Mainly: the best around the world in the years between 1985 and 2005.
If anyone doesn't put Franco Baresi in their greatest team of all time then they probably didn't see the man play to see how good he really was. Paulo Maldini took off where Franco Baresi finished in the centre of defense, and he was stellar at that too, along with being the finest Left Back i've ever had the pleasure to watch. Maldini was special his ability to read the game was something that many other players fail to do. He had good height and was interchangeable to centre of midfield and left back, his also had great timing, his goal scoring added to his game immensely. I played right wing for the beginning of my armature career never missing a game and later moved to right back. I used to record all games shown on TV with AC Milan featuring, just so I could watch Maldini and tried to break down what he did well and how he tackled. I had blistering speed and teams who had players who knew my speed would not play down the right hand side of the pitch. I also was good in the air and had good heading ability. What I lacked most was the ball control that Maldini had and showed with great flair. For me Maldini wasn't just good he was great an all around ability player. I always wondered why he never played as a defensive midfield player as im sure he would of been seen as even more of a great.

Most people in this comment section still fail to realize that Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini NEVER played side-by-side as centre-backs in AC Milan, where Paolo Maldini was the left-back, Franco Baresi and Alessandro Costacurta were the centre-backs, and Mauro Tassotti as the right-back, with Sebastiano Rossi as the goalkeeper, which contributed to the infamous "Gli Invicibli" AC Milan side in 1991-1992. They only did so in FIFA World Cup 1994, where they finished runner-up to Brazil, with five goals conceded from seven matches.

Always makes me laugh when I see someone saying Sergio Ramos is the best defender ever. You clearly never saw Maldini play at his peak because he was another level to Ramos. Even at the end of his career just before retiring he bossed a young CR7
Our HS coach was from germany we lived in rural us farm town we had no access rly to european ball, said coach had us defenders watch tape of these guys. I remember seeing Maldini anchor the entire milan side for 90 minutes commanding performance, then seeing the stats he had like 2 tackles. Guy was always in the best position at almost all times
Really superb, amazing we get this quality of analysis for free. Late 80s/90 Italian football sets all standards, IMHO. The Spanish teams cannot defend.
And please do not forget Mauro Tassoti and Christian Panucci, and most importantly, Alessandro "Billy" Costacurta, the unsung hero who was lucky enough to win trophies with both of them in three different decades.
2 monster but Maldini is one step ahead even compared with Baresi. Guys the class of Paolo Maldini was on another level.Maldini had the feet of an accomplished midfielder, he had an absurd dribbling ability, he was able to dribble the opponent in any way and then serve a perfect ball for the goal of his teammate. So not only did he have the incredible defensive ability of a Baresi but he also showed technical qualities of the highest level, this made him the greatest ever.
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431 That's funny because I remembered match Milan was up a goal and they just needed to run out the clock. @@itsinthetreesitscoming7431 🙄 I didn't say they were. I was praising the offensive capabilities of Baresi. They were playing tiki taki with the ball; just probing for a good opportunity for a shot on goal. (In other words, I was praising the firepower that team had. They were good defending, but they could slice open opponents.)

Baresi has the record for most own goals scored in Serie A (8 own goals), and is still regarded as one of the if not the best central backs of all time, he was that good
I am a Juve fan and ufortunately was too young to see Baresi in his prime. Maldini, even in his mid to late 30s, was an absoulute menace for attackers. I honestly feel that defenders like these make the game much more beautiful than very skilled attackers
I like your comments.Franz Beckenbauer was good, but Baresi made the defence as a art . Maldini continue the art of Baresi. Both of them made the game to be complet. The best defenders ever.

“196 matches in CB pairing 23 goals conceded” IS A FAKE STAT. These two together is the best duo and doesn't need fake stats. The secret lies in 298. Divide that by the number of seasons they played together (13) and you get 22.92, or 23 when rounded up. So Serie A’s Twitter stat is mistranslated. Rather than 23 goals in total, it is in fact 23 goals on average, per season together.

