There was an OBS issue so the first part of the video is pretty choppy...sorry. It gets better after takeoff from BUR.
Orbx KBUR is running badly for a lot of people right now - they're looking into it.
ORBX definitely help! but there is some issues with OBS too. I'm glad ORBX is working on it though.
@@Bill4LE I think you can get rid of annoying tooltips by re-installing software from scratch. I noticed a checkbox on initial install screen that said Tootips Yes or No (or similar). Unfortunately I made the assumption that one could turn them on/off inSim and checked the wrong box. I have read this elsewhere also, but have not tried it myself. What is your take? Love PilotEdge! Auto ATC is a bit silly for RWS real world sim pilots. IMO FS2020 has quite a few hurdles to go for RWS. Has no multi monitor support for the training community that use 3 wide and air manager touchscreen below. Also weak IFR instrumentation. Thanks for video. Check out stock KSNA Hotel>Charlie>Juliet. LOL The tower LOL. Oh well they will fix it eventually.
Great vid does your system lag like this often? Your cpu is very good except for gpu is the game installed on a ssd ?
Where are you from that you reference F70? I live close to there and am considering going to school for a ppl
Appreciate that you play it safe when I'm watching you in HD mode. 16:21
Happy to help!
I'm so glad you commented about the sim not properly decreasing airspeed when you are idle with flaps, I thought I was doing something wrong (still a possibility) and it has been driving me crazy!
Ya it's definitely not you! I trust all of that kind of stuff will get ironed out at some point but for now it's just something to keep in mind.
It seems like xplane does a much better job with that. I’m sure FS2020 will get those issues worked out.
I will have to go replicate. I couldn't see your VSI but right around 70kts was a good approach. Overall I feel like 2020 is the best sim I have flown outside of a CAT-D.
Cross the controls and slip, it helps to slow you down. But yes full flaps and no power react slower but eventually seem to kick in
I trained in Indiana at an uncontrolled airport, so I pushed myself to do a full stop at a C airspace airport on my first big solo flight, it was exciting
That's awesome! It's so good to have that comfort and familiarity with all times of airspace.
Early MSFS helped me greatly with being a "good-stick." But I always wanted something like this because physically *flying* is relatively easy. The procedures, checklists, etc. is where it get's hard. IMHO. BTW, if you aren't already, you seem like you have the personality fit for being an instructor.
Well, thanks! That's really nice of you to say. I've thought about it!
I have done most all the flight sims, got hyped and purchased MSFS 2020, and in all this time have never been so eager to do it all the right way. This video did it for me. Your video has inspired me to move forward and do it the right way. This was very well done. Excellent. As time permits, I look forward to joining your discord, and I will of course be "easing into the way it should be done". Going to look at some of your previous videos. Bravo for great entertainment packed with knowledge.
Jim! That made my day! Thank you, sir! I really appreciate that a lot..Let me know if you have any questions! Hope to chat in the discord
Check out "Aviation Pro", I think thats the youtube channel, he has many video lessons on learning to fly~
you are what we need brother. keep making it simple. IMHO flying is hard enough but adding ATC makes it more challenging. I need more practice, practice, practice
Thanks SO much, Michael! Thank you for watching and the kind words!
You can use the scroll on the mouse when hovering over the knob to turn the knobs faster, so you don’t have to click
I am scrolling here. It's just that much slower than X-Plane 11's scroll wheel.
Thanks, Bill, these videos where you explain the what, the how, and especially the “why” are helpful. Funny that you mentioned us feeling intimidated by some of the ops. I tried my first PE flight last night and felt intimidated by the ATC interactions. I was surprised by this, as I grew up around GA and have watched practically every “live flight” video on YT, so I’m pretty used to what’s said. Also I have my Part 107, the training for which covered some basic radio material even though it’s not used there (except to sometimes listen). I guess I didn’t want to make a mistake or do something stupid. And the controller was very busy & was a little hard to understand.
I was approaching a Class Delta airport, and even turned around to fly further back as I got closer than 10NM before getting myself to start the dialog. In the end I made it and landed but wasn’t entirely sure I was responding correctly even though I thought I knew what I should say. 🤔 It would be cool if there was a way to play back prior ATC dialog (the way I think we can IRL) as it would be a good learning tool to see how we sounded.
