I don't take/like heavy breakfast, it will make me lethargic the whole morning. I prefer to eat bread ( only 2 slices ) spread with either jam, butter or sekaya ( egg custard ) Once in a while, l will have a small packet of nasi lemak or a piece of roti canai.
I liked the waiter. He explained everything and also mentioned about extra charges for extra items. No misunderstanding at the end. Very professional. Food was reasonably priced as well.
Dear sir thanks for visiting our Restaurant and had our meals .We are so glad about your UA-cam video about us.If you had visit 🇱🇰 in another vacation kindly request you to visit our HELA REWULAGE KATAGASSMA Restaurant again. I will hope you will be the best traveller of youtube ❤️
Hi Ken, watching from the U.K. as you visit my favourite place in the world. Please, please walk on the correct side of the road, that is facing towards the oncoming traffic, it is just so dangerous not to. That little tea place is a lovely spot.
Hi Ken thanks for coming to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰.... this is the first time we have faced a situation like this. The country is facing a crisis situation. We are praying for the situation to be over soon. Thanks visiting Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and hope things will be better in the future. God bless you always.
Looked like a delicious breakfast, which is way more substantial than my toast and tea here in the UK! That little tea place was really nice and the man was so lovely ☕ Enjoying your videos as always 👍
Hi Ken I'm a Sri Lankan living in US. Really enjoying your SL vlogs and hopefully you wouldn't get discouraged by all the power cuts. You should try Milk Rice for breakfast in Sinhala it's called "Kiri bath" it's our kids fev Sri Lankan breakfast meal.
Thank you for coming to our country .. Actually one of the best resturnt in our country in Matara area. Different dishes can be eaten for a different taste. You get more food than you pay for. The cleanliness is good.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Power cut, exploration must go on. I do always enjoy buying tea at a tea shop. That shop has lots of nice tea selections.
The real problem with restaurants isn't so much the electricity (or lack thereof), but rather the severe shortage of cooking gas. The electricity is helpful, and helps keep you comfortable, but there's no cooking without the fuel for the stove. I know people who have been searching for cooking gas for more than a week now, and have resorted to using wood.
That Green Banana she initially showed, the skin will never turn yellowish and it was well-ripened enough for you to try. Ask for "ANA MALU" next time. They are very sweet as well.
Love from Colombo, Sri Lanka 💙 I can't start my day without having a cup of tea..And one @ around 6.00 pm We do have coffee(twice a week may be)..Tea is love 😶❤️ I don't eat rice in the morning but some Sri Lankans do :)
Hello Ken.. You should try 🔸Fresh green leaves porridge ( kola kenda ) 🔸Helapa , Wandu (kind of pan cakes/ cup cakes made by Sri Lankan traditional rice flour) 🔸Steamed Manioc with Coconut Sambol + Black Fish Curry For breakfast during ur stay in Sri Lanka. There are more authentic dishes in here.. Love to serve u dear friend if u can visit here our premises.. Enjoy ur journey🚩 Stay safe Bro👊😇
I really have enjoyed your videos from Sri Lanka. I am from the US and I go there for a month every year. I was there during the early part of your trip, but was never in the same place as you at the same time. Sri Lankan tea is excellent, and it makes a good gift for friends back home (or anywhere else), but you should buy it in a regular supermarket, rather than in a store that caters to foreigners. It's far cheaper, and you'll get the same stuff that people really drink there.
Here in Sri Lanka most of the local restaurants have their potions as half and full. So the half means the normal portion. Also when it comes to Sri Lankan food potions, its always bit large when comparing with English countries 😅
Hi Ken, 1st British introduce Coffee plantation in Sri Lanka.. in that time, it was world famous brand.. But due to disses ,All the Coffee plantations were destroyed .. then they try some other options and ends with.. Tea.. and as a Sri Lanakn... we have some health resistance with Coffee .. so most of us use Coffee to get worm in Cold wether conditions and.. as a medicine in some stomach problems .. 😁
that green long banana won't be yellow unless it's too late to eat. it's supposed to be eaten when its green because it's already ripped. the girl didn't understand the question about ripe, she thought you wanted a yellow banana. that's either "anamaalu" banana or "ambun" banana. and it's tasty. edit: you should feel soft to the hand even if it's green. if it hard it's probably too early to eat.
Hi ken..a nice video..yes Srilankan people mostly eat rice..morning also..you now became an Asian..really good ken..healrhy food rice..staysafe..have a good day..🙂👍
Hi Ken, Sri Lankans like to drink tea all the time. That's why coffee is not available everywhere. Thank you for visiting Sri Lanka in this deficit time
Hi Ken, We have being following you ever since you are in Sri Lanka and we are Sri Lankans as well. A very important tip for you for your safety on the road. The norm is you should be on your right hand side of the road when you are walking on narrow roads here so you see the on coming traffic. Since you are in down south of Sri Lanka you must and must visit the Galle Dutch Fort. Cheers
In Sri Lanka elderly people eat sweet potatoes , mung beans, milk rice, string hoppers and hoppers made from rice flour etc. The younger generation eats boxed ready to eat cereals. bread, eggs, sausages, cold cuts etc. in cities but in the villages they eat what their parents eat.
