    Have a 318i Touring 1998 E36.Also had a problem with broken seat sensor 2 wires.
    Airbag light turns on then off for 1 second and stays back on.
    I placed de mod, have to reset de fault and the airbag light turned off.Good Job!
    Thanks from the Netherlands.

    works like a charm! :) since the mat in the seat was broken anyway,i took about 3-4 cm of wire and the connector from it,and then connected the bypass to it. when that done,connected it to the module. no fear of sparks. :)

    It can indeed. I'd probably prefer to fit a new pre tensioner though, as it is needed to pull you back into the seat in the event of an accident.

    great video, thanks for the share, what size diodes and resistors are those?? thanks!

  • @esoroach
    @esoroach 12 років тому

    It Works,--ONLY --- INPA makes clear that the seat is empty. (this means in a accident the airbag will not be fired!)
    To make sure the SRS reads the sensor mat right like there is a person in the seat, you have 2 use 1 diode (4001) and a resistor above 300 ohm.
    Connect both to the blue and white cable and your good to go!

    yes is a great video...firstly when the bypass is fitted does the OBD2 indicate that the seat is occupied or free...
    I have done a ohms check on the seat mat white and blue wires and there is no continuity
    is there a check for the censor that the seat mat plugs into ...the BMW manual tell nothing in the wire diagram of resistance...

  • @joonkt3483

    A diode allows a one-way traffic for electricity flow. I am curious to understand why there needs to be one resistor on each side of the diode? Will one resistor be enough? thank you

  • @bubbyvincent4680
    @bubbyvincent4680 6 років тому

    Great job! Just make sure resistors are correctly positioned since they are directional as well. On black side of diode it is brown, black, Brown, gold and on gray side of diode it is gold, brown, black and brown. Always replace the passenger seat mat ASAP to keep safety system working as designed.

    • @theconfessor1000

      Resistors are not directional. Diodes are because they can only conduct power one way.

    The module doesn't "turn off" the light. It simply simulates a perfectly working seat mat.
    You will need to have the light reset with diagnostic equipment and the module prevents the light from coming back on,since the ECU now thinks the seat mat is good.
    If you reset the light without the module fitted then the light will just keep coming back, because the ECU is getting a bad signal from the seat mat. Hope that clears that up for you. :)

  • @CptMishMashVonRandom
    @CptMishMashVonRandom  11 років тому

    Yes, It can be done on the Elentra too, as it suffers from the same common problem. It may be a little different in how it works though. Google it and see what you can come up with. Its been a while since I worked on one.. :)

  • @CptMishMashVonRandom

    @lukewowk That depends on whether the light was on permanently or not. if it was an intermittent fault then no, you dont need the reset tool. If it was on constantly then you will need to reset the light.

  • @corbett3457
    @corbett3457 4 роки тому

    Thanks, good video, very clear.
    But, can you explain why this works? What is the function of the diode and resistors?
    Why can't a wire simply be placed across the plugs omitting the sensor?
    I have a similar application of a safety bar in some plant machinery, I'm trying to figure out if the sensor is the issue.

    • @CptMishMashVonRandom
      @CptMishMashVonRandom  4 роки тому +1

      The cars ECU expects a certain resistance value across these two cables when a healthy seat sensor is present. Simply bridging them with wire will not provide any resistance at all and the car will understand this as a fault with the seat sensor. The diodes are kinda like a little one-way valve. They allow electricity to flow in one direction but not in reverse.
      Can't really offer much in the way of help with plant machinery, but I hope the explanation above helps you out. :)

  • @CptMishMashVonRandom
    @CptMishMashVonRandom  11 років тому

    Its hard to say for sure but it sounds like a module that has been retrofitted to the car, maybe to eliminate an SRS light from the seat pre tensioner or something. That's probably the most likely explanation for it. :)

  • @CptMishMashVonRandom
    @CptMishMashVonRandom  11 років тому

    It may work, its entirely dependent on the resistance the car is looking for from the seat mat.

    Great tutorial, do you know if this will work for 2009 mkV Jetta. My assumption is that the occupancy sensor is probably common to most vehicles (especially German), VW uses the "Delphi PODS". I have read other VW forums and the problem is ususally solved by experimenting with using a series of resistors to get the right amount of voltage drop to the control module ... yours is the only one that mentions the use of the diode which makes a lot of sense. thanks

    Hi, I have a question. You said this trick makes the system think there is a passenger in the seat and causes it to work without showing a restraint system maulfunction. I have an 07 530i and recently bought a passenger seat emulator module and hooked it up to bypass the malfunction, but it would tell me to buckle the seatbelt even if no one was in the passenger seat. I was wondering if this trick would do the same thing because it's basically telling the system there is someone in the passenger seat which would activate the dinging noise until you buckled the belt, regardless of whether or not anyone in sitting in the seat.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you

    I am trying to fix this problem on my Nissan Versa. I learned about this solution, but I still do not know how to implement it. My car is a different make entirely. Some video of plugging it into some holes would be really helpful as I could make some deductions. I am thinking I should make a video doing this myself because the amount of searching I've done is bonkers, and the only answers I've gotten are summarized as: diode and some resistance into blue and white wire. Well, I am pretty sure my blue and white wire is actually supply voltage, sooooooo...

  • @neurocutie

    thanks but wish you provided more details how to wire this bypass into the BMW.... and whether it would work for an E90.
    Also... the circuit doesn't make sense: In series there is no difference between two 100ohm resistors with a diode in between vs a single 200ohm resistor in series with the diode.

