We will tell you the good points of the Riu Palace Costa Rica and also talk about the Riu Guanacaste. We will also tell you where they fell short an wether its a good value for you.

Did RIU Paradise Island Bahamas with my wife in April. Adults only and was a fantastic time. Going to this location in the video end of July with the wife and kids. Can't wait. Great video!

Thank you for the video, really enjoyed it. We were just at the RIU Palace at the end of August and really enjoyed it. I agree with your comments but one thing we did have was an outdoor barbecue buffet in the pool area every day from about 11:30-1 and you could bring the food back to your lounge chairs. Perhaps your comments regarding lunch brought about the outdoor buffet in the pool area. Once again, thank you for the terrific review and video.

I feel you provided a very accurate description of this hotel. I just stayed there beginning Aug. 27th. 3 things I would like to add is that the personnel that worked here were the most courteous, friendliest, hard working and hospitable hotel workers I've encountered. Many of them did speak English eventhough not always fluent. Lastly, there was a lot of variety of foods to eat, but unfortunately not very tasteful. I think this is something they need to work on. Overall, it was a great stay there and I would stay here again.

I stayed at RIU Panama a couple of years ago Wonderful time good for the price The place was worn in places like the pools But u can't beat the price for the food and drinks Tip the bartenders they will take good care of u

My family wants to go to this reaort but I feel like it's dated, in the middle of nowhere and there may be challenges eating outside of the buffet.
Hopefully I am wrong 😊
Thanks for Sharing the video. As you asked for suggestion I can see here NO BAR & wash room available at or Near by beach. On other destination as Mexico, Dominic Republic have more foods and hugh dininig restaurant and Bars are easy reachable.
Thanks for watching and you are correct, the restrooms are up in the resort near the bar. That’s why we do these videos. There are huge differences between resorts and destinations.

Hi, I am planning to take a trip in June, for my birthday. I am looking forward to it. I hope I am making the right choice.
I had a great time. Make sure you do some excursions off property. So much to see there!!!
I think the reason being you can't take food outside is people leave their plates all around and it tends to look messy.
The resort is beautiful, but I think the beach is a downer for me, but you go for the atmosphere and costa rica has
alot of wildlife and birds that i think my husband would like, we are seniors and looking to go somewhere nice this
fall/winter. Any suggestions, we would like to stay at a Palace if at all possible.
That’s a possibility although the other Riu resorts I have been to allowed food outside restaurants. I’m starting to think that it has more to do with wildlife…..
We are big fans of the Riu Palace in Aruba. There are videos up on the Riu Palace Aruba on the channel.
That's correct, unfortunately, some people feed raccoons and now it is becoming a problem. Last year we visited the Riu Hotel next to the Palace one and at night we saw a lot of raccoons trying to steel food from the tables located outside the restaurants.
In costa Rica we don't tend to have muffins and donuts for breakfast all of that is for "coffee time" so I guess that's why It won't open until after breakfast.
Hello, i have watched a few of your videos and find them helpful... I've stayed at the Riu Palace in Cabo, I've stayed at Riu California in Cabo, I've stayed at Riu Palace in Montego Bay, and I'm actually headed back to the Riu Palace Cabo in April 2024, along with Riu Palace Costa Rica in August 2024.I am definitely more of a Secrets gal but when i am on a budget, Riu will do the job. out of all the Riu resorts i have visited thus far, Cabo was hands down my fav. I love that there are the other two properties to go between, and the Walmart across the street was great for everything. With Riu Costa Rica are their restaurants and stores nearby to walk too, and are their restrooms near the bars or restaraunts in the Riu Costa Rica, and how do you get to the sister resort next door
Thanks for watching and the feedback. I agree 100% on Secrets but sometimes it’s just a little out of budget. In Costa Rica there are some stores but not many. It’s pretty secluded.
The sister resort is a very short walk. I believe I have it in the Riu Guanacaste video on the channel.
Hi Bill, great video. I have a question about the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, do you need to schedule that in advance? My group has been trying to schedule that but Riu is saying that don’t do that. Did you schedule a shuttle directly at the LIR airport?
I book through a tour operator who includes round trip transportation. I rarely book directly as it gives me options to move my clients in case of issues and also another entity working for me should there be a problem with the hotel.
Who did you use for airport transportation? Great review overall, next time could you review the rooms as well?
Thanks Rob. We used Amstar for transfers as they were included in package price I booked for our group. There is a tour of my room on the channel!

