My only fear in becoming a teacher is gaining respect from students. I've seen so many teachers (mostly in middle and h.s) get absolutely wrecked because students can see that they have no back bone. Getting papers thrown at them, their name made fun of- it was always painful to watch a roomful of teens obnoxiously laugh at their teacher
Exactly why I would never try and be a middle or highschool teacher I think they’re an important group of kids to teach and if I was rougher around the edges I’d go for it but I think you need to learn to analyze your own personality and think About which grade level is most appropriate for your personality!
1. Are you goal oriented? 2. Are you organized 3. Do teaching credential classes sound fun? 4. Would you like to spend 40 hrs a week with children? 5. How would you feel if someone younger than you would tell you how to do your job? 6. Can you explain directions concisely? 7. Do you provide attention to your loved ones? 8. How flexible are you with your planning? 9. If someone really annoys you, how do you handle it? And 10? Idk. I missed one, I guess.
I have always been told that I should be a teacher--by almost everyone I have known personally. After years of ignoring the idea, I now hope to become one in the next few years. Thanks for the video.
I agree flexibility is super important. If you are not flexible, the children will pick this up during a time change. Not good for you or for your class.
It's my second year teaching third grade and I love it! I started using the hybrid classroom setup and it requires a lot of setup, but I believe it is very worth it!
@@mayaleex3 I'm teaching in third grade, so I have all the subjects. I set it up in four sections. The first section is the independent section, where students work all by themselves, usually on writing pieces, but I let them wispier quietly. the second section is workshop. Part of our school's ELA curriculum requires 40 minutes of silent reading, so I have it set up so students do it at that section, and they are absolutely silent. The third section is collaborative. This is where the students work with partners usually on digital science or social studies, aka history projects. For this section I have flexible seating much like your classroom, which I love by the way. The fourth and final section is teacher. This is where we always write in our journals first, then I usually explain things in any of the subjects, except for math. At the last hour and a half of the day, we come together and do do math as a full class. Sorry for typing so much, but hope it helps! :)

Thank you. I'm a high school substitute teacher currently, without a BS degree (only an AS). I have never loved a job more than I love Subbing. But it is different from being the actual teacher. With this pandemic, I'm only scared of not having a job when schools open. I honestly don't even know where to start with going back to school or should I even pick one subject over general education. I'd love to hear what others might think. Oh, BTW I'm 40 and the mother of small children.

You are so adorable 😍 this video is perfect. My favorite was the part about staying in the “present” it’s so important to be in the moment with kiddos and have them build those amazing memories with their teacher. A small moment to us could be the one they remember 20 years from now ❤️
Just discovered your channel and I answered Yes to be majority of these questions. Super psyched considering I am moving forward to pursue my teaching degree!
To reduce the turnover rate in this profession remember: 1st, depending on your subject matter, on my 4 page job description contract, there was one sentence about teaching the subject matter. 2nd: many districts have additional expectations. 3rd: campus admin. has more expectations and 4th : when parent expectations differ at all, don't expect support from any of the above when your employment is threatened.

I honestly have more patience for children than adults, but I'm capable of keeping face when I have to So yes! This quiz was helpful and I did very well on it!
I would like some advice. I am very good at English/language arts/writing and have enough college credits to become a high school teacher in that subject. However, I am a bit afraid of older kids and don't feel super excited about it. It's what I wanted to do in high school, but I also know I love kids and elementary makes me feel excited. But I am not good at math at all. So, I feel like I can't do it. Do you have advice for this situation?
If you don't feel comfortable working with older kids, don't do it. Don't worry about teaching math. However, you should express that with admin when you interview for a school. I'm sure if you ask for support in that subject, they will be willing to help. Good luck!
LOVED all the food for thought and how you came about that! It really put things into perspective and I liked the affirmation that those skills could be developed or enhanced :)
This video helped me so much and gave me a lot to think about. I now have some clarity on the things I need to consider when making my decision on becoming an educator! Thank you so much!
I consider myself a very direct person when I am comfortable with them, so I feel like halfway throughout the semester I may say some stuff that some may take offense to... Even more so to parents, didn't think about that one
I think myself being a camp counselor, I spend 80 hours with these kids in the hot sun and get worried that when I'm a teacher I'll be the same amount annoyed. I need to remember I'll be in a controlled environment to have fun and use my personality to teach these kids in a funky and awesome way that they'll enjoy.
