There are lots of little details that I love about this movie, like how everyone calls the owners "Jim Dear" and "Darling" because that's what they call each other every day.
My siblings and I called our grandparents Grandma Honeybunch and Grandpa Bowse because that's why they called each other. My sister started it because she thought those were their names and the rest of us just stuck with it.
They had originally planned to kill the dog, Trusty, with the carriage landing on him. But it came out after Bambi, and there was such an uproar of upset kids and parents, that they were convinced to add in another scene where it showed him alive with a broken leg instead. But Trusty was supposed to die. I still love this movie. When I was a kid I didn't like any animated movies where the main characters were people, so I only watched the ones with animals.

There was a theory some time ago on the internet that said the reason Trusty and Jock were proposing to Lady (that's what they were trying to do after the pound scene before Tramp arrived) was because they discovered that she was pregnant, not because she was on the pound. I think it was related to the time frame between the proposal and next Christmas (were she already gave birth). That's why they were saying there houses were comfortable, and that she (and probably her puppies) would be tooked care of (because there families were nice and wealthy).
Idk about that tho. The timing would be off, wouldn't it? A dog has a gestation period of about 2 months and the baby arrived in April. So, if she was preggers, the pups would arrive around June/July and would've been around 5 months by Christmas. But Lady looked like an adult by the time she got her collar at 6 months, yet the pups still looked around her beginning age during Christmas.
Lady and the tramp is my favorite disney movie. It might just be nostalgia, but I've owned dogs since forever and it really hits all the right notes for me. I don't see Darling and Jim dear as abusive, she just was used to having all of their love and attention before the baby came along. The aunt clearly was a cat person because she had no patience for Lady. The music and the setting and the art all make this my favorite
This movie is adorable! All the doggies are just too cute! I took a quiz on the DVD and it said "hold on there, you're not a dog, you're a cat!" And now, I definitely agree! I'm more of a dog person but I'm definitely a cat. 💝
This came out when credits were at the beginning of films, thats why the opening was so long. You'll notice the same if you watch other older films from this time period. Also, trailers were at the END of movies instead of the start.
He made a lot of Nazi propaganda and also VERY racist cartoons. Whether he was for or against them, he still played into it and other forms of racism as well.
#Bingers You're next Disney movie needs to be Oliver and Company. Billy Joel & Bette Midler as Dogs in NYC. The music is fun and I think you'll like it.
#bingers I came here to say the same thing! Super fun movie, totally underrated, and every single song SLAPS I can't believe people are always going on about how the Tarzan soundtrack didn't need to go as hard as it did, but no love for Oliver and Company smh
Sadly there are still people who believe you need to get rid pf your pet when you have a baby because of old wives’ tales/lack of common sense. The cat isn’t going to steal the baby’s breath and of course you shouldn’t leave your baby and pet alone unattended while they’re still getting to know each other.
When my daughter was young, I wanted her to have a Cocker Spaniel, like I myself did when I was a kid. It wasn't hard, because there were ads in the paper all the time from families needing to get rid of a Cocker because their new baby was supposedly allergic to it. I answered three of those ads within a space of a couple months. Third time, I was the first caller and got the dog. We had him for 11 years before he passed. Lady is a Cocker.
I love how this movie shows from a dogs perspective of how they can be just forgotten and neglected when something new or better like a baby comes along. Pets are our family and a life commitment as well imo. #bingers The Aristocats #bingers We bought a zoo
Fun little film fact: It wasn’t until like the 80s (for Disney films at least) that they started doing the credits AFTER the movie. I imagine as animation got more and more complex, more and more people were a part of the crew and it just wasn’t logical to run it all before the movie! 😆
It wasn't necessarily that animation got more complex, as studios realized they should probably give everyone credit. You'll notice most of the credits only feature voice actors, lead animators, etc. All the other technical people, the ink & paint dept., etc. don't get credit for their work. It's why credits are so long now, which makes sense that they would be at the end. Same with live action movies, as well.
5:54 sadly not too long ago that was fairly common. people would give up their dogs to avoid any possible bites or scratches the dog might inflict. also a lot of people would give up their cats too based on the idea that the cat would suffocate the baby in the crib because people feared they would try to lay on the baby's head because it smelled like fresh milk. My mom had to get rid of her childhood cat as a young adult because my dad made her paranoid that I would suffocate from her cat in the middle of the night. I was their first born and I'm 27 now so this wasn't all that long ago that people did this frequently, and some might still practice this ideology sadly.
I agree 100% that there is no reason to give up your pets. But do want to add that pregnant people should not clean out litter boxes. They can be exposed to parasites that can hurt the baby. www.cdc.gov/parasites/toxoplasmosis/gen_info/pregnant.html
My Mom prepared the dog for my arrival (I was a happy surprise) and he was my keeper. She told him I was "Our Baby" and if she was a few steps away from me...he went immediately to my side. Dogs really often return the energy they are given, it's an exchange. He would open the curtains everyday and watch for my dad to come home, yes, he knew what time to start watching. People don't often realize you can add to love and a household you don't have to trade out.
People STILL give up animals because of babies, that's how I got both of my dogs (from 2 different families). But they were bad owners anyways. The first dog the excuse the owners have was they didn't have "time" for her anymore because if the baby, yet they had time for their other 3 dogs. Found out a few weeks later she has seizures, which is why we think they got rid of her. They also said they would crate her for 16 hours a day or so. Awful people. My second dog we got years later, at first it was because of the new baby. Then they claimed it was cause their new apartment didn't except dogs (even though they got a new dog a few weeks after). They also admitted to crating her 20 or so hours a day. She was a previous puppy mill dog (4 years), and when we got her she would try to stay in her crate all the time. Never walked on grass before. Had a horrible rash on her stomach from unclean conditions. Broke my heart. They're both super happy and spoiled now. I love my babies, just wish they had better lives before I got them.
Do not give a dog coffee. Donuts are fine if your dog can handle it. All dogs have different stomachs that react differently. Generally a dog either gets sick very easily or has an iron gut that can process anything. It’s important to know your dog.
@@Historian212 One chocolate donut and a dog might be fine. The darker the chocolate and more condensed, the worse for dogs. So if a dog is given a substantial amount of dark chocolate bars you’re in trouble. But dogs can have white chocolate in moderation and be completely fine. It differs on the dog though. Every dog is different.
I unfortunately have two weak stomached dogs, can’t even mix their kibble with another if for some reason the pet store is out of their brand cuz they get sick 😂 meat and eggs it has to be
Dogs shouldn’t have human food to begin with at all, it’s completely unnecessary. One potato chip is equivalent to half a burger and one little piece of cheddar cheese is 2 and a half burgers… Also dairy is the top food allergens for dogs (and cats), they may be able to eat it but in the long run it’s incredible unhealthy!

