What if Harry Potter's soul was absorbed by one of the Dementors who boarded the Hogwarts Express in The Prisoner Of Azkaban? How would the Horcrux itself be affected, if indeed, at all, in any significant fashion of absorbed and removed from Harry himself? How could this entirely derail Dumbledore's Grand Plan for vanquishing the Dark Lord Voldemort once and for all? What about the reactions of all of Harry's friends, teachers, the Weasley family, et cetera, et cetera, and even the Wizarding World as a whole, including the Ministry Of Magic and Cornelius Fudge? Could and would Voldemort/Tom Riddle himself even still be defeated in such a scenario?

I Know that the original live action movie of "Super Mario Bros." lacked a lot of power structure to the title characters but I feel like I am only one of the small group of fans that liked that version of the film and yet I also I might be a party of 1 for even having interest for it. Many people I met either do not remember that movie or never shown interest; why is it that it is one of the many films that I like is named "Mud" at the Box Office/Blockbuster/Rotten Tomatoes? I guess I am that much of a sucker for live action movie remakes of video games or other films.

Sonic the hedgehog's universe/earth always looks like it should be more part of the Digimon universe instead of S.Mario Bros. universe; I'd say the same about Crash Bandicoot and his universe.

I think the fact that mario and donkey relate over longing for approval from their father is a wonderful addition. And I enjoyed the whole "are we sure about the accents?" thing, because after that I realized I probably wouldn't have wanted to hear them talk like that the whole movie, so I saw that as more of an "if we give you this ONE SCENE of Chris and Charlie doing the accents, will you stop complaining?" kind of thing. I did like the whole og Mario voicing Chris Pratt Mario's dad, tho. Especially the "I'm so proud of you" scene. Felt like a passing of the torch, you know?

I just went to see the movie with my 6yr old son and his buddies (because I'm "that" mum in the neighborhood). I didn't expect anything. And so I was really amazed! I played the games back in the day and had a great time. And my son was happy seeing Mario make all those "game moves" and stuff - as you said, kids want to see the that. The best moment was when Bowser startet to sing and all those kids around me cringed. my son actually held his hands before his eyes and said "oh no..." and I cried with laughter🤣 (off topic: This gave me a good opportunity later to talk to him about how Peach would never want someone who is so mean to others and that bowser should better get to know her if he really wants to be her friend - educate your sons! 🙂)

So i can see why you’d think the theme was family, but with stories, the main needs to learn a lesson about the theme or teach the audience one. I think this was hard to nail down because they don’t learn anything about family or even think about it through the movie besides trying to get his bro back. Luigi probably “learns” the most and it was a lesson in bravery and self confidence.

I am absolutely not saying this movie is bad. It's funny, exciting, gorgeously animated and a love letter to the games. But I really think they played it too safe. It felt very standard and kid-focused at a time when animated movies like Spider-Verse are doing a lot of things for adults. I guess I set my expectations too high after the first trailer, but I seriously hope the next one is a lot more epic and darker.

As a movie, it was kind of boring and formulaic, but it wasn't bad... just standard... but then all of the references and the clear love that they showed to the Mario franchise made it entertaining for me to watch... If i had gone to see a different movie with this story, without all of the easter eggs and the call backs and had it not relied on my love of the franchise so much, i wouldn't have liked it as much...
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, to be honest... In the end, if I was entertained, it feels like they did their job, right? It certainly wasn't perfect... and I still find myself looking forward to a sequel because of my love of Yoshi and my wanting to see him in the next one.

I slightly disagree with the need for a third act. At the end of the day, this is a kid’s film, not directed at adults going for the nostalgia trip. Adding that twist reveal of Toad would have been great for the latter, I agree, but I think that’s way too complex for a kids movie. Plus Toad is a beloved Mario character who’s always been Mario’s side kick - would have been odd for him to not only side against Mario (which could have made sense in this film as Mario was a complete newbie to the toads), but to side against Peach would have felt really off in this universe and the dynamics they’ve made between her and her subjects

And as for "why would they throw him in a cage with his tools?" They could of shifted the gag where Bowser fries the koopa into a dry bones here.

This was my youngest’s first time at the theater and I was worried whether she’d be able to handle it, but aside from hiding her face at some of the scarier parts (Luigi’s mansion in particular), she did fine, and had tons of great reactions to various parts. I think Luke would absolutely do fine with it, and probably the twins, especially if they’ve already been to the theater. I totally agree with Ben's views, I give it like a 65-70 score. I was expecting a bit more from this. The plot and story was weird to me and it wasn't my favorite that they were "real people" entering this world. It doesn't make sense for this pipe to exist to this world in the middle of the Brooklyn sewer. Like having their parents and origin was never a question that needed to be answered. When you play, they just exist in this world, help rescue a princess, and that's fine. It was also strange to me how in "real life" Mario was GREAT at parkour around the construction site, yet at the practice obstacle course with Peach he was awful. They set it up that, they were going to have to do levels in the desert, like in the actual games and reach "check points" to get across, just to then completely disregard the whole "training" to amount to nothing as a montage, which was disappointing. It's hard because I didn't know what I wanted from this movie HOWEVER ALL the easter eggs and nostalgia was what made the movie. The music was the best part because it brought you into it, as if you were playing the game too. And of course Jack Black STOLE THE SHOW! Bowser's plotline and motivation was not a problem at all, I loved all of that, but it was everything else just fell flat.