Thanks, Bill! There are archives on PilotEdge's website where you can go back listen. They are great.
Just found your channel after watching a bunch of MSFS2020 videos. I'm also based out of John Wayne, so I thought that was pretty cool :) I'm still a student getting ready to start my cross-country solo flights, so I'll definitely be installing and using PilotEdge. Thank you!
Oh awesome! If you're not on the Discord, I highly recommend it! It will be great, great resource for you! Lots of SNA pilots there. Some ATC guys as well.
Great to hear a real life pilot still say 'brrrrrm!' when he starts the engine
I'm still just a child lol
@@Bill4LE ALL pilots are just children lol
This is so cool, I had no idea you could do this much training in a simulator. I am going to be diving in deep on this. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Awesome! Join the discord and let us know if you have any questions. It's a great resource.
What a really enjoyable and informative video. It's great that you highlighted that the key is providing procedural training.
Thanks, John! I appreciate that a lot.
Thanks for saying hi to all of us at the start. I wish Jon Fly would do that too
Of course I have to say hi!
Wow! Just getting into FS in expectation of pursuing PPL. ATC at this point definitely seems intimidating. I can study. I can learn. I'm confident I can fly. ATC scares the crap out of me!! Pilot Edge sounds like the PERFECT tool to get over this before I EVER even do my discovery flight, just like you mentioned!
Ya it's such an amazing tool! I was on the radio the entire time since my discovery flight (and at one of the busiest GA airports in country). It's so much fun!
I've been training out of Fullerton, and also using PilotEdge, and want to echo everything Bill says about the ZLA airspace. It's tricky and fun and can prepare you for anything! It's definitely a little more anxiety-inducing when you're in an actual plane in actual airspace and actual traffic to crash into, but it's pretty dang close!
Also to promote PilotEdge, I've had a similar experience to Bill. He went full deep-end on his training and got the super fast-track (full solo XC at 12 hours! madman) but my story is similar as well -- when I started in 2018 my instructor hadn't heard of PilotEdge; he was amazed at my radio and IFR capabilities off the bat. We were able to focus training on handling the airplane.
In my first 12 hours of training I've gone cross-country from FUL to CRQ and back which included the SNA transition, flight following, and a VFR-on-top clearance as a low ceiling rolled in while we were having lunch at Palomar. I've also flown a full IFR with foggles, including getting a TEC route clearance and shooting the ILS at Chino. BTW flying IFR without an auto-pilot is intense.
Although he was in the plane for both flights, he was hands-off and I was able to handle them as if they were solo.
Nice, Vic! Thanks for comments. Love it!
Nice video. I've not heard of pilotedge. It seems like an interesting product for practising your radio work especially in the US. Just from your flight though I would say the airspace around LA seems pretty easy compared to Switzerland. So I'm not sure I would agree with your statement that LA airspace is the hardest to fly in in the world. ;-) But then again that is only going by your short flight. We have three fairly major international airports (Zürich, Basle and Geneva) in relative close proximity and three additional smaller commercial airports (Bern, Sion and Lugano) which would be equivalent to regional airports in the US. Add to that four major air force bases and a number of minor ones plus a number of large GA airports with controlled airspace all in a very small country and you can imagine the nightmare it is being careful to avoid accidentally busting someone's airspace. I'm rather glad I didn't start flying over here till after GPS was invented. I can't imagine what it was like flying only with paper charts back in the day when I first started flying in Canada long ago. I imagine I would be constantly petrified. The fine here for busting controlled airspace is about CHF 10'000 or roughly US$10'000 with today's exchange rate.
Thanks for watching and you comments, Geoffrey. The thing that adds to the LA airspace which is not represented in the sim is traffic. Once you're on flight following, the airspace isn't too bad at all. But add traffic and it becomes a completely different beast. The US is much much much friendlier to GA though!
If yu know what aircraft you wll be flying (or several different) in real life. Get a copy of the POH, and checklists for that aircraft. Some aircraft have modifications to them that can change performance and checklists. Routinely using the correct checklists at appropriate times (even if the sim aircraft is not exact) will help when flying real time.
