Seagal is superb. This is elite martial arts and like poetry. Simply a grandmaster at work. A shame that people have no clue about what they're actually watching.
He had a really good uke here, Haruo Matsuoka, if memory serves correctly, but would Seagal look nearly as good or be effective if he didn't have a cooperative student there to make him look good? Have we ever seen him apply his martial skills against anyone who wasn't going along with the program?
Matsauka told in an interview how he left Japan, left his family, at Seagal's request to go with Seagal shihan to America to be his uke. So Seagal could perform aikido demonstrations, open a school and grow his Aikido business in America. After Seagal used him to get famous and wealthy he cut his uke off and just kicked him out the car. So his uke went back to Japan lost, his youth spent in service to Seagal but doing nothing for himself. All he knew was being an uke and teaching aikido. His parents had passed while he was being a loyal uke in America for Seagal. It was a very sad story. And very insightful into the narcissistic personality disorder of Seagal shihan. Today Seagal hides in Dubai UAE to escape extradition for charges of rape, human trafficking and rape of a minor.

es, people do come at you like that, but if you watch carefully Seagal is manipulating the distance so only certain attacks can be made... distancing is one of the key skills in Aikido, similar to how boxing uses distancing. If you've ever been in a real fight or sparred in BJJ first thing someone does is grab you anywhere they can: wrist, collar, cuff, hair, ankle, leg, etc... people who have never been in a real fight or trained BJJ or another martial art don't know this. But yes, it's a half speed demonstration or slower and in Aikido people know how to take the falls so they don't get hurt... each Aikido technique has the option to kill the attacker, or break bones, or dislocate joints, or just submit the attacker... the choice is up to the nage (person performing the technique.) On the last move, you think that you would survive getting your head body slammed into the ground if you didn't know how to take that fall and it wasn't less than half speed, no you wouldn't survive.

That’s the same with any Aikido instructor they often have their “favourite uke” who plays the game
