- Breadwinners, a cartoon on Nickelodeon that lasted for two seasons about two best friend anthropomorphic ducks whose job it is to deliver bread with their flying van on their planet of Pondgea. Breadwinners had a very interesting start as a show as it was given the chance to be a full fledge show based off of a UA-cam short and a dream. Today, let's look at how this trail of breadcrumbs tells the story of the rise and sad fall of Breadwinners.

I loved it!
I was kinda a fan, lol. Breadwinners came at such an interesting time, but it wasn't exactly anything too unique to last very long.
Liked it a lot growing up, though as I got older I understood why people didn’t like it. Regardless it still gives proper nostalgia lmao
A decent show that got on my nerves cuz when your younger sibling is absolutely obsessed with it and you cannot escape it no matter what sometimes it can get tiring lmao

My young cousin would see the show on demand and watch reruns again and AGAIN, the same with Teen Titans GO! too. I mean the repeat viewings was just damn awful.
Hate to admit that I was that guy in my family, but with almost all of the 2010s era of Nicktoons. Thankfully, Loud House snapped me out of that
No matter what will ever happen, this Nicktoon will always hold a special place in my heart, even if I will ever begin to hate it like most of the people out there. It had a huge impact on my pre-teenage life, and without it I wouldn’t most likely be who I am today…
Also, I’m gonna be honest here: This show DID have a potential to be a well-received cartoon, but Nickelodeon decided to waste it by filling it with plenty of unfunny butt/fart jokes, which basically ruined it. This makes me just sad…

I agree, the premise is an interesting idea but they didn't even do anything with it, there's no reason why they're ducks except for bad duck puns sometimes

The show is very unique for what it was. The breads were creative and the characters were awesome. It’s sad to see it go away. 😞

Honestly, I like the show's art style, the concept, and pretty much most things about the show, but they relied way too hard on butt/fart jokes for me to enjoy the show
Yeah, this is exactly how I feel about this show too. I liked this show's video game-inspired aesthetic and it does seem to have a small potential to be good and funny, but the constant butt/fart jokes (among other problems) just didn't do it for me. I considered it one of Nickelodeon's weakest cartoons, but not the worst Nicktoon ever. Shows like Planet Sheen, Fanboy and Chum Chum, and Butt Ugly Martins comes to mind.
Same it cant flow if the comedy has to be butt or slapstick will prevent or have the tone hit a brickwall

Me either. lol. I was not a fan of the show. But I've gathered that some of it is just all nonstagia for some people that grew up with the show and I get that. I'm glad that they're able to like something out of this show.

It’s true, we only lasted two seasons, but I’m eternally grateful we got to make TWO WHOLE SEASONS OF A CARTOON! WHA?!?! It’s such a huge privilege to get the opportunity to make a show like this in the first place. And we had a truly talented crew of artists, writers, production workers and execs supporting us along the way! What a fun (and quazy!) collaboration. Thank you all for being a part of it! Quack! @@JordanFringe94 also I know that your busy right now but another nickelodeon cartoon like breadwinners got mistreated and it was monster vs aliens the show from 2013 it caused nick to end their partnership ship with dreamworks in 2014 you should make a video about it it really interesting

Lately, rewatching Breadwinners has gotten me through a lot of stuff and I’m just grateful that the show exists because if weren’t for Breadwinners, I don’t know where I’d be today. So, once again, thank you for creating this show. You and Gary Doodles are my heroes! 🍞🦆
The character designs of the _Breadwinners_ looks odd. The protagonists supposed to be ducks (hence the idea of "ducks eat breads"), but they look like frogs at first glance.
*Advice:* Bread can be unhealthy for ducks. If you're looking for something to feed the ducks in the park with, try some alternatives like grapes, rolled oats, peas, or frozen corn.

Additional advice: Be aware of the status of avian flu where you live, and if you're in an area with a spike of it, try to avoid feeding the birds if you can help it! Especially with the outbreak this year, the flocking and crowding from birds being fed can lead to a rise in infections, which puts them at an increased risk of sickness and death from it, not to mention the potential for getting people and pets visiting the parks sick, too. We've lost a good 20 or so birds in my town alone in the past month and a half or so, and those are just the big standout ones people have noticed and reported - It's hard to say how many haven't been noticed or ended up getting eaten by another animal or washed out to sea instead :') Even though a lot of the reporting has been about its impact on poultry, they're not the only ones being impacted; the wild waterfowl, ducks and geese and such, are getting hit pretty hard by it around here, and it's capable of spreading to mammals that interact with them, too. There's even been an increased number of seal strandings around here this year, several of which ended up testing positive, and based on the positivity rate and the history of avian flu's variations causing problems for marine mammals, it's suspected it's not just a coincidence. Do your best to be safe and responsible when interacting with wildlife, for your and their sakes!