Absolutely! Starting out that's the best way to learn the plane you're flying...getting used to seeing the checklist is huge.
This was really helpful! I’ll definitely be joining the Discord channel. Liked + subbed.
Thank you so much, Jon! I'm glad you found it helpful! Welcome to the community!
Saw my house, well the neighborhood but still it was sick lol. So impressive how accurate this is
That is hilarious! I love it!
Fore Flight alternative - Check out Flight Plan Go. Free to use for flight sims. Android and Ipad. Works great with MSFS2020, X-plane etc...
It's a great free alternative. But you definitely get what you pay for.
Landing the aircraft does have one good add in. Sight picture on flight to landing transition. Several times I was able to get stall horn on touch down. Just had to skip some on final. Now go land on top of half dome (land in the valley next to the lodge) and pulpit rock in Norway after doing hammerheads right above the pyramids (up one side and down the other with the carbon cub! I will post those videos soon. And by the way, being a longtime x-plane fan, this blows it away!
Ya it's so fun and looks fantastic!
Great video. Learned a lot!! Always supporting our Socal content creators :)
Thanks so much, Christopher! I really appreciate that!
What a great job! I appreciate your detail and style. I just subscribed and look forward to more.
Thanks so much, Michael!
If your local airport isn’t covered by Live ATC or is not very good on there (only offers one frequency), I’d also recommend buying a handheld air band transceiver. I have an iCom. Like PE, it’s worth the investment to get more realism. If EAA Airventure takes place in 2022 (hopefully)! iCom has their own booth.
Good tip. Sounds awesome!
KCVG is Class B airspace. KDAY just to the North is Class C. I enjoyed the video!
Thanks, RC!
I just saw my home in Marina del Rey...Torrance airport, home of Robinson helicopters...
Did you wave as I went by?!
I am using VATSIM, very similar. And very helpful
Nice! It's along the same lines just with a different focus. Both can help get you comfortable with talking to ATC...PilotEdge is just more geared toward training and getting you comfortable with WHAT to say.
Why add live ATC to MSFS2020?? Do you really need an hour to explain it?? "To add more immersion and experience to the flight sim." BAM!! Answered the question and it took me 5 secs to type it. Now pay me!
Impressively concise!
Great video! First time on your channel and I just joined the Discord too! I used to fly out of MYF and the SD area, so I totally agree on the learning in busy airspace and transitions. Since almost every flight I got clearance to transition through Miramar’s Class B along the I-15, everything else was pretty much a breeze. Some people panic at the thought of flying in B, but it was just another day for me. (Also helps that some of those Marines were likely people I worked with at some point.) 🤘😜👍 I will definitely be getting Pilot Edge at some point soon!
Awesome, Andrew! Welcome :) and thank you for watching! Ya, SD gives out Bravo clearances like candy!
Someone get this man radio stack hardware. As for your 12 core CPU, the sim only uses 4 max. No problem though just tweak some settings. It runs great compared to others I've seen. Sub'd btw. Good content.
Thanks, Nathan! I have the radio stack but it doesn't work in MSFS yet unfortunately. Hopefully soon!
@@Bill4LE If you are using logitech panels they just released drivers for FS2020 a couple of days ago.
Thank you very informative and well done
Thanks, Gerald!
Ok, the physics is not that good, but i can say its a bit better comparing to other sims,it tries its best to match with a real world plane dynamics
By the way,it will improve by time to time.
Ya it'll get better and better but it's really great for learning communication, navigation and procedures.
You entered SMO frequency but never used it for SFR. Had you, you would have noticed you entered the wrong frequency (it's 110.8 not 110.3). Great lesson. In real life I always check identifier. Also, in the SFR I was taught to fly right on the radial, but maybe it's more forgiving as you said. Either way, it's one of the coolest SFR routes in the world.
Good catch! IRL I follow the radial but in the sim I rarely do. The lateral limits published in the TAC supplement are hilariously easy. Be between the coast and the 405.
@@Bill4LE If I remember correctly the 405/Ocean guidance is when you overtake another aircraft. Otherwise, it's 'on' the radial. Either way, nothing like looking down a jetliner during takeoff....