I enjoyed your video. I’m looking at the position my 12yr old daughter is playing. She is a defender by nature but the strikers get most of the attention. This video is inspiring to those who are defenders and center backs. Thanks🙏🏼
I'm glad I got to watch AC Milan with both playing...they had an incredible team...
Always makes me laugh when I see someone saying Sergio Ramos is the best defender ever. You clearly never saw Maldini play at his peak because he was another level to Ramos. Even at the end of his career just before retiring he bossed a young CR7
Greay video, would love a video on Giggs incredible career
Just bought a classic ac milan kit got baresi on the back so excited to wear it
Thanks man for this great video clip.
Forza Milan ⬛️🟥⬛️🟥⬛️🟥⬛️
i didn't witness the greatness of maldini and baresi but stories and videos like these are enough to convince me they were the best
Galli is not to be forgotten as well!
👍To both comments!
Such a great video man - thanks for this, for the stats, and the memories. Forza Milan!! 🔴 ⚫️
Solid proof of how "offense wins matches but defense wins championship". The unwritten rule of any sports game
great vid looks very professional. you are like the tifo of football documentaries
Ig there is a reason why 2005 UCL final us called "Miracle of Istanbul"
Fantastic video. Great work. I'm a Milan fan and you couldn't have covered it any better.
Baresi was so modern, like 20 years ahead. So fast and aggressive, a true leader.
Great work my guy!
The back four of tissotti, costacurta, barasi and maldini easily the greatest in football history.
Nice vid as always.
Great video like always, my dad grew up a Milan fan and I can see why he appreciated defensive football.
Ask your dad about Van Basten, Gullit, Virdis, Lentini, Savicevic, Papin, Boban, Weah, Ganz, Leonardo, Bierhoff, Shevchenko, Rui Costa, Kaka, Inzaghi, Crespo, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Pirlo, Pato, Cafu, Serginho, Ronaldinho and other attacking minded ACM players.
haha the last thing that Milan team was was "defensive"....
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431 That's funny because I remembered match Milan was up a goal and they just needed to run out the clock. The defense line were passing the ball back and forth between the MFs. After awhile, Baresi takes a shot at goal and scores....🤯
The Bosman Rule really destroyed Italian Calcio (That match-fixing scandal actually did.) 😔
@@charlesray9674 So you remember one match in which you observed them playing defensively and that makes them a defensive team?
Ok.
@@itsinthetreesitscoming7431 🙄 I didn't say they were. I was praising the offensive capabilities of Baresi. They were playing tiki taki with the ball; just probing for a good opportunity for a shot on goal. You were think that Massaro, van Basten, or any of the midfielders would take the shot, but it was Baresi who buried it in the upper corner.
(In other words, I was praising the firepower that team had. They were good defending, but they could slice open opponents.)
Maldini greatest left back ever. Baresi possible one of the best centre backs ever depending on if you put Beckenbauer in defence or midfield but definitely better than today's defenders
Keep it up man ima keep telling you!!! You are awesome at making consistent content and I love it, I don’t get tired watching your videos. Not too long and also very entertaining!!! I love it man please keep it up
One of the most likeable videos, again
Two monsters of football defence striking fear into every attackers eyes in their time. Those where the golden days of Italian football.
Maldini is one of my top 3 all time players. The reason I became a CB/LB. Clean tackles and outsmarting the faster striker was my skill set. Obviously he did it at the highest level, longer than anyone else in football history.
Your channel is so entertaining. I love your videos bro, keep it up!
Dude your vids are amazing
Baresi 1994 Final's performance, should be taught in Football Schools. Really, he came from an injury and nullified almost alone Brasil.
Can't believe these two didn't lift the World Cup atleast once.
I mean,Baresi did it in 1982,but he didn't even play a single game.
Another great video
Irish TV used to show the weekly highlights of the Italian league in 88, 89, 90, I used to be hanging out for it like a hungry dog, I was 12 years old. I thought of these guys as immortals.
Franco was the greatest defensive and strategic mind in history of football
This is the kind of content that becomes addicting.
Forget defenders, these 2 are probably the best 2 to ever play the game
Your content is amazing dude
“196 matches in CB pairing 23 goals conceded” IS A FAKE STAT. These two together is the best duo and doesn't need fake stats. The secret lies in 298. Divide that by the number of seasons they played together (13) and you get 22.92, or 23 when rounded up. So Serie A’s Twitter stat is mistranslated. Rather than 23 goals in total, it is in fact 23 goals on average, per season together.
I remember them well… can’t find the words to say how good they were
Maldini ...one of my childhood football idols!!
I personally watched the Maldini - Nesta twin in CB and they were also pretty darn good.
Great video again
-sacchi was a professional player at rimini for a few years before starting his career at, you guessed it, rimini
-cesare maldini had the number 6
Oyi, Tinashe. Great video, massive fan. Could you kindly make a vid on Lucio? Thanks mate
One of the best ever. Sadly forgotten.
