Hello Matt. I appreciate these videos!! My ex purchased an 01 for my oldest daughter first car 😩 she’s super stoked on the vehicle but it’s got some issues. First off fairly mechanical I did the front struts and the rear shocks in about two hours from your videos. Super informative and very detailed!! So the reason I’m reaching out. Super loud banging and clanking from the front end metal on metal. As stated above replaced the struts. But it’s still there. Pointing my finger at the lower control arms. You started you had a video describing how they could be replaced in 45 minutes!! Dug pretty deep throughout your channel and others never saw one that was descriptive except for a guy who did one in the dark he did a good job explaining but couldn’t see a thing.
The best way to find PT videos on my channel is to go into the playlists and find the PT cruiser repair playlist. Here is my control arm replacement video: ua-cam.com/video/dwWeDyUzfPQ/v-deo.html
A little late of a reply. But my 06 was doing that banging when I hit a bump. It needed new control arms. I also had to do the sway bar links. Was not cheap.
You’re awesome, watched your front end suspension vid to help me out. Wasn’t car savvy until I watched pretty much all your stuff. If you don’t have one already, can you do one of changing the motor mounts?
Hi Matt, thanks for your videos - without them I would never replace engine mounts and lower arms. Now I need to replace rear struts and springs. How do you replace rear spring - do i need to unmount strut? Thank you in advance.
The springs are easy, you just have to place a Jack under the rear axle and disconnect the shock and then lower it down all the way and you will be able to remove the spring, replacement is a reverse. There is no strut in these cars, only a shock and it is actually what holds the axle from over extending. Sorry I have been busy and haven’t been watching comments as close as normal.
The wheels came from Tire Rack. Actually so did the tires but I'm not sure what brand the wheels are. I know the tires are Michelin Pilots but they weren't very good... bad traction on anything except perfectly dry roads, they didn't wear very good and they started to weather crack pretty early on.
@@CarswithNash thank you so much for responding! I have always just had trucks most my driving life. First time pt cruiser owner, bought it a couple months back because I gave my gas mileage car to my daughter as her first car last month. Wasn’t looking for a pt cruiser just came across a good deal. It’s a 2003 with 62,000 original miles! It’s a standard shift and it’s like driving a little go cart lol Anyways thanks for the videos you’ve helped me a ton getting to know the car.
@@CarswithNash man thanks! I just checked out that site, tire rack. Found what I’m getting after Christmas and I guess I’ll do the struts, shocks, brakes, and calipers.
@jdlambo6926 Yes they are very fun little cars, if you scroll back through my videos quite a bit you'll find one where I autocross my completely stock 2004 non-turbo, automatic, which I had only bought a few days prior for $600 (the gold car) anyways I was the third fastest car at that event, there were literally cars there with triple my horsepower that I was out running because I could corner so much quicker. That car actually hung me from the seatbelt on one of the corners on that autocross course, never had any other car do that, literally suspended in the seat belt with my butt and back inches away from the seat. Have fun with your Cruiser. I'm glad to hear my videos are helpful to you.
@@CarswithNash wow! I don’t remember seeing that video but I will watch it in a bit. I almost bought 2 2005’s not long ago for 600$. One has a blown engine and the other has a blown transmission, I’m sure the guy still has them. I bet those motors don’t weigh much and the swap might not be to difficult for a beginner. I can’t get over how quick these little things are. Mines just the non turbo 2.4
So I bought rear shocks for my 2001 pt cruiser and the top does not have a jam but and it is not 18 mm I don't have a impact and now I need a breaker bar and another ratchet and either a 21 or 22 mm sockets. I don't know why mines different but whatever this sucks
Hey how are these shocks holding up and feeling? I'm debating between these ones and their Gas Adjust which is a stiffer shock, but I'm having a real hard time lol
@@JustinPVlogs I definitely don’t like stiff suspension myself. My brother took ownership of this car right after this video and he has since added over 100,000 kms (60k miles), he drives on rough roads and the shocks have held up great.
@@CarswithNash Ok thank you! I think I'll go with the OEM replacement as I don't want too hard of a ride with the car. Doing the shocks, watts link, sway bar end links and bushings, following your videos, they're great! :)
Thanks for the great instruction! After watching your video, my son and I easily replaced the rear shocks in his 2003 in less than 90 minutes!
Christian Kelly Excellent! Thanks for the feedback!
Well done! Short and to the point. Thank you.
Thank you I appreciate the feedback.
Mission accomplished ! New shocks installed.
Thanks Matt !
Happy to hear!(-:

Brandon Runnels Thanks for the kind words! I’m actually working on editing a motor mount video, I should have it up within a week or two.
Excelent
Got a quick question.
When you replace the rear coil springs, do you have to put the new ones in in the exact orientation as the old ones?
Your the man Matt.

my duuudddd, did you install a lift kit on your pt cruiser? if not / if so, which one do you recommend?
Nope, sorry and I really don’t know on that, I built a home made lift for my Neon but I like PT’s for their sportiness.
