  • Flocking your dashboard is an AWESOME modification to your car’s interior. Wouldn’t recommend DIY, though, for reasons you’ll soon see...

    Also something to note around my videos working on my car: I’m just a keen petrolhead, NOT a trained mechanic. I like to make interesting car mods and show you how I've gone about it, but I can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because it may look easy on UA-cam. Talk to a qualified mechanic if you are in any doubt.

    It could possibly be the application tool you used. I noticed on websites like flockit, that they have a applicator you pump to essentially "throw" the media on the dash. My guess is the force of pumping the fibers into the dash is what sinks it into the glue. Where you sifted it and left gravity doing the work, not forcing it into the glue itself

    Well done for being so honest about it, never easy to admit defeat but at least it's a lesson shared. I know what it's like attempting different things and it doesn't always go the way you planned.

    Although it went badly you can always easily and cheaply get a new dashboard from scrapyard. Also I absolutely love how seicento screams "RACE CAR" without it's dashboard

    You need to use a professional level electrostatic flocking machine. Flocking by just dusting the fibres never works out. The way i do it, spray a electrically conductive epoxy based fireproof adhesive over the part, hook a ground cable up and then fire flock fibres at the part by positively charging the fibre cup. This results in the fibres being attracted to the part and landing in the adhesive on end (so the fibres all stand up) as if you rub a balloon on your clothes and hold it to your hair. I can do this for you if you would like to pm me. I can send you a colour chart for you to pick your colour/s.

    Maybe try wrapping it in fake velvet or alcantra?

    Used the same kit as u, had the same problem as u aswell, pain in the ass, was doing it on a headliner... Almost nothing attached itself to the glue😅

    • @joeshaft

      mine was the exact same and I used the WWS expensive pro applicator so I think its the ADHESIVE that flock king sell, its crap! it's the the common theme here. I should have used spray glue or something like contact adhesive. The flock king black adhesive it rubbish. I slathered my trim parts in it and had the hopper already loaded and it still skinned off so quick and then barely anything stuck. ruined all the prep work and at this point I'm not going to be re doing them again until I find a better glue. AVOID FLOCK KING kits at all cost. waste of money. 25 quid for a bottle and some fibre and a silverline paint brush. total rip off for all you get.

    • @MillerCorner
      @MillerCorner  5 років тому +2

      Thanks man, appreciate it 😁 nothing much to worry about - make sure the power steering works perfectly lock to lock at all speeds, check for all signs of head gasket failure (common on the 1.1) and inspect the rear arches inside and out for rust. Other than that, all good and best of luck :D

    Did you ever reflock your dashboard maybe you used the wrong glue or you use soft locking when you should probably use a different type of locking I'm not an expert just thinking about it and did you clean your dashboard really good like their special chemicals for plastic to make it stick better

    • @MillerCorner
      @MillerCorner  2 роки тому

      I'll be honest, a lot of people have said that DIY flocking is a dead end based on experience 😬 I ultimately had another dash professionally flocked

    • @kcg7861
      @kcg7861 2 роки тому

      @@MillerCorner
      I think it was a plastic the material on your dashboard that made it peel off there's special chemicals that you can clean the dashboard with first that doesn't hurt the dashboard but it gets all the oils out in a neutralizes the ABS plastic

  • @mikep.3874
    @mikep.3874 Рік тому

    I wonder how many FLOCKING kits have destroyed dashs? I almost found out the hard way but started with doing the hard plastic center console and the bottom unseen part of my dash. The hard plastic console turned out literally like patchy crap, the bottom of the dash was patchy but the vinyl took the shit adhesive with a marginally better result.
    That FLOCKING water based adhesive is absolute garbage. It must skin over to quickly to be useful and doesn't level off well with brush application. Bought some Fock-it solvent based adhesive and everything came out very nicely using the kit applicator and a fine Sive . You don't need a electrostatic gun to get a good result with the right adhesive.