One of my favorite Disney animated movies. Looking forward to this one! I highly recommend the Disney movie "The Parent Trap", the 1996 remake with Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, and Natasha Richardson. #Bingers
I really wanna see a review of "It Takes Two(1992)" with the Olsen twins. Its similar to The Parent Trap but it's one of my childhood favorites! #bingers
Well, this movie was made in 1955. They were good at glossing over inconvenient details in those days and just saying everything's okay. But a lot of movies for kids had scary bits in them, just like the real fairy tales from the 19th century. I remember seeing this one as a little kid in the early 60s, when they revived it in movie theaters. I loved it. BTW, no one expected animation to be realistic back then. So it was okay that it looked like a cartoon.
I know this is a nitpick but, the classic fairy tales are not from the 19th century. That's when they were first written down and collected by the likes of H. C. Andersen, the brothers Grimm and so on, yes. But the tales themselves - being more folk tales than fairy tales - are impossible to pin down with a correct date. That said, they could be reaching back as far the 9th-10th century.
I’d just like to say that my first concert was The Wiggles, which is unfortunate for my parents, but is hilarious to this day, and my childhood bedroom had a Lady and the Tramp poster in it (likely still does). Never did I think the intersection of two childhood classics would be a Billy Binges video, but here we are. ❤️
I've always said that the story and atmosphere of Lady and the Tramp combined with the art style of 101 Dalmatians would make the ultimate Disney dog movie. I always feel somehow the two should've been one film, and it would be stronger for it. They're both plenty cute as is though. If I *had* to say which I prefer I guess it might very well be this. Puppy Lady may take the cake for most lovable thing in a Disney movie so that alone gives it the edge, plus I kind of like how abstract the baby song is for example. New life just existing out of the blue is a pretty wild concept.
If you look very carefully in 101 Dalmatians, you will see Lady Jock and Peg in the background during the Twilight Bark scene. Lady's in the street, Jock barks up the pipe and Peg is in the window.
I was obsessed with all the animal Disney movies when I was little so this one, 101 Dalmatians, Lion King, Fox and the Hound, and Aristocats just like bring them nostalgic water works... The princess movies never get me like that but na Fox and the Hound is my favorite but 101 and lady are pretty much neck and neck for me and yea I could kinda see how they might have been meant to be the same movie just glad they didn't do that lol love em as is 💞 (even after that lady remake 🤮) ... side note: my Van's name is Lady 😅😊
That makes me so happy! I know it’s so cheesy but I loved it as a kid and honestly I love the Cat and the Hat more now as an adult since I can truly appreciate all the jokes.
Awww this movie is too cute! #bingers 101 Dalmatians (1996) Glenn Close plays Cruella and she is amazing yet terrifying ! I think you would have fun watching it if you haven’t already! Also, a classic Disney movie that you need to see is Fox and the Hound.
@@kfordgal Yes! Now that I'm an adult I can't hear even a little bit of the Best of Friends song without starting to cry. The movie was so good but now I'm not emotionally stable enough to watch it. Same with Baby of Mine from Dumbo.

