Super smart job tucking your shirt in before approaching a PTO shaft! Even one that isn't engaged. Most people won't even notice that small step, but it is a life saver. I know of more than one neighborhood farmer back in the day that didn't survive that encounter. You and Grant please stay safe.

Why is there a control panel over the PTO? Good thinking on the shirt, I saw that too. Then I immediately went to the placement of that panel. Is that necessary?

@@brianwaskow5910 If I couldn't move it I'd put some railing around the PTO or something. Just the way you have to lean out towards it. If you tripped that thing will rip your arm off and you won't even hear it bog down.

For sure. Working with machinery is nothing to get lax about. We had friends that had a family farm in Iowa, Woodbine near Omaha. The dad was seriously injured in an accident involving a conveyer. It's easy to get complacent when you work with the machinery every day. One mistake.

The fact that you noticed something was going on and didn't keep pushing it may have saved you from a lot more problems. That shows skill and experience.

I was a produce farmer for my last 8 years of grade school. It was very time consuming and relaxing work. Of course back during my teenage years, I easily had the energy to climb Mt. Everest. But like the rest of us, age and illness slowed me down to the point where climbing 5 flights of stairs requires a break.

Might want to watch some of these 3rd world famers that don’t have all the modern day technology! Mexico supplies most of are vegetables, fruit, and other essentials! They definitely can’t afford none of this modern equipment! Not taken nothing away from these guys they do put the time in and work! Sad most of the farms and ranches in America are worked by migrant workers or run by them! It’s unusual to see wealthy Americans run there own farm.

3 thoughts: 1) agree with everyone - time to put a cover on any spinning parts that you can; 2) pillows for behind your back will help; 3) tune in to WNAX (570 AM) if you don't want repeat music - they are your "local" farm station (Yankton SD, but a 5-state strong signal that carries to your location with no problems). Good luck!

I really appreciate and enjoy your farm activities. You approach them with such tenacity and no intimidation. Where we are, there are very few pivot irrigation in use. It was always a mystery and fascination to me how they work. All outdoor power equipment and farm machinery and repair of same has been my livelihood. A thought on your stranded spray rig/destroyer (very cool!)... My dad's airplane many years ago suffered a blown oil line and ended its flight sitting in a harvested soybean field....all winter. In the spring a used engine was procured, installed on sight, and it was flown out of said field. Possibly, if the sprayer engine is toast, a rental or demo machine could get your deadline met. Let yours set, harvest the corn, then fix it once the field is clear. It might also be an opportunity to re-power it with something a little more common (Cummins, Perkins). Keep up the good work and the great content.

Great Video Laura!! The best way to explain things I always use to always say, " Your Not Complaining, just Expalning!!" Also, I am sure this video is a few days old, but your sprayer should have some interlock disconnects on the drive wheel so you can tow it out of the field. If so be careful because in most cases, it disengages the brakes and it will freewheel. Best of luck! Waiting patiently for the next video.

-- Glad to see a new breed of farmers. You all are underrated. I can, and have, fixed/rebuilt most all of your equipment, but I can't farm. If that dipstick is factory positioned that way and you're getting blowback, not a great sign. What was the engine temperature when you noticed the problem? To keep it positive, I'd guess a vacuum issue, pump or line, more likely a line. Or even sillier, a crashed cell in a batt. Blown gasket. Start with the easy stuff, eh?
And yes, always be safe when getting near a Power Takeoff. Add, don't use rotary power tools with loose gloves.

Only around 40 head max on 200 acres tillable. Mine and my extended family of dairy farmers were never positive and upbeat. I think farm debt has a powerful way of sapping any kind of good energy out of people.

I have Sirius XM in the car since I bought it in '19. I've tried a couple times to listen to terrestrial radio (over the air) and know what you mean about playing the same stuff over and over. My mother and I got our hair cut the other day and the shop had local radio station on. We were in there may be 20-30 minutes and the majority of the time the radio station was doing commercials and then traffic report (which in the Phoenix area can be quite long). We might have heard a couple songs the whole time we were there).

This for me is how you build experience; by learning from situations that are not going the right way and learn from it. Your diagnostic skills are definitely improving. Seeing what isn't normal on an engine is the first important diagnose. Your tears were closer than your lovely smile at the end of the video I seem to notice. Fully understandable, live isn't easy sometimes. I feel sorry for you because of the troubles you went through on today's video, but I'm sure you'll get it sorted out, another lesson learned.

It is a fact that nothing will break down in a good place to work on it. Newtons Law. LOL. Love all the safety precautions that you use when working around equipment and your attention to details. Another great video and am looking forward to your next one.

Isn’t it Murphy’s law, anything that can go wrong will go wrong ? I guess Newton’s laws of motion is in this equation too. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

@@kevinb8285 I thought it was Murphy's Law too.
But I guess one could adapt Newton's Laws to the situation ... every action has an equal and opposite reaction, a body in motion will continue to move at the same speed and direction until a force acts on it, and force acting on a body is equal to the first derivative of the momentum with respect to time. The first two are readily adapted, still thinking about the third.

Laura search for people/companies that rebuild starters and alternators, they can save you a bunch of money. Fortune cookie says a strangers kindness will surprise and delight you, turn it over and it reads : if you don’t throw down on them at 1000 yards. 🔫. LOL 😂 Lock and load Kiddo. LOL 😂 Just pickin. Hey I love it when Dad comes to the rescue but was he shaking his head on the 4 wheeler at 15:10 in the video because a certain someone wasn’t keeping an eye on the oil and water temperature gauges or are they broken too ? To be continued ! 🚜👍🙏😎✌️

Bummer dude. I feel your pain. I've destroyed a couple engines my self due to oil problems. When I drove for a nonprofit we we were required to check the oil and hit the tires with something like a baseball bat before driving.
I also ruined a couple of pieces of farm equipment. One I could repair the other I couldn't.
Yup. Farming isn't always easy, but it generally works out in the end.
    Keep up the good work.

Most of the 4315 Sprayers in our area caught fire and burnt to the ground, one was repowered with a 6.7 L cummins the only one left is on its second engine, I hope it's a simple repair.

Radio stations have to pay per song, so they get better deals on certain tracks. So those are the ones that get over used. I haven't listened to radio in a very long time.
