Jacob, if you hadn't been playing just as well before Eddie's passing, I would honestly swear you are channeling him. You're the ONLY guy who covers him that plays with as much swing and passion as he did...
Problem is...Far too late on the scene, hasn't got his own style and millions miles away from the mighty EVH genius. I'm 53 and still waiting for thé one who's going to break all the rules like Eddie did. Hi from France but who gives a damn!
I've been playing my 50 and 100 watt amps live at full volume with no attenuation and a 4x12 cab for years, in the clubs, theaters, outdoor venues, you name it... And will keep doing so! But lately, I've been doing gigs with Rick Hughes, and I needed a lower volume amp for his particular show, so I've been using the studio series in 5 watts mode and let me tell you... THEY HOLD UP! In every aspect, even in 5 watts (which is still pretty loud). Tone, dynamics, punch, cleans up, etc... In 20 watts mode, the only differences are that it won't feedback as much when you want it to and won't have as much headroom, because they're a bit quieter, but barely. I read all kinds of bullshit about these amps, don't believe what everybody says, trust your ears and feeling. People will tell you that you need at least a 50 or 100 watts to get a good live feel and sound, then they'll run the master on 2, boost it with a pedal and have it come out of the monitors... That's terrible, thin, no dynamics, compressed, talk about no headroom... Tube amps need to be cranked loud, to get the warmth, fat, rich & creamy, almost clean-like distortion, with beautiful harmonics. It's also worth noting that the original JTM45 was actually 30 watts. I think Marshall is at the top of their game, making these but also all of their original amps, there are great options for everyone.
Jacob I'd love to know what pedals and add-ons match a Marshall well for 80s tones. I recently bought myself a SC20H because of this video and it has a 1x12 V30. It is a phenomenal amp on its own but would like to build a pedalboard to support it. What would you recommend?
Amazing playthrough as always Jacob! PLEASE TELL US what bridge pickup is inside this kramer guitar here and in your other videos ? * * I would be shocked if it's the kramer stock pickup. . What is the secret pickup here ?? Does anyone know ? Cheers from niagara falls canada and thank you for the music - please come back to ontario soon 🤘🙏@JacobDeraps
Of all the UA-cam guitarists I have watched since 2007 I have to say I think you are the most impressive player not only because of your ability to very accurately re-create Eddie Van Halen's tone and style, which in itself is unbelievably brilliant, but your own original style is awesome - I can see your personality coming through in your playing. Hats off to you, congratulations on being a brilliant and gifted guitar player - to get that good takes dedication and hard work. After 40 years, I am still struggling trying to figure out bark at the moon/ozzy - and having just watched this video of you playing I've now kicked all of my guitars off their stands and they are in a pile in the corner of the room. I blame them for me not being able to do what you can do on my guitar 🙂 Seriously, you are a very impressive guitar player.

my god, you’ve only gotten better and better over time. i’ve been watching since day one and you’re scary good. I’m so happy these amps sound so good too. i need to get them.
I've been watching you for years and years now - since in your parent's basement wearing bandanas like a badass. You're still the only one online showing what it REALLY takes to play & sound like Eddie. SAVAGE pick attack and hand strength. Not to mention sensational rhythm and masterful skill. Love, love, love your tone!! BTW I own the SV20H and adore that amp. I also use an attenuator (Ironman II) and dime everything on the 20W setting. One of the best amp distortions that exists.

Get on the Pete Thorn Show! I don't know if it is You Tube but it is amazing but thin. Pete and yourself would have a great conversation and the outcome would be notable!
You make them all sound great (but different). I sold my SV20: just too bright for my taste. I'm now getting to know my new ST20: a very different beast.
@ ah, there's a story. I found both its normal and bright channel to be pretty similar and both quite 'dark' and low gain. In fact they sounded almost identical to the low-sensitivity normal sv20 channel. So I returned it. And.... I will buy another SV20 but learn to mix in more normal channel (or, if I want a ST20 JTM45 style, just use its normal channel!).
@@demianin it covers all the bases! A couple of things I didn't mention was that I couldn't afford another SV20 so bought a used DSL20. Not a good move: it does two things: silent or deafening distortion, nothing in between. So I'm selling that. I always claimed to love "the Marshall sound" but now I realise that their sound can cover a vast range of tones, and it isn't easy to get one that suits you perfectly. My perfect amp, by the way, is the 1987x reissue. I had one for years and sold it because it was big, heavy and loud. Perhaps one day I'll get another.
really great playing and sound.... the SC20H and SV20H are really good voiced after the 100 Waters 2203 and and 1959 .... the 50 Watt Marshalls , so 2204 and 1987 are different animals ...
Every time I see you play with the guitar straight to the amp without pedals or anything else I remain speechless. About the Marshall sv20h do you use the stock tubes ? Are they different from your Germino ? Did you use the variac ? And what IR did you use ? Hope to hear the new album soon
How much do you think the Ox Box molds the tone? Could you share your knob settings on the amp? I have a SV20H dimed - don’t jump the channels - running through a torpedo captor and it doesn’t sound this good without heavily modifying the eq + high/low gain. Even then it still feels like something is missing Only effects are a Boss eq, Slap back delay, and studio reverb
Good to hear you like these things. I've been side-eying these baby marshall's for a minute, specifically the little 800. Have you spent any time with the Origin 50? Curious how that fits into the sonic spectrum of these studio amps. Also, what cab/mics are you using in the OX box? (Assuming that's what we're hearing here)
Nailin' that VH sound! I've got the Jubilee studio combo and like it better than a 100 watt jube I used to have. The 100 watt was so loud. I use the Studio Jube in clubs and it's perfect.

One thing I have heard a lot is that the 20w amps aren't as 'thick' sounding as their 50/100W counterparts (due to transformer size / headroom power), are the Studio series a lot thinner sounding? And can you compensate for that easily?
Can you explain your setup? Pickup? And I'm assuming you're going into the GB cab sim in the Ox? I had an SV20 and an Ox box and could never get these type of tones, but I think my pickups were too hot. Great job, sounds stellar here.
