Booting up destiny 1 for the first time was a moment I’ll never forget. I would love if they could re-release Destiny 1 with all of its content, with no DRM, no sunset events, offline connection play, and splitscreen coop. Just do what borderlands 2 did. That’s a wish if I’ve ever seen one, but that’d be awesome.
Destiny 1 during its early days was something else. I was like 13 when it came out, and it captivated me a way nothing else did. The haunting, desolate, but storied worlds. It felt like Destiny was limitless. Its story and universe was so unreal feeling. I’ll always cherish those memories. Time has made me slowly hate Destiny 2. But I finished the fight. I’m glad my guardian can finally hang up her coat, after 10 years of fighting. Fantastic video, keep up the good work :)
I remember when i first landed on the moon. I was using some autorifle, and it felt cold and empty. i remember throwing my ghost out and protecting it for a little bit so I could use my sparrow on the moon.
@@NotLuvelydamn that’s deep. Hung my jersey up after I killed the witness not sure if my guardian will ever wake again she needs to wake up to the og d1 soundtrack
There genuinely was something really special about Destiny 1 the art direction especially. I was always so frustrated with the game at launch and early lows, but it eventually got to a high point that I really loved and Destiny 2 I don't think ever captured. I cannot get enough of the early work for Destiny 1, really hope one day we get to see the Staten cut in full. Even then though everything about it with the music, just seeing or thinking of it now and the pre release work always puts me in a comfy mood.
I remember playing the D1 alpha; it was clear from the start that this game, eventually this franchise, would dominate my life from the minute I laid hands on it. I played at least 30 hours a week all the way up to the release of Rising Iron; I couldn't afford a next gen console and had completed all the other content on offer, so I stopped playing. Then, the release of Destiny 2 on PC, and I was hooked up until the Curse of Osiris and Warmind DLCs. The Forsaken expansion dropped a bit later and my computer started to struggle to play the game, and crossplay wasn't a thing yet; so, I restarted my entire journey on an XBox One and continued to play the hell out of it, to this very expansion. And then, I stopped--- I deleted the game. I loved Destiny; it had become my life at some point... It saddens me greatly to see how far it has fallen.
the destiny franchise means so much to me. It started back when was still stuck with my xbox 360 while everyone was getting the new xbox ones. i wanted to find a game that I thought would be cool compared to all the xbox one games that were coming out and thats when I found destiny. I fell in love, the mix of fantasy and scifi was perfect and the art, music and design captured my attention. later on I finally got to play destiny 2, and even though I was a few years late to the game, I still loved grinding it with my friends. The art of the destiny franchise is one of the reasons why I decided to study to be a concept artist. I really hope they get some good new leadership because I really hate seeing destiny at such a low point. also wish they'd just make a destiny 3 already instead of trying to jam so much content into a 7 year old game. Also silently exploring the different planets for the first time while the music played in the background is a high I've been chasing for my whole life since then
Great video and thank you for sharing. This brought back so much nostalgia for me, I haven't touched Destiny since the last big update and you've inspired me to re-download it again to try and procure those memories from almost 11 years ago.
There was so much stuff cut from the original idea of Destiny. The EDZ, and Europa and even Old Chicago were all planned as launch or future destinations. These all had (and still have) mentions in the game files
I'm never going to forget when I heard the reason that the Staten version got turned down was because it was "campy" and "linear", and then Activision's influence gave us... a campier and more linear story than what was likely prototyped. Despite knowing that D1 was missing a lot of content, I played through it, and the expansions gave me a lot of hope... but then learning the behind-the-scenes and the horrible work environment, and the absolute disappointment that came with D2, man, an era was really dying.
I remember when I first tried destiny I was still skeptical so I rented it through red box right around the time blockbuster was out of business lol. Time flies
"everyone loved the world that bungie created" I hope by that you mean it was pretty, and cool to be inside of, but the truth was that the story was basically entirely told in grimoire cards, an issue that for some reason they continued in D2. The world-building and story took place MAINLY outside of gameplay in the form of these grimoire cards, major happenings, events, and plot points were in these cards and mentioned NOWHERE directly in the campaign (or if it was, it was a vague reference that you again didn't understand until you read the cards) . It was a cool and pretty game to be inside of, but truthfully you didn't understand who was who, why things were happening this way, and many many other issues that were only solved if you stopped playing the game to read trading cards in game for 30+ minutes every time you get a small collection of new ones and wanted to keep up with what was happening. Gameplay was good, the world looked cool, and it was a cool thing to be inside of, but nobody had ANY idea what was going on.
Destiny (the series) was the biggest let down. I really wanted what the original concept was meant to be. That first year of Destiny 1 was the CLOSEST we got, and ironically since the Taken King to now the more they added the more it seemed not to be what Bungie wanted and more what Bungie could do conveniently. Ugh.
Was the game perfect? No, but me and friends played almost everyday. Did the same for Destiny 2, but slowly we all dropped it. There was just something about D2 that just got boring really fast. We thought it might have been because we were older, but evertime we went back to D1, we would play for hours and accomplish basicly nothing other than having fun
0:20 If they had this I would have played it. RNG like this in a multiplayer setting _without trading_ is completely inexcusable imo, which is to say, we were in a much more principled time relative to gaming when Destiny released (before the worst of the live-service model it popularized), but I was _not having it_ then. Slave away for *a chance* at the best/a full set of gear? Immediately disengaged. I mean this could have been Pokémon with guns. This could've been _better_ than Pokémon with guns, but, on principle, is an 'individually slaved gacha machine' measuring contest that.. I wasn't about to take part in.. _Which is a shame,_ because ho-ly crap is the art direction/environment design *fantastic.* I thought about putting a party together to run through Destiny 1 after it finished, just to experience/appreciate the sights and sounds, but, never got around to it.
i love seeing prototypes of games as most of the time with garbage games like destiny the older prototypes are actually alot better then release build, it also depends on the stability and how much content they finished, take a look at elden rings prototype to release date, theres alot of unique cut content(you can obtain the cut content in day one 1.0 build which is only available on consoles via disc). would love to see that as well as gta4 prototype or maybe gta3 prototype or maybe even the skate series prototype. also i remember hearing that destiny was being worked on during halo 3's development at the time as a side project so i guess reach was also being worked on at the time as well? anyways i love seeing prototypes to video games like i said sometimes the prototype is better then the actual game.
I never played it because I switched to PC in 2014, but it always just felt like a mindless souless game with no story and is all about being a looter shooter shooting big health bars, I never understood why people liked it
@@ReachTea I wouldn't call it soulless, they just didn't do a great job in conveying the story/lore in a clear way (probably because of the overhaul of the original story) once you actually pay attention and wrap your head around the lore its actually very fascinating. guess having a badly conveyed story is a dealbreaker for a lot of people though which is allgood.

this game changed my life and gave me some of my best friends that i still talk to over 10 years later, i miss it.
Destiny was built on the bones of something so artistic & grand, we will never see a thing like it again.
Imagine a masse effect style navigation menu.
So many missed opportunities they are now paying the price for.
They had a change in the Tower recently since the last change was 2016 Ithink it was a dawning event

Early prototypes were made in halo reach's version of blam