I loved this show as a kid and even had a crush on SwaySway 😂 I forgot about it for a while and just recently rediscovered the show and the memories I had of it. It will always have a special place in my heart

This show gets way too much hate. I watched this show a ton throughout middle school. I always say this: Mid-2010s Nick (2014-16) was such an interesting and different era for the network. From animated shows like Breadwinners to unique live-action projects like Make It Pop.
Yea its not the best show ive ever watch but its pretty solid to me at least.
When I was 13-14 then I loved this experimental era of Nick BreadWinners was my favorite and hated Make It Pop thought it was annoying.

I’m gonna be honest: no matter how many gross-out jokes there was, which is undoubtedly the main reason people bagged on it, this show had a LONG place in my heart. I was glad to give it a chance throughout all 40 episodes, and I feel like people need to acknowledge that not every show has to have a massive in-depth story spanning its entirety to be exciting. SpongeBob effectively excels at that, and when THAT wasn’t on, Breadwinners was my secondary mindless show - and I mean that in the nicest way possible - that I could watch without having to exert my brain so much. Being juvenile isn’t something to despise and, frankly, Robbie Damon (SwaySway) got tons of love for the “Jenny Quackles” song amongst millions of people, whether as a meme or for real. I knew a select group of people who loved it. Breadwinners is not my favorite show, let alone my favorite show of all time, but it’s not that bad at all.

Yea no I loved the show when I was younger and to be honest I still love the show pretty much like you it holds a place in my heart too man
I actually somewhat liked this show. I don't care for grossout humor, even The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy wouldn't get me to change my mind on that and I grew up loving that show, but I did like the art style and most of the characters had something charming about them. The bread puns were amusing at times and I especially liked the video game aspect of Bread Winners. Them powering up to solve a problem was sometimes the best part of the show. Shame they focused more on Buhdeuce's ass than on that concept.
I actually never minded the butt jokes. But only the booty kicks and funny butt dances. It was fun to watch.
The butt licks, farts, and gross stuff were unnecessary though.

I feel like this show got too much hate tbh when it was so fun and bouncy to me.
Even to this day, being 22 years old going on 23 in a few months, this show will forever be in my top 10.
I’m starting to realize a lot of the shows I loved when I was around 5-10 are heavily hated and while I understand why if still makes me sad in a weird way. This show, Sanjay and Craig, TTG, etc created some really happy fantasy memories for me that feel sorta tainted now.

Those shows were supposed to be for a 5-10 year old demographic. These are mostly adults looking back on these shows looking to deep dive into elements of a show most kids wouldn’t care about lol

As much hate as the show gets, it’ll always have a special place in my heart. Even before learning from this video that the episodes are built around the music, I sometimes noticed how rhythmic the show was. I still remember noticing how the characters would move or walk to the beat of the music, and that was kinda cool to me. I really appreciate you finding the good in a show that gets so much hate, and a show that I will always love despite the aspects that other people don’t really like. Plus the story of how the show came to be gives me a new appreciation of it
The video game based pixelated backgrounds of this show was what really stood out to me. Along with sway and baduece being best baps 😄
I absolutely loved this show. The way the rhythm and the animation synchronized together was so amazing to me as a kid.

Jordan Fringe just happened to be built different compared to other cartoon channels in the community.
I agree that knowing the story behind making each episode makes the episodes themselves more tolerable. It makes them fascinating to watch from a creator perspective. Otherwise, the show is a hard "meh". It's just like how the interdimensional cable episodes of Rick & Morty arent funny unless youre aware the entire thing is ad-libbed.

I miss Breadwinners. the show was borderline brilliant. It never took itself too seriously, and the way that everything flowed to the beat was amazing.

Breadwinners was a show that I haven’t heard about in a while, but seriously, I REALLY ENJOYED THIS SERIES AS A KID! I loved some of the jokes and the music and especially the art style, but it’s sad to see it was getting shoved aside and forgotten about
Used to love watching this show with my cousin, we liked immitating some of the lines and had lots of fun just sitting trough the episodes ! The way it ended tho is kinda sad ...
Honestly this was one of my favorite shows back then. Was it the best? Not at all, but I found the idea of something as weird as bread holding different powers and flavors that aren't normal to be a very interesting idea on paper.
Too bad that the voice acting and overall feel of the show was the opposite, breadwinners really sold the bread ideas but the rest didn't make it go far in my opinion... still a better show then some we have seen back when it came out.
I remember ever cartoon reviewer online hated this when it came out.
Interesting note; Eric Bauza (unless I'm mistaken, I believe his last name is pronounced very similarly to "Bowser") also voices various Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbara characters. Bugs Bunny, Pepe le Pew, Tweety, Speedy Gonzales, Daffy Duck, Boo-Boo Bear, Atom Ant, Dino, Marvin the Martian, Henery Hawk, Barnyard Dog, Woody Woodpecker, Stimpy, Foop, Fozzie Bear and even the voice of Luke Skywalker in the Lego Star Wars game. And he voices Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse in MultiVersus.
I liked this show because it was very funny in my opinion (minus with the gross-out humor) and I liked the crazy types of bread that were shown in the episodes! The video game references were also cool.
I will say this: I watched an episode of Breadwinners back in 2015 and I thought it was cool but it's unfortunate that it ended too soon.

