I speak as a recovering alcoholic - just because I cannot drink safely, doesn't mean everyone else should be stopped from enjoying a pint.
If you watched the video He didn't say ban it.... On the contrary...he said educate and minimise advertising for drinking. People should have the right to do as they wish but let's not pretend that alcohol is not an addictive drug that destroys lives. Its not this sexy seductive product suggested in ads.

If you compare 2 pints of beer or two glasses of wine which allowing for time spent chatting with friends in a pub should come under the DUI laws in Britain, then most of these do not apply to either alcohol or caffeine beverages. When you compare high volume consumption then all these factors apply to alcohol, however many apply to Caffeine drinks. Heart disease, liver disease, dangerous driving with buzzing young males thinking they are immortal on the roads.
I think we should learn from our mistakes. The cutting of DUI offences started to decrease not when draconian laws were introduced but when the Government sold the message it was unacceptable and the public saw the evidence. In the 60’s and 70’s if one was convicted of drunken driving, the reaction of friends was hard luck, today it would be you bl**dy fool.
We should preach moderation in all things, ban nothing but make it socially unacceptable to over indulge.
None of those things cause people to treat eachother like crap unlike alcohol.

@@IanSmith465 There's always another choice. In this case - you don't realise it's the system itself that's the issue. No matter who you choose, the same agenda gets passed and all you're doing is legalising it by ticking the box.
The one option no one seems to realise would change things, is to tick for Noone. Refuse to take part and instead take responsibility and accountability for yourself... but no one wants to do that and they know it.

Going to the pub isn’t just about drinking alcohol, going to the pub is about being social, catching your own thoughts, seeing friends and so much more. It’s therapy,it’s the original social media and it’s vital part of our economy!

One of the original purposes of pubs was that drinking ale was safe at a time when water supplies were not of consistent purity. Hence the British pint of ale with a low alcohol content. In effect brewing was a form of water purification.

Government should keep its nose out of people’s personal life. They have far bigger issues they should be concentrating on, not people’s smoking and drinking habits. They increasingly want to control every aspect of our lives, the type of car we drive, where we holiday, what we eat, even what we do with our hard earned money. The list seems to increase on a daily basis. The reality is they make a total mess of everything they touch and need to get their own house in order before they start interfering in our lives.

It’s no wonder the pubs are closing at such a rapid pace. Two out of the three in the village where I live close most nights at 9pm (or before). I am 80 years of age and live alone and like many of my friends rarely go out in the evening before 9.30pm. I would love to go back 20 years when all the pubs were busy and played a major part of an active social life.