In my experience, cats with different patterns have different personality trends. Fully grey and mostly grey ones are usually super friendly and snuggly, and are the most likely to approach you for petting. Tuxedo cats are super energetic and will chase anything, including your feet when you're going up and down stairs. Orange and white ones are typically really chill and just lay around most of the time, but every once in a while they'll do something kinda crazy. And tiger striped ones are the WEIRDEST cats you'll find. My family has had a lot of cats over the years, but one of the most interesting ones was Squeakers, a little tiger striped cat that begged for food at dinner like a dog and then sat on your shoulder like a parrot afterwards. How did it get on our shoulders you ask? It climbed the chair (and sometimes our clothing when the chair didn't provide sufficient claw grips). In conclusion, cats are great as long as you get the kind that's best for your life style (much like any pet really).
This has been my favorite Disney movie my whole life. When I was in high school, I spent a summer babysitting a 3 year old girl that was obsessed with Lady and the Tramp. We watched it every single day.
I love this movie. No joke, the sequel to this movie was the first movie I reviewed on my premiere reviewing webseries back in the day and I reviewed the first movie a little later. Fun to see you watch it for the first time.
The odd thing about this is that I never saw this film until I was an adult, but I had a "Peter Pan book and record set" (vinyl, 33) of the film from around the age of three that I can still recite from beginning to end. ("At the sound of the beep, turn the page!" "Now turn the record over, and we'll meet you on the other side!") Disney did quite a few of these, they picked a character to be a narrator and just tell kids the story, so the experience was quite different (the r*cist cats, for example, were extremely toned down, even in the illustrations [which were all like watercolor paintings, not animation stills]; I didn't know anything about how problematic they were until adulthood). Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland (both of which I still like better than the actual films; Alice on vinyl had a completely different, grown up actress singing the songs) Babes in Toyland, Winnie=the-Pooh (utterly different, there's a line where the narrator asks you to tilt your book to sideways so that Tigger can slide down the jacket when he gets stuck in a tree and is too afraid of heights to jump down), Jungle Book (my/ my family's favorite, and the first one of these that I actually saw on a screen at the age of 12; probably the one that was closest to it's movie, and narrating Bagheera sounded HOT)
@@TheLlama90 the buck teeth and overdone accent were pretty alienating to Asian American children of the time, though. (And mine and every other Siamese cat I've met was a cuddly DELIGHT. Harrumph.) The times were the times. I'm glad to have had my record with less of that. 😊 (I think the "He's a Tramp" singer and Jock and Trusty were the only voice actors they brought back for the record, though! Record Tramp was a bit...more slick 🤣)
@@McCammalot I mean I've heard accents like that, the really thick ones that learn english as an adult. Spanish too, some peeps got mad at Speedy and Slowpoke but I've heard accents like that. But they suuuuper cute. I don't know what happened to mine, they probably were put on the garage and the heat prolly messed them up.
It's been so long since I made a premiere! This is my cousin's favorite Disney movie. I think it's just okay, but still enjoyable. #Bingers Beauty and the Beast (1991), Ever After, Stardust (2007), Pride and Prejudice (2005), and The Mummy (1999).
ppl tend to not notice not only was lady mad for being in the dog pound, and finding out about tramp being a tramp but she knew she was pregnant. that’s why when jaq and trusty came to talk to her they both pretty much offered to be the stepdad ( despite being old ) but lady kindly declined
I always just assumed it was because the movie takes place in the early 1900s and came out in the 1950s and in both times it would be scandalous for a woman to be out all night with a man. She was ruined in society and so Jaque and Trusty were offering to marry her to save her reputation and in case she was pregnant. She couldn't no for sure overnight.
I've always liked this movie, it's sweet and pleasant. I wouldn't say it's about neglect and animal cruelty, it's more about seeing the world from a dogs point of view. The movie came out in 1955 and is depicting the early 1900's, so you could say it's very romanticized.
Animated movies (especially Disney movies) back then weren't necessarily meant to look "realistic". They were more meant to look like moving paintings. Pieces of art. That speaks to how the objectives of animation have changed throughout the years.
oh this is such a comfort movie for me. i love the hand-drawn era of cartoons like this, 101 Dalmations, Aristocats and the original princess movies etc..
Aw I'm so happy to see you're reacting to this. Lady & the Tramp was the first VHS that I owned as kid. I watched it non-stop, and it still has a special place in my heart. Also- Most older Disney movies have long intros like that 😆
I see you Billy with the Wiggles reference! I loved that show growing up. Fruit salad and hot potato, those were so nostalgic for me! Also funny you said the Siamese Cat song is the creepiest Disney song you’ve ever heard, because it’s actually racist towards Asian stereotypes or what white people thought about Asian people at the time if I’m correct. It completely went over my head as a kid, but looking at it now as an adult…just wow.
13:50 he said trick, lol. Also if you didnt catch on, Lady basically became pregnant after the night they shared spaghetti. That's why Jock and Trusty offer to marry her
I’ve seen both and the live action one is just too different from the original. The original does have some things that wouldn’t be acceptable nowadays, but it’s still a classic and I love it.
The dogcatcher with a vendetta against Tramp specifically was sooooo annoying. Give me the classic animated version anyway. It's one of my favorite Disney movies.
🤣🤣🤣 The Steve Wilkos clip when explaining the tramp. Yas, Peggy Lee the singer is so good. If you can you should listen to a few of her songs! "Chi-baba Chi-baba", "Riders in The Sky", "I'll Dance At Your Wedding", and "Mañana".
The setting of this movie was heavily based on Walt Disney’s hometown in Marceline, Missouri… also, the warning was before the movie started was because of the Siamese cats 😕
Movies like this are meant to be enjoyed half for the story and half just for the environment. Just seeing these people in their lives and how beautiful the animation is. That is atleast half of it.