@@drfaustus72 ya ideally but it's "should" be on...a few of the LAX controllers have relayed as long as you're 1201 at 4500/3500 and between 405/coast, they couldn't care less. BUT again IRL, I fly the radial because why not do it right.
@@Bill4LE Good info. I'll do chantelles along the radial next time lol....
@@drfaustus72 let er rip! Hahaha
Good Vids Thank You From Vancouver BC Canada Hope to get back into sim flying next June 2021 should have the bugs fixed by then.
Thanks, Mike! Ya the bugs will hopefully be ironed out by then...
I’d be no good as a pilot, still looking for that traffic 👀
haha it happens! Sometimes traffic can be really hard to sport especially in SoCal with a totally grey background...IRL and in the sim.
This was fascinating, thanks!
Thanks so much, David! I really appreciate that!
Great video. Game changer
Thanks, Danny!
PilotEdge should be a requirement for student pilots....it's fantastic and adds pressure to your flying similar to what you would experience in the real world. Plus if you navigate SoCal....you can fly anywhere.
Exactly, Jack! I tend to agree haha. It helped me SO much!
Navigating in San Diego as a student pilot was one of the most beneficial things for my learning experience
We arent all American.. Paying 240 dollars per year to just fly in an area I'm not interested in, and which is not even online when it's daytime in Europe.. No thanks.

You're the man
Hope to catch you in the airspace one day! I fly out of VNY and CMA. Maybe we can get some formation flight going. Real world or sim
Ya man! That'd be cool. The Discord is the best place to coordinate 👍
Bill4LE which discord are you talking about?
8:25 you didn't make initial call first, you just fired off with all the info hoping he was ready to listen to you.... is this common in US?
some can actually replay you message afterwards but you still need to initiate call on the freq. with call sign's first
Hi, Fred. Yes, it's very common. Cold-calling isn't always necessary especially when it's quiet. They're ready to go. Some controllers even get annoyed at cold calls. I do both IRL depending on how busy it is on freq. John Wayne clearance I'll rarely cold call in real life.
Cold calls are preferential for SoCal as I was told by a controller. It gives them the time to respond and get a card ready for you. I always recommend a cold call regardless of who you’re talking too
Also having been out of Burbank, if you don’t cold call, you’ll be waiting a while for an answer.
@@aviationalex7x it just depends on how busy the freq is and what your requesting. If I'm picking up flight following from SNA clearance and there hasn't been any action I just make the request. If I'm in the air and need to pick up flight following on a busy SoCal Approach, then cold call is better. That comes from enroute and terminal controllers as well.
@@Bill4LE in IFR it is common as they are expecting you, but i didn't know you did it in VFR as well, really cool! i guess for training you must show you know the standard procedure and when you are in familiar airspace you do as they prefer in the tower if they request it or when you make call to send a strip, ask them what they like without making it a 5 min conversation ofc, there are other people that might want to get through.
Holy shit, what a great video!
Thanks so much, Aaron!
Great Video. Thanks
Thanks, Jake!
Great video, thanks so much!
Thanks, Jim!
I'm confused. Were you actually talking to a real ATC tower?? If not, then who?
The PilotEdge controllers are real people working off a home computer with a replication of a radar scope. They see something similar to real-world controllers.
He is. Similar to Vatsim.
Great video, a couple of tech. questions. What do you use to connect to Pilot edge. I use flight events to connect to my ipad/ForeFlight . The rate is in real time as in real world. It also has a discord button. Do you see only pilot edge planes in the sim or live traffic in the sim? Next tech question, how do you get your image to not show a back ground and how do you get the iPad on your screen real-time as well. Lastly a tip. Get and lean track ir it totally makes flying more realistic. I also programmed two button to give me instruments one and instruments 3 I believe it is. Makes setting radios so much easier. I also have some tuning knives set to flight stick buttons as well namely heading bug and altimeter set (g1000) on my warthog. Lastly I use the target software to run the warthog Hotas (without the joystick) so that some button can access out of game routines. Center and pause track ir . It could also be set up to have a button for externals coms like twitch, discord or teamspeak or whatever.