I went to RIU Guanacaste is nice, maybe palace next but there is not much diff for the money. Going back in April 22

Can you share anything about getting a table at the al la Carte restaurants? Do you have to get there early? Can you make reservations?
I’m visiting this resort very soon can you give me any information on what is a good tipping amount for hotel workers at this resort… meaning what do they consider a low tip and what is considered a decent tip
Tipping is "included" but extra is always appreciated. I have never gotten any sense that a worker has felt a tip is too low. (ummm no quarteers and dimes though lol)

Thanks for watching. We always book clients through one of our trusted suppliers which include round trip Amstar transfers. Never had an issue with them and they were great for Costa Rica. The views were nice and most rooms have a view. I wouldn’t pay a ton extra for it as the view is kind of at an angle. You can see in the room tour video
Was it difficult to get dinning for your group ?, I’m going with a group of 14 and trying to work out our dinning situation
It wasn’t bad at all. The toughest was the steakhouse as they have 2 seatings. If you get to places early, it will be ok. You may have to sit at 2 tables next to each other though.
Unless I missed it. When do you think is the best time to visit? I do like hot weather, sun tanning if possible here. How would a trip to CR be in oh mid February around Valentine's Day?
We were there early March and the weather was perfect. It gets rainy late Spring through the Summer. Valentines Day should be great weather! Thanks for watching.

I usually use Amstar but the vendors on the beach get great reviews. Make sure you look them up though

My husband, 19yr old college student son & I will be sharing a family suite there in mid-July.
We will be looking to do a couple of adventure excursions also.
We will be there 6 days (but I don’t include 2 because those are travel days 😉, so basically 4 days) coming from Texas.
Does the buffet have authentic Costa Rican food? When in different countries we really enjoy local fare. Healthier choices?
I’m sure you will have a great time. There are a ton of excursion options. The buffets had many different options including traditional and local options. I’m gonna say it was a little light on healthier options but they existed. Thanks for watching.

Would you recommend this property for a solo traveller?
Funny you should ask, although I was leading a group, my wife couldn’t come and I had a great time. Very safe place in my opinion.

Yes they do. If there aren’t any, the attendants will bring them to you. There is waiter service as well but the bathrooms are up near the main pool.

I book packages, usually through Funjet that include Amstar transfers. Never an issue and they wait for you right after you clear customs.
How were the rooms? I’ve heard many people mention mold being found.

Spa treatments are additional but I believe the sauna and steam rooms are included.
Any smoking areas outside?
Yes. There is one on the path between the resorts near the spa.

WHY do you keep referring to Costa Rica as "an island" ? Also, you obviously chose to travel during Guanacaste's "dry season" - since all the trees were in dormancy. Suggest you try late rainy season, when the natural vista is much greener and the flowering trees are apparent. As for the resort - it seemed very "clinical" and inhospitable. Sadly, it was typical of most "all-inclusive resorts", which seem pretty generic worldwide. SUGGESTION: see the REAL Costa Rica, and it's NOT at these resorts !
Hey. Once again scroll up on the comments. I appreciate your love of Costa Rica but many people prefer the familiarity and comfort of a familiar all inclusive when exploring new destinations.
Beach was a 5* ....everything else was maybe a 2*.

This was a horrible resort 2:18 2:23 so dated . Only a few restaurants and they are small so you can’t even get in. The room smelled had to be changed three times.. they close the lounge area at 12:00 pm and the shut the lights off and you sit in the dark.
Sorry you that you had experience. We had a large group and had no problem getting into restaurants. The rooms could have used a little updating, but otherwise we thought is was a great value. Of course Secrets and Dreams will be better but also much pricier. Have you stayed at a Riu before?