Oh my god! Spirit is one of my all-time favorite childhood movies. And growing up, I've always dreamed of befriending a horse that looks just like Spirit. Plus, the soundtrack for it is just *chef's kiss*.
(This movie, I'm guessing, takes place in the 1910s or earlier. And Trusty is a Blood Hound, Known for their super keen sense of smell. Used mostly by police to track a person or a body and the rain really kills the 'smell' of something, so that's why he's so amazing in this.) My favorite Holiday is Halloween. And you can't go wrong with Pure Talent hand drawn animation. I have had one Cocker and a 2nd one still alive now and yes, they are like this and sound like that. And lastly, I DID have two different breed Siamese and they are that loud and cuddly to their 'selective' person, they aren't that 'evil' ,they are super sweet. (Fun Fact, the Voice Actress for Lady is the same as Maryweather, and Aunt Clara is Flora from Sleeping Beauty.)
Next to Lady and the Tramp, The Fox and The Hound is my favorite Classic Disney dog movie, but The Fox and the Hound makes me cry so much for many reasons. The Best of Friends song makes me cry uncontrollably. So I suggest that movie next. #bingers

Any time a baby enters the family, you would be surprised just how loyal and protective the family dog is of that child. When he was a kid, father’s dog would sleep next to him on the floor every night. When my Dad finally left to join the Air Force, his dog ran away to look for him.
It's either a major coincidence or Billy is psychic I was just saying at work I wanted to watch that movie because it's been forever!!! Either way you're the best

Can't believe you didn't see it as a kid. I feel like you miss a little of the magic and how nostalgic it feels later. The songs are amazing. Can't wait to see what you watch next!
Whenever I rewatch the animated film now, I can’t help but think how much better structured the live action ended up being and how it is a good improvement over this original with newer storytelling.