I've got my ipad hooked to AirServer. It's just mirroring what the ipad is showing.
I'm glad you kept saying certain things will be fixed.
Default simulators have never provided realistic aircraft.
MS2020 brought a bunch of people in who don't know what it was like to sim with fsx, p3d, and xplane. We had to sink hundreds of dollars into add-ons and services to get a realistic experience. We had to wait years for add-ons to develop and polish out.
MS2020 is an amazing platform. I love the way the sim looks. The lighting and terrain just look spot on. Yeah there are issues. Ranging from user error to sim bugs.
Overall it looks as real to life as I've ever seen a simulator look. Can't wait for third parties to improve the platform.
Microsoft provides the core experience and third party developers make it thrive.
To ask one company to perfect every aspect of the sim is never going to happen.
I'm looking into pilot edge for the first time and it is intimidating. I use radios every day in real life.
Been looking at real life training too. My local area uses c172 with glass cockpit.
Can't wait for the sim to grow and it will. People just need to quit expecting that to happen for free. All the "game" players don't understand. I'm so sick of reading hate.
Thanks so much for watching and for your thoughts. I'm not into the hate either. It's definitely frustrating at times right now but other times it's jaw-droppingly awesome!
I'm wondering how new simmers are going to cope with the shock of paying top dollar for quality payware.
@@SounderAU prices for the 2020 addons seem much lower than they were for 'other' major sims. economy of scale i guess.
@@LuLeBe fair point. i had Orbx in mind i saw their HQ airports for USD 15 and HD Carenado T182 for USD 30, seemed lower than i used to pay for x-plane HD fields or aircraft. But in current context it seems you're right, i owe you a pint of Guiness :-)
Not sure if you know but you can hold down shift (iirc) when using the dials like the radio frequency or autopilot stuff to double the turn rate.
You can also use the scroll wheel on the mouse rather than clicking. Works a lot better for me that way.
The scroll wheel is what I was using and it takes forever! lol
I'll try it! Thanks!
Nope. Not available in Singapore. Bummer. Maybe I should start my own ATC, Singapore chapter.
VATSIM would be a great place to look for Singapore!
would be great if you made a tutorial video on setting up pilot edge and how to use the program on microsoft sim 2020.

Thanks, man. Glad you enjoyed it.
Vatsim really nailed the vhf sound of a radio
Ya it does sound good!
Awesome job! This is exactly what I need to start my PPL training this winter. I do have a question though. How did you teach yourself all the little steps to get started. Ie. How to use the radios, find and use the COM numbers? Also what to say on the radio is pretty daunting and have no idea what to say on the initial contact? How did you find that out? I'm more than willing to do the work and find this out myself, I'm just looking for a little guidance.
It's such a great tool! PilotEdge actually has a lot training materials to help get you going but I'd also really recommend joining the Discord. There's a bunch of experienced pilots, CFIs and real-world ATC. We have conversations almost daily on radio phraseology. If you're willing to put in the word, it's all about having and using the proper resources. discord.gg/n2fh9Uv
Pity it doesn’t seem to support any Australian airports, but do you actually have to live in the US to use this or just fly at the designated airports?
It's an online network so you can be anywhere. There are a lot of Australians and Europeans that fly on PE. It's focused on one region because it's a training network and focused procedures and higher traffic density is more conducive to that.
Was he talking to real ATC? And if so how?
They are real people but not real FAA ATC. PilotEdge is a subscription service that provides online ATC for flight sims.

Hey man! Great video and channel! Not a pilot, but enjoy this a lot. Been out of work (wedding photographer) all year, so been flying a ton in the sim (MSFS2020). Have always loved this. (I live in Miami, and wished I lived in CA) I have been learning a lot and mostly do IFR flights with Pilot2ATC using Navigraph Charts. Just signed up for your discord, I do have some questions on some approach types that are confusing :-) Do you feel like the real plane is easier or harder to fly / land vs. the sim. I noticed some pilots have said it is easier in the real world?
