My water pump went out I kept driving mines ...it over heated cut off ..replaced the water pump now it's starts but once I let off the gas it cuts off... Any clue what that could be? I have 08
Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. My old Jeeps have hard, scratchy interiors, but they're over 25 years old with over 180,000 miles each and don't show much (if any) wear. Meanwhile, all the cars my family has had with "nicer" interiors when new, all the soft touch eventually wears off and the interiors are left looking (and feeling) disgusting. If I'm keeping a car for a long time (which I tend to), I'd rather durable materials.
Enjoyed this. Right length and David always makes things interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable. Perhaps alternate between, piles, cool vehicles, and ones David will dislikes.
I bought a 2 year old used one back in 2012. They were the cheapest 4wd SUV at the time with a decent towing number that seemed suitable for towing motorcycles. And it did so well. Was the interior hard plastics? Yes but kids trash car interiors anyway so hard plastics was a plus in my book. And the steering wheel deterioration is normal on alot of cars in sunny climates. It had adequate power. I towed a double axle U-Haul trailer full of camping stuff from East TN to the Everglades and never felt like I was risking my life. It did get pretty rough gas mileage though. I think it was mid to high teens. I felt like it rode like a truck which is not a compliment. It gets all it's hate because of the styling which is very subjective. My now ex wife thought it looked tough. Personally I could have cared less. It did what I needed and I made some good memories driving it to vacations. All that said I think this will be a fun series to watch!
I actually like the delivery of your presentation and enthusiasm to your work. But hell im going to buy a Dodge Nitro seen as my current car is about to pile in, they are cool af! I see so many really good reviews on this vehicle in the UK and the price is pretty good.
The crappy interior looks like it held up well, other than the steering wheel. Never underestimate the average person's ability to trash out a car's interior. No cracks in the dash, though. Ultimately, someone wised up and got themselves a Honda. Hopefully, it serves them well.
The Nitro is a good truck with very few reliable issues. The 3.7 V6 was pretty shitty in anything it went in. The Dakota, Liberty, Commander, etc. The correct engine for the Nitro is the 4.0 V6. Much more powerful than the 3.7 and very few issues. Most people only ever have to replace the water pump and radiator at some point. There’s nothing wrong with the Nitro.
At this point I find the world of shit cars and poverty in the US pretty depressing. I wish transit/biking/walking was an option for a lot more people.
this is actually a pretty good car but only if you can get it in the higher trim model that came with the 4 liter v6. it got rid of a lot of that cheap-looking Chrome on the outside and instead was color matched with the rest of the body. the better trim would also come with leather interior seats instead of the grody fabric ones. sure it still had the lackluster plastic Interiors, but the jeep liberty's that came out around the same timeframe and was pretty much the sister car of the nitro, weren't much better.
Of course, what was left unsaid was that if you still lived in Detroit, you wouldn't have found one of these as the rust monster would have devoured it long before now. I"ll just add that if I found a guy underneath my car with a cordless sawzall, he'd be singing soprano for a really long time. This can be a good series, David and I look forward to more.
That is a lot of hate on the Nitro. I have a Nitro with the 4.0 V6 and the NAG 1 (Mercedes) automatic transmission and part time 4WD. It is decently speedy and has a lot of room. MPG not great but can tow 5000 lbs and is good off road (not great, since no low range). It is not a front drive SUV pretender but a real truck.
I guarantee it will go to auction. They may sell it to an intermediary to spiff up before the auction. (pipe, cleaning, replace steering wheel from junkyard)
Personally I kind of like the styling of the Nitro. Otherwise though, I completely agree, the cheapest, hardest, scratchiest plastics everywhere they aren't supposed to be, being dragged along by an ancient (not in a good way) V6 and 4spd slushbox.
Sadly, I’ve noticed we’re back to cheap cost cut interiors on new cars to offset the cost of all the “tech”….even in new Hondas. Hard plastic door panels and the exposed sound deadener that passes for carpet these days….jeesh!
I dont care if i sit on a fruit box and it has a square steering wheel... All cars break down, but how often??? With the history now behind it... GET TO THE POINT which you never did... Waste of time...
I think the styling was supposed to be reminiscent of classic off-roaders such as Toyota Land Cruisers and Willys wagons... which just makes it extra sad. It's a crappy off-brand version of aspirational vehicles, that aspires to nothing itself. Also a waste of a good name, "Nitro" would sound cool if it was applied to anything else.
These were the most hideous looking vehicle I have ever seen. Absolute piece of garbage. Looked like a cross between a poor mans Jeep and something on the cover of a 1999 Lil Wayne CD.
Please never change the temp intro
I bought my 2011 in 2013, still have it. In all that time, I've only had to replace the water pump.
Thing is an absolute TANK in the deep snow.
I bought a 2009 3.7 in 2020, still going strong
My water pump went out I kept driving mines ...it over heated cut off ..replaced the water pump now it's starts but once I let off the gas it cuts off... Any clue what that could be? I have 08
absolutely do not change the intro
Why so much hate on the dodge nitro😅😅 I own one myself and I looooove it I just looooove dodge period
The front end of the truck looks better than you.
honestly, I'm so tired of hearing people complaining about hard plastics in cars
If its not a Rolls Royce who cares?
Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly.

