We went out to eat tonight and my daughter got in the back passenger seat. My wife was in the front passenger seat. My daughter asked my wife to move up for more leg room...after hearing what you said about moving the seat to look for connections and crimped wires...I went outside to my BMW 5351 2011 and simply moved the seat back...the light immediately went off...thanks for the tip that fixed!!!
I’ve had the same issues with my car. This was one out of a couple alerts that were going off in my 2007 E60. The problem I experienced was a leaky oil filter housing gasket, and that led to oil leaking into the alternator and causing everything to go haywire. I had the alternator and gasket replaced and the car hasn’t thrown that alert yet. You may wanna check the status of your alternator, takes literally 30 seconds at any autozone for free.
Great video, this has been an ongoing problem with BMW. I have a 2018 530e with the exact same problem. I'm going to check the auxiliary battery and the connections to the battery.
@@bigsosa6614 It’s been awhile and I don’t recall. It must have because I definitely don’t have that problem anymore and I didn’t take it to the dealer for the issue. There is no harm in trying. Hope it works 🙏🏽
I got something that might help you bro. One word, moisture. If all of your plates are working fine, and it looks like it does, it's probably trapped moisture tripping up the sensors.
Same problem with my 2006 5 series. Solution: scanner (C Reader 310 +, programmed for BMW, $55 Amazon) showed low voltage to module that supports SRS functions. Made sense to me due to lack of daily driving during pandemic (I’m retired). I took car for 1 hour drive to re-charge battery, then successfully deleted the error code. Now, if the car sits for 4-5 days, the error code may return. I have also put battery on a trickle charger to eliminate the issue. If your daughter’s 530i is driven daily, maybe check the alternator or it may be a parasitic draw thing. If it’s something else, your right - big $.
if you have warranty, repairs should be covered, and you can actually lemon the car once they have tried to fix it at least 3 times. I work at a law offices of Isaac Kohen, a lemon law firm that serves all of CA. I do this all day. I enjoyed watching this video very much, though!
Had same error, but with E9X series. Problem was the one of wire connectors on battety terminal (thing thats puts on top of battery, next to possitive cabble). When you screw metal bracket on top of that terminal it somehow presses the connector or move one of the wires and connection between them are lost, at the same time restraint error came out. Check if wire connectors are not broken, if so try to replace them. The only working solution to remove faulty codes are with diagnostic programm (ISTA+).
Another reason could be what i done.....i was trying to upgrade my dome light unit but doing that you have to unplug a distributer to the passenger side and i stupidly unplugged it without disabling the battery, that made the restraint system error light come on. Be careful and unplug the battery first people!
this is not a recall unfortuately, Ive been down that road...is sure ought to be a recall the stealership charge way to much to do a 10 minute diagnosis for about 300, then the real stealing begins
Not a recall on mine. Took it to BMW, charged me $250 for "diagnostics" and told me that my seats were damp from the car cleaner's and let it dry a year ago. Still happens ofc.
Took mine in today and they quoted me $16 to look at the fuse, and said if that isn’t the problem they can quote me on more expensive troubleshooting such as the sensor.
great video and some solid helpful preliminary advice that might help some people. Unfortunately this is a very common recurring issue with BMW's. Their seat mat sensors go bad and the only way to fix them when they go bad is to remove all upholstery from seat and replace the sensor. About a $1500-2000 repair. BMW's are such POS. They were great in the 90's but haven't made anything worth a damn in a long time. -still currently driving my '08 335i... which has also had the passenger restraint system malfunction for 5ish years (among many other issues).
I have that same problem with my BMW it’s been on for awhile but I noticed that light came on because I waste a cup drink on my car seat and after that the light came on state that restraint system has a problem.
If it's of any value to you, in Greece (EU), I passed inspection with that fault on. The engineer told me that if it was on the driver's side, it would be a cause for failure to pass.
thank you for the question and the answer. I'm having the same problem with my Mini Cooper and it's time for the annual state inspection . Hope it passes, will keep you posted

No Sir.....Its fuse #7...which has an amperage of 30 amps. Then, fuse#15, with an amperage of 5. He mistakenly said fuse 30 & fuse 5. Please refer to the PANEL GUIDE...! He "mis-read", the chart!
I had this light come on after I removed the battery to charge it properly, removed as it was suspected dead. When I refitted the battery I got this warning. Is the seat pressure sensor the one that senses if someone is sat in the seat?
My light is on because I had to unplug that yellow plug to remove an object jammed in the mechanism. Told the car will need to go on a dealer spec computer to reset it.
BMW charges more than 200 euros to only diagnose such malfunction. BMW is trying to make money out of a safety fault reported many times for their cars. Isn’t BMW quite irresponsible to make money this way? #bmw #airbag
I have the same issue because I took out the steering wheel and accidentally put on the ignition. And it detected that there is not airbag present I guess. I will have to see how to erase this. X5 F15.
Unplug the yellow plugs under the both passenger and driver seat then plug back up and then reset. I use foxwell 520pro and worked. Comes back on occasionally when someone rides in passenger seat. But able to turn off to get inspected at least.

Same on a 2010 528xi. You need a deep scan tool for this which is a lot more expensive and usually warrants a trip to the dealership.

One of the possible reasons given for that error message is low voltage.