Thank you so much, Travis! Sorry to hear about work but MSFS is a great way to pass some time until we get through this. Ya definitely ask away in the Discord with any questions you have! And the actual flying part in real life is easier than in sim in a lot of ways. But the sim has the whole not-real thing going which takes the stress out of it. :)
@@Bill4LE Thank you so much! I am on the Discord now.. Would I use the #General tab, and then just type a question there? lol, I know I sound so stupid. LOL.
Ya for sure! If it's a flight sim thing you can start with the #general server under Flight Sims. There's a little Discord etiquette but don't worry about it!
Found it! Okay, I just posted this: discord.com/channels/452014580940668938/755551309909721108/763120570799489024
Also, what is that blue ring that expands and contracts around your aircraft icon in the flight edge(?) app?
I think that's the glide advisor. It shows the area he can glide to if he loses the engine.
The is the glide ring in ForeFlight. Every plane has a glide ratio and that ring is showing how far I could glide with the engine out in case of a failure. It let's me know quickly what options there are for an emergency landing.
New to this. How do you get live atc on a flight sim? Is it a plug in service? Is it a party you invite to your flight with people playing different roles?
PilotEdge is a plug-in. It interacts with the sim plane exactly how it ATC works in the real plane. It's a paid service and is a 1:1 representation of the national airspace.
Your RT is much different from the RT I learned in The Netherlands. Pretty weird.
What does RT mean?

I fly on east coast, not up on special flight rule route. Explain?
Special Flight Rules is a published transitions through the LAX Bravo without talking to ATC. New York and DC (I think) have something similar.
Looks like somebody set the Altimeter at 29.87 instead of 29.84
The altimeter should have been at 29.92...weather is broken in the US :(
Nice video, thanks for it. I have just a question: is pilotedge similar to vatsim or ivao? or is a different way to have live atc? Thanks.
PilotEdge is similar to VATSIM but just has a different focus. There are a huge fans on both sides (I'm one on the PE side full disclosure) so there are arguments for both. But PE is more focused on realism. Guaranteed coverage is huge too.
Hey bill I just updated my vast sim xpilot. After updating my real sim gear garmin 530 with reality xp traffic page started workin on vast sim and pilot edge .also getting audio traffic warning as well . Any idea how this cool feature happened. Lol.
That is awesome!!! I love it!
Why is your mixture not full rich for ground operations.
Mixture is always leaned during grund ops except when doing the mag check. It prevents the spark plugs from fouling.
I don't care what angle you are looking at the front panel in an airplane, you would never see it angled like that. Does Microsoft have a problem programming a flat panel or something ?
Which angle are you referring to?
@@Bill4LE The video posting picture before you start playing it.
@@jlsc4125 oh the thumbnail? There's a little distortion in the camera. That's probably what you're seeing.
@@Bill4LE Nah, it's in every video I've seen, and it's not new for microsoft, they tend to exaggerate angle views for some reason without considering distance from viewer or the way the human eye actually works and views things.
How does Pilot Edge work? Are the Controllers students training to become ATC ? I assume they have an ATC simulator at their end to know what is happening in the "virtual" skies ? Just curious how this all works. Great video and very informative.
Bill is running a plugin that he doownloaded which then connects him to pilotedge. On the other end, there is a real person looking at a simulated ATC radar scope who is getting information from Bills simulator as well as anyone elses who are also running the pilotedge plugin.
Thanks, man! Ya Like Ryan said below. They aren't training to become real ATC but they do have their own 6-month training period. They are looking at what is basically a radar screen though just like real ATC.
OK first off...this is so cool. I'm brand new to flight sims and flying in general and have really enjoyed learning aspects of the Sim over the last few weeks. This may be a dumb question but the ATC stuff is all people doing basically a role played ATC for in game players??
Hi, Jeff! It's KIND of like role playing. But they are fully trained and mimic the real-world procedures identically. There is a tiny bit of RP but it's not the focus.
Great video! One question though. What is it in your in picture screen that looks like an advanced VFR MAP? I can see that it shows taxi ways and all that information, has this to do with pilotedge? I hate using those arrows to show me the taxi ways to use and cant find any site on the web with graphs of the airports displaying that information, at least not for Europe.
Thanks, Richard! That ForeFlight. It's a subscription app that's used for real-world flying but it's absolutely awesome for the sim too. It makes practicing even more valuable.