Here in India we make batter from the rice, then we make Idli or dosa for the breakfast. Rice is used only for the lunch. Dinner normally we use wheat flour to make chapati.
Thank for sharing information about nice tea center which located in matara I am also recommended Tea house which provides different types of pure celoyn tea
We mostly like tea not coffee, adding normally milk and sugar. Sri Lankans normally drink tea in the mornings and in the evenings and after meals, whenever visitors come, we are famous for tea, rubber, coconuts and spices, fruits. Mostly rice prepared in different ways thrice a day with tea normal or common here. Eating fruits, drinking fresh fruit juice, fruits made like achcharu, lunu dehi - lime fermented with salt, Sinhala achcharu - pickle, Malay pickle, chutneys made with dates, limes, mangoes, Ambrella etc mixed with rice are typical Sri Lankan food eating style. Sri Lankan foods or recipes are very different from other Asian recipes. We use spices and coconut milk, other asian countries use mostly sauces and syrups when preparing food but asian food more similar types of preparing than western recipes, no offense, smarting curries flavoured with spices normal here. Please encourage other westerners to visit our country and try out our food recipes or our common menus please. Thank you for visiting our country, please visit Sri Lanka more often, GBU!
Regarding your question, what do you like to eat in the morning ? To be honest, that’s the only thing that worries me a little visiting Asia. As a born German myself, I like to eat a fresh toast with jam and maybe a soft boiled egg for breakfast and I simply can’t imagine eating anything hot like soup or rice.
I would like to eat “Mun Kiribath” with “Maldives fish Sambol”as my breakfast. Mun Kiribath is made of rice, mun bean and coconut milk. That is very delicious. In addition to that, I would like to eat String hoppers as my breakfast. In Sri lanka, Rice with “coconut sambol” and “ Dhal curry” is the best combination to eat as breakfast. If you interested to see tea and tea plantations, visit Kandy district or Nuwara Eliya district. There are lot of tea plantations and tea houses to check there.
Hi Ken 👋 Woww first off all the fried rice looks super delicious with two sunny side ups 😅 I would add some salads or few slice of cucumber wow that would be a complete dish but it’s surely a big portion 👍🏻 normally our great grandparents and ancestors have big breakfast especially rice because they need the energy for working at the paddy field or do farming. As for me if I’m having this big breakfast I would skip my lunch and dinner 😂 that would be my only meal 😅 I’m a coffee drinker too but sometimes I drink black tea , love the spices tea on the shelves 👍🏻 I sometimes add half tablespoon of cinnamon powder into warm milk + honey = really soothing and try add 1-2 cloves to your black coffee if you want a strong taste of it , really delicious 😋 btw I always have some fruit shakes and coffee in the morning , sometimes I cook fried noodles for breakfast or buy roti canai. Great idea if you want to make a video about SL tea...looking forward to the next one 👍🏻🥰
Coffee was grown in Srilanka originally, but later replaced by tea due to a coffee blight that killed the coffee trees.. and now tea is more popular. But coffee is still cultivated here.
The fried rice looks delicious, I too like the egg yolk soft/half-cooked. I think when you order food in Sri Lanka in future, you have to tell them that you want small portion. The past few orders that you made, they served you extra large portion, eg kottu and the chicken roti. Very interesting to know that they sell mango tea in Sri Lanka. I think it is a great idea to try several types of tea in one session in one of your video later. Reminds me of the video in which you tried several types of Milo drink in Malaysia.
You've been lucky Where I live in northern Thailand during rainy season we always expieriance power cuts Just gotta adapt no real problem my family not on life support and can do with a break from UA-cam
I also learned eating rice in the morning in Indonesia. I remember when I reached first, I took breakfast in Bandung with yellow rice with chicken which is simply a dinner menu in my country. 😀
Many people are farmers in Asia. They eat rice after getting up because they need energy to work in a farm. They eat rice again for lunch.again they need energy to work in the afternoon. Dinner is not big. Normally they eat the left over. For those who don't do hard labor, they normally eat porridge for breakfast. In America, it's different. However we should eat big breakfast and lunch. Dinner should be small like a bowl of soup because you don't need much energy to sleep.
In Asia, most countries eat rice as their staple food. As you would have known by now that you can eat rice basically any time. As a Malaysian I prefer western style breakfast like bread, some sausages, bake bean, scones, croissant and etc. I also do like my typical Asian breakfast. For instance we have nasi lemak for breakfast and I am alright with that.
hi ken actually the green banana the lady offered u was already eatable as it was a verity of banana that dont get yellow when ripe it will only change the color to be light green u should try it too and even the red banana
Hi ken I think you should know that some varieties of banana can be ripe while still having a green colour. You should try one and see, I recommend the variety called "anamalu"

Yes Aana maalu variety of banana peel turns a lighter green when ripening. Its soft to the touch when ripe. Very sweet.
It's very nutritious too.
@@ude3333 Yes. Most Cricketers eat this with some Yoghurt to keep a continuous supply of energy during playtime.

Hi Ken. Try string hoppers and curry or coconut milk gravy for breakfast.

True, I'm Slovenian, and my Sri Lankan wife says the amount of rice I eat in a meal is like a Sri Lankan child. And I like rice.
