This Marshall is the amp anyone should own! I run 2 amps, this and an a PRS MT15! I put an angry Charlie and EP boost in the front of the amps! Slight break up on the Marshall! Been told it’s a great tone!
Your sound Production is superb here. I like it. I am using this SV20 with Archer Gold version also sometimes I use Mesa Cleo OD. I am trying to use Ibanez TS9. TS( responses more a bit spongy if that is the word. Thank you for sharing ..very useful knowledge from you.
The RK5 did come up well in this video, I liked that one too. The EP just has a knack of making everything sound good. I've not tried the SL or the Super Sweet, but I have owned an AC Booster in the past and thought that was great. Xotic make some killer stuff.
It handles pedals really well doesn't it? This is definitely not the amp for a clean sound though. It doesn't really have one to speak of. The bright channel has a bright cap that is really piercing in the lower sweep of the dial, so if the loudness is set low enough that the amp is clean, it's incredibly brittle. A friend of mine has just bought the JTM 45 version of this series of amp and I've done a comparison video that will be out in a couple of months. It's very interesting the difference between the two. The JTM style stays clean much further around the dial and is actually quite a nice clean tone. Mine is rock or nothing, but I still have the DV for clean stuff and that sounds great.
@@BenFletcherGuitar if you're willing to do a tiny bit of modding, adding a dial to choose between input cap values opens up this amp so massively. My recommendations are a 100pf for the 45 type cleans, a 500pf for steely bright sound, and a 1800pf with a 100k or 200k resistor in series for that bright higher gain sound without making it unusable at lower gain. I never use the stock 4700pf cap anymore :')
@@void_snw That sounds terrifying, but really useful! I like the stock one for recording bright jangly rhythm tones. Way too bright for me live, but on a recording they sit really nice in a mix. The idea of a switchable cap could be great. Part of the reason I bought the amp was because I was having reliability issues with my main gigging amp and so wanted something with a warranty for a few years. Maybe once that has run out, I'll look in to this option, because it would be very handy.
Thanks for this great video.. Im caught between buying either an Origin Head or this SV20 ,running it clean in my bedroom with some Killer Marshall Plexi type pedals for dirt.. ( Friedman Smallbox pedal, Cmatmods Brownie) .. Don't know which option to take?..Any opinion?
Thank you! I would say that for bedroom use this amp would probably be way too loud unless you run it through an attenuator. (unless it's a really massive bedroom!) That being said, the normal channel takes pedals well and would sound great with most dirt pedals. The bright channel of this amp needs to be turned up a long way to clear that bright cap. It's unusable to my ears unless it's at least half way up (which is sodding loud for home use!). You could maybe clip the bright cap, though you'd no longer have a warranty. I don't have experience with the origin series amps unfortunately so can't comment on those too much. I've heard good things, but the demos seem quite fizzy so I'm not sure. Also, there is no clean with this amp. I've recently put out a video comparing this amp to the JTM45 version. It might be worth having a look at that, as you'll get a feel for what this amp does at different volume levels. Just as a quick note, I run in to an attenuator and then an impulse response through my mixing speakers. Doing that I can play at barely speaking volume, even with the amp at maximum. Cheers, Ben.
@BenFletcherGuitar Hi Ben..Thanks for that detailed response. That really helps me....If it's going to be hard to 'clear the bright cap' on channel 1 which I want, ( the "Jimmy Page "Channel) I'd have to look at a Master Vol mod and then that will compromise the clean....I think maybe a higher powered Marshall with a master may be the way for me ( 1987 50 watt with master mod or Origin)
That thing is a great sounding unit, but I haven't tried it as a drive pedal yet. I will do, although I've already made my video with it, so it won't be included in that. It wasn't here when I made this video though, I sold that Archer in the 1st example in July of last year!
I use a Marshall 2x12, semi-open, with two Greenback speakers. This video is recorded through a Greenback IR though, as the volume is an issue where I live. Ben

ur production value is top notched, bud. Uh, and the slide tone is amazing
Too kind, thank you! These things do always seem to take a long time to put together, so I really appreciate that. Ben
all the pedals sounded great. i was blown away by your tasteful playing!
Too kind, thank you! The amp handles drive pedals really well.

Marshall with a Marshall - I take it, please! Great tones!
Fucking hell great production and fucking awesome playing and demos ❤
Too kind, but much appreciated, thank you.
I think the EP Booster and the RK5 were my favourite tones. I really dig Xotic pedals and use the Super Sweet and SL drive.

Enjoyed this video. Thanks.
What reverb are you using?
Thank you! Just one of the stock room verbs in Cubase Artist 6.
There was not a bad sound amongst them imo, but I would use the amp nice and clean with a touch of plate reverb 😁

Curious how the Pulse would compare alongside them?