@@Bill4LE Thanks, I look into it :). Have a great weekend!
I'd never make it as a real pilot. Spending 20 minutes clicking switches and talking to ATC before you can get in the air just ain't my idea of fun.
It's all for safety....so it's probably for the better! haha
idk about pilot edge... So are you talking to a real person on atc or what
Yes, they are real people acting as ATC. It is not pre-record or anything.
So is the 1201 squawk specific to that area? I thought VFR was 1200?
Ya the 1201 is for that specific transition. It's unique so LAX knows you're on the Special Flight Rules.
HI CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME IM SO USE TO ATC IN FSX IT SPEAKS AND TELLS ME ALTITUDE AND HEADING THIS NEW FLIGHTSIM IS VERY CONFUSING CAN YOU PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME AS THIS NEW FLIGHTSIM DONT TELL ME ALTITUDE AND HEADING PLEASE HELP
If you're using the text ATC that comes with the sim, I can't help. It's really really really bad and pointless.
How’d you get ForeFlight to work with msfs 2020?
I was able to use it in xplane but wasn’t aware that it worked in the new MSFS 2020....
It's connect with FlightEvents. It's super easy!
+bill4le At 35:39 was the ATIS in Com 2 (where you can listen to that and the controller you’re talking to at the same time without asking for a moment to go off the frequency to check the weather)?
In the 172, if you turn the splitter dial to COM 1/2, you'll be able to hear both. That's the only way currently to do it. Otherwise, you can just request leaving freq to get the weather.
How do you turn off the Tool Tips that appear when you hover over the gauges?
You can't yet, unfortunately. There are some work-arounds but I'll wait for natively being able to do it.
BTW .. what type of monitor are you using? After literally a decade of using an old 45-inch lcd tv for flightsimming, I'm beginning to think my flagging interest might be revived by a more modern display, given the current state of graphics and my available PC power.
I just have very simple 24" 1080 120 htz Acer monitor. Nice and compact.
Why not?
Exactly!
There's also VATSIM.

Get the RTX 3070 man or 80/90 ofc.
Ya that 3070 or 3080 look pretty sweet!
What plane is that I cannot find it in order to buy it in the Microsoft FS catalog
This is the 172 in the Premium Deluxe package.
Bill4LE I bought the upgrade to the premium deluxe and I still have only 1 Cessna 172, the G1000 🤦🏻♂️ I will consult with MS
I signed up for Discord. I just bought Microsoft Simulator 2020. As I try to learn it to get my Private Pilot License and my Instrument, should I now consider Pilot Edge or wait until I learn the software and simulator first? I want to use Pilot Edge, but is there a tutorial to help me learn? Where can I really get a good feel of this and understanding? I saw some of your videos so far.
There are a ton a of tutorials and helpful documents on the PilotEdge.net website. But I would learn how to handle the plane a little bit for jumping in to PE. It helps having a good idea how to operate the software and the plane.
Thanks. Great to know. I would like to learn more about your flight simulator to private pilot license experience. That is what I am about to experience. What was the order or process like. I bought a really good simulator setup and want to be good at preparing for lessons like you did.
@@aspoonfulofknowledge awesome!!! I love it! There is a link in the video description for my Discord server. Click that. Ongoing conversations about all of this. Lots of real word CFIs too.
Signed up for it yesterday
@@aspoonfulofknowledge oh perfect!!!
Thanks for sharing this video. Just asking is the PliotEdge will give you some training if you are first timer and not a real pilot?
Thanks! Yes, there is training available. Also there is a ton of info on their website.
So is this like... a call center pretending to be ATC?
It's integrated into the sim. Dial in the correct frequency in your plane to reach the specific position. The controllers are using a scope similar to real world controllers with all of the same capabilities.
Can someone help me understand. Is he talking to real life ATC tower from the game. Is the ATC communication is AI generating or real life controller taking to him in real time.
I'm talking to a real person. They are view a radar scope similar to what real controllers use. It's real time and uses all real-world procedures.
@@Bill4LE you are in the game, are you taking to real person in real life who is inside an ATC tower in real time? I trying to understand if you are taking to real time atc just like you would in real life in ground.