i've always liked this show, the animation and visual style are really appealing to me! the sound design being such a big part of the animation process is a really cool touch too, it really gives the show a unique sort of energy
i feel like a LOT of shows like these tend to be a little unfairly maligned, but i'm the guy who can find some enjoyment in mega babies so my tastes are probably the outlier here 😅

I remember being little and ADORING this show. I was sad because it wouldn’t come one tv anymore which is weird because you said it was going off reruns until 2020
This made me think, there are real breathing caring people behind this show, and a lot of viewers tuned into it.
Makes me wonder how whose reviewers who gave it extremely negative reviews felt, they acted almost as if the creators were inhuman, and got so anrgy about this show. The reviewers acted out little skits about how incompetent and evil the creators are, and in the end it felt like the overwhelming negativity did killed this show
True. I have always said of this show, and I do own the whole first season, that it’s not a good show but you can definitely do far worse.
I was a really energetic kid and loved this show soo much when I was younger. I think there was a lot of creativity put into it. As well as the catchy music :)
Breadwinners is one of those shows that I oddly enjoyed despite its shortcomings. Interesting considering I am very pernickety on toilet humour and animals not looking like the animals they are supposed to be. It definitely fits the general climate of cartoons at the time but I find myself liking that kind of vibe... just silly fun cartoony antics! I'm happy you could find some enjoyment in it! (Also, don't feed ducks bread. Give them peas. They go nuts for peas.)
It's interesting to see how online opinions on shows change within a small decade. When it comes out, the general negative criticisms are mostly from older people, and people who actually like it don't talk about it online by virtue of being too young to be on the net. So when that demographic grows up, they express fondness for it to balance out the criticism, I feel? Nostalgia is powerful!
I always make this joke whenever this show comes up; do not confuse it with The Breadwinner.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it in the comments but Gary is actually doing stuff for the network currently as well as he helped develop Baby Shark’s Big Show for them and honestly does share some of that charm that this show did.
i don't remember much about the show as a whole but one of the things i loved to see were the different types of bread they would have to deliver and it's effects. i thought about it back then and though it would be really cool if they released an art book with as many bread designs as the team could think of cuz i would buy that in a heart beat

I never saw anything wrong with Breadwinners. I've always enjoyed the animation style, the video-game style mechanics, and the wide assortment of characters.
This looks like a great show for children, but not really more mature audiences. I think that’s how SpongeBob got so much more popular. It’s enjoyable for anyone!
I was barred from watching Breadwinners growing up yet I loved watching it anyway, particularly when I was 7-9 years old. My parents weren’t keen on me watching it though.
I also watched it regularly during the Covid pandemic after Nicktoons in the UK started rerunning it. It was enjoyable and nostalgia provoking.
Can't believe I used to like watching this show back when I was a little kid. In retrospect, I can see why it was hated but it still holds some memories of my childhood for me.

When i was around 5 or 6, i found out about the show and loved it. I never knew why the episodes would keep repating though. Recently (actually about mid 2022, i decided to look for it again, but didn't find it on nick, so i went back on nick multiple times throughout the week and just pushed it to the side till now. Im prolly going to try and find some scenes from the show now, peice ✌

If only the CN Real era never happened, I think Chowder could've lasted longer. I actually thought _Destroy Build Destroy_ is bad until I looked at one episode on UA-cam and I think it's actually fun, it's just happened to be misleading to the channel's name *Cartoon* Network.
Glad that the CN Real era is over after Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gumball took it out, but I heard that the live-action era is coming back again someday.
I'll admit that it's not my favourite show ever, but they way it got treated was just despicable.
Nickelodeon went through so many shows that they now just sit on despite having no faith in the IP.
I mean the hate on this show was so powerful. Same with Fanboy & Chum Chum and Rise of TMNT(2018). It’s not fully Nickelodeon’s fault that the show lasted short. It’s mainly the critics out there who bashed it without giving it a fair chance.