Watching you discover these films is sheer delight. (Older films all did that, they listed ALL the credits (actors, crew, everybody) at the beginning instead of the end. I think "end credits" started being standard in like the late 60/early 70s. Except one black and white film of (I think) Frankenstein where they put "?????" in the actor's namespace after "The Monster" so the audience would be all "OMG, who can it be *gasp* " and revealed it at the end. 🤣)
The animation is meant to look like a painting. :3 it is some of the best animation done like any Disney movie. I imagine most of it if not all is hand drawn.
I love the We Are Siamese song, because it was creepy. And because the cats were devious. They were good villains, because they were able to play innocent so well.
I love how determined Lady is to sleep in the bedroom with her people. Dogs are awesome because they’re always happy to see you! I don’t know about coffee but there are certain human foods that dogs aren’t supposed to eat because it’s dangerous for them. I love this movie.

I think you are imagining things, you seem to be under the impression that the movie is rife with animal abuse from the beginning. Enforcing house rules on a pet should be done from as early an age as possible. No abuse when she was locked in kitchen overnight. When Darling got pregnant and couldn't walk or romp with Lady, that wasn't abuse. Lady had her own doggy door and the yard was more than big enough to exercise in. The afternoon walks were just an activity. There was only 1 scene where Darling lightly slapped Lady on the butt for tugging the Yarn ball, and even Lady said it wasn't hard enough to hurt which leads me to believe there was no hurting intent behind the light slap. They had no issues having Lady around the Baby. The trouble started around the Aunt, and even she didn't start off abusing Lady, she just felt lady shouldn't be around the baby, it was only after the cats framed Lady that things started to turn. While I hate to concede this point, the Aunt isn't even really evil, she only got the muzzle because from what she witnessed because her cats framed Lady, was that Lady had attacked them. It was the first thought she had since she wasn't going to get rid of a dog that wasn't hers (Tramp was a stray so didn't belong to anyone). She only thought of chaining Lady to the doghouse later. so really, I am wondering what you meant by "Ignoring all that animal abuse earlier in the movie."
I used to watch this movie when I went to visit my Grandpa, it was one of the only VHS I could watch. It's a sad movie for sure but it has so much nostalgia for me. "The End. I guess..." Got me laughing, thank you for the video reaction, been really enjoying them.

Sadly there are still people who believe you need to get rid pf your pet when you have a baby because of old wives’ tales/lack of common sense. The cat isn’t going to steal the baby’s breath and of course you shouldn’t leave your baby and pet alone unattended while they’re still getting to know each other.
my cats and kids are best friends 🥺🥺
When my daughter was young, I wanted her to have a Cocker Spaniel, like I myself did when I was a kid. It wasn't hard, because there were ads in the paper all the time from families needing to get rid of a Cocker because their new baby was supposedly allergic to it. I answered three of those ads within a space of a couple months. Third time, I was the first caller and got the dog. We had him for 11 years before he passed.
Lady is a Cocker.
@@PineappPae how it should be! 🥺 my nephew’s favorite cat would lay on mom’s belly before he was here-the cat claimed him as his human. 😊
I love how this movie shows from a dogs perspective of how they can be just forgotten and neglected when something new or better like a baby comes along. Pets are our family and a life commitment as well imo.