@@suspect2363 yes, it is exactly like talking to real life ATC. It's real time, live interaction with a real person.
@@Bill4LE but you are in the game. Not in real life.
@@suspect2363 that is correct. It's a subscription service to add to the sim.
Just picked up flight sim 2020. Completely green. Any suggestions on how to get started?
Congrats! Welcome :) I'm going to be only a tiny bit self-serving in this suggestion: Join the Discord! discord.gg/n2fh9Uv
We can help with any and all things!
@@Bill4LE haha thanks! I'll see you on there maybe this evening.
@@ChrisArkwright perfect! It'll be a great resource for you.
Great video! :-) Is there a difference between pilot edge and vatsim?
Thanks, Hans! There are many differences.
PilotEdge:
-Guaranteed coverage times
-Focused coverage area ( thoroughly trained full procedures)
-Paid Subscription & Age Limit (Pilots take it much more seriously)
VATSIM:
-Covers the entire world (Fly anywhere but ATC won't always be there)
-Free (AWESOME) & No Age Limit (12-year-olds in 747s)
I will not hide that I prefer PilotEdge but VATSIM can be a great tool and fun as well. But they are different animals.
So what happens if disobeying ATC on msfs2020 when using pilot edge?
If you're fully disobeying ATC you can be disconnected. Respecting the other pilots on the network is important too.
How is pilot edge different than VATSIM?
There are a number key differences but the main ones are: PE has guaranteed coverage, all real world freq procedures are used no matter who's controlling, it's focused in one region (ZLA and/or Westcoast) so traffic is more focused. That's kind of the high-level differences.
@@Bill4LE Thx! I fly in the NorthEast, and will prolly stay with VATSIM then.
Hi! Thanks for the Video. A Question; I also use OBS and dont get a crisp record. i´ve tried everything.. really. What is your resolution at "Output" and "Video" ? Regards from Germany.
It's at 1080 in game capture mode.
Good Stuff
Love you, Tone!
Hello from Belgium! What do you use to push the buttons, change freq, tpx,... I don.t see a mouse pointer. ?
Hello! The mouse pointer is hidden. But I'm using that :)
Do you know if there are any plans to expand to central and eastern United States where 2/3s the airports and population are located? A shame they only cover the Denver west.
There is not right now. There were a bunch of reasons they picked the Westcoast (the founder is NJ based). ZLA is an amazing place to learn almost all types of airspace in a relatively small area.
@@Bill4LE Cool. Thank you for sharing. I'll have to check out ZLA in sim sometime.
Does pilotedge monitor Chicago airspace
PilotEdge does not. It covers the Westcoast. Varied airspace with a lot to offer!
Do we have live ATC on Xbox version? Can we have it?
Unfortunately, no. It's only able to work on the PC version.
i'm still trying to understand the basics of this, the ATC's you're talking to in PilotEdge, are they just other players pretending to be ATC? I can't imagine real ATC would have time to talk to sim players.
They are real people but they are paid PilotEdge employees. They are at a home computer with an ATC "scope"(radar looking thing) similar to what real-world ATC has. They are highly trained in real-world procedures and in some ways, it's hard than the real world since they have to control multiple airports and airspace.
@@Bill4LE wow ok, that's crazy but I like it, thanks for the quick reply
@@Tabfren my pleasure! If you have any other questions or want to explore this more, join the Discord!
So does this ATC program use discord automatically shift you between channels or something? Or does that in its own program? Also, seems very professional, and not newb friendly (from intimidation factor).
Melon, no the ATC program is using the sim to change frequencies. Discord is not involved. If the radios in the plane are not turned on, you won't hear anyone. There are a lot of newb-friendly learning materials that can help but it is very much a realistic environment.
Problems occur if newbs are undertaking ops that they're not prepared to do. If you don't bit off way more than you can chew and you make use of the training material that's provided, it's hard to go wrong. If you simply jump in the plane and go, hoping to learn it on the fly, that's when the wheels come off. The program doesn't use Discord for comms, the voice interaction is built-in to the pilot client. It provides VHF modulation based on line of sight (including terrain interference)...Discord doesn't provide any of that. (disclosure: I work with PE)