My 2008 nitro has 210 thousand miles ...the only problem I've had is the ac compressor went out ....sooooo..there's that😂😂
I've had one for about a year and it's so much better than I thought it would be.
Enjoyed this. Right length and David always makes things interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable.

Oh, you'll love the next one then. It's primo.
@@theautopian1551 Looking forward to next Tuesday!
Looking forward to more episodes
I have one. It's fine. Your review is pathetic.
You criticize milage while it weighs 4500 pounds and can tow 5000. The car looks fine. Retro.

Dump the Trade in Tuesday title, Call it Scrap Value.
Too late, but Scrap Value is also an excellent name.
I like the Nitro

This is my favorite video from you guys yet
This is my kind of car porn! Shitboxes!

I love the lady rolling up her window when you were beside her
There was a video game called Blacksite: Area 51 which Dodge sponsored and the Nitro featured heavily in a level. It was funny even back then.
Coming soon to a buy here pay here dealer near you!
At this point I find the world of shit cars and poverty in the US pretty depressing. I wish transit/biking/walking was an option for a lot more people.
You better keep that intro!! 🤣

I just bought one of these with the manual transmission and the drivers side catalytic converter was missing also
I could have done without the first 2 minutes of aimlessly wandering around.

Great series!
Other than the styling, is it worse than the Liberty?

I am amazed at how there is not a speck of rust on it.
Didn't you work for Chrysler at the time this vehicle came out?! I'd love to hear some insider stories about that... Possibly as a separate series.
If I remember correctly, he was working at Chrysler during the FCA era and worked on the JL Wrangler.
The long search was too long but had me glued, lol.
Great series.
I hope the previous owner is in love with their new Honda and got something nice (Civic Sport hatch, maybe?) and Galpin sends them their plushies.
What will Galpin do? Will they scrap the car, replace the cat and sell it to a buyer, or get rid of it in an auction?
I too would be curious to know this.
I guarantee it will go to auction. They may sell it to an intermediary to spiff up before the auction. (pipe, cleaning, replace steering wheel from junkyard)
I remember when these came out - folks stayed away in droves....
I didn't...got mine in 08... 210 thousand miles later ...the ac compressor went out ...and that's it
Personally I kind of like the styling of the Nitro. Otherwise though, I completely agree, the cheapest, hardest, scratchiest plastics everywhere they aren't supposed to be, being dragged along by an ancient (not in a good way) V6 and 4spd slushbox.
Can you buy it for $500 so we could turn it into a 24hoursLemons car?
What a wonderful, terrible, wonderfully terrible idea.
This is excellent, but you need to make the intro permanent!
title suggestion: make the font like a 90's no limit album BLING BLING
I don’t agree that looks like crap , it looks very interesting, very off road looking
people just haters lol
Too good!
You are so slow in the head I've had mine since New and still better than many
The headlights always confused me. How couod such massive lenses could still have terrible illumination.
This actually answered a couple questions I’ve always had about the Nitro. And, yeah; it’s a cynical, sad vehicle…😢
You can literally build your car how you want it
Sadly, I’ve noticed we’re back to cheap cost cut interiors on new cars to offset the cost of all the “tech”….even in new Hondas. Hard plastic door panels and the exposed sound deadener that passes for carpet these days….jeesh!
quit lyin
New honest slogan...
Dodge. Could Be Worse?
Finished with a rising intonation.
I dont care if i sit on a fruit box and it has a square steering wheel...
All cars break down, but how often???
With the history now behind it... GET TO THE POINT which you never did... Waste of time...
So they gave you a dangerous car to drive.
The Dodge Journey is the more reliable one to get, in my opinion 👌🏿
Just make sure you get the V6, the 4 cylinder is a gutless dog when full of passengers.
A shit box on wheels 😂