I used to watch this show all the time next to Sanjay And Craig and thought it was a fun show and even to this day it’s art style look fun, out of context, the facial expressions, and just out of nowhere (minus the fart jokes) There were moments that i laughed from the out of context stuff that’s was happening. Around that time I didn’t even knew it was getting this mass of hatred and it shouldn’t had gotten this much of bad reviews in my opinion. No matter how much people hates on this I’m glad i had a fun time with this show when it was airing either which networks (Nickelodeon And Nicktoons).

The look of those two faces brought memories from Christmas I might have forgotten for ever.
I honestly was a decent pan of it. I love the musical scores in the background of a lot of episode scenes, and I found the general promise to be entertaining. Granted the comedy wasn't always on point and some bits of Animations were... unneeded (they seriously love butts in this show)
I know the show was never great but it will always hold a special place in my heart after all the mornings my brother and I would wake up early during summer break and watch it.
I'm so glad somebody talked about this show because i used to watch this show ALL THE TIME when it was on nick toons, even if it was episodes ive already seen. Thats how much i loved this show.
the concept was amazing. i was/am a very big fan of this show. it could have gotten bigger in my opinion if they made the jokes and humor less chaotic and childish since it was a great show with nice building, designs and characters. i liked this as a child but if i look at it now i find myself cringing sometimes. that doesn't ruin the fact that i still love it and carry great memories with it. thanks for the awesome vid jordan!
Finally the 2nd show ive been waiting for. Coming home from Community College and this masterpiece was always on. I still say Absohootly becuz of this show

I was already an adult when the show was around. But I never really hated it. Yeah, it was annoying, but I could see how it would appeal to younger viewers. I might've even loved it back when I was a kid. So I don't really think it deserved to be cancelled like that. Nick just needs to accept that not every show would break out immediately like the Loud House or SpongeBob. They take time before that happened.
And speaking of Nick (and subsequently Viacom), their self-sabotage of this show and IP purchase - like any other network - is why I would be extremely cautious of lending my idea to any of them.
Yeah, I get to keep the credit of creator. But what does it matter if the network can just pull the plug on your passion project whenever they want to? I have a good idea of a web comic series that I'm preparing to create later this year. If it somehow gets popular, I will definitely not want these networks to have so much sway over it, especially since this has been a few years in the making.

I actually remember the Pilot being on UA-cam for a while before it was taken down. Although I'm not a fan of the show, it was...different to say the very least.

I absolutely loved this show when I was a kid, I loved the bread Ideas, video game references and the characters but what I didnt really like about it was the gross out jokes which I didn't even care about. When I saw people hating this show and it had to be forgotten it made me sad. I forgot about this show a while but then I remembered it and when back to bring back the nostalgia. I kept this "liking breadwinners" a secret cuz I didnt want to get made fun of but seeing positive things about this show in the comments really made me feel better. Personally, I liked the show.
It may not have been anything special and I don't consider myself an outright "fan" (and to be honest, the, at times, overreliance on butt-humor did get on my nerves) but it managed to keep me entertained when I was bored and nothing else was on at the time.
And for me, that's the most important thing for any fictional story.

This is sad to hear since I really liked this show back in 3rd grade, sure, the humor was a little stupid and gross at times but I just so happened to grow up with and get used to shows with that kind of humor. I’m in High School now and I still haven’t forgotten the show, I’ll always miss the good old days of the mid-2010s when I used cable before we got Roku tvs

Oh yeah, Titmouse actually animated this show, too, that's a surprisingly little known fact on it.

I remembered getting all hyped when Breadwinners was on and would go out of my way to watch it.
I love the artstyle and may have developed a crush on Sway sway (i was 12 or 13 don't judge me)
But this show has a special place in my heart.

Words cannot describe how much I miss that show. It was quite funny when I started watching it. Sad that it only got two seasons. I was expecting a third one once Season 2 finished. But, alas, not all good things will last forever

I only really remember this show because I got the intro theme song stuck in my head once so badly that I could not concentrate on anything else.
Honestly one of my favorite things about this show was how there was a big variety of bread and each bread did a different thing. I also liked their level up abilities & liked the interesting side characters they had. However what I wasn’t a fan of was one the humor (which is what is constantly presented) and two the lack of direction (which you know is important for a show).
I thought the show was great! There was some moments where I felt the show went a little too far when it came to it’s gross-out humor, but the visuals and music were good enough for me to love the show. Still feel like the show (among others) deserved better. Let’s just hope that Middlemost Post doesn’t go down the same way.

I remember avoiding this show because I didn't care for the art style and the previews made it seem too silly for me. Great video though!
