Yes, I know it's not quite its intended purpose but I thought I'd try it and it worked really well. It's incredibly similar sounding to the cab in the room actually. I'm going to chalk this one up to more luck than judgment, but I'll stick with it, ha! Merry Christmas to you too. Ben
Thanks man, it's lovely. It's become my number one guitar for sure. I still have my SG, but this is the one I generally reach for. I also have my 339! 3 Gibsons at my pay grade, I must be nuts. That's pretty much the whole collection though, 3 guitars that sound virtually the same to most people, haha!
Thanks, mate! I'm happy with the purchase even though I can in no way justify it! I sold other stuff to acquire it, but honestly 90% of my gigs are done with a modelling unit straight in to the PA, so this was definitely something I wanted rather than needed.

Great playing & video Ben. I had a valvestate too and quite liked it. Crazy loud though.

your tone is amazing! This tip with the high treble channel is gold.
Thank you, too kind! I used this amp again tonight on a rare blues gig, it's a really consistent sound and always feels nice to play on too.