Fun fact. The scene where the guy gives Lady to wife is based on a true story. Walt Disney himself gave his wife a dog for Christmas
Lady and the Tramp is such a cute nostalgic movie

I seen both versions you should see the new version tho it’s a little better than this and they also have a part two as well.
This was my favorite movie growing up...I watched it too many times to count! I'm a massive animal lover, though.
Cant watch the premiere at a family dinner lol :) but will watch with my morning coffee tomorrow
Cute until the Cats
@@goddessqueen7730 personally I like the 2nd better. My favorite characters in the series of movies is Lady and Angel
@@bethd.6670 Yes, that occurred to me too! Makes sense tho haha!
Sadly I still know people who gave up their pets 😕
No chocolate donuts, though. Chocolate can make dogs very sick.
Also tomato pasta sauce aren't good for dogs
I unfortunately have two weak stomached dogs, can’t even mix their kibble with another if for some reason the pet store is out of their brand cuz they get sick 😂 meat and eggs it has to be
Dogs shouldn’t have human food to begin with at all, it’s completely unnecessary. One potato chip is equivalent to half a burger and one little piece of cheddar cheese is 2 and a half burgers… Also dairy is the top food allergens for dogs (and cats), they may be able to eat it but in the long run it’s incredible unhealthy!

This animation is just so beautiful. The good old Disney days
One of my favorite Disney animated movies. Looking forward to this one!
I highly recommend the Disney movie "The Parent Trap", the 1996 remake with Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, and Natasha Richardson. #Bingers
Poor Natasha Richardson.
I really wanna see a review of "It Takes Two(1992)" with the Olsen twins. Its similar to The Parent Trap but it's one of my childhood favorites! #bingers
@@BethanyGala That's another really good movie. Also starring Steve Guttenberg and Kristie Ally. 😊
yess omg i loved that one as a kid! 8 year old me had the biggest crush on chessy for some reason lol
I prefer the 1961 version of The Parent Trap tbh :)
Exactly, though they were still the most beautiful cartoons ever put to film.
Yeah the point of animation is not to look exactly like real life
I know this is a nitpick but, the classic fairy tales are not from the 19th century. That's when they were first written down and collected by the likes of H. C. Andersen, the brothers Grimm and so on, yes. But the tales themselves - being more folk tales than fairy tales - are impossible to pin down with a correct date. That said, they could be reaching back as far the 9th-10th century.
Those Siamese cats scared the hell out of me as a kid.
You're not alone.
I can’t believe you haven’t seen this one! Such a classic!
im so exciteddddd #Bingers Lilo and Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon, and Pirates of the Caribbean if u havent seen that one
I like both movies for the different stories they tell (I LOVE 101 Dalmatians!) glad to see another Disney pup fan!

I think that Tramp was generalizing. He was abandoned when his owners had a baby so he assumed it was S.O.P.
They explored Tramp’s backstory a little bit more in the remake.
("At the sound of the beep, turn the page!" "Now turn the record over, and we'll meet you on the other side!")
Disney did quite a few of these, they picked a character to be a narrator and just tell kids the story, so the experience was quite different (the r*cist cats, for example, were extremely toned down, even in the illustrations [which were all like watercolor paintings, not animation stills]; I didn't know anything about how problematic they were until adulthood).
I had some of those too but were tapes!
Si and Am were not that problematic. Really maybe their attempt at the buck teeth
I love Siamese cats and wanted one after playing with one and how affectionate they were, but after learning they really do be acting like that when they by themselves and if you don't have them use their energy, I'm not a suitable human for them. But they suuuuper cute.
I don't know what happened to mine, they probably were put on the garage and the heat prolly messed them up.
@@TheLlama90 okay

When I was a kid I used to watch this movie around 4 or 5 times a day, and that lasted at least 5 years hahahaha I ended up destroying the tape 😅
ppl tend to not notice not only was lady mad for being in the dog pound, and finding out about tramp being a tramp but she knew she was pregnant. that’s why when jaq and trusty came to talk to her they both pretty much offered to be the stepdad ( despite being old ) but lady kindly declined
He called her a trick, not a prick. Lol
I love the way older Disney movies start. Beautiful music over concept art and lovely text. Classic.
I've always liked this movie, it's sweet and pleasant. I wouldn't say it's about neglect and animal cruelty, it's more about seeing the world from a dogs point of view.
The movie came out in 1955 and is depicting the early 1900's, so you could say it's very romanticized.
The warning that appears on Disney+, is for Siamese cats: Si and Am as they are considered racial stereotypes of Asians...
(Hate worthy character shows up)
Bill: They must die!

"She has the same collar as Scooby Doo." Holy crap! I never realized that! 😲
