    Hi I'm in Ireland and got a Bonsai kit but the seeds don't look great so a friend said why not take a tree cutting and try to bonsai it. Just now on the way back from work I took a Weeping Willow from a beautiful tree on the canal near me and just came across your video and was nicely surprised to hear you say you are going to try and bonsai the Willow cuttings. I've studied Horticulture but no expert so please keep us informed about you Willow Bonsai project and thanks for the info in your video.

      Just a l thought, Elderberry tree planting - avoid planting too close to buildings and cement slabs is important - I just have observed at our place, as they spread out and get larger I have had to remove some that were going to be a problem for the cement foundations. I Love the plant and would not be without it ! Thanks for the Great info so I can take my own cuttings :)

    How did your elderberry cuttings work out? FYI the little bumps are called Lenticels and the area where the limb buds are called Nodes. I have a bunch of one-node elderberry cuttings in various experiments now, lots of white, swollen Lenticels but not any visible roots yet after two weeks. A friend told me they root from the nodes only so I'm looking for video evidence of roots coming out of Lenticels. Thanks.

    So if i use this method to root the willow, could i keep this water and put cuttings of oak, pine etc? Without a store brought root hormone?

      Dont know if oak wants to root. For oak tree the best idea is to direct sow in place where you want it. It will have very good taproot and will grow stronger, better drought resistance etc

    Does this process work for regular (non-weeping) willow trees?

    • @ExpeditionHomestead
      @ExpeditionHomestead  5 років тому

      Hi, good question. Yes you will see great results with most if not all species of willow

      Thank you so much! We love the willow trees around our pond, because there are no leaves to clog things up or cover the grass, and if they get hit by storms they always come back, no problem. I will definitely be starting some baby willows! Thanks again 😊

      Good to here's somebody that loves Willow Trees! Most people seem to have a very negative outlook on them because of how big they get. for those people I always try to remind them that they can always prune the tree each year to keep it small and also make sure your planting it in the right areas, common sense 🌳 thanks for sharing the love of the Willow!

      This is not a weeping willow either, it's a curly willow

      Actually there are more species of willows included there, weeping perhaps being one of them

    I thought the tree was an elder. The fruit they produce are elderberries, right?