    1) is it the same ohm resistors and same type of diode for all bmw models? 2) will this apply to my bmw 2006 E90 320d aswell? the airbag and seat belt warning light is on. the check control computer is saying cc id 97. i havent had it diagnosed yet though but stumbled across your video whilst trying to research the problem. thanks

      Hey Hanan, I'm not a Subaru technician but the first thing I would do is get the codes read to find out exactly what your problem is. This is specifically for BMW and your own car might be very different do applying guides like this might even do you damage.
      If you do have a seat occupancy issue, you would need to identity the resistance on a healthy seat in order to make a bypass to work correctly. I'm not familiar with the Subaru system, unfortunately. :)

    Right hehe.. I have a Black box/module under my driver seat, BMW E39 and 5 cables should be connected to this box but 2 of them, 1 yellow-red is connected to a white cable, 1 yellow-brown is connected to a white one outside this box. Someone have soldered the 2 wires and i think this has to do with the Airbag light. So i'm wondering if you maybe know what this box/module is for? There is one under the passenger seat as well.

      Hi, I haven't made a module for the 3 wire setup yet but it's something I may look into, as I often get questions about it. There is of course another option for those with the 3 wire setup. You can have it coded out so that it doesn't require any signals from the seat and will always treat it as if there were a passenger there.

      As far as coding, can be be accomplished with a generic ebay $20 obd2 / usb with a windows laptop or a specific expensive bmw obd connector? Thanks

      @CptMishMashVonRandom  8 років тому

      You can use a cheapo ebay cable indeed. You'll need a laptop running windows and with a serial port, or have a serial port to usb adapter.
      When you have those things, you'll just need to get INPA/Ediabas/NCIExpert etc up and running. That's the software that is used to do all the communication with the car. It often comes with the cable or it can be downloaded online. :)

      @@CptMishMashVonRandom And any ideas, how can I bypass that on a e90?, because I don't think that there's a plug like in e46 and others.

    Will the seatbelt light stay on after bypassing the sensor since it tricked the car that there is always a passenger sitting there so it will be required us to put the seatbelt on the passenger seat all the time???

    • @CptMishMashVonRandom
      @CptMishMashVonRandom  3 роки тому +1

      No, you won't have to buckle the seatbelt every time. It doesn't work like that on this model (or at least on the ones here in my region. Yours might be different).

    Hi. I have Audi 80 Cabriolet and cant find out exactly how much resistance the airbag should have and therefore how much resistance should I put....3.2? or maybe 4 ohm?
    Its S line Audi a4 steering wheel originally
    thanks

    • @CptMishMashVonRandom
      @CptMishMashVonRandom  9 років тому

      Georgi Georgiev Hey buddy. Are you removing an airbag/steering wheel? I'm not entirely sure what you need but I'm guessing you want to bypass an existing airbag in the steering wheel, either to replace the wheel for an aftermarket one or to remove an error from a faulty/blown airbag?
      In my experience, most airbags are pretty universal across lots of brands. I can't be certain with your particular car, but check out my other video about seat airbags in a Honda Civic. That info might be relevant to what you need. Don't forget to like and Subscribe! :)

    Greetings from South Africa. Firstly i would like to say Thanks a lot Cpt for the two vids. You really were sent from above. I have the same seatbelt & airbag lights on on my 2005 e90 that have been annoying me for a while now. But just to get some clarity.... my apologies if someone has already asked these question in the earlier comments but... and My car is out of warranty so the cost of the seat mat is just too much. But just 2 Questions. 1. will the affected airbags deploy in the event of an accident? 2. What should be the resistance reading be on the Volt Meter when testing the circuit? Thanks again in advance. Will make mine circuit tonight

      +Poscent Gonga Hi, as mentioned previously in the comments, The airbags will function normally. The resistance depends on what car and what type of seat mat your car has. I'm assuming yours will be the 3-wire kind, no?

    • @poscentgonga3073
      @poscentgonga3073 8 років тому

      Yes it's the 3-wire one i discovered this last night and it has posed another problem. How do i modify the circuit to accommodate the third wire?

      @CptMishMashVonRandom  8 років тому

      Hey, I haven't performed the mod on a 3 wire myself but someone in the comments here mentioned how it could be done. Have a browse through the comments and see if that's any help. :)

    hi, i dont have access to it at the moment, look under your passenger seat. theres a plug with 2 wires in it. blue and white.
    Unplug that, you wont be plugging it back in. Chop off the plug and replace it with what you made from the video. thats it.
    You dont "have to chop off the plug, you can just splice into it behind the actual plug and wire it that way.

    @tiganhonda Thank you again :) And yes it's 2 wire regular on mine, since my E60 was imported from Germany 2006 but I can think and be sure that is the same too in Sweden. Cheers

    @congur Glad it was useful to you mate. :) I see you are in Sweden, Does your E60 have a 3 wire occupancy sensor like the UK & Ireland ones? or a 2 wire regular one?

    Can you make a similar video for the BMW models that have the 3 wire(4 pin plug) seat mat ? Generally models after 2006. Thanks

    • @CptMishMashVonRandom
      @CptMishMashVonRandom  7 років тому

      Andrei Capitanu Hi, I don't actually have access to one at the moment I'm afraid. I do have a new generation Mini so I could take a look at that and see if they're still using the same system in those but I couldn't promise anything.

      Thanks for the reply, that would be very interesting, as the new type(4pin) of seat mat emulators are between 40 and 70 USD on ebay...and of course there are many people with the issue, that cannot use the old style emulator..
